Website: Advertisers, stop using 'Hey Soul Sister'Not everyone is on board with having Train's "Hey Soul Sister" featured in commercials. A new site is urging ad agencies to halt their use of the music group's hit. "We're tired of hearing 'Hey Soul Sister' by Train in what seems like every other television ad. It's time to put a stop to it," Brad Meyers and Keith Stoeckeler write on their site, Stop Advertising From Pulling a Train. Meyers and Stoeckler, who are not friends, but met when Stoeckeler tweeted about his hatred of the song and Meyers responded, urge site visitors to submit videos or notices of where they have heard or seen the song used.
Among the spots featuring Train's track: Samsung 3D TVs, the new Katherine Heigl/Josh Duhamel flick "Life As We Know It" and a breast cancer PSA. The song has also been used as a soundtrack in countless TV series and soaps. In fact, shortly after lead singer Pat Monahan performed "Hey Soul Sister" on "CSI: New York" earlier this year, it shot to No. 1 on iTunes. "With your help," Meyers and Stoeckler write, "we can put an end to this epidemic." |

Thanks for writing about this. There's a heap of solid tech info on the internet. You've got a lot of that info here on your site. I'm impressed I try to keep a couple blogs pretty on-going, but it's a struggle sometimes. You've done a great job with this one. How do you do it?
I'm glad that I've found this marquee.blogs.cnn.com website.
Big thanks for taking the time to discuss this, it's a useful information and I like learning more on this. If possible, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.
Get a life, everyone loves the song, and Train seems to be okay with it, so why can't everyone else be?
Hawaii 5-0 epi "Ko'olauloa". Cute kid in tent city plays ukelele and sings Soul Sister. It's a sad thing to do to an innocent child. Child was super cute though.
I think Meyers and Stoeckeler made the website with a very clear tongue in cheek tone. It's a shame that their joke seems to be going over everyone's head. I mean, they use the word "epidemic." Clearly, they are branding a website around the same kind of intellectual sarcasm that I fondly remember propagating in high school.
i didn't particularly enjoy this song when I heard it, to say the least. It's why Chicken Fried should be listened to more often. IMO Zac Brown Band is better than Train (let the trolling begin :P)
It was an ok song until radio drove it into the ground. I avoid one radio station because they basically run this song 24 hrs!
I love the song and I love it wherever I hear it. I personally think if someone doesn't like hearing it, perhaps you can hit the mute button or change the channel. There is so much crap going on in this world and somebody wants to protest a song being played too much? Really?
Never heard the song...because I never watch tv?
I like the song, but if you don't like it, wait 2 weeks to a month and it will be replaced by something else that will get overplayed. Or, you can just get a DVR like the rest of us and skip ads altogether.
Sounds like these two losers have too much time on their hands. Who cares if they don't like it? I would wager that the majority of the people DO like it, which is why it is being used. I don't like Lady GaGa, but I'm not going to start a website or write an article about it. Geez.
my darling 6 yr old grandson who has issues with speech and some autistic tendencies, loves to sing that song. So I personally think it is great and apparently so does he!
>Idrinkyourmilkshake
>Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public – P.T. Barnum
It actually was H.L. Mencken not Barnum.
Especially when they're not using a REAL SOUL SISTA....OKKKK!!!!!!
it's sad because it a good song when good songs are few in numbers.
songs now are more like rap lyrics with sampled hooks. no originality and they - to me are all starting to sound irritating and the same.
I'm with these guys. I freaking hate this song. And the lead singer, nauseating! (probably didn't spell that right, my work computer doesn't have a spell checker in the browser, deal with it)
Get a CD player or MP3 player and then YOU can choose what you WANT to listen to. Problem solved. The end.
Hey it is a good song GET OVER IT! There are so many things and stories I am so sick and tired of hearing about. A good song out there everywhere for people to enjoy is NOT one of them....
Could we have not found a more interesting topic to discuss???
Do you suppose that Meyers and Stoeckeler were the primary complainers of the compostable (but loud) Sun Chips bags? I mean, if Train bothers them that much, it stands to reason. Just my 2 cents.
My kids and I love this song and sing along to it everytime we hear it. My youngest asks for it to be replayed all the time. I love to see them get excited when they recognize a song on a commercial or TV show. These 2 need to get a life! Stop picking on good music!
I HATE THAT STUPID SONG!!
I can't stand this band. But I hate the song even more.
Hey soul sister, ain't that mister mister, on the radio, stereo, the way you move ain't fair you know...
How is this even news? 2 people out of a billion tweeting they dont like a song?
get a life criously..or beta still record a hit song
Love Train...loooon glivvvveeee TRAIN!!
The song is very cool. These guys need to find something better to do...
I hear the comment, "I hate that song!" all the time.........from my children! How old are these guys?
I love the song! Upbeat! What's wrong w/upbeat nowadays?? We all need it!
You guys should get a life AND a real cause! Train is an amazing band and a very nice group of guys that have worked extremely hard for their success. Hey Soul Sister is only one of their many great songs. It is 'feel good' and people like it, that's a good thing!. Better than most of the negative garbage music out today. Perhaps it is commercialized a little more than you would like, that's too bad – maybe that means you watch too much TV. I suggest you listen to some of their other songs and you will see why they are loved by their fans!
Oh, FFS. It's a SONG!!! And, a pretty catchy tune at that. And, FWIW? Not going to buy or not buy based on a song.
My favorite thing is when people chide the indulgence of television from a platform of indignation. So ya kind of suck there, yuns. I have a four year old, and I also have only to promise you that I get about 1 hr/day of television while I fall asleep, and yes I noticed it and commented to my wife who then sent me this link. It seems to notice such things you might also just need to be aware of the world around you . . . not only of yourself.
Is this really where we're at anymore? People REALLY feel its cool to protest the use of a song in an ad simple because they don't care for it? This makes a mockery out of every good cause that's ever been protested or fought for. Civil Rights, Women's rights, NO... we want to protest the use of a song we think is annoying... GIVE ME A BREAK!
test.
I still like the song. I don't see enough advertisers to have it bother me.
stupid reason to complain; stupid song too. ' Ain't that Mr. Mister on the radio?'
stupid cheesy lyrics.
I like *that* Train song but it's becoming severely overplayed, just like all the *other* Train songs ("Drops of Jupiter", "Meet Virginia", and "Calling All Angels").
Of course, I only really like it because when I visited Dublin a few months ago, our cab driver, when hit with an awkward pause in the conversation (because we didn't understand his brogue), sang to the radio "HEEEYYY SOULLLL SISTAAAAR!" It has since become an inside joke.
