Ryan Kwanten cast as Charles Manson

He's surrounded by creepy characters on HBO's "True Blood," but now Ryan Kwanten is ready to play one himself. The actor is set to portray notorious criminal Charles Manson in the upcoming film "The Family," reports MTV.

The movie will trace Manson's life from his childhood through the late 1960s, when he instructed his followers – aka the Manson Family - to commit a series of murders in the Los Angeles area. Among the victims: "Valley of the Dolls" actress Sharon Tate, who was eight months pregnant at the time with filmmaker husband Roman Polanski's child.

"It's going to be quite a challenge," Kwanten says of playing the psychopath, who has been imprisoned for nearly four decades. "[Manson] is undoubtedly a huge iconic figure and not necessarily for the best of deeds."

Best known for playing dimwitted Jason Stackhouse, 33-year-old Kwanten realizes that his latest role – which he'll take on in 2011 – is a bit of a departure.

"It's going to be tapping into sort of dark sides of myself and obviously trying to find out as much as you can and then using what's going to be beneficial in making the film," he says.

I do trust all of the concepts you've offered in your post. They are very convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are very brief for novices. Could you please extend them a bit from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.

I agree. What this man and his followers did was sick, evil and twisted. I have seen posters of this guy. Why? Why would anyone idolize this guy? Do people not realize the horrible things these people did? Sickening, just plain disgusting. Well-known for horrible crimes yes, iconic no.

I don't know if I'd call Charles Manson an 'iconic' figure, but good luck to you, Ryan!

Mark Mirano – CHECK YOUR FACTS. "True Blood" is on HBO, not Showtime.

I think he has the range to pull it off... his new movie Red Hill is getting great reviews. I'm excited for it. Plus his other movie Knights of Badassdom... the dude is comic gold. He's the only reason I watch True Blood. If Jason Stackhouse had his own show then I'd never have to watch any other tv shows ever again... lies. I'd still watch Big Bang Theory.

Wow..well first, True Blood isn't on Showtime its on HBO. That's too wierd that Ryan is playing CM. He's Austrian ..not that he can't research CM but I can't seem him playing that kind of part. If he can pull it off more power to him. I just hate that murderer gets to have a movie about him! Everyone knows what he did. Let's not make it glamed up by Hollywood. Let's keep it on the History Channel if we want to relive it.

If you are going to correct a story, I'd make sure your post is, indeed, correct. Ryan Kwanten is Australian, not Austrian.
