'The Walking Dead' gets Twitter thumbs up

Editor's Note: If you don't like spoilers of any kind, you should probably stop reading now.

After "The Walking Dead" premiered Sunday night on AMC, reaction to this highly-anticipated series started pouring into Twitter. Overall, it's been mostly very positive, but with a lot of questions.

One Twitter user wrote, "Loved and very disturbed by #walkingdead last night on AMC," while another questioned "how far they can take the series."

Responding to the scene where Rick Grimes' horse is attacked, @marciaesilva asked, "Can a horse become a zombie?" @joshgeeksix noted that "technically, it only answered the question, 'Should I ride a horse into a zombie horde of [Atlantans].'"

(Another question posed by those on Twitter and CNN.com commenters alike is whether or not the story was too similar to "28 Days Later" - for the record the "Walking Dead" comic book came out mere months after the U.S. debut of that movie, so it appears to be coincidental.)

And do you remember the scene where Morgan attempts, and fails, to end his wife's zombie existence? @tylermunro was surprised by his reaction, tweeting, "This show is actually making me [bawl] hardcore. I could never shoot my wife either."

@tonedeff seemed to summarize how most felt overall: "The #WalkingDead was fantastic! They actually managed to make it scarier + more dramatic than the books. Kudos to AMC."

AWESOME!!!! The Romero classics where great, for what they were, but I always came away feeling that they could've been better, given more time to develop the story and characters, and a larger budget for effects. The scene where Morgan tried to shoot his wife, to put her out of he misery was fantastic. It's the first time we've really gotten any insight into who a zombie was before they changed. Awesome, I hope there's more of that kind of background, and emotion. This may turn out to be the ultimate zombie movie!!! I haven't been interested enough in a television show to watch faithfully since I was a kid, but I'll be watching this one every week. I hope it lasts for years.

Agree with Thomas above. The only real similarity is the waking up in a hospital. The storyline later on is where The Walking Dead finds its real strength which has captivated all the readers who follow it. | http://www.amcspreadthedead.com/share?ref=977375908

For all the people who think it's too much like 28 Days Later, you have to STICK with it. Its only similiarity is that it begins with a guy waking up in a hospital... if the show truly follows the comic book, it's going to one seriously twisted and awesome show.

Also, these are ZOMBIES, not 'Rage infected humans' like 28 Days.

Either way, Walking Dead is awesome.

Just perfect. One needs to read the comics first to truly appreciate what's being made now on AMC | http://www.amcspreadthedead.com/share?ref=977375908

For anyone that has not read the comics, now is a great time to go explore your local comic book store! Pick up Walking Dead and support your local economy, plus if you like it there are a ton of other great comics that have nothing to do with superheroes.

Great show & amazing acting. AMC keeps producing top quality series.
Also you have to suspend your disbelief for something like this.
A good read on why the Zomb-pocalypse can't happen:

For those talking about the black characters, I looked around the web, but couldnt find an actress credited to play Michonne.

As a black guy I don't think it matters if there are black characters in the promo. I want to see how Grimes character develops. I'm just glad to see great characters and a compelling plot. Finally something to watch until Spartacus comes back in January.

It was entertaining, but really nothing new. Felt like I'd seen all of it before in pretty much every other zombie movie ever made.

Also, really, I'm getting pretty sick of all the apocalyptic end-of-humanity sort of stories. Maybe I'm getting old, but that sort of thing just doesn't do it for me anymore. I was anticipating this show for weeks, but midway through the premiere I was wondering why I was wasting my time filling my brain with such imagery.

This show was incredible from start to finish. The most unexpected part for me, and brilliant, was giving the zombies a "human" side. This was evident by the man being unable to kill his zombie wife, and the sheriff going back and "putting down" the zombie he first encountered out of the hospital. I'm looking forward now to see if he can start up the tank he is trapped in. I LOVE THIS SHOW

Great show. I hadn't heard of the comic until after I heard about the show. I have the first volume of the trade paperback. Great stuff. One thing I thought was kind of cool is how they made the zombies almost sympathetic characters. The half lady or bicycle lady and the "fresh" zombie- I call her the Lady in White, especially. They're not truly evil, they're just true to their instincts. Can't wait for more.

Kris, if it makes you feel good... Two of the best and most bad ass characters are black. I'm glad they didn't show them cause I'm excited to see them premiere on the show.

Because they're minor characters. In the comics they're visited every once in a while, but as of now they're not full-time characters. Don't worry, if you're looking for a strong black character, you're going to get one. I'm just hoping she shows up by the end of the season.

Awesome show and actually managed to stay true to the comic while also improving on some aspects. Only AMC and maybe Showtime/HBO could have pulled this show off properly, most other networks would have eliminated most of the gore, which isn't excessive, but clearly paints the grim background that is absolutely necessary for apocalyptic zombie shows/movies. I know I can't wait for next week!

Perfectly. If you haven't read the series at this point and want to be surprised, don't pick the book up. That plotline is arguably the best part of the first graphic novel (which is, from the looks of it, what the first season will cover).