All the Music comming out these days SUCKS lets go back to good bands like Rush, Beatles, and Pink Floyd, bands that actually earned their fame =)
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, TRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! One of the most uplifting bands of all times. Always GREAT lyrics!!!!! I have been a fan for a good 11 years.
I agree, they are the best!
I want to hear this song again right now!!!
you are all fartknockers pooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot
I liked the song the first time I heard it on the radio...and still liked it when I heard it on the same radio station 20 minutes later. Now, however, I hate the damn thing. I loath it.
Radio killed the music!
I love the song. In fact every commercial should play it. I am a sista and I love soul ! So I guess that makes me a- soul sista huh ? All those who hate the song I am sorry but the song is just too sweet. What I mean is STOP HATING !!!! It is not easy to come up with a hit song. That song is amazing. I... love..it (Sniff..sniff...sob...sob).
omg !!! im so glad im not the only one who is super annoyed by that song.. over played and really not even that great .
omg !!! im so glad im not the only one who is super annoyed by that song.. over playued and really not even that great .
omg !!! im so glad im not the pnly one who is super annoyed by that song.. over playued and really not even that great .
Music is completely subjective. This is like arguing that art is good or bad...completely pointless and has no right or wrong. Stop wasting time arguing this moot point!
bunch of crybabies. id like to play this song while i kick the crap out of them. i cant wait for the alvin and the chipmunks version
go get the new album by train!
There are other things in this world to complain about......these cats need to get a life !!! Song rocks BTW !!!
I watch a pretty good deal of TV and I have to say I haven't noticed the song...at all.
Ain't that Mister Mister?
It's the song of the year, it will win all the major awards. Get over it dudes. Go write your own song.
I could not agree more with this article. I used to have to hear this song every time I went to the movie theater during the stupid pre-show with Bradford Howe. Could not be more sick of this song. Perhaps Ad execs should be more creative!
yep, now that song is in my head.
These losers should forget about the damn song and try to get a life
Why is this news? This isn't even on the radar entertainment industry-wise.
haters haters haters.... it's a f'ing song. if you're going to spend your time protesting the use of a song you should probably find a hobby, or jump off a skyscrapper. whatever fits your fancy.
hey keith and brad or whatever the hell your names are, I bet that if it were lady gaga, youd guys be all ecstatic over it. leave the song alone. admit it, YOU BOTH, cant get the song out of your heads (or otherwise)!!!!!!!!!!!
No worse than last year when the advertisers and networks camped on the Black Eyed Peas 'I got a feeling'.
Bleeeeech to both!
Is this song really that overused on TV? I never listen to the radio, but I watch a fair amount of TV, and I had to Google the song. I'd never heard it before – not once.
Offensive is anything from K.C. & the Sunshine Band, Air Supply, to name a few..these should be banned from the airwaves.
I don't hate the song but they did sell it out to too many people who all played their ads and shows at once. Maybe a time delay between the different ads, as in months? I'm glad Kesha's damn Tik Tok song is starting to fade – that needs to be blasted from the annals of music history. Now it looks like Perry's Teenage Dream is the one to drive people nuts..
Whoever has enough time on their hands to devote to making a website about trying to get a song to not be used in commercials, needs to reevaluate their priorities. Who cares? If you don't want to hear that song, change the channel when that commercial comes on.
Hey, anything's better than "Drops of Jupiter".
What we need is a public blacklist on numerous songs. Where were these grassroots campaigns when "All-Star", "Who Let the Dogs Out" and "Pokerface" dominated advertising and movie soundtracks?
Wow... Honestly did u think this up to have a article on CNN? What the heck losers. TRAIN IS ONE OF THE BEST REALEST BANDS OUT THERE and if they sucked they wouldn't have a hit that is all over now would they??? Samsung prodcuts?? And I'm sure u what have a bunch of ACer products in ur home ha ha ha eat dirt jerks!! Find something else to do with ur time!! Peace the eff out!
The group "Train" doesn't want their song to stop, why would they? (I wouldn't) I'm sure they receive residuals every time that song is played on the air. $$$$$
duh... 🙂
Jason Mraz hasn't sued Train for plagiarism yet? It's such a blatant ripoff of "I'm Yours" and so far removed from Train's genre, that it's obvious Pat Moynahan heard it subliminally and changed his entire style of singing to mimic the original.
i personally dont like the guys voice from that band. and i havnt heard it on any commercial or show but i havnt owned a tv in 10 years. i think its easier just to change the channel or turn off the set than to sit and complain about how much it comes on. i was in bed for a few days sick and cant remember hearing it when i had a tv in frnt of me the whole time
You haven't owned a TV in 10 years...were all soooooooo impressed. Really, you don't sound like a completely prentious twit when you say that. Honestly.
Two low level ad guys running this campaign, why I am not surprised? It's people like this, in the advertising industry, who are responsible for all these stupid ad campaigns to begin with.
Would have been a more convincing campaign if they were just regular consumers. This is just a social media experiment and they are getting some press for themselves. I hope their employers are amused as I am assuming they are doing this on their work time. Oh, wait... advertising agency's are deathly slow now, aren't they?
I hate the song but I'm glad to see Train having some success.
I like the song and do not believe it is over used. However, I do not pay that much attention to what they are advertising. The song is cool, and if you know EVERY COMMERCIAL it is used on, I would suggest you get a life.
I liked the song to begin with, and would still like it if all the ads hadn't made me so sick of it. I think it's sad that commercialism can ruin one's enjoyment of music.
Can I report Train to CNN for eardrum abuse?
As long as it's not Train's newest song I'm OK. That gawdaweful piece of crap makes my ears bleed. "I'm not in it to win it..." GARBAGE. Whoever produced that album really should have told these no talent wannabees that that song was simply horrible. How it ever got on the airwaves is beyond me. It's just plain TERRIBLE.
I love this band and this song you mention. They are good guys, talented and have a great energy. Their concerts are amazing. I get that they are not your cup of tea, but lots of us really appreciate them!
And candy man song sung by sammy davis was really cute and he could dance too!
just ignore the song if you here it in every commercial you watch!!
Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. Depends on the mood that I am in. And jazz is great!
OMG! I just said this to my husband last night. I am soooooooooooooooooooo tied of this song!
I'd rather hear Hey Soul Sister than GaGa's poker face....
apparently no one knows what 'pulling a train' means
They should complain about lady gaga's songs instead. That 'Alejandro' song is so freaking annoying. She has no talent whatsoever.
Really???? Are people in this country so bored that they resort to calling others to hate a SONG?!! There is a mute button on your TV remote, better yet, there are other channels. So stop trying to create negative sentiments and leave it to the politicians. And CNN, stop promoting such crap.
