'The Walking Dead' gets Twitter thumbs upEditor's Note: If you don't like spoilers of any kind, you should probably stop reading now. After "The Walking Dead" premiered Sunday night on AMC, reaction to this highly-anticipated series started pouring into Twitter. Overall, it's been mostly very positive, but with a lot of questions. One Twitter user wrote, "Loved and very disturbed by #walkingdead last night on AMC," while another questioned "how far they can take the series." Responding to the scene where Rick Grimes' horse is attacked, @marciaesilva asked, "Can a horse become a zombie?" @joshgeeksix noted that "technically, it only answered the question, 'Should I ride a horse into a zombie horde of [Atlantans].'"
(Another question posed by those on Twitter and CNN.com commenters alike is whether or not the story was too similar to "28 Days Later" - for the record the "Walking Dead" comic book came out mere months after the U.S. debut of that movie, so it appears to be coincidental.) And do you remember the scene where Morgan attempts, and fails, to end his wife's zombie existence? @tylermunro was surprised by his reaction, tweeting, "This show is actually making me [bawl] hardcore. I could never shoot my wife either." @tonedeff seemed to summarize how most felt overall: "The #WalkingDead was fantastic! They actually managed to make it scarier + more dramatic than the books. Kudos to AMC." What did you think? Share your iReport or comment below. |

AWESOME!!!! The Romero classics where great, for what they were, but I always came away feeling that they could've been better, given more time to develop the story and characters, and a larger budget for effects. The scene where Morgan tried to shoot his wife, to put her out of he misery was fantastic. It's the first time we've really gotten any insight into who a zombie was before they changed. Awesome, I hope there's more of that kind of background, and emotion. This may turn out to be the ultimate zombie movie!!! I haven't been interested enough in a television show to watch faithfully since I was a kid, but I'll be watching this one every week. I hope it lasts for years.
Agree with Thomas above. The only real similarity is the waking up in a hospital. The storyline later on is where The Walking Dead finds its real strength which has captivated all the readers who follow it. | http://www.amcspreadthedead.com/share?ref=977375908
For all the people who think it's too much like 28 Days Later, you have to STICK with it. Its only similiarity is that it begins with a guy waking up in a hospital... if the show truly follows the comic book, it's going to one seriously twisted and awesome show.
Also, these are ZOMBIES, not 'Rage infected humans' like 28 Days.
Either way, Walking Dead is awesome.
Just perfect. One needs to read the comics first to truly appreciate what's being made now on AMC | http://www.amcspreadthedead.com/share?ref=977375908
For anyone that has not read the comics, now is a great time to go explore your local comic book store! Pick up Walking Dead and support your local economy, plus if you like it there are a ton of other great comics that have nothing to do with superheroes.
Loved it!!! It was so much better than what I expected. They knocked it out of the park. Can't wait for the next episode.
Love it!
Great show & amazing acting. AMC keeps producing top quality series.
Also you have to suspend your disbelief for something like this.
A good read on why the Zomb-pocalypse can't happen:

Did not disappoint!
For those talking about the black characters, I looked around the web, but couldnt find an actress credited to play Michonne.
As a black guy I don't think it matters if there are black characters in the promo. I want to see how Grimes character develops. I'm just glad to see great characters and a compelling plot. Finally something to watch until Spartacus comes back in January.
This show is off to a great, creepy start.
i bet the kid gets the most killings with his bare hands(dont kno how mabye he like sticks his hand up the zombies nose and like pokes his brain alot and dies)
wait is it like a show about zombies or some thing like that or is it just one of those where a white town gets a new person in town AND HE ISNT WHITE!
great show, thank you AMCfor haveing the guts and showing them getting eaten for putting this show on tv.long may it live or dead. lol
It was entertaining, but really nothing new. Felt like I'd seen all of it before in pretty much every other zombie movie ever made.
