Daniel Radcliffe is a little confused on Funny or DieAfter 10 years of playing Harry Potter, it seems Daniel Radcliffe is having a little trouble breaking character. In a humorous new Funny or Die video, the 21-year-old actor claims that he really is the boy wizard and is just playing the role of a man named Daniel Radcliffe. "It was probably around the time of the fourth film that I kind of started to realize that I was Harry," he explains in a mock interview. "I thought I was an actor playing a wizard, but really, I was a wizard playing an actor."
Uh… so how does all that work? "I go from my Harry life, when I am me, and then I walk out of the room, and then I am Dan, the actor," he says. "Dan is a fantastic character who I really enjoy - I've really enjoyed playing him. And this kind of split reality which I live on, which we all live on, it was a revelation when I discovered that that's how the world works." Now that Harry has defeated all of the evildoers, he just "kind of chills out a lot. I talk to women. Tell them that I'm Harry and see where that gets me." Despite ridding the world of dark forces, it's Harry's quidditch skills that make him most proud. "I've spoken to at least two or three professional quid players who think any team would be lucky to have me," he boasts.

To all the religious zealots out there...Jesus didn't just preach, he used allegories and stories to teach. Great teachers of all types do. If you want to, you could consider that the Harry Potter books are extended allegorical literature - but you don't want to. If you don't want to read them, don't. If you do want to read them, do. If you don't want to go to the movies, noone is forcing you. If you don't like the idea of the Harry Potter books, don't come on a blog about them or the actors in them and pour your vituperation on those of us who like them (and if you don't know what the word means, look it up in the dictionary then in a mirror). This "freak" as you called him was acting in a play called "Equus". If you aren't familiar with the play, you don't know that "equus" is the genus of horses, donkeys, zebras and onagers, which explains the connection to a horse and Dan Radcliffe. The play is a classic by playwright Peter Schaffer, and won bunches of awards in the 70s when it came out. It is considered by critics to be an extremelly difficult and mature role for a young actor, and Radcliffe eventually received a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actor in a Play for the role. It was an indication that Dan's acting in Harry Potter was not a fluke, but just the beginning for a young man with a lot of talent.

Daniel Radcliffe: My career ends when Harry Potter ends.
You do know he's been in other things, other than Harry Potter I mean. He's been in 6 other films and the play Equus. I think his career will be over when he decides it is.
These fanitics remind me of "The Church Lady" who used to be on SNL. She would shame everybody for eating red Jello because it was the color of "Satan". These poor people need to get a life. I can't imagine living everyday of my life trying to find something wrong with everything others are enjoying. Their lives must be so boring and depressing ,and I've got a big surpirse for them....I'm of the Christian faith and very spiritual. The Lord loves me just as much as he does them and He couldn't care less if I read Harry Potter books or not. Believe me...He has more important things to think about.
It is unbelievable that these silly religious zealots can make a big religious argument out of books and films that are meant for entertainment, period.
I was thrilled to watch those three young actors growing up on film. They had the extraordinary experience of working with, and learning from, some of the greatest stage and film actors to ever perform in Great Britain. Those children blossomed from unsure child actors to a beautiful young woman and two handsome young men who are all very talented.
I'm sure that we will see more of all three of them in films.
I'm still hoping to someday see Daniel Radcliffe as Dr. Who!!!

JOhn 14:6 says that Jesus is the only way to heaven. why do you choose the loser, satan, over the Lord, Jesus? I am a conservative Christian. Actually, the Harry Potter series has very important lessons for children and adults, alike. There are many churches that use Harry Potter in bible study classes because of the great morals and ethics shown in the books. Get past the magic and see the value of the series. Look at all of the magic in C.S Lewis's and Tolken (sic) books, and they are embraced by the Christian community.

Actually it doesnt say dont judge, it says "judge not lest ye be judged". What it means is more of a be careful of how you judge someone because the severity of how judgmental you are to someone else is the severity with which God will judge you. So let him be that narrow-minded about a book/movie, about fantasy, that teaches nothing but sacrificing ones self for friends and standing up for your beliefs and that family isnt about your bloodline but those around you because when he stands in judgment for the things he's done in his life, he'll be held to that same narrow line.

God hates witchcraft. If you're a Christian and you've been watching these movies, you need to repent. If someone that you truly loved and cared about told you that they did not like something, would you look for a "loophole" or make some excuse to do it anyway? If you really love God, you will hate the same things that He does.

Thorrsman, I became a Christian 3 1/2 years ago, but before that, I did like to watch Harry Potter with my kids. We all have to make a choice in this life who we are going to serve – God or satan. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord Jesus Christ.
Also, before you judge "that book", why don't you try reading it for yourself? Try the book of John – the New Living Translation is easy to understand.

I've read your book, among many others. No impressed. Now, if you really have any knowledge of the Harry Potter novels: What holiday shows up the most in these books? Even in the last and darkest of the series?
Need a hint?: It is the one that the early Church stolen from the Pagans, along with all the trimmings, only adding their own narrative to it.
And the character that the Church invented early on, Satan, appears no where in the Harry Potter novels.
Sigh – Either you're a a) troll b) someone with a dry sense of humor or c) A Christian version of someone from the Taliban. Since I have seen other examples of (c) when it comes to Harry Potter – try and wrap your mind around this – it's a fairy tale. Period. It is not meant to be taken literally. Take away the witchcraft part of it and you have a basic tale with good lessons for everyone; even the ultra conservative ministers admiit that much. The witchcraft is something that provides a setting and a means of story conflict. So get over it.
Christianity is the biggest hoax ( fairy-tale) so aren't you talking about the same thing ?

