Black Eyed Peas' album debuts at No. 6

Hopefully the Black Eyed Peas aren’t too salty about their latest album’s record sales – the super-group arrived at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with their latest effort, “The Beginning.”

Although there was incentive to snag a copy of the ensemble’s album, since fans could win a chance to see the Peas perform live during their halftime performance at the Super Bowl XLV, the record sold 119,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Billboard speculates that the lower-than-last-time debut could have something to do with the middling reception to the album’s single, “The Time (Dirty Bit).” Comparatively, when the group’s last album, “The E.N.D.,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts in June, 2009, their single “Boom Boom Pow” was enjoying its 11th week as the top single on the Billboard Hot 100.

Yet the group’s still faring better than others – Soulja Boy of “Crank Dat” and “Pretty Boy Swag” fame has sold only 13,000 copies of his latest album, “DeAndre Way.”

Besting them all, including last week's chart champions Kanye West and Nicki Minaj, is Susan Boyle, whose album "The Gift" is sitting pretty at No. 1 with 272,000 copies sold.

Just in ... Billboard's No.1 Top Billboard 200 Album for 2010 (or Album of the Year) is ..... SUSAN BOYLE's debut album 'I Dreamed A Dream' with 3.8 million CDs, followed by Eminem ('Recovery"), Lady Antebellum ('Need You Now'), Lady Gaga ('The Fame') and, at No. 5 Justin Bieber (My World 2.0)!!! ... and no Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, hmmmmm!?!

Horrible group. Just awful. Over-commercialized and watered-down. No originality. Lyrical garbage. Extreme lack of talent. Should I continue?....

they were much much much better before the sold out and had Fergie into their group. They were once one of the best underground hip hop groups. it's disappointing to hear and see their fame get to their head. And to think I use to watch them at Stubbs BBQ in Austin, TX, where they actually performed real music.

I'm looking forward to their performance at the Super Bowl, however, I just think it is counter productive for an artist to use even excerpts of another artists work in their own work, regardless of whether they have permission or not. It just defeats the whole purpose of putting out your own work. Congrats to them for their success and I wish them well in the future, but to will.i.am, I just think a true artist is one that does not require a machine to change their vocal style.

The single was lame compared to their last album. It had no hype like the last album and their using all the same old tricks from the last album...will.i.am needs to get off the last albums nuts and do something inspiring again. FAIL.
