Lovato's reps make it clear she's not in rehab

Don’t get it confused: Demi Lovato is not in “rehab.”

The Disney starlet’s reps want to make it clear that she is in treatment for “emotional and physical issues," which is apparently not the same as being in rehab.

On Tuesday morning, the ladies of “The View" were chatting about Lovato’s recent woes when co-host Whoopi Goldberg referenced the young singer and actress being in rehab.

Moments later, Goldberg quickly cleaned that up by saying that the show had heard from Lovato’s publicist who wanted to make it perfectly clear that she is “not in rehab. She's in a treatment center.

Duly noted.

Take time off? Hate to break it to you but in the world of Disney, there is no such thing as "time off" you have no idea how hard they push these kids do you? Are you aware that as soon as Camp Rock 2 was completed, she went back to work on her album, only to finish up and then promote it back to back WITH Camp Rock 2? Say what you want about the talent, but these kids work way too hard.

My heart aches for this kid. First she was dating one of the jonas bros..they break up and she still has to be in his presence on a daily basis...then to add salt to the wound..the he hooks up with another girl and has the audacity to bring her on tour with him..I think that right there is the biggest kick in the face and she is reacting just like any other teenager would with a broken heart. She is hurting mentally big time...I can relate as can ALL of us that ever got our heart broken by someone. I just hope she can pull herself together and heal. God Bless You Demi!!

Drug issues are universally related to emotional and stress issues ... so the statement that she is being treated for "emotional and physical issues" does not negate that drugs are involved. Still, Kudus to anyone who seeks treatment! Good luck! A step in the right direction!

What we should be worried about is the fact that there are so many inept people within our society!!! Just going through these posts proved that the education system is neglecting too many people. We are suppose to be evolving people, not devolving!!! The fact that so many people on here are adults, but apparently watch the Disney channel (going by the how much knowledge you all have in regards to this actress). Please DO NOT procreate!!!!

"Rehab" is when you take an addict and rehabilitate them to NOT being an addict.

If she has issues with an eating disorder or self-harm, that is NOT an addiction, that is an issue based on what is often a deeply-trouble psychological and/or emotional issue. You are not there to rehabilitate someone from a habit, you are there to treat their -condition-.

As usual I should never expect non-mental-health sufferers to actually understand. Go figure.

Cutting is an addiction. Those who think sending a cutter to a addiction recovery center must mean it`s for drugs is sadly misinformed. I don`t have any real clue as to who she is, but I hope by being proactive in getting help is a sign of a step towards a more healthy lifestyle.

I can't believe some of the comments on here, Demi is an eighteen year old, trying to be a role model for other teens and youth and here people are saying mean stuff and commenting on her when they don't even know what is going through her head. I don't know what being apart of the entertainment industry is like, but I deffinitely know that it isn't an "easy" job as some people might think it is, these actresses and actors are under immense pressure from there producers and anyone else that has authority over them. On top of that, she is eighteen, meaning she has to try and keep up with her school studies, she had to be in the same area as the Jonas brothers after she just broke up with one of them and who know what else could be going on in her life. No one knows her past, she could have things that have built up and now she is trying her best to help herself, is that a bad thing? I think not, if I were her, I'd probably do the same thing. Without going into many details, i know what it's like to hurt that bad inside and I know it's hard to tell anyone about it and to accept the fact that help is needed, so I commend her and look up to her for getting the help she needs, that takes a ton of strength, courage and determination to do. Also, we can't judge her for doing whatever she has done, to herself, whether that is cutting or not, we don't know, but I can tell you if she was cutting, that's probably because she a deeper emotional pain, that's why people cut themselves, to cover the emotional pain inside of them, it becomes a cycle and can be extremely addicting. I'm glad she's getting the help now, rather than later, it's a hrd step to take and she has taken it.

The Jonas Bros are all in love with themselves. A closed trinity of sorts. She's a teenager!! Very talented and very young. I doubt if she had a support system like the Jonas Bros. have. Why can't you be nice to this girl? In our house, we love Demi. (I have a 9 year old daughter.) We think she's been working too hard and has had a hard time getting over her break-up with Joe Jonas. They broke up right before their tour started and she's had to watch all the girls go crazy over him. I feel bad for her and I'm praying for her to get better. As they say in her "La La Land" video, "You go girl"! (That's a song/video about the craziness in L.A.)

Everyone's so quick to judge someone they know nothing about.

Demi's admitted in the past that she has severe depression. She might be chronic bi-polar. On top of this, whe answers the depressive episodes by cutting. For those who don't understand what that cutting really is, it's a process where a person uses a sharp object, like a razor blade, to scratch at the surface of their skin, just enough to draw a little blood, but not enough to cause serious injury. The reason for this is the pain from the cutting causes the body to release endorphines that ease depression. For depressives, cutting can be more addictive than drugs. Typically, a person cuts in areas of large concentrations of nerve endings, forearms, thighs, and for women, even the breasts.

There is always the danger, of course, of slipping with the blade and going too deep. That's when people get in trouble with it. There's also the the fact that, while most of the cuts won't scar, some will.

Depression Cutting isn't something that rehab can help with, because there is no substance abuse. It's a symptom of a more serious mental illness. But it can be overcome in most patients. Not all, sadly. But most.

Thank goodness my life wasn't on public display when I was 18! I was a freshman in college and was way too skinny, drunk much of the time and slept around. I would have been labeled a "trainwreck" if I'd been famous. But our teenange years are when we're psychologically primed to rebel – it's part of the process of growing up. It's Psych 101. But everybody expects these famous kids to handle their fame like 40-year-old adults. Now I'm a typical, boring, staid 40-year-old – not even close to being too skinny anymore, don't even drink much less get drunk, and I haven't "slept around" in a good 20 years.

