'Modern Family' gets neighborly

Happy new "Modern Family," everyone! It's been far too long since we last paid a visit to our favorite extended family, and Wednesday night, they started off the new year right.

Cam got those words he longs to hear out of Mitchell - "You were right" - when it came to a guy (who "lives in his own truth") they met hanging out in their hot tub. A little "negative energy removal" took care of that.

Unfortunately for Cam, he spoke a bit too soon when he found himself having to evict hot tub guy from Lily's princess castle. The conversation started out, "I said I just moved in. I'm sorry, I thought it was implied..." "...That you're living in a dollhouse?" And it got worse from there.

Cam put his foot down: "You are living in a little girl's toy, and you have to move out!" Then things got violent, and Mitchell found them yelling at him through the castle windows, making sure as he called 911 to point out who was right.

Also dealing with neighbor issues was Claire, this week's MVP. She was determined to find out who was speeding through the neighborhood. Little did she know that it was Phil's new client (played by Jami Gertz, always a welcome sight).

By the way, Claire got the MVP for two reasons: one, the brilliantly bad sign she created ("Slow Down Your Neighbors"), and the priceless look on her face when she unwittingly took a ride in the speeder's car. Phil, of course, knew he could smooth things over by going to the florist... for some mylar balloons.

Lastly, Jay found out to his horror that neither Manny nor Gloria could ride a bike: "Two thirds of my house can't do what a billion Chinese do."

Manny was a quick study (the whole "check your mirror and your bell" bit - later demonstrated by Claire - is right up his alley), but Gloria... well, let's just say that Sofia Vergara should just submit her portrayal of a horrible bike-rider to the Emmy voters right now.

Luke saved the day (and kudos to this show for waiting 35 episodes before making an "I am your father" joke – of course Phil said that in the delivery room!) by using the tried-and-true Super-Soaker method of scaring Gloria into riding her bike correctly... you know the one.

What'd you think of last night's episode? Do you agree that Claire was the MVP?