I used to like this tune but it was overplayed and lost all it's liking...totally annoying now everytime I hear it.
I hate this song with a passion. If it were possible to waterboard a song, this song deserves it.
These 2 guys need to get a life...seriously who cares?
I bet THe band doesnt mind, They or the composer of the song gets paid EVERYTIME its played for a commercial. Not a bad gig if you can get it
The only thing that sucks more than this song are Train themselves.
I hate that stupid song too. Goofy. I even heard it in a refrigerator commercial.
not a musical bone in your body I suppose
Does the lyric "Ain't that Mister Mister..." exist only to complete the rhyme with "Hey soul sister..." or is it the other way around? What an inane piece of alleged song craft. Rhymes haven't come this cheap since "Me and you and a dog named Boo" or the classic Sir Elton lyric, "and Jesus, he wants to go to Venus."
And don't even get me started on the idea that this chanteuse is "so gangsta" and his paramour "so thug."
The guy whining about the song probably doesn't play an instrument, hates puppies, abhors children, has a crap job he hates and thinks everyone else is less intelligent than him. The song sucks live because the lead singer can hit the high notes anymore, but it is a very catch song. Don't be jealous. You want a tissue? Crybaby.
Does anyone listen to John Coltrane or Ornette Coleman???? Just once I would like to hear "A Love Supreme" or "New York is Now" in a commercial!!! America needs to rediscover a lost art form....JAZZ!!!!!
Great! It is a crap song!
What about "I'm yours". It seems to be the background music for every other commercial these days.
God I really hate this song.
What happened to Train anyway? I used to think they were ok, they do an awsome Led Zeplin cover live, but this album is weird. Stringing phrases together to make a song works for Blues Traveler and no idea why they keep making references to crappy 80's bands.
For everyone's information these guys are in the advertising business and that is why they are so sick of this song! They have a real basis for their gripe!
Good lord, it's a great shong. STFU and quit being jealous about someone's success. What a loser.
First of all, the song sucks tremendously, and so does the band. Almost as bad as Dave Matthews.
What a moron you are... you say first of all,, then there's nothing else in your comment.
I don't think people are tired of hearing the song as much as they are tired of hearing a song about a "SOUL SISTER". Come on people, we know what's happening hear. Its that same old elephant in that same old room. When is the last time you heard so much crap about a song being played on tv too much. Really? How much tv are these clowns watching. Trust me, its not the song, its the "Soul Sister" aspect of the song. Get over it. Sisters have soul and sometimes people wanna sing about it.
I first heard this song on an episode of Medium on Oct. 9, 2009 and insistantly loved it!! Of course, these days, I have to say I am hearing it a bit too much. I would like it to go away for a while so when I do hear it again, I can enjoy it without being annoyed that I've heard it soooo much!!!
Kind of dissapointing that this song is featured on so many advertisements!
Lulz to all of those trolling a GOSSIP BLOG telling these guys to get a life.
They say something they thought was wrong in the world and fought to change it. They have more value in their lives than the whole lot of you.
If it had never occurred to you before, saying "Aren't there more important things for you to do?" is the lamest rebuke ever.
Come back to me you're Habitat for Humanity's top volunteer, because I guarantee you 99% of the people parroting that argument haven't done a bit of charity work in their life.
For the record, the song is trash, so is the band. Most of what makes it on the BillBoard Top 40 is.
Wonderful post!
=)
Rick B and Kelly G are the same person! LMFAO!!! And their funniest line was "They say something they thought was wrong in the world".... wow,,, a Train song is what Rick/Kelly consider something wrong with the world. L-O-S-E-R hahahaha
Kelly and I aren't the same person.
Way to repeat the same argument, though. Come back to me when you're debating technique graduates middle school.
Lol Rocco, i have to agree with u on that one. i was thinking the same thing.
Glad to know you're thinking wrong. Duly noted.
Love the song....complainers watch too much TV. Get a life. Train is awesome.
I personally know Pat Monahan and his family, who by the way are awesome, down to earth people, and I loved the song when I first heard it (I found myself tapping my hands on the steering wheel every time it played on the radio) but now, when I turn on the TV it is 'hey-eyy" 'ing its way into an a sound that equivalent to nails on a chalkboard. Much love to Train, but enough with the commercials.
@ that girl
Yeah, right! lmfao
"I personally know Pat Monahan and his family"
This song is terrible. Train is a bunch of no talent losers just poular because brainless idiots push stupid music like this.
Hated that song the moment I first heard it.
Maybe we will get lucky and train will get hit by a real train?
Very funny.... IF you're a six-year-old. But if you're an adult, Dan, then you're immature and dorky.
We can dream....
I hate that song SO much!
Tell 'em, James Taylor! By the way, love your music. 🙂
Since I only watch TV one time per week, I had no idea there was such a stink about a song LOL that's what the MUTE button is for.
Tell 'em, James Taylor! By the way, love your music..:)
I just want to know where all the jingle writers and singers are. Seems only songs are used in commercials anymore. No originality at all.
You obviously don't watch or listen to a lot of commercials then. The jingle writing and singing industry is thriving.
I work at a catering hall where EVERYONE uses both the Train AND Jason Mraz songs (sometimes consecutively) at their weddings.
There's no "changing the channel" for me. No escape.
Exactly. Yet another example to all the haters that a lot of people love Train and Jason Mraz.
That sucks! *hugs*
I like the song. And I mute commercials, anyway.
And while we're at it, let's incinerate Natasha Bedingfield's 'Unwritten'.
It actually only takes an hour to notice the song in all the ads. Train HAS to be sittin' back, laughin' at all the cash comin' in and all other people are doin' is tryin' to stop the song from bein' played. TRAIN: MILLIONS THE ANNOYED: a few
Money ain't everything, honey. It certainly doesn't buy musical talent. Most popular music is crap..the general public wouldn't know good music if it bit them in the butt.
I only heard this song on the radio during my morning drive to work. Had no clue it was on TV too. People have waaaayyy too much free time and no better way to spend it than in front of the TV!
This song needs to die in an AIDS fire, seriously tired of hearing this stupid song.
Did ya know the song is about BJs? it's true...
No worse than last year use of 'I got a feeling' by the Black Eyed Peas.
Catchy but run into the ground.
1. Just because something sells doesn't mean it has any quality. Lady Gaga is popular even though she's a highly talented pianist who dumbed down her music to sell albums.
2. I used to like Train when they actually wrote songs in the early 2000s. Now they're ripping off of Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours."
3. Jason Mraz had one actual original hit ("The Remedy"), and even that got annoying after a while. Wow, you made a whole song out of puns? That's never been done before!
