Mark Burnett brings 'The Voice of America' to NBC

Reality show producer Mark Burnett's already working on bringing an "Amazing Race" clone to ABC, and now he's taking on "American Idol" and "The X-Factor" with NBC's spring singing competition, "The Voice of America."

According to, the show, based on the Dutch series "The Voice of Holland," features four celebrity artists who act as coaches and mentors for the talent.

During auditions, the coaches sit with their backs to the contestants so they can hear but not see them. The coach then pushes a button if he or she wants to take that contestant on as a student. If more than one coach chooses the same contestant, the contestant decides which coach he or she wants to work with.

Once their teams are formed, the coaches train and groom their students and then pit them against each other. Two team members are given the same song to perform in front of a studio audience, and the coaches decide whether they want to continue mentoring the singer.

Next, the top contestants from each team compete in a live broadcast, with the home audience choosing the final four. One contestant will be named "The Voice of America" in the series finale.

"Somebody will show up with all the right moves and look like a star, but their voice is only good, not great, and they don't get chosen," Burnett said of the series in the Hollywood Reporter. "You're dealing only with your sense of hearing - do you believe this voice is worthy of your commitment? The coaches have skin in the game and will be a part of the careers of these young performers after the show."

The show from Holland was excellent! Check out some of the videos from the Holland show here: They also have information regarding the American show and some new possible contestants.

Yep, sounds like a great concept indeed. Well, especially since it was one that I had submitted to a contest run by Bass Ale FOR Mark Burnett 5 years ago called "Pitch Your Reality TV Show Contest"(and, yes, I have proof). Nice to know that a muti-millionaire needs to steal show ideas from a disabled person with chronic illness living off of social security. Good job, Mark. I hope you're proud of yourself.

I can't wait to watch it! This will be better than watching a Simon and Paula-less American Idol! ! ! American Idol turned into a fashion show/popularity contest. This will be interesting!

He usually hits a home run. I will check it out, even though I don't really like singing shows. It usually seems like a screaming contest. Who can be the loudest.
