'Sister Wives' finale draws big audience

The show “Sister Wives” is all about the numbers, especially when it comes to the ratings.

The hit TLC freshman reality show drew about 2.7 million viewers for its series finale, according to the network. “Sister Wives” follows the lives of polygamist Kody Brown and his four wives.

Brown, who is legally only married to his first wife, is currently being investigated in his home state of Utah for felony bigamy.

All I know... if a woman was "married" to 4 husbands.... I don't think she would get the same support or understanding that some people in society show a polygamist man... Whether I believe this lifestyle or not (I don't)- I am still waiting for the day where men and women have equal rights in our society and when women are not held to a double standard. I thought the show interesting... but no way could I personally live like that!

What is wrong with seeking religion, or the light, or the fact that in your gut you know this isn't right. There is no way to fight our way out of deviancy and lies when we are all guilty of something. The sky is the limit. No one can say anything about anything because we've all done bad things? Where does that leave us, and those who come after us. It leaves us with our mouths shut - don't judge. There is a difference between judging and bringing something which is wrong into the light. There is a difference between a man exclaiming love should be multiplied, not divided, and recognizing that this same man is distorting the true meaning of love. As someone far wiser than I said, it's good to have an open mind, but not so much that your brains fall out.

WOW everyone seems to know about religion. Or God and what he knows and says! But doesn't it say do not JUDGE? MOST of these comments are judging others. If you do not like what others are doing or have comments then either look away, don't watch them, and mind your own! 99% of the people that judge have their own problems. Maybe we all need to step back and take a look at our own lives. Besides we drink we swear we let our children run all over town and have no control over them, and lord only knows what else. So Step back and look around you. There are way worse things in the world them 4 women choosing one man. I may not agree with it, but stop judging people, that is one of the NATIONS weaknesses. THINK ABOUT IT!!!

Let's call things by their real names. There is one wife and three mistresses, who find it more comfortable to identify themselves in public as Sisters because people don't understand and it's awkward. What's awkward since it works for them. How about, Hello, I'm Meri Brown, Kody's wife, and these two ladies are mistresses of my husband, and this third young lady is another mistress of my husband. We're here to see her try on wedding dresses as she and my husband are getting married, but not really married. Their discomfort level escalates at the hospital during childbirth as Meri's husband could get arrested if authorities knew what was going on. Kody found his niche in the advertising industry. I wonder if he wrote his intro line: Love should be multiplied, not divided. Might I suggest Mrs. Brown enroll in a remedial math class.

Why is this wrong? What about all the guys out there who "brag" about there "baby mamas" and never lift one finger to support these children. If people can sleep oround and have lots of children for society to raise.....then I guess if the woman go along with this and don't mind shareing this guy then why not....and he is only legaly married to one....so I guess it really is not bigamy....so every guy who has ever had a girlfriend or mistress on the side and had children with her sould also be arrested.....

Hilarious . . . .I never though of that . . .poor guys of the world . .. . I hope this doesn't become a trend for their sake . . .or maybe I do because they would have to compete a lot harder to win the women that aren't married.

  10. Statistics

Interesting statistical or rather biological thought, so consider the fact that birth rates internationally and historically have stayed fairly close to a 1:1 boy to girl ratio, meaning almost ½ of our population is men and the other ½ women. Well then, even if the majority of people believed that a man should have four wives then I presume the results would be that the remaining 75% of our male populations would either need to be gay or single because there would be no more women 🙂

Don't be too hard on SS. I noticed that they change the Sister Wives seating order along and along, and it could possibly be that Sister Wife 1 weighs 180 and Wife 2 weighs 210, or Sister Wife 3 weighs 180 and 2 weighs 165. Robyn we know for sure is the most svelte of the four, and she knows it too as she flounced around trying on her wedding dress. I agree, it's true that carrying and giving birth to five or six children does take a toll on the figure, but my money is on she does not bounce back, ever. Kody in bathing suit has a little Dunlop action going on: It's done lopped over the waistband. Maybe in the future, television producers can combine a show called something like Sister Wives/Big Losers, showing the Sister Wives frantically trying to shed pounds for Kody, with Robyn sabotaging them. They all fail, then Kody scopes out and finds another skinny "Sister Wife."

My last message on here- seriously, too much of my life gone on this as it is. But I watched this with a friend while visiting- she had DVRed it. I wanted to see what I could also find out for my friend (she has no internet) because I had no doubt they would be investigated and she was curious. I spent time doing some research seeing what I could find out for her.