4. At least "The Remedy" had interesting chord structure. This new one is just as unoriginal as that C-Am-F-G progression in the 50s. Today, we have the C-G-Am-F pattern, as heard in the Train and Jason Mraz songs, Blacked Eyed Peas' "Where Is the Love," Goo Goo Dolls' "Stay With You," and even "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey. Someone should be sued.
5. People have a right to listen to whatever they want, but doesn't it make you mad AT ALL that these bands are making MILLIONS of dollars from plagiarizing other musicians? Heck, Linkin Park even plagiarized THEMSELVES and the public still paid for their albums.
If you're going to make tons of money just for making music (something that tons of working stiffs can also do), then at least have the decency to put some effort into your work.
Jealous much? hahahaha
"t least have the decency to put some effort into your work" Uh why? I didn't know effort was a requirement for making music. You make music your way and Train will do it their way. Their way is working. How about yours? Lmao.
It's obvious by your post that you're very anal and annoying.
Great Post J! Your post shows you have an ACTUAL understanding of music, unlike most of the people commenting here!
HTS is obviously and idiot who couldn't think of an actual intelligible response to counter your post. It's funny how the only argument idiots like him (or her) can come up with is ..."jealous".
J, you rock.
Multiple personalities hahahahahah,,,,,,,,,,,, Ladyofthedarkness and J are the same person!!! well keeping praising your own comment if thats what get u through the night. hilarious,., and HTS, i dont think Lady J is jealous,,just think he/she is stupid. :p
Are some of you idiots!
If they were all washed up and running out of gas you wouldn't be complaining about their song being played ALL THE TIME!!!
I love this song. It's catchy and happy. I had never heard it in an advertisement until much LATER. But then I don't watch a lot, if any, TV. In fact, I didn't realise it was anything but a normal release-song until...this article.
And I'll keep listening to it. Just not in ads.
Next, get Rick Astley.
Hey Kristy – thanks for the Nic Nac Paddywack reference – it'll replace 'Candy Man' by Sammy Davis Junior that's been playing in my head all morning, thanks to the workman moving furniture in our office, who's been whistling it (even worse)!
The music is good but the writing is horrible. Who actually includes Mr. Mister in a song? They had what? 2 songs? I guess there's a shortage of bands that rhyme with soul sister.
Thank you! Aparently no one listens to lyrics anymore because the song writing is horrible.
Whew! Thank god world famine, war, the economy and cancer are all solved so these two idiots can whine about a song that's getting played too much. At what point can people start complaining about hearing from these two too much?
I think its funny people are saying to let them have their 15 minutes of fame. Train has been around for over ten years and getting a lot of radio play. I think its safe to say Train is an established, successful act.
"Meyers and Stoeckler, who are not friends, but met when Stoeckeler tweeted about his hatred of the song and Meyers responded"
Awww isn't that cute?? They found love over the hatred of a song 🙂
"Meyers and Stoeckler, who are not friends" In fact, they attack each other with icepicks over blog entries and are both dating the same woman.
"After three months I wrote and complained." LMFAO u are pathetic.
You know what I hate? People who use the term "haters". And no it doesn't take ten hours of watching TV to notice these things. Just watch your local news. The car commercials play the same songs incessantly through the entire broadcast. A couple of years ago Chevy or Ford was driving a remix of Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride" into the ground. After three months I wrote and complained. They kept it up for the next year and a half.
"After three months I wrote and complained." LMFAO u are pathetic..
omg, id love to see that letter u wrote to chevy or ford..that would be hilarious. u are such a dork :p
BeeBee, you DO realize that you made a fool of yourself with that comment, right? Chill dude and enjoy life.
They watch entirely too much tv for this to be the most important thing in their lives. If they have all this time and energy why don't they use it to rally against something that actually matters. Get a life. Seriously.
I'm the real portalpunk. I'm just a sad little troll that thinks he's funny and clever. I still live with my mommy in the basement and self-abuse all day long. I've never had a real girl because I have a tiny little weewee. Please continue to feed my ego but really, I'm so scared that I pee my panites everyday.
I'm glad I'm not alone in my hatred of this song. Seriously, it has the WORST lyrics this side of "MacArthur Park." Every line of it makes me want to smack the singer with a wet fish – it's hard to call which lyric is the absolute most cringe-worthy (although "untrimmed chest" and "Like a virgin, you're Madonna" are candidates). The worst part is that I actually LIKED "Drops of Jupiter" – it's like the band had an IQ reduction between that song and this one.
BeeBee, you DO realize that you made a fool of yourself with that comment, right? Chill dude and enjoy life, ok?
There's a group called Train?
yes, and there's a train called Group.
I was in a Traning Group once; my group went on a train to get there.
LOL @ heather and Bubba 🙂
It doesnt surprise me one bit that the general public loves this song so much. Stupid, ignorant little sheep blindly following anything because it's "popular"....right off a cliff.
wow nunya you're a little angry and hostile, aren't ya? over a song. you should try to relax. and be nice to people.
That song is spending your grandchildren's inheritance! It was born in Kenya! It's a socialist and a communist and a pacifist! (holds up a picture of Train painted like the Joker)
Kevin- Looks like *I* ruffled YOUR feathers. I don't do drugs...so take your chill pill...anally.

Really? Morons getting their 15 minutes because they watch too much TV. Here's an idea, DVR everything and skip through commercials. Don't like the ads? Stop watching TV . Probably overweight slobs anyway.
You have a point..but you need only watch 10 minutes of tv to hear this song twice or three times. I love it how self-righteous non-tv watchers get.
Kelly G, please don't say stupid things like "you need only watch 10 minutes of tv to hear this song twice or three times." It just makes you seem foolish.
Cald- go die in a fire and rid the world of yourself, and take Train with you =P
kelly g is a good example of why they shouldnt let small immature children on the internet,, btw i watched tv for the last hour and saw zero commercials with a train song in them. but keep on saying ridiculous things kelly so we can all continue to laugh at you. thanks! haha
Yet another problem solved by TiVo or a DVR.
WOW!! The human race never ceases to amaze me. I hope I'm reborn as anything but.
I LOVE THE SONG. IT'S A FEEL GOOD SONG. IT'S GREAT!!
It's a feel-good song....we need more of those! Don't be jealous because that song sells. Let's see you write and produce a better song....
Good comment. I would just change your last sentence to "Let's see you write and produce a hit song...." because "better" (or worse) are subjective.
"It's a feel-good song....we need more of those! Don't be jealous because that song sells. Let's see you write and produce a better song...."
Hit the mute button – that's what I do when I hear the 1st few notes...
nah, we only hit the mute button when we hear you.
love the song.... and if you wanna hear an amazingly cute version of it, watch this! 🙂

patricia, i loved that thanx 🙂 heres another great cover i found.

