Who will be 'Skating with the Stars'?

“Dancing with the Stars” has been a hit on ABC for more than five years, but will trading the dance floor for a skating rink bring similar success?

We'll soon be able to tell, as the network has unveiled its celebrity lineup for “Skating with the Stars," leading up to the show's premiere on  November 22.

The six-week series will feature six celebrities paired with professional skating partners in a quest to come out on top. Check out the contestants after the jump.

Bethenny Frankel – The “Real Housewives” alum finished second in the Martha Stewart edition of “The Apprentice” a few years back.

Sean Young – The colorful actress, best known for playing Rachael in the 1982 movie “Blade Runner,” has recently been seen playing Meggie McClaine on the CBS soap “The Young and the Restless.”

Jonny Moseley – He won gold in freestyle skiing at the 1998 Winter Olympics, but skis aren’t allowed on the skating rink.

Vince Neil – The Motley Crue frontman looks to kickstart his skating skills on this show.  Hopefully, he won’t go away mad if he’s eliminated early, he’ll just go away.

Rebecca Budig – She plays Greenlee Smythe on the ABC soap “All My Children,” and was once married to “Bachelor” alum Bob Guiney.

Brandon Mychal Smith – I admit I had no idea who this person is, so I did some research.  Turns out he appears on the Disney Channel show “Sonny with a Chance,” but plays neither Sonny nor Chance.

Do you plan on watching “Skating with the Stars”?

Figure skating is one of my favorite events to watch during the Winter Olympics. So, out of curiosity, I'll watch the first episode of this figure skating show. If it's any good, I'll watch the rest of the show.

I watched the one a few years ago and it was fun, except for the scandel. I must say though that I knew more of the "stars" then. The only 2 I know of these are Jonny Mosely, because I watch the olympics and I have seen Sean Young in movies, she is an actress .Sadly, the ONLY reason I would watch this time around will depend on who the pros are.

Must say I have never read so many negative opinions about anything by people that must not even Ice Skate much less practiced not minutes, not hours ,not weeks, not months but were dedicated and practiced for years .
If you don't want to watch it don't thats your choice but to keep downgrading Ice skaters you sound like a bunch of controlling bully's and this is the exact action of bully's .
I don't know where the person gathered her knowledge of Ice skating being so much easier than dancing thats only their opinion .

I, for one, am very tired of these new reality shows. American Idol, America's Got Talent, Dancing With the Stars... -Shudders.- Some of these shows make me want to gag, scream and throw things all at the same times. -Sigh.- It could be worse. It could be Rock of Love 357 or I Love New York 72. Ugh. I'm getting a stress-induced headache just thinking about it.

Skating with the stars has really taken over early Sunday night. While the pro skaters are probably recognizable to people in the US because of their 0lympic and other skating awards, the hockey players are not now current heroes. Why should they be? This is high hockey season, and all the best are playing. The men are all well known to hockey fans here, and because they are not now skating for teams, they can devote the necessary learning and practice time – switching from one skate to another isn't the easiest thing in the world and skating in tandem with a partner's jumps and lifts requires a level not easy to achieve. That said, its a fun show to watch, the judges are good – Sandra Bezic really knows because she's a choreographer; Scott Hamilton, Dick Button guest judges ditto. That said, I love Ron McLean but somebody has to tell him this isn't a hockey game! As for the US copy, it will be interesting to see the other half
of the couples. I'll watch it out of pure curiosity because I love skating – and I am from the US although I've lived in 0ntario for a lot of years. It won't be the same level, let's face it. but it could be fun. Keep an open mind – not an open mouth and a closed mind!

As for being out of work, I guess if you call fronting Motley Crue on massive world tours, owning a couple of tattoo shops, owning Feelgoods (A Vegas nightclub), having your own wine label & your own brand of tequila out of work......