In all of what I saw on the show, read, and further interviews that are various places online, the order of the 'wives' has never changed, nor the number of the years they were 'married'. So no, that isn't the case.

Meri (3rd from the left)- 1st wife, married (legally) 20 years

Janelle (1st from left)- 2nd 'wife', 'married' 17 years

Christine (2nd from left)- 3rd 'wife', 'married' 16 years- is expecting in pic above, delivered during taping of the show

Robyn (far right)- 4th 'wife', were 'married' during last taping/showing of show

During one episode they made a point of stating over, and over, and over again how many years and what order they were all 'married' because it was Meri and his 20th anniversary and they were all reminiscing.

Ya, way too much of my life on this. Sadly no one has anything to say about the poignant remarks I had 2 comments ago, it's who's 'fatter' and whether he wanted to 'bang that'.

      How profound.

      See ya.

"Steven Seagal", if you read more closely, then you would know that you have the 'wives' in the wrong order. Wife #1 is in the red- 3rd woman from the left, 'wife' #2 is first from the left, 'wife' #3 (who is very pregnant, not fat) is 2nd from the left, and 'wife' #4 is 4th from the left. So you 'theory' doesn't hold much water there. Plus 'wife' #2 has had at least 5 kids with him, and sorry, no one bounces back easily, PLUS some people are just made that way because of genetics!

You're comments are just caustic and cruel and have nothing to do with the actuality of events or the show, just your crude 'observations' that came from ignorance.

Man, half of these wives are heifers. I'd want to marry someone else if my wives were that fat. If you look from left to right you can see the apparent order they were chosen in. #1 has to weigh 210 lbs, #2 180, #3 165, and #4 120. He looks like an uglier version of Keith Urban.

Steven, if you love someone, you love them. When my husband got cancer and had chemo and radiation he looked absolutely horrible. I did not love him any less. True love will carry you through the good and the bad, the thin and the fat. Being well and being sick. If someone you love loses a limb, do you love them less? You should not in my opinion. Sometimes you need to look at the heart and not the shell.

I think you got the weight order wrong.#1 is the lightest after #4 of course then #3 an she just had a baby and #2 is just really big. However I do agree with GA peach when you truely love someone it shouldn't matter what they look like. It is there heart and personality that get you though the day.

What I have to think about is what they are promoting and what is happening with their sons- the children can't all be girls. There isn't a 4:1 ratio of women to men in this country- nor in their state- nor in the city. It was ironic that Kody thought of Meri discussing how he would feel if she would have a second (well, they were discussing his fourth 'marriage' to be) husband as "repulsive thoughts", but for him, well, that's just OK, righty-o.

Also, if they are not breaking the law with 'legal' ceremonies, why are the women (past #1) changing their last name to 'Brown'? Once you change it and walk around saying (even amongst friends or with the children)you are 'married' or 'husband and wife'- it is. That's called 'common law' marriage. While many states do not have it on their books, it is part of the laws of this country.

Say they are not promoting this and I have no reason to question their intentions on that issue, but it's out there... However... What about the boys? Think about it, and from what they have all agreed to allow and not allow on the show, who knows if the 'real' talks and issues are coming out? What do they think will happen to their own sons (I know Meri only has 1 girl) if these 'multiple families' where only men get the 'multiples' were to be the more common practice?

I hate to say it, but it's like any other 'sect', they are only looking at how it benefits them directly and not long term effects. Not on them, their children, their community, just what their, (more likely Kody's) needs and wants are.

Wife #4 would never have come in if he (don't name your kid a word, too many puns will happen, (: sorry) truly loved his original wife, and #2, and so on. He's just gratifying his need for some 'variety' and they are forced to live with it now. Well, Meri- your daughter's almost grown, I say when she's done with HS- GO. Find YOUR life.

, where on the clip it showed Robyn telling a wife it wasn't her business, and Kody said he had a bomb shell. What was it? I don't like Robyn, I feel she is there for 15 minn of fame, and is self centered I had read her first husband is upset she has the children on the show. I wonder if he is able to see his kids, or talk to them. I hope Sister wives come back for season 2, and Kody and Robyn break up

The reality is that the laws change. Polygamy laws need to change too, just as adultery, gay, sodomy etc. did. The government made a mistake from the start by regulating marriage. Nobody like to have the government tell them how to behave in their bedroom or how to raise their kids. Monogamous marriages ar usualy more discusting. Proof is the divorce rate and the number of children affected by it. I could not count how many things in sociely discust me, but I have to let people make their own choices and it does not have to make sense to me. This is what it takes to have freedom, otherwise it is not freedom and we should stop pretending it is. My freedom is restricted by my feelings and beliefs, but I have no right to impose them on others. So, let them live their lives how they choose, stop hating and look at making your life better. (As a disclamer: I am a Christian, not polygamist)

I really find the show interesting. I love learning about other cultures and beliefs. I am not sure if Robyn is truly there for the “whole family” experience as stated or if she is really there mainly for Kody. I find it is disappointing how much time Kody focuses on Robyn especially picking out the wedding dress and running home to meet with Robyn when Christine was in labor. I wonder how these relationships will work out after adding Robyn especially if she continues to ask Kody to keep things from the other wives (dress situation).