Also, really, I'm getting pretty sick of all the apocalyptic end-of-humanity sort of stories. Maybe I'm getting old, but that sort of thing just doesn't do it for me anymore. I was anticipating this show for weeks, but midway through the premiere I was wondering why I was wasting my time filling my brain with such imagery.
loved the show, cant wait til next week
Pretty much anything Frank Darabont does is awesomesauce so kudos 2 him. I still don't understand why British actors are playing Southern rednecks, but w/e. I loved the ep & can't wait 2c more!
its a good show just hope they dont end it soon like all the other shows they end after 5-10 shows air.
missed the first few minutes of the premiere and ended up watching the whole episode back to back. great show.
This show was incredible from start to finish. The most unexpected part for me, and brilliant, was giving the zombies a "human" side. This was evident by the man being unable to kill his zombie wife, and the sheriff going back and "putting down" the zombie he first encountered out of the hospital. I'm looking forward now to see if he can start up the tank he is trapped in. I LOVE THIS SHOW
Great show and not a sissy vampire in sight cant wait for next week.
GREAT SHOW!!! Can't wait to see what's going to happen in the 1st season!
Garik: "I thought the first episode was really awesome and I hope the series goes on for a long time!!"....Anna: Good Show 🙂
Finally something to replace the hole LOST ate in my brain...
Great show. I hadn't heard of the comic until after I heard about the show. I have the first volume of the trade paperback. Great stuff. One thing I thought was kind of cool is how they made the zombies almost sympathetic characters. The half lady or bicycle lady and the "fresh" zombie- I call her the Lady in White, especially. They're not truly evil, they're just true to their instincts. Can't wait for more.
I loved it, very creepy, the half woman crawling around was a super effect!
Midtowncomics.com and amazon.com have sales on the novels. So if you want to catch up its cheaper than what I paid. Lol
Jrw, have you read the book? If not, youre in for a surprise what happens with them. Its pretty intense.
Ill let you know this. Don't get attached to the characters they can die at any time. Remember no one is safe from a z-poc
Kris, if it makes you feel good... Two of the best and most bad ass characters are black. I'm glad they didn't show them cause I'm excited to see them premiere on the show.
Enjoyed the show. Looking forward to the next ep. Why aren't the black characters featured in the promo photo? That's a shame. I hope to see more of them.
Because they're minor characters. In the comics they're visited every once in a while, but as of now they're not full-time characters. Don't worry, if you're looking for a strong black character, you're going to get one. I'm just hoping she shows up by the end of the season.
there are no major black characters at the beginning of the story but they got some bad ass black characters coming up.
Awesome show and actually managed to stay true to the comic while also improving on some aspects. Only AMC and maybe Showtime/HBO could have pulled this show off properly, most other networks would have eliminated most of the gore, which isn't excessive, but clearly paints the grim background that is absolutely necessary for apocalyptic zombie shows/movies. I know I can't wait for next week!
You can buy it on youtube for $2.99 in HD. Full 1hr and 7 minutes. No commercials. Great show!!!
How is the interplay between grimes, his partner, his wife and son going to play out? That was more than a little strange
Perfectly. If you haven't read the series at this point and want to be surprised, don't pick the book up. That plotline is arguably the best part of the first graphic novel (which is, from the looks of it, what the first season will cover).
I can't wait for next week!! It was great.
Unfortunately, I missed the episode and am quite disappointed. Does anyone know if it will be on Hulu so I can watch it later?
I don't know about Hulu, but it will be IFC on 11/04 (I think at 12 am).
You can ondemand stream it on Amazon.com, just bought the season pass and watched the episode. Awesome.
Amazing visuals (the peephole shots were so creepy) and great FX. The show really did exceed this zombiephile's expecatations. I can't wait to find how grimes is going to get out of that tank.
amazing show. amazing comic. its the perfect show.
Loved it! Looking forward the the rest of 1st season, and network-permitting, a 2nd season!!
It already has been renewed for a second season.
visually i thought the Wife at the front door looked amazing
and i really liked the way the young boy reacted
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h62un5nys_8
Exceeded all of my expectations. I can't wait to see what comes next.
I haven't read the comic books (yet) so this will make for an interesting ride.
LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME
LOL U WHY U MAD