I am a huge Train fan, but even I am sick of hearing this song everywhere. I'm all for using their music in ads, but this one has become a bit too ubiquitous.
While the song is okay, I have been emotionally scarred for life ever since I witnessed Chuck E. Cheese singing about his unshaved chest while at a b-day party at said restaurant. Very disturbing.
Really?!?! why is this an issue? Don' t like the song in the commercial change the channel. There are much bigger issues in the world that need the effort that has gone into this asinine campaign.
'Hey Soul Sister' is just like herpes. It hurts, it's annoying and you hate it, but it keeps coming back!
this is greatttt publicity for Hey Soul Sister! CNN has just guaranteed that the song will get millions of additional listens. Good. It's not easy to make a great, feel-good song like this.
I'm sorry you don't have one of your five senses. Hearing impairment and deafness affect millions of people, and we as citizens of the world should step up and do something about your disability.
Who votes Kelly G the most annoying idiot on the thread? Me!
I think you hit it on the head. It's a feel good song. It's not contemplating the beginning of life, the depths of romance, the tragedy of death....it's a light and fun tune. How much of a curmudgeon must you be to actively spew anger about a song like that?
Just this morning as I was getting ready listening to the morning TV news, the song came on again and again during every ad break. It's absurd how much this song is used and if you ask me, it's hurting the advertisers that use it. Instead of catching my attention with a catchy tune, I think oh crap, not again and change the channel or utterly tune the advert out. Not to mention, it's not branded to any of the product. How am I supposed to know if I'm meant to go out and buy a Samsung product or go see a shoddy Romcom?
Those guys (Meyers and Stoeckler) are tools. Really?? Don't you have anything better to do with your time?? For a band who has been around for over a decade and worked hard – to have success like this is great. Stop hating and turn your tv/radio off if you don't like a song.
It's not the song they are complaining about, it's the over use. The two guys are directing their ire at the advertisers, not the band. As a fan of the band, you might consider that overuse of a song can cause a backlash against the artist. Rather than encouraging more people to listen to Train, people are going to be turned off by the constant use of the same song over and over.
me,
The point is that if a band (Train) basically plagiarizes another musician (Jason Mraz) AND uses a very unoriginal chord structure, AND spends about five minutes writing the lyrics, they aren't "working hard."
You probably think talk radio hosts "work hard" too, even though they only work about 20 hours a week. BTW, their "work" involves sitting in a chair and talking.
Think of all the other musicians out there putting all their time and effort, not to mention money spent on equipment, into making music in their garages. Meanwhile, Train is out there stealing from another music stealer (Mraz), and writing lyrics about Mr. Mister, and they're making millions of dollars because people think it's "fun to sing and dance to."
I wish I had the stomach and lack of dignity to cash in on that.
It's very obvious from all of J's stupid comments that his life is a complete failure. Being anal and raging over a song.... too funnyyyyy. It's always interesting to see people like this who have absolutely nooo idea that they are making complete fools of themselves.
Never heard of the song – don't watch much TV and thanks to the DVR fast-forward through any commercials.
Having said all that, I wonder what these two guys are really after – I mean, come on...with all that is going on in the world today and in the USA alone, they "height" of their community activism is trying to stop advertisers from using a "song"? Oh, brother – no wonder our country is going down the tubes. Activists used to have way, way loftier goals, ideals and points.
Your comment is void because you never heard the song. Hear the horrible singing, the deplorable lyrics, and the screeching music a few times..and you'll see why everyone except the hypnotized, sterilized 'general public' hates it so much.
You've missed the point rather spectacularly, Ms. Kelly G. The argument referenced in the article was not that the song was bad, but that it was overused and overexposed. Ms. Lynn's statement that she had never heard the song is not "void" -btw, I think the word you are looking for is "voidable"- but rather useful and on point, because it suggests that there is indeed room for further exposure of the song. YOUR observation is the irrelevant one, because the song's quality is not at issue. Only its exposure is at issue.
And the video of the band playing on the sidewalk is horribly cliche.
who cares people! Get a life! Everyone has different taste on music! Soon yhis song will not be as popular anymore and a new one will come along and they'll be hating on that one as well.
I'm sure there are more important things going on in this country that require immediate attention. Who really cares what song is used in advertisements. Complain about the important things that aren't getting enought attention.
In the course of one football game I can hear this song at least 7 times. That is not me being a shut-in needing to get a life. That is excessive use in advertising.
You see the that button on your remote labeled "VOLUME"? Be a grown-up and use it. I can't believe that adults are actually wasting time rallying to get a song off of a commercial or two because they're "tired of it" when it would take a half-second to solve the problem altogether.
Advertisers are fairly well-versed in what sells products. They've done their research. They'd play whale noises and cat scratches if it helped them sell something to a consumer. If several commercials are running an ad featuring that song, there's probably a reason. So instead of whining, why don't you employ some big-kid problem solving skills and either: A) Turn the volume down. B) Change the channel. C) Do
Sorry- got cut-off there.
C) Don't buy the product. Or D) Any combination of the aforementioned solutions.
That was much more clever without the mistake... *Sigh*
I'll be impressed if they start using bands like Alter Bridge in ads. I know they used one of their tunes for Celebrity Rehab.
OMG! Please get a life! There has to be SOMETHING more important to complain about than this. You cannot be that pathetic.
I actually like this song – and to their credit, unlike most bands, Train has managed to stay in the game somehow (their first hit came out several years ago). Music is a matter of taste, so a lot of people won't enjoy it, and that's fine. They're welcome to change the radio station or tv channel. Like it or not, this band is "sucking" all the way to the bank, which is more than I can say for most of us.
How does this story make the front page headlines on CNN? Journalism in this day and age is not only dead, its rotting in the grave.
LOL STUPID NERD, YOURE HOME PAGE MUST BE SET TO THE ENTERTAINMENT SECTION OF CNN. OR MAYBE YOUR SO DUM THAT YOU TYPE marquee.blogs.cnn.com INSTEAD OF JUST CNN.COM
Steve, I wouldn't worry too much about criticism from someone who mixes up "you're" and "your" and can't spell the word "dumb".
It's a headline under the "Entertainment" section, genius.
Maybe if these two losers stopped watching so much TV and got a life, it wouldn't bother them as much.
new thread – what other overplayed songes should be banned from commercials?
I'll start with "Born to be Wild"
It's not that it is a bad song, it has just been overplayed on the radio and people like me are tired of hearing it every time I turn around, whether it be on the radio or on tv.