Has anyone else noticed how wife number 1 seems to be on an emotional rollercoaster: Excited about inviting Robyn into their "family" one minute, then cautiously confessing to Kody her jealousy? And all the wives have expressed a need for a large family. Meri commenting over and over about wanting a large family, but she couldn't have one, so she just went about it a different way. No kidding. The whole thing is weird to me. It was sad to see Robyn correcting her child to call Kody Dad, not Kody, while they were looking at pictures. I hope their real father has not given up on them. I notice Robyn instructed her daughter to call Meri Mother Meri. I guess families are made up of fungible parts, like doll arms and legs that can be pulled off and replaced. So sad.

I have watched a few episodes and tried to watch last night and all I could think is...I don't get it. I can see why a man would want four wives...but why would a woman want to share one husband between 3 other woman. It is so obvious that the other three did not want to bring this 4th one in, especially the "real" wife. Last night watching the "wedding" episode I couldn't help but to think...this is so wrong. I really try to be an open minded person but even I can't except this. I think the reason why they didn't show the ceremony was because they know it is illegal. And to those who said it shouldn't matter cause it wasn't a religious ceremony...well if that is the case why did "wife" number 4 call it a religious ceremony. The whole thing just baffles my mind. The only good thing that is coming out of this is the fact that some of the children have already said they only want one spouse.

Legally he is only married to the first wife, the other three "marriages" were ceremonial only so they are not recognized as a legal marriages. Now if the state wants to investigate that wives 2,3 & 4 are supposedly collecting welfare that I can understand.

I never watched an episode, the trailers were enough. It's this kind of crap that makes men in Utah think they can force 13 year old girls to marry 50 year old men and use God as the excuse to do it. Four of the dumbest women on the planet. I'd hate to think the best I could do was get in line behind three other women for that. Their self esteem must be in the toilet. What truly sickens me about the whole deal is the effect on the children. I know as one of these women's daughters, I would have a hard time finding any respect for my mother.

So many armchair theologians! First, plural marriage is practiced by a fourth of the world's population, and, therefore is quite acceptable and traditional in some cultures. Second, as a traditional Jewish man, Jesus was probably married. Since there were Jews still practicing plural marriage during the time Christ walked the earth, Jesus himself may have had more than one wife. Third, so many people interpret the Bible differently, so trying to prove what is correct practice or what is not correct practice with an appeal to the Bible is futile. Most lay people really don't know the ins and outs of Biblical history or Jewish and Christian doctrines anyway. Last, instead of passing a judgment, it is wisdom to state what is best for yourself and why. No one can argue with what you think is best for you!

Why do people insist on saying that Christ was married when there's no scriptual basis for it at all? None of the ancient writings about Him say any such thing. Plus, Christ never promoted polygamy. If you are a Christian, you are to follow what Christ taught, not what the world teaches or what ancient Jews believed.

Nowhere in scripture is it mentioned that Jesus relieved himself. He must have been SO holy as to never have to use the bathroom.

Also nowhere in scripture is an account of 18 years of Jesus' life. 18 years is a long time. Time enough to get married, have kids, have your wife die of plague. Time enough for a lot of things.

Are you serious? That's not a good rebuttal in any way, shape or form. If He was married, they obviously would've mentioned such an important event. Common sense, you know? But such an occurrence isn't mentioned in scripture at all, even in the non-canonical writings. NOT ONE MENTION.
As for the 'missing years', the Gospels make it clear that Christ was living with His parents, working as a carpenter alongside His earthly father, preparing for His coming Ministry.
Maybe you should put down the Da Vinci Code. I don't understand why it's so important to some people to believe that Christ was married and had a bunch of kids. Nevermind the disrespectful people who believe He was immoral and fornicating all over the place.

      "Don't change God's words..."

So incest is cool because Lot's daughters got their father drunk and slept with him. God doesn't do a thing. Abraham has a wife AND a mistress and that's okay with God as well.

