Behind the Scenes on 'Showbiz Tonight': Michael Bolton should quit his whining

"Boo-hoo!" That’s what a lot of people were saying this morning in our "Showbiz Tonight" staff meeting about Michael Bolton’s complaint that he was treated poorly on “Dancing With the Stars."

A majority of the staff agreed with Judge Bruno Tonioli – that Bolton just can’t dance and that he should just “quit his whining.” It is a dance competition after all, isn't it?

And after Katy Perry got the boot from "Sesame Street" after she was deemed too hot for Elmo and his friends, "Showbiz Tonight" has just learned that Katy is going to make a special appearance on “The Simpsons." It’s for a special holiday, all-puppet version of the show in which Perry will play a bartender.

And now serving up something to read: “Jersey Shore” reality star Snooki is writing her very first book. There was a collective chuckle in the morning meeting, considering Snooki tweeted just a couple of months ago that she was officially reading her first book ever!

We're covering all this and more on "Showbiz Tonight" at 5 p.m. ET. And remember, we're still TV's most provocative entertainment news show seven days a week at 11 p.m. ET/PT!

Watch Showbiz Tonight Weekdays Exclusively at 11PM ET on HLN.

  2. Patricia,

I think Bruno's comment was out of line..I've witnessed many stars performances worse then Michael Bolton and criticism from Bruno did not go back 11yrs...We tune in to watch the celebrities perform. Were does it say that they have to be a professional dancer.

Perhaps Bruno may be a little jealous of MIchael Bolton. I hope Bruno comment does not prevent stars for appearing on natiional televison, in fear of that kind of criticism !!!

Perhaps the choreography was the best Chellsie could think of after seeing that Michael Bolton couldn't dance. For those of you who think Bruno was unkind, I beg of you to reconsider: is saying that the worst jive is indeed the worst jive really so derrogatory? NO! It's not like Bruno bood him, like the unkind audience did to Sarah Palin. She was only there to see her daughter.

Michael B is a bad sport with not an ounce of dignity to accept criticism with grace. Bruno has judged harshly before as all the judges have at one time or another. MB also had a snotty expression on his face like he expected GOOD reviews. Get real MB, you are a big sissy baby and you should DROP IT already, show some manly balls and stop the drama.

I'm not even a big fan of MB, so my comments are about principle, not so much to come to any one contestant's defense. This is NOT about whether or not MB is a snob or male Diva. It's about Bruno's INTENTIONALLY hurtful commentary to a contestant(for ratings). I think MB was a good sport for agreeing to perform POOR choreography. Why didn't Bruno address that; instead of making derrogatory remarks to a contestant, who's family is in the audience. There should be some level of sensitivity given to contestants for that reason alone. Bruno was certainly not as nasty to KG??

Michael should really shut his pie-hole! The judge was just being honest – it WAS the worst ever in 11 seasons! Actually the judge was nice enough to say enough to say it was the worst JIVE dance performance in 11 was probably the worst of any style of dance.

Bergeron was the real culprit – if he hadn't chastised Bruno about his remark at the time on would have been forgotten about by everyone!

Bruno was over-the-top - the 3 was uncalled for - but Michael Bolton's juvenile behaviour makes this even more embarrassing for the singer. Take it like a man, Michael.

Bruno was rude and very out of line. Understand being honest but in a harsh way, why? What was the purpose of being crude and no tact in his delivery. He offended Billy Ray as well. Do they really expect stars to line up for the show when this is an example of the judging?

I'm done with the show as Bruno has been on the border line with me already. Not anymore.

Michael Bolton does not deserve an apology. He is no better than anyone else that has been told off by Bruno.I say Go Bruno tell it like it is if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen or in this case off the dance floor. I'm glad he's gone.

time for michael bolton to grow up and stop looking for pity. i for one think the judges were dead on, not sure i would have even given him a 3. evidently he thinks his name warrents a higher score. he may be able to sing but he sure cannot dance!! good job judges nice to see the honesty

Michael Bolton acted like a jerk while learning to dance! He probably ticked so many people off that the comment just came out. He is a terrible dancer. Grow up Michael!!! I have seen him at other times on different events and he is a stuck up snob!! His head is too big for his shoulders.

Bruno was way out of line with Michael Bolton . He didn't say that bad of things about Kate Gosslyn and she was terrible but he was not rude to her, why Michael

The minute Michael Bolton crawled out of that doghouse, he forfeited any right to expect to be treated with respect. What an embarassing and humiliating display!

Since when is it not Michael Bolton, or anyone else's right to voice their opinion when they witness bad behavior or INTENTIONALLY inappropriate commentary? That is NOT whining!!!!! I found Bruno's remarks SHAMEFUL!!! Popular media today "make sport" of mean-spiritedness for ratings. Since they influence the general public, they also give license to other people to act the same way in their daily lives. People need to "think" before they speak. Bruno could've simply told Michael Bolton he didn't like his dancing...he did NOT have to say it was, "the worst he'd seen in 11yrs." MB's elderly Mother traveled there to be in the audience & certainly did NOT need to hear such nastiness about her son!!! Bruno was clearly in the WRONG!!!! I for one (& MANY of my FB friends agree, we will NO LONGER watch DWS, as they apparently feel nothing is off limits – NOT something I would want to view). 🙁