Yeah this all started with that ukelele infused "Somewhere over the rainbow" version several years back that was used in a million commercials. That soft uke intro struck a cord with advertisers, and also with Train who lifted that riff for this song. Way overdone.
I love the song, but I WANT to keep loving. I hate it when ad companies use a song TOO much. Then you hear a great song so much that you start to dislike it. I also feel that the music that Ads use should be relevant to the item it advertises.
Get a Life!!!!!!!!!!!!! If your going to complain about something, make a complaint about something that matters!!!!
You are all crazy! Admit it you all sing it evertime its on..its catchy....Train is a great band with very good songs. Let them have their 15 minutes of fame!!! This too shall pass...leave it alone... You guys got you name on CNN...now, I'm tired of hearing about you!!!
Each to their own. Personally, I love this song and enjoy hearing it on commercials. No, I don't own a lot of Samsung products 😉
I've always wondered who could possibly like a band so god awful as Train. Then I read these comments. Ugh. Personally I don't feel that they even register as music. Just some dude drowning on like a dying monkey while mediocre adult contemporary is played in the background. Then again people love American Idol, people love Nascar, people love building a little culturally dead box they can call home. Pathetic
Turn off your TV. Read a book. Listen to music you like.
At least that song was better than Mellencamp's, "this is our country!" car ad that played for 2 years...
My son (23-months-old) LOVES this song and I think it is the cutest thing ever hearing him try to sing along with it... I am amazed that so many people can dislike a song enough to go to such great lengths to take it down! So many people like it, get over it and just change the channel, or turn it off.
I'm sure you think EVERYTHING your (23 month old) does is just the cutest thing ever. (Wait until he starts singing Usher's Little Freak – not so cute(
Oh, I thought it was just me who kept hearing that tune everywhere.
Get a life turn off the tv, or complain about all the violence on the tube not some song.
It's not being overly used in advertising. It's being overly used by "the media" which includes TV shows and the like.
Being in advertising I can tell you we look for as much exclusivity as possible when it comes to licensing a song for a commercial. The last thing you want is someone else using "your song" in their commercial also.
I despise product placement in tv shows, so I probably didn't know what song was playing during the episode of CSI that this song was featured on, but all 3 versions of CSI play some awful music during the lab work scenes as there is no dialogue. I either fast-forward past the scene or just hit mute. And as for commercials, same thing, FF past them. No way am I going to sit through 5 1/4 minute breaks.
Years ago, when "Charmed" was on, their first few seasons were fine. But then the 3 P's decided to open a bar/lounge (named P3, actually the 3 was an exponent, if I remember the logo correctly). Well, of course, the performers were supposedly up and coming groups in the area. In reality they were artists as shills for the producers since every episode then ended with 'be sure to buy so-and-so's music'. Yeah, not me. I used to just stop the playback. Of course, nothing's changed.
THANK YOU!!!
Everybody and their dog uses this damned song in their ads. I mean, good for Train, bad for the rest of us.
If you don't want to hear the song over and over and over....stop watching so much TV. As far as the radio stations over playing it, get an ipod.
I never knew it was a pop song. I thought it had been written for the Samsung commercials.
While we're at it, would someone please pull the plug on Morgan Freeman's narration career? A dozen lollipops says at least one of those Train commercials was narrated by Freeman.
Nothing like blasting a Hey Soul sister to hysterically enrage an azz hole hipster.
For those who are sick and love the so called humor in giving a bird an Alka-Seltzer, playing the train song in front of a hipster is a much more humane way to see the same effect.
The more they HOPE you CHANGE the station, the more angry and rage-filled they get. Be ready to lock your doors and roll up your windows, they may love to say they are pacifists because it makes them feel cool, but they are anything but.
Have fun making them spew the foam from their mouths all over their Che t-shirts.
Used to like the song...now I hate it. When advertisers get their hands on a song they essentially play it to death.
Great, now the damn song is in my head.
lol,,,I am reading that most girls commenting that they like this song is obvious; get a life. Don't you have anything better to do?
I absolutely HATE that song with a passion. It is the worst song I have EVER heard!
All Train songs are meaningless drivel. Maroon 5 too. Both are over rated, glorified, lousy Vegas-style lounge acts, whose 15 minutes have long expired. BTW, anyone remember that fantastic song, "Mmmm-Bop"? ....Anyone?..... No?
"Mmmbop" is still a great song and Hanson is still going strong and they're better than ever. The kind of people who comment on here about hating a Train song would probably be quick to slag off Hanson when they don't even realize Hanson went indie and is producing some of the best music around on their own. Check out their new album 'Shout it Out.' It's great.
This has nothing to do with "Hey Soul Sister."
Worst song ever. It was used in lab experiments recently in California. After lab rats heard it non-stop for 24 hours they all turned gay. Would rather listen to Nancy Pelosi read an insurance manual word for word than listen to any Train song...particularly this one.
who pays attention to commercials? Dont people just fastforward through them?
I know! Who watches live T.V. anymore? Love my DVR!!!
The song is pretty darn good, and it DEFINITELY worked for the Samsung TV commercials. but its been WAYYY overplayed on the radio and in commercials! So please stop using it for EVERYTHING!
I HATE this song!!! It is SOOOOO annoying!!! Please just let this song die!!!!
I dont like the song, but seriously what a bunch of haters
I have been saying this for a few months. The song is average at best but the hype around it and its use in darn near everything is making my skin crawl.
this song seems like torture, truly. make it go away, now.
I figure the typical low lifes who are sick of this song are just jealous of the hot lady in the video. The fat hog women who look like death warmed over and the stupid ugly men married to those hogs. Just jealousy. Nothing less and nothing more!
Really, does anyone think that this band really cares while they are driving to the bank, and enjoying all their free samsung products... probably not. To be honest with you I would actaully call the guys who wrote this article and thank them, cause all the people who read cnn who may have never heard the song probably looked it up to see why an article of a song was put on cnn.
People wouldn't have a problem with this if they didn't watch so much TV.
it's a catchy song and can fit many commercials to sell products. Who cares if it is played? If you don't like it, turn it off. Pretty simple to me. Better yet hit the mute button!
My 3 year old sang this song before I knew more than a few words to it because he paid more attention. He first started moving about the house to play and randomly would sing, "He–ey, tonight..." and I was like "What in the world are you singing??" Then he moved on to the "Hey soul sister" phrase and now he is back to the previous. When the son comes on he will rock in his car seat and sing the parts he knows, and it cracks me up. He also has a preference for Lady Gaga... It's just too funny. Mind you, he gets to hear the songs, but we don't watch the music video channels. That is a whole other issue. When I was a teen, there were video's all day long. Now all they show are crappy, boring reality shows with a few video's on the side. True, they shouldn't play one song over and over every thirty minutes and it shouldn't be in more than one commercial on the air at a time.