I guess I could go David's route and bring the father of the woman I wanted to marry 100 foreskins. That might be an idea. Better make it 200.

I love how you quote Genesis 2:24. "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. " At this point in the Bible's version of history there's only Adam and Eve. How are they supposed to leave their father and mother?

Matthew 19:9 is even worse. Moreso because of the way in which it can be interpreted. "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery."

"... except it be for fornication ..." Wait... what?

Here's one for you, Selena. Matthew 7:1. "Judge not, lest ye be judged."

    • Truth Hurts

Selena is not judging you - but God is. You can criticize the Bible all you want but it is still there to show you your own error. BTW, that goes for me, Selena, you and everyone else. The story of Lot's daughters, and Lot's whole life, is a lesson of divided loyalties. Those things would not have happened if Lot had cared more about being righteous than friends with the residents of Sodom. And if you think David was bad, you should study ALL the kings from that period. At least David, when he made a mistake, was held accountable.

I think this life style is sick. Its sick in Gods eyes. They did not show them getting married because of the legal reasons and them all facing jail for one thing. Also it is in the KJV Bible Gods holy word that you are to marry one man one woman. If you have more than one wife it is Adultery. Matthew 19:9 also read Genesis 2:24. Gods ideal plan for marriage is one man for one woman for one lifetime.( Unless adultery . I think if these women and any other woman finding it to hard to take care of a home and kids and your husband then ummm...... DO NOT GET MARRIED!!!! I feel sorry for these kids if these parents are put in jail

This situation brings "Greed" and "Lust" to a new level on the part of the man. What's really sad is, these women don't seem to value themselves enough to know that, each of them deserve 100% of (1) man for themselves. You could see that these 4 women were clearly upset and jealous of each other but, are so determined to all get in line for the affection of their 1 husband, their blinded. What man in the U.S., has time for 4 so called 'wives' and 16 children. I wouldn't want my adult daughter to ever think she could never be enough for one man. I have watched all the episodes'; I still don't understand it; I really wish they would have shown the wedding ceremony~~Maybe it would've given some insight into their beliefs~~~It would be nice to have free childcare so you could work, and have a career and family.

To each his Own~~~I hope the series returns, I enjoyed seeing how polygamists live.

I can't believe that some women on here seem to think this is ok. If you find housework, kids and working too much for you, poor dears,,(not able to do two things at the same time,,ie work and have a family, domestically challenged I call them),,don't get married or have kids. First comes polygamy, then come the burqa's. I hope you are all being fitted for your burqa's now to avoid the rush. Man some women are so lazy they are read to give up all their rights and freedoms. Disgraceful.

And I'd like to add that if any husband of mine could take another wife, I should have the right to take another husband. Can you imagine, the enormous families that would create? Could we marry someone who is already married? Could I marry a man who is already married to four other women and I'm married to four other men???

Every religion & every denomination hasits own variances on the correct interpretation of the Bible. While I don't agree with their interpretation, their way of living or their faith,I do not have the right to tell them how to live. They are not abusing or neglecting their kids. They are not trying to have their "spiritual marriages" recognized by the courts. From what I've been able to gather, they're not abusing the welfare system. And they are not trying to force their way of life on anybody else.So who are we to judge?People need to tend to their own instead of passing judgement upon others. This does remind me of the saying"It takes a village to raise a child."While I don't condone or agree with their way of life,I am heartened,in an odd way, to see that these children have at least 5 adults parenting them that they can turn to in any situation. There are too many children who have nobody.

Honestly, I find this life very interesting. Not judging, but in the bible it does state that you are married to one person in the eyes of God and that once you have relations outside of that union under God it is adultery even if divorced and weather you agree or not in the United states you can practice any religion but you can only have one spouse at a time. I am interested to know who the government considers his true wife. Also it is natural for a woman to have jealousy when sharing there man so even if they want to admit it or not it bothers them which shower little on the episodes. But God loves everyone. God Bless!

I think the law is pretty clear. If you get married, you stay married until legally divorced. Probably why first wives, or whatever they call them, have the precedence. These polygamists have one wife and anything outside of that relationship is adultery. Even if you tried to legally marry a second time while still married, then you would be breaking the law - this is called bigamy.

Marta, you must really hate yourself. A man tells you that if you really love him, he should be able to sleep with someone else (but you of course cannot). If he really loves you, he wouldn't even think to do such a thing.

