Ahead of the Curve: Weekly pop culture calendar

Sure your favorite TV shows are on holiday hiatus, but don't fret, we've got New Year's Eve celebrations, Ryan Gosling's new movie, and enough celebrity appearances to keep you busy. Bring out the confetti and noisemakers and get ready to ring in the New Year in style.

  • Russell Brand is all over late night TV this week, appearing on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on Monday and "Conan" on Thursday. Tune in to the "Late Show With David Letterman" Monday to catch Johnny Depp talking "Pirates of the Caribbean."
  • Get the family together on Tuesday and watch "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" on ABC at 8 p.m. EST.
  • Check Oprah out during "The 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors," to air on CBS Tuesday, at 9 p.m. EST. Other honorees include Paul McCartney, Bill T. Jones, Merle  Haggard and Jerry Herman.
  • The second season of "Jersey Shore's" comes out on DVD Tuesday, as well as action-packed flicks, "The American" and "Legendary Assassin."
  • Jeff Bridges talks "True Grit" with Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday.
  • Tuning in to ABC on Thursday at 8 p.m. EST for a special presentation of "Happy New Year, Charlie Brown."
  • Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling's romance-drama "Blue Valentine" opens in theaters on Friday, as does Javier Bardem-starer "Biutiful."
  • Fist-pump with Snooki and Pauly at "MTV's New Year's Bash." Watch as Snooki is lowered, in a ball, onto MTV's rooftop deck.
  • Carson Daly's NBC celebration, featuring performances by Nicki Minaj, Lil' Wayne and My Chemical Romance.
  • Did we mention that 2011 New Year's celebrations were celeb-packed? "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" will feature Justin Bieber, Black Eyed Peas, Daughtry, Jennifer Lopez, Keri Hilson, Colbie Caillat, David Guetta and more. Fergie and Ryan Seacrest will host the soiree.