Get that kid some help before its too late!
The hatred I have for this song surprises me sometimes. Ears physically hurt when i hear it on the radio.
I love "Hey Soul Sister," but I understand it is starting to get a bit overplayed in commercials. I notice they do that a lot with some really good songs. So I definitely see where this is going. I think only one company should be able to use it, and since that 3D tv commercial had it first, everyone else should get their own song and stop copying from them. I'm sure there's plenty of great songs out there that can go with what they're promoting. All you have to do is find it. But wait that would be actual work. Gasp ! Oh dear ! I said the "W" word. Guess I'm banished. lol
Train sucks. Drops of Jupiter is one of my all time most hated songs. This Soul Sister thing is right up there as well.
omg this song is in everything. i once watched a slew of commercials BACK TO BACK who used this song. some thank god only use the music but still! sooooooo over played!
These guys need to give it up....they don't like a song ok, but are they being forced to watch the commercials and listen to the song? No....they have all the ability to change the channel. If you don't like it, then don't listen to it
it's possibly the worst song ever created
While we're at it, could we also stop using "RESPECT" by Aretha Franklin? It used to be a good song until it just simply got overplayed in everybody's commercials. Now, i don't care to hear it anymore in it's entirety.
And Bad to the Bone.
No kidding, that song is horribly annoying. Stop playing it period.
I fully support "Stop Advertising From Pulling a Train."
'Hey Soul Sister' is the worst song I've heard in a long time.
Loser
Wow! now we'll all listen to Train and check out the song to see if its as bad as they say–and perhaps like it. Train will definitely sell more music with this one. Good publicity move.
YOU NAILED IT!
The fact that it p.o's the idiot hipsters makes me like the song again!
The worst human beings on the planet these hipsters, they have posters up of a band all over their walls, all their cds, been to their concerts 10 times. Then one day they hear the band on the radio for the first time. They then rip down all the posters, throw away their cds, and blog night and day about how the band sold out and that they hate the band more than George Bush.
Its funny how they are the ones who hate hooks and talk about things like musical integrity when they just listen to stuff because it makes them feel like they are cool. They don't realize that the 300 pound woman at wallmart who likes whatever her pop station tells her to has better musical taste and musical appreciation than the hipster ever could.
try again... this time try to make a bit of sense when you rant
Ha ha, that's great, I knew one of you would take issue. I don't want to insult you in anyway, the way you think is punishment enough.
They sell CCCP t-shirts in college towns just for people like you.
I think these people need to find better ways to use their time. Do some charity work. Help some people. Stop watching tv, go outside, talk to a friend or family over the phone. Better yet, go see them. Train is a great band with good songs. I like the song, my kids like it. It doesn't bother me that it plays on tv commercials. I don't notice it much since I am not glued to the TV like most people. That is why lost of people are so disconnected with life. Always watching Tv or on their smart phones, or both. Move on.
couldnt tell if the singer was a man or woman when i first heard the song... and you dont need to watch 10 hrs of t.v. to catch this. seemed every channel i switched to, had a commercial with this inane song on it... got tired reeeeeeeeal quick
HATERS GONNA HATE
Awesome song. Rocketed to number one so the majority must love it.
This song is a cheap rip off of Jason Mraz anyway, and Jason does it better. This song is definitely annoying, and Im even a fan of some of Train's work.
this song sucked the day it came out, STOP NOW!! I am glad to hear i am not alone in this issue. i mute the tv when it come on. call me a hater oh well....
You're not alone, but you ARE in the small minority that feel that way about the song. No one is the ONLY one in any opinion.
I like the song, but too much of anything is not good for you. Turn of the tube, ride a bike, take a walk without your Itunes and do somethiing nice for someone.
I agree Linda. As a grandmother I love to hear different sounds..makes me happy....
But you can get off the couch, turn off the TV, take a walk, ride a bike, help someone
who needs it,and just enjoy the wonderful life we have in America. It could be worse..
how about in a country where FREE radio, music is not welcomed...God bless.
have a wonderful day....
Love the song...get a life guys
Best song to come out since Usher Yeah, however it has been overplayed to death!
Radio just gives the people what they want and the song is still very popular and not nearly as burned out as it should be with going on a year of constant play on multiple formats. When your hip hop station has played a song like this, I think that says it all.
exactly... the radio stations (80%) here do nothing but play the same songs over and over and over... drives me crazy. They thought i was joking when i called them and asked if they could please change their 10 song playlist and at least make it 20 songs...
What people say they want is not what they really want.
Everyone says radio plays the same songs over and over. However, everytime a radio station expands the playlist, less people listen. The station that plays the hits over and over is always #1.
Only country has real listeners, aka people who aren't insanely obsessed with being precieved as cool. You ask a country listener a question, they give an honest reply. They are comfortable with who they are, the hipster insecurity is quite funny, dangerous for our country tho, and makes for a very sad being.
So, Doug, what you are saying is that people who listen to country music are not obsessed with being cool and are therefore better than other people? That is really one of the stupidest things I have ever heard!
I couldn't agree more!
I hate this song!
And Train is adding to their wealth because of it. Deal with it.
Why don't you just stick to hating yourself, I am sure it is very easy
Any song that references Mister Mister should be banned from airplay.
It's a shame when songs are written around infectious hooks, strictly for cerebral adhesive value (marketability), rather than actually having meaningful content.
Maybe advertisers can stop using "Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel while they're at it.
You are spot on with your comments about inane lyrics paired with infectious hooks. Their new single "If It's Love" is even worse.
It leads me to believe that they wrote the song strictly for marketing purposes, to sell to ad agencies for commercials. Because they know that in less than three years no one will care about this song.
In fact, McDonald's Big Mac jingle will have more longevity than this crappy tune.
Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickels onions on a sesame seed bun!
This song is garbage. What is the line about his untrimmed chest doing in there? Train has some of the worst lyrics ever. People are suckers for that same old melody, and radio will keep churning it out.
I love the song.
Thanks!! Now it'll be in my head the rest of the day.
LOL, Yeah it's already in my head. I read the headline and started humming it. I don't mind, I like that song. Better than having Nic Nac Paddy Wac, like I did the other day because my boss was humming it!
These two need to get a life. Who really cares about a song in a commercial? Try solving a real problem in life. Good grief.
"Real problems" are over on the regular CNN site. I guess you didn't notice this is the "Entertainment" section.\
That said, few things get me to change the channel quicker than hearing that first "hey-ey" of this horrible song.
I think it's a cool song!