I loved this show.. hope it comes back for a season 2. I was envious of the working moms having the one wife who stays home and does the cooking, laundry, cleaning and watches the kids of the other wives while they are at work. If it works for them (and many other families in this country) who are we to judge? He is only legally married to one of them – so I can't see why they are under investigation – since they don't appear to be breaking any laws. Their kids are taken care of, they are working and not living off the tax payers... I say leave them be... And where do I sign up... I could use 3 other women around the house helping out financially and share the household chores... I'm not quite sure how they handle the bedroom arrangements – I think they said they have a schedule of what night he's with whom.. That doesn't sound so bad either.. if you're not in the mood... he can just go knock on one of the other wives door.

That's exactly how I felt when I watched the show – envious! Help with housework, cooking, children, and the other thing – that's not a bad deal for the wives. They're not hurting anyone and all seem to be happy with the arrangement.

Why would any man want 4 wives? He'd never leave the house bc they'd never all get finished griping at him.

No judging here. I am just wondering how they make it work. As humans we are territorial. I can't imagine sharing my husband with other wives. I wonder if they are really fine with it when they know their husband is sleeping with other women and even dating. I honestly believe it should be between 2 people. That's just me. I couldn't do it.

These are all consenting adults. They are paying their own way in life and their children are clearly loved, nurtured, and cared for. I just don't understand why we can't just live and let live.

I don't think they do pay their own way. Usually the all the "wives" except for the first collect welfare because they aren't legally married and can apply for aid. So we actually pay for their way of life.

If they want this lifestyle, fine. But don't ask me the taxpayer, who in this time is trying to save her own lifestyle to help. DO IT ALL ON YOUR OWN. NO welfare or assistance from state or federal agencies.

i watched the episode the other day where the 4th 'wife' was trying on wedding dresses and excitedly going around saying "i'm getting married!". every time she said it I thought "no you're not! he's already married and simply wanting his cake and eating too (or should I say, four)!". if he wants to pretend that he's married to four women, that's his perogative but all he's doing is cheating on his actual wife with her consent!

How do you know this Nancy, are you God? No, so why are you judging? It's not what I would do and clearly not what you would do, but get off your high horse and stop judging. According to the bible..eating pork is an abomination listed with all the rest of the abominations you probably like to quote, but you conveniently make excuses for that passing by.... bet you had some bacon recently!!! Be careful, there's only one God...stop trying to take his place and speak for him (a sin itself)!

Oh, please. Don't start with the whole PC 'thou shall not judge' rabble when it comes to this. We should have discernment, but we can't tell people if they're damned or not. Christ didn't promote polygamy. As for the Old Testament: God didn't sanction everything people did back then. David was a sinner, too.
I'm not saying that God hates them or anything like that. God doesn't hate His children. But this doesn't seem to me to be the best arrangement.

All I know, if this man were African- American, and his name were Cedric Brown, the cops, attorney general from every state, along with about 4 supreme court justices would've had this guy locked up in 2 days, with a 30 minute trial – and the wives? Prison time – and the kids? Foster care/wards of the state.
The same rules which apply to whites, do not, and never will apply to blacks – It's 'calm' for whites, until a black person does the same thing, they would call him a 'pimp' – America tolerates this behavior and does not prosecute white people for such antics and polygamy lifestyles – White people are never at risk when they know a white jury will vendicate them all... A sad truth that this lifestyle is justified – with all 3 wives being jealous of Robyn – she's prettier and much thinner than the others – Oh yeah, she's about to be #1 – she's fresh and new to Cody – The other women look like her mother...
Robyn will get every 2nd and 4th night – Cody will be tiptoeing in the dark to Robyn and cheating on his other wives with her – watch.
These women look like fools and to think God justifies a man sleeping with 4 women and calling it marriage-
shaking my head in wonder and they should be ashamed – he's playing every one of them as fools.
The first wife Meri – always has a scorn look on her face – a sad look – she had no idea what she'd signed up for and I know she wants out – Cody gets all the milk he wants and all the mouths he can feed... wowwww. Meri, is it worth it? American viewers especially the women see your sadness honey – we feel it, even when you try to hide it – you wear it – not so well... Be real, tell Cody how you really feel...
Tell your sisterwives to get in shape a little... Cody will favor Robyn over the first three, every time. watch.
Godspeed to you all... (shaking my head) –

I am in a real polygamous relationship, and interestingly enough, we are just adding a 4th now, as this series has been on. We are not fundamentalist Mormons, it just works for us, but we are definitely people of faith. I have started blogging about it – if anyone wants to see more about what a real polygamous family looks like, check out http://www.polygrrl.com