I think the problem with calling it rehab is the connotation of getting over drug use.

How many young stars manage to have a celebrity career without drug abuse or severe emotional problems? Because it's so pervasive, I really don't think it's about "weak people", it seems a lot more like there's something about the system and the fame that is developmentally damaging.

Whomever wrote this blurb for this blog: educate yourself about mental illness. A treatment center can treat mental conditions of all sorts (they used to be called asylums or psychiatric hospitals), including addiction. I'm sick and tired of people who don't understand mental illnesses condescending to people or conjecturing what the causes may be for their condition. I've never heard of Demi Lovato, but she has my well-wishes for reaching a balance. Good luck, young lady, and stay strong.

Should be diva rehab, these kids get thrown into the celebrity lifestyle way to young and when things don't go the way they want, that's when the drugs, alcohol kick in, I would never let my child as a KID get involved in that horrible world called show business until they were old enough to understand what that kind of life is really like or about, so she got dumped, to a normal kid that's hard, but when your in that three ring circus called showbuisness and it is plasterd on every type of media that's REALLY hard, I guess what I'm saying is, parents don't put your kids in these type of situations, let them be kids and grow up, learn, live life don't let it all be handed to them, think there are many, many examples of child stars not seeing real life until its to late and then they don't know what to do.

The girl has a recording career, has been on a worldwide tour for the last 3 months, stars in a successful sitcom, is the star of a film franchise, and does publicity for all of the above – and you're saying she's had everything handed to her? Say all you want about Disney stars not being terribly talented, I really won't argue with you at all. But those kids work their fingers to the BONE, especially once they hit 18 and Disney doesn't have to comply with child labor laws anymore.

It would help a LOT if this mysterious rep would explain why his client is "in treatment." Everyone is going to assume drugs or alcohol if they hear that phrase. At least provide an explanation that would stop people from jumping to those conclusions. This would also help de-stigmatize mental health problems – because if it's not drugs or alcohol, it's got to be related to that.

I heard it was because she has an eating disorder and has been cutting herself, which is not something one goes to "rehab" for. It's something you seek medical treatment for.

Treatment center, rehab.... same thing, different wording. I don't know anything about this young woman, but I hope she is able to get her life under control before it becomes an impossibility, as it has for Lindsay Lohan.

They are not the same thing. Treatment centers treat a wide variety of mental conditions.

That is innacurate because I am an adult that watches the disney channel because I have a 5 year old.

Baloney. There are several stories about Demi's exploits with drugs, and her mental health problems are well known. She may not be a full blown addict, but she's not this squeaky clean Disney girl who's simply stressed out as her publicist wants you to believe.

Of course, a stressful life could NEVER cause mental issues and substance abuse. Baloney identified!- and it was in your post. Don't judge this girl, you don't know anything about her.

    Potato, potahto...

In all seriousness though, whatever ails Ms. Lovato, I hope the problem is addressed quickly.

I agree Brickles – I hope she gets better. I don't know her or of her work (I'm a little old for that). But I know that she's in a career with a huge amount of pressure, particularly for someone so young. Some can handle it, some can't. When I was 18 my biggest worry was getting into college, not how my image looks when blasted onto building sized screens that show every pore and pimple. When my dating didn't work out, it wasn't the subject of gossip magazines and websites.

And more than just for her, I hope she gets better so that she can provide an example to her young fans that how no matter how glamorous life may appear, there are struggles. And how people can overcome struggles by addressing them and not fleeing from them. If she can do that for just one person, then she's really earned the money and fame that has been tossed at her, and I hope she enjoys success at her chosen path for the future.

I agree that rehab is a term for people who go to a center for treatment of drug and alcohol problems. But before 'going to rehab' become accepted and even popular among celebrities, it was sometimes referred to as treatment for 'exhaustion'. Remember that? It's ironic now that it's the other way around. When you get treatment for emotional or mental issues, it's called rehab!

Uh-huh. Just like how Mary Kate Olsen was in "anorexia treatment" back in 2006 when the center she was staying at only addressed drug problems, or how Lindsay Lohan had "exhaustion and bulimia" on the set of Georgia Rule. Yup.

I wish Ms. Lovato well, but her reps cannot possibly think the public is this dense.

I dunno – you sound pretty dense to me – all your 'insider' knowledge aside. Not to mention pretty self-righteous and judgmental. She 18 – are you too important to give her the benefit of the doubt for a minute? Or are you having flash-backs to what you were like at 18?

Rehab is for quitters and weaklings; I beat two separate, hard chemical addictions because I wanted to do so. Rehab is just a way for the weak and those who don't truly want to quit to get some space and get people off their backs until they can go back to their habits. I know, I was there.

You people are missing Big Gay Al's point. People who go to rehab are quitters because they are quitting their addiction. Don't jump to being offended quite so quickly.

That's what people do nowadays, look for ways to be offended. Why be reasonable and have a sense of humor when you can pick the worst possible interpretation of any given sentence and get angry?

The only difference between Demi Lovato and millions of other 18 year old girls is that she lives in the spotlight, and despite some odd belief that the public has a right to private information because "we pay their salary and lifestyle" , we should not assume what is wrong with this celebrity or where she is or what she is doing. It is none of my business. Why would it be anyone else's? Let's just wish the kid well and move on to another celebrity tid-bit that affects none of our lives.

I like all the supportive messages I am seeing. I cringed as I scrolled down expecting tons of snarky comments. It is nice to see that people understand that she is feeling the pressure and she (and/or her people) are getting help before she DOES end up addicted to something and doing time in rehab.

I have never met more girls (teenagers) who worked for that company vs others, that have had so many serious major issues.. more than just your run of the mill kinds of issues you will find everywhere in Hollywood.. I have no clue why that is strangely enough considering who they are working for... Who knows?