You act like you're so superior to everyone else, yet really you're the only one here who is being conned into believing such extremism. You know what religious interpretation like yours can lead to? Was wondering how long it would take to have someone play the God card. If your God is so on dimensional that he cannot allow people to enjoy a fictional story, then there isn't much to look forward to in heaven. Perhaps the other side will be a lot more interesting. Good movies, interesting people and a ruler with a sense of humor. Reservations in Hell please. 🙂
3 1/2 years ago Dan became a Christian – and my guess is before that, you were all gung-ho about something else. Perhaps if you stopped filling your mind and heart with beliefs that cause you to hate others (and speak for God, no less), maybe you could come to terms with whatever it is about yourself and/or what happened to you in the past, so you could see past the dogma of fundamentalist Christianity and actually get to what Christianity is really about. (Hint: Opening your heart as Christ did, seeing yourself in others, recognizing there are as many paths to God as there are people, and that God is a whole lot smarter and bigger than you.)
As a Christian and former seminary student, I think HP is fantastic. The whole series plays like a long Christian allegory. Harry voluntarily gives up his life to save his friends and fellow students — the highest ideal in Christianity. The examples of loyalty, devotion to family, self-sacrificing opposition to evil, repentance, respect for the authority of older, wiser elders . . . HP teaches great values. Not to mention how thoroughly entertaining it is.
Mark835, Do you really think that you can dress sin up and present it in a way that it is now not sin? Do you believe that God is ok with it? He makes it very clear in scripture that we are to stay far from it. Do you not see how many children (and adults) have become indoctrinated? If Harry Potter is teaching such "good values", why have so many of HP's disciples reacted so hatefully to my comment? Is this consistent with Christianity?
As I said originally, IF YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN – you need to repent. Love God and not the things of this world. If you are not a follower of Jesus Christ, then it really does not matter if you read/watch HP or not.

I've been a Christian for 15 years, have my Masters in Divinity, am a minister, and for me the Harry Potter series ranks right up there with Lord of the Rings when it comes to Fantasy. In other words, I love it.
Dan, I doubt anything I can say will temper your views but I want to respond for two reasons 1) I feel it's important for other readers to know you don't represent all believers, 2) I hope maybe I'm wrong and you have enough humility to see that perhaps your knowledge of literature, faith, and these novels isn't broad enough to use this blog as a platform to call all believers to repentance. So we'll see.
The issue with witchcraft in Scripture is that it requires individuals to work with or manipulate malevolent spirits for their own personal advantage. Christians should definitely avoid that type of "magic." However, the "magic" used in Harry Potter does not follow this description in any way. Even James Dobson of Focus on the Family, the stalwart of the religious right, agrees that the magic in Harry Potter operates as a science rather than real witchcraft. Witches/wizards in HP are born with their "abilities." They either have them or they don't, there's actually nothing anyone can do to change that (Examples: Petunia and Filch) they attend Hogwarts to learn the science.
The overall story of HP is the classic good vs. evil, with love as the highest ethic. The themes and "magic" in this book are not really any different than what we see in Tolkein's novels. I don't try to read Christian themes into HP (Tolkein was open about including a Christ figure, etc.) because Rowling has been clear that was not her intention. But that doesn't lessen their entertainment value. I believe God loves good narrative, I mean, the Bible is primarily narrative. Stories move us and HP is a good story with good values and moves most of us toward good things (there may be some out there who want to be in Slytherin house; I prefer Gryffindor myself 🙂
So Dan, I would encourage you to back up and also consider Jesus' words to the Pharisees who were confident in their own "righteousness" and weighed people down with laws he never asked them to follow. I am very thankful that you've come to faith and I remember how black and white things were for me when I first became a Christian so I sympathize but I would encourage you to speak with wisdom and a great deal more humility. Maybe for you to grow you need to avoid these books but I can say with confidence that's not true for everyone. As Augustine said, "In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity." I can assure you, this is a non-essential issue when it comes to how we should practice our faith.
@hmm... Wow you are one of the most thoughtful Christians I've seen posting in these online discussions. I am an atheist but I applaud the effort you made to point Dan in the right direction here. I wish more Christians like you could help enlighten folks like Dan who are constantly posting like they know exactly what's right and wrong, and think they have the authority to tell people what to think and believe. I may be an atheist, but I have also read the bible. However this fact does not seem to impress folks like Dan, so I know my arguments often fall on deaf ears. Kudos to you! 🙂

In case you don't know, Daniel Radcliffe's actually funny and smart. And yes, British humour is black humour, so if you don't know that, you won't get this. Too bad Funny or Die isn't funny anymore.
UGH just because it's British doesn't mean it's funny. This is sort of funny, but c'mon, even if you're familiar with British humo(u)r, this isn't exactly gold or anything. It's a little fun I guess, but don't overrate it just because you feel like you're in an exclusive club of "American's who understand British humor". Unless you are British. Then I look like a dick. But otherwise I'm sure you don't really understand the vast majority of British humor.

Daniel Radcliffe has spent the past decade in the spotlight playing Harry Potter, but the actor will soon be closing the curtain on the part that made him famous. It will be a big change for him and I am waiting to see what he does next. At least we will get to see the next deathly-hallows movie.
Daniel Radcliffe has appeared in several productions beyond the HP movies already. He already has a career beyond Potter.
It's a mock interview, not reality. And after he finishes HP, so what if he never gets another acting gig (though he has many), he's going to continue to make money off HP until the day he dies, then his children/family will get the royalties. HP will become a classic and will always make mega bucks.
He was pretty amazing in "Equus". If that's any indication of what we can expect from him in his post-HP film roles, we're in for a real treat.
