Steve Harvey's advice book gets a 'remix'

Shanae Hall doesn’t think women should have to “think like a man” in order to get one.

The Sirius satellite radio personality has written “Why Do I Have To Think Like A Man,” which is a counterpoint to Steve Harvey’s New York Times best-seller, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man.”

Hall, who is the ex-wife of former NFL player Cory Hall, even managed to snag an endorsement from one of Harvey’s best friends, actor/comedian Cedric the Entertainer.

She told Black Voices that she had her mother – who co-authored the book – to thank for bringing Harvey’s work to her attention.

“We were in the process of writing our book, and I read his book and thought, 'Really, so now I have to think like a man to get a man? ...[I]s that what they were doing in the '20s, '30s and '40s, thinking like men?'" she said. “I think there is some truth to [our playing off his title for attention] because it was so catchy. It's no difference to a song that comes out and someone does a remix.”

Hall said she disagrees with some of the advice in Harvey's book, which helped land him on Oprah Winfrey's couch sharing his wisdom.

“The comment that he made when he said women are the primary reason that men cheat...I felt like he completely disowned the fact that as humans we have moral obligations to our spouses and you can't blame all on Tiger Woods' groupies for Tiger Woods sleeping with everyone," Hall said.

The author added she wouldn’t even mind getting Harvey to follow in the steps of his buddy Cedric the Entertainer and endorse her new book.

“I just talked to Ced and I told him, 'I take it Steve is not too angry because he has to have seen the book by now,' and Ced said, "Steve might even endorse your book because as long as you're not attacking his character, you're just making comments on his philosophy,” Hall said.  ‘Steve's not going to have a problem with that kind of thing.'”

It is good to see this topic tackled from a woman's perspective but, Steve gives the inside track to the thinking of a man. I never realized how simple men really were or at least I didn't want to recognize it. Men and women need to stop getting married for the hell of it and cry poor me when the other steps out. I know men who have cheated while dating and the women they marry want to be a victim when he continues to do it in the marriage. What do we say about those who knew before they got married? Women say I want him and I want to be married, well you got exactly what you asked for. You got him and he married you. No one is a victim, you just got to know how to play the game.

While I agree that it's the man that decides to cheat, women should have some respect for themselves and dignity and get their own damn man......I mean, seriously......I would have to hit an all-time low to give out free $ e x to a man that goes home every night and sleeps next to, and provides for, another woman.

    No way.
