Angelina Jolie's "Cleopatra" is one step closer to getting made, George Clooney is starring in an Italian movie, and the Ouija board will soon be scaring up some fun on the big screen.
Producer Scott Rudin tells Deadline.com that he is close to hiring a director for Jolie's "Cleopatra" 3-D spectacular. Though Rudin won't name names, it's rumored that Paul Greengrass, who helmed the "Bourne Identity" franchise, will direct the Queen of the Nile biopic.
The film, based on author Stacy Schiff's "Cleopatra: A Life," will be much different from the 1963 movie starring Elizabeth Taylor, promises Rudin. "It is a completely revisionist Cleopatra, a much more grown-up sophisticated version," he has said. "She’s not a sex kitten, she’s a politician, strategist, warrior."
Meanwhile, George Clooney is attached to star in a film adaptation of Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi's true-crime novel "The Monster of Venice." Clooney will play detective Preston, who teamed up with Spezi to solve a 30-year-old serial murder case that took place just outside Florence between 1974 and 1985.
And in other chilling news, "Charlie's Angels" director McG is in talks to bring Hasbro's Ouija board to life with a movie set for release in 2012.
