NBC developing pilot for Chelsea Handler comedy

Comedian Chelsea Handler's life is just one big joke – which makes it the perfect material for a new TV show.

Deadline.com reports that NBC is developing a pilot for "Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea," an autobiographical comedy named for the second of Handler's three humor books and based on her life in her 20s.

The 35-year-old "Chelsea Lately" host – who is co-producing the new show - won't star in the series, nor will the lead character be a comic, but the storylines will draw from her best-selling essays about dating, sex, family and her everyday experiences.

Besides producing the NBC series, Handler is also keeping plenty busy with "After Lately," an upcoming scripted comedy for E! that will examine what happens behind the scenes at her late-night talk show, and is currently filming the movie "This Means War" with Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy.

Chelsea Handler is about as funny as a clump of mud. Oh wait, she'll fit right in with the NBC crowd of lameness. NBC, would you just stop acting like you're trying, already? Nobody buys it.

No one watches network news. Their sows tank. Sports are about to go to places like the NFL network...I guess all that is left is LCD. Maybe Chris Matthews can have a guest spot.

This is akin to NBC slamming its head against the wall repeatedly and hoping it won't hurt one of these times.

It is sad that there are so many female comedianes struggling to make it but this marginally talented women keeps getting more and more popular. Lowest common denominator comedy. Count me out.

I wonder if her new show will go from funny and original to overly political, offensive and unfunny like her and her career.