What's more annoying is the insurance ads with "Mayhem" in them – it's shakey, brakey time – aaargh! drives me nuts! But when it comes on, I simply mute my TV. I'm sure your TV has a mute button too that you can employ when "Hey Soul Sister" is played.
The song is brutal. Listen to their performance on The Today Show and you'll never want to hear it again.
And while they're at it – can we tone it down on the radio? (including Sirius/XM) The entire ablum fantastic – can we focus on some other songs? Just a thought.
Unfortunately, most of the general public aren't down with listening to full albums anymore.
Yep that's absolutely true. They – the company behind them...it's not like the band gets to make decisions about the duration of any single being played on the radio – will milk any single as long as they possibly can- and THEN they'll move on to the next. Duh.
I think it is a great song, as long as it sells products, why not. There have been other songs that have been played for
many ads, like jason maranz song. There are other things to worry about then a song which is great for all ads and
movies. So quit trying to destroy something good. Unbelievable
Jason Mraz not Maranz. And he is fantastic, by the way.
When the music industry started catering to 14 year old girls, that is when it all went to Hell. Worthless junk, 99% of it.
this song sucks. totally agree with these guys. i think there are other songs that are similarly exploited that need to be stopped.
& u suck much more. So stop
I disliked that song the first time I heard it...
I agree! That song is so annoying. I turn the channel everytime.
Thank GOD I'm not the only one who can't stand this sheisty song. Train has officially acquired 'MUTE' status on TV.
tone deaf
Nerd
Amen. This song is like nails down a chalkboard.
Sorry need to correct something, but DON"T try and force others to think like you.
Why? I think it's a cool song. Just a bunch of haters!!!!
I don't mind the song either. I also don't watch 10 hours of TV a day, which is about the amount of viewing it would take to notice things like this.
I agree, it would take WAY too much TV watching to notice this kind of thing. I do not watch TV at all so I would never see it – Me thinks people need to get out more when complaints such as these exist...
I had heard about the song before I heard the song itself. So when I got the chance I listened. It isn't very good. You keep waiting for the hook, for the song to leave the ground, and it never does, it just stays level throughout. The key is poorly selected as well; from what I understand this is the same guy who sang 'Drops of Jupiter', which was a decent vocal performance, and a good key for his voice but this soul sister business is just a tad too high pitched for that voice. Thanks, I feel better now 😉
Meyers and Stoeckler need to get a leaf (a real cause).
I love that song.
Are people really that concerned about the use of a SONG? When I read this headline, I thought maybe the song had some kind of underlying hate message. But it's just people complaining about hearing a song too many times. Here's an idea- turn off your t.v. Go outside.
Cool song. I just heard it for the first time after reading this story. I hope to hear it more often now.
I love the song.
Nobody ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public – P.T. Barnum
Train rules and the critics drool..... It's nice to have great music like Train being appreciated and it is amazing how many things on television have picked up this one song, go out and get "Save Me San Francisco" or any other Train album and enjoy!!
i am getting sick of the song, and i am getting really sick of all the oh oh oh oh ohoooh oh oh ohoh ohohohoh crap. in fact,, i heard an ad imitating the chorus from that song the other day.
this should not be surprising. advertisers and marketing people have absolutely no imagination, creativity or courage to do something on their own.
Agreed, both to catchy and a bunch of haters! Really, why not protest the state of education in our country, our elected officials, our economy, no jobs ...
It is a cool song–the first ten times you hear it. However, it might just be the most overplayed song of the year. You can't turn on the radio without hearing it. And how on God's green Earth are people just now hearing it for the first time?
I agree with the too much tv commentors
get out of the house, stop using the computer for a while
I agree with the too much tv commentors...
get out of the house, stop using the computer for a while
I like the song as well. Stop grumbling and turn off any media that offends you.
now i am going to download it. its better than YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL geeeeeeeeee i heard it so many times in a singe day when it was popular
Who cares?!? There are many other more important matters to deal with other than a song that's being circulated too much. Geez!
Absolutely! Ignore the comments against you. You are right.
Are they kidding??? Who would ever complain about such nonsense??? Soul Sister is one of the most uplifting songs ever written. Morons!!! They need to get a life and one with some joy in it!! Maybe they need to go to a Train concert and stop watching so much damn TV. I say Soul Sister forever and everywhere!!!!!
Hey I love the song, if you don't like it, turn the volume down or change the channel like many people do with what they consider to be annoying commercials or music Duhh..
I love this song and I had no idea it was being used for advertising until now...and I do watch TV, but almost always things I had DVRed...I don't do commercials...people need to channel their crazy into healthy productive causes, like bringing attention to real issues, not this kind of nonsense!
PLEASE join, thanks!

I love that song too! And I agree with Mike. Those who hate it probably sit and watch the tube all day. That's why they hear it too often. When I do hear it, it cheers me up. Love it!
I agree, these guys should get a life. Train is awesome and Hey Soul Sister is just one of the many great songs they have. And they are terrific guys on top of that. I'm so happy for their success and so are many others.
I hear comments like "I hate that song!" all the time.......from my kids! How old are these guys?
Meyers and Stoeckler you have your opinion and that's great, but don't try and push your opinion on others. Let people think for themselves. I personally like the song and when I hear it at times yes it gets stuck in my head but it is a tune that puts a smile on your face and with the way the world is, everyone could use that. Just keep your opinion but try and force others to go along.
Get a life if something that trivial is bothersome.
The good thing about us "haters" is that we are not idiots like you conformists who always like what's pushed onto you. You probably think Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez are good singers, too.
stupid people have bad taste.fake music like this everywhere is why life today is feels empty for mosst middle of the road americans. they dont notice its crap like this ruining thwir lives. they project on the Haters. Yes I hate you all.
I have never even heard of this song till this article.
the song SUCKS...unless you're a 13 year old girl, you should really be listening to something better.
this song is horrible...and so is that snuggie macarena song.
I'm glad their everywhere I love train...
Actually I agree with them though...I actually do NOT watch alot of tv, but when I do, it seems like that song is on all the time. I will gladly join their rebellion against this overplayed song. I didnt think it was a bad song at first, but anytime you hear anything too much....arggghhhhh!!!!!!!
The radio in my office is right behind me. It is set to one of those "wannabe cool" adult contenporary stations. Just when I thought I would kill myself if I ever heard Tears For Fears/ Everybody Wants To Rule The World one more time, they switche dit over to Train. That was about a year ago. 9 times a day always at the same time. Now when I am home watching T.V. this wuss rock song haunts me on every station. I CAN'T TAKE IT ANT MORE. KILL TRAIN
TOTALLY hate this song. You don't have to watch TV for hours to notice it, it's on every other freaking advertisement. I don't know of anyone over 10 that likes it.
