Billy Ray Cyrus tweets after Miley's bong video surfaces"Hannah Montana" fans may not be the only ones disappointed with Miley Cyrus after video of her doing a bong hit surfaced on Friday. "Sorry guys. I had no idea," her father, Billy Ray Cyrus tweeted later that day, reportedly in reference to the footage, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. Im so sad. There is much beyond my control right now." As Marquee previously reported, Billy Ray, 49, announced in October that he and Miley's mom, Tish, were divorcing.
"As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family," the couple told CNN in a statement. "We are trying to work through some personal matters." Now the pair have another matter on their hands. The headline-making video of their daughter, shot days after her 18th birthday in November, features the once squeaky-clean teen laughing and rambling as she smokes the hallucinogenic herb salvia. "I'm having a little bit of a bad trip," Miley says to the camera.

first off it doesn't matter if Salvia is legal in CA it still doesn't make it right to smoke it with a video camera in your face especially when you are the role model to younger more impressionable kids. it isn't right for anyone to smoke any kind of drug i strongly disagree with any person abusing substances which is what she did here. i understand that people make mistakes and that people also learn from them but people should serioulsy consider the consequences of these mistakes. she has influence over these young kids and they see this and may think well if my idol does it then it should be ok. i also agree that parents should be more involved with their children and not just place them in front of the television all the time but today we live in a digital age where media is everything. its really difficult for parents to comepletely control what their children see or hear from media, its not just on the t.v. its on the internet and the radio. its impossible for parents to keep this stuff from there kids unless you lock them in a closet for their whole life. and all these people that are making excuses for Miley, just stop, she had a choice she clearly made on her own, also defending her saying we should stop "judging" her. we are not judging her but just saying our opionions of her, and if she doesn't want the criticism of her fans or those who are parents of her fans or the opionions from them then she should do nothing, say nothing and be nothing. its simple as that.
I think that every one needs to focus more on their own lives than her life. So what if she was celabrating her birthday. Your the one ruining this young ladys appearence to the younger ladys. Placing a such video on the television for her fans to see is rude. At least bring a topic more important to your show such as the four decomposing bodys found by a police officer. This is drama! There is more to the USA than miley's life style of set. Your as mature as my dog. Real talk.
she is in the public eye, she allows us to see her life, so of course we are going to comment on it thats just a fact of life, you cannot sit there and say you have never "badmouthed" a celeb. everyone has she is not the first to be talked about like this she will not be the last. also we have not done anything to ruin appearence to the younger audience she did this all by herself when she did this with a video camera in her face. this was her choice not ours.
It is Legal in CA to smoke so shut the f up. Why is it ok if non celebs smoke it but a big deal when she smoked it. If it's bad for you then they should not sell it at all to anyone.
Actually every child in this world is susceptible to mistakes, as a parent you have to take the time early in their lives to explain the potential downfalls that may arise from the decisions they are making. That "explaining" is continual and not just a post-it in their lives. The issue is if you wait too late then children do have a false sense of reality in general this is without the Hollywood lifestyle which, sadly applifies it's own realities more than we could probably understand. The child believes that since she is 18 she's an adulthood, but most parents know that 18 year old average kids can be extremely irresponsible and do dumb stuff even if your talking to them constantly and are responsible parents. As a parent I would never wish any harmful thing on another parent when it comes to their children understanding the pain that it can cause to see your child exposed in such a fashion that the world becomes a brutal judge. I hope and pray they find peace and come out stronger in the end.

I would be much more surprised if she hadn't tried any drugs, especially being in Hollywood. This isn't even news. I understand that she is going through alot, i even understand the family is going through alot, i also understand a need to escape,what confuses me is that her father and mother know nothing. You know,if you know your kids, what their into. Children are born as blank slates. We and those we allow close enough, color in the shades. Somewhere along the line something slipped. We are not our childs friend, they have plenty of them. We are to nurture and mold them. What was Hannah Montana really taught?
She needs to live and learn from her own mistakes. All her life she has had somebody critiquin her every move and has been so afraid to make a mistake because she didnt want to be judged by anybody. So now she sees this as her way to act out because of what is happening to her parents. So what everybody is not perfect so dont expect them to be. I am judged by only one person and last time i checked the media was not God!

alspin: you raise a very important point. This is not a stoners world. This is a world for all types and varieties of people. We all have to share it together somehow. crazy, I know. I pretend parts of society don't exist and I'm pretty happy and successful.
some know about herbs and some know lots about science, or physics... or whatever. The importance of your post is children are involved. This world has a lot of families and that means kids are watching this and in this case is a bad thing. If your child has seen this, explain to them the truth in detail, at your discretion of course, but because you are knowledgable about a natural plant and it's effects does not make you a person to condone to support this activity.
Children are very understanding. You can explain it in a way that is slightly protective and let your children know, in your tone, how you feel about the topic and what the consequences are if they try this activity. This is responsible parenting.
don't just assume that the media is our new teachers and parents. That's the problem sometimes, we need to unplug and spend more family time, stay away from social gossiping sites. As the daughter of an 11 year old Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus fan, I am not happy to hear this BUT (note the capital BUT)...she is an 18 year girl. How many of us would want pictures of what we did as teenagers all of the internet to be judged by millions? She made a REALLY STUPID mistake, but I imagine there are 10s of thousands of teenagers making stupid mistakes around the world everyday! If I have anything to shake my finger at, it is...why have these kids (and adults) learned that you CANNOT do this kind of stuff on video and expect it to stay private!!

the whole issue is blown out of proportion because she's "Famous". Salvia has been around for a long time and been used in rituals and in ceremonies for healing purposes and other reasons Shamans have to use it. Just because someone has a bad experience doesn't mean it should be banned. If I go to a restaurant and have a bad experience with a crazy concoction of food and have a bad experience, like the runs and stomach ache, I don't think that item or restaurant should be banned.
Salvia Divinorum has been around without being a menace to society and now it's up in the air because one star got caught with it. I say ban the star and keep the Salvia around for those who like it and enjoy it. I don't happen to like it. Terrible experience for me 50X or 50:1 strength, aweful anxiety and paranoia. just for the record a terrible waste of a half hour or so.

I am 21 years old. I've tried different things, and that's the only way to learn. It's not like she was doing something illegal. Salvia is a legal substance that has most of the same affects of weed. Yes she is a role model for many children but no child with respectable parents will do what a celebrity does. She is her own person and people need to lay off of her. Miley is growing up and she has a job. Her job does not require her to be perfect. Look at your own lives if you want to get down on her because no one is perfect
However, in terms of her being a huge role model to teens/ pre-teens/ and tweens alike, she has a responsibility to keep such activities behind closed doors if she chooses to partake. Her biggest career mistake is letting this video get on the web. Now everybody wants a say in the matter, don't we? I'm here talking about it, now I feel silly.
Regardless, being the role model that she is, she has crossed the line and this isn't something she can easily erase. she just cost her daddy his retirement. imagine all the sales of her stuff and ticket sales down... I think daddy was setting up a Roth IRA or a retirement account with her. This is where professionally, she should be contractually punished and perhaps work for money like all the rest of us. but still. she had a choice as she is of age. she messed up. possibly her career forever because of a silly video that should have remained PRIVATE. she then could save face professionally and on a personal level in life, she could be a normal human being.