As a trained ballet dancer, I would like to point out that ice skating, contrary to popular belief, is not easier than dancing of any kind. Logic might lead you to believe that ice skating is dancing on ice, therefore it must be harder – but that's not necessarily true. The use of momentum is probably the best example of this. Ice skaters are able to jump high and do many turns in the air because the ice gives them the momentum they need to do it. Dancers, however, need to create their own momentum for everything they do, which actually makes it more difficult to turn and jump, and they are still often able to perform more turns that an ice skater. Dancing also comes with the necessity of understanding anatomy and being able to use muscles that are deep inside the body and only accessible to those who know how to use them. DWTS makes it seem like dancing is easy because the routines they do are intentionally easy. Of all the contestants on DWTS over the years, very, very few have actually been any good. Dancing may be a bit easier than ice skating at the beginning, but it is harder to refine dance skills than it is to refine ice skating skills.

Why do people care so much about who is on the show? Go back to season 1 of DWTS and tell me who the celebrities were on that show, not exactly the 'A' list celebs. After that show became popular, more star name agreed to do it.

Why do people care so much about who is on the show? Because it's called Skating with the Stars, not Skating with every day Joe's. Networks count on the celebrity's they sign to lure us in, so yeah, kinda want to know who is on to decide if we want to watch.

Battle of the Blades on CBC (available online if you're curious at cbc.ca) is a great show, with some of the top female pairs and dance skaters of the past 15 years: Gordeeva, Bourne, Sale, etc. The hockey players are fairly well-known, not the absolute A-listers, but solid players and a couple of stars. The difference in these shows will be – it seems – that the American 'stars' don't really know how to skate, whereas the hockey players can skate in their sleep, and just have to get used to the toe-pick skates. This second season has been amazing, with the guys delivering at a much higher level than in Season 1.

They already did this a few years back so it's not a copycat, and taking hockey players who CAN skate and teaching them to do ice dance is way different from taking a bunch of people who don't skate and try to teach them to ice dance. The UK version is pretty successful but their celebs are well known. Was Anne Murray on the show? She should be. That would be great! Don't they run out of celebrities? How many celebrities does Canada have? Do they borrow celebrities that were born in Canada but now live in the US or other countries? They should get Peaches on that show. She is Berlin, Germany now. What is the air fair from Berlin to Canada? Do you know Anne Murray? I've heard she is nice. Is this true? She could skate to her own songs. I like "Snowbird." Can you play that on the piano? If you could, you could also sing to it. Anne Murray should both sing and skate. They would probably award her double point for this. My grandma has green knitting needles. How many points can you score? how many judges award the points? Are the Judges celebrities too?

Waste of air time. Other than Jonny Moseley and Vince Neil, there really isn't much of a reason to invest in this show. Get some real stars before you advertise the show.

We already have this show in Canada...it is called "Battle of the Blades" and it pairs figure skaters with former NHL hockey players, is interesting to see them perform with hockey skates while the girls wear figure skates...even though they already know how to skate, figure skating is a whole different experience.

I agree. This show doesn't sound interesting. They should just stick with Dancing with the Stars.

Denise, the men on Battle of the Blades don't wear hockey skates they are in figure skates. Last year Tie Domi wore hockey skates for the first few weeks while the others all swiched after the first show. This year they had a boot camp I think that's what's made the difference. Good Luck to ABC with their C-List "Stars", I'm more interested to know who their partners are.

I dunno, I think I'll give it a chance. I never know any of the C-listers on DWTS, either, but every season I end up enjoying at least a few of them. If you'd told me I'd be rooting for Kelly Osbourne by week four last season I would have laughed in your face. I think I'll at least give it a few weeks before I shut it off. As for comments that amount to "they shouldn't try new things", I disagree. Try 'em. If we have to have reality TV, this is the kind that doesn't suck. Usually. It's not about back stabbing. It's about pushing yourself to accomplish something you never thought you could. Which is the one category of reality show that hasn't lowered the bar for all of television.
