Was Sarah Palin booed on 'DWTS'?

The “Dancing with the Stars” cameras were focused on Derek Hough and Jennifer Grey Monday night when audible jeers erupted from the audience, leaving some viewers to wonder if the negative reaction was because of Sarah Palin’s appearance on the show.

Co-host Brooke Burke was chatting with Hough and Grey when the disruption started, causing Hough to turn around to look for its source as Burke told the audience, “There’s booing in the ballroom; we don’t know why.” Grey even asked, “Why is there booing?” before the camera cut to Sarah Palin sitting next to Tom Bergeron.

Once Bergeron picked up the interview, Palin was all smiles and the audience behind her seemed calm and collected. She told Bergeron that the experience “is amazing, it’s so exciting, and it’s great to see all of this courage and joy and exuberance,” adding that she was there to root for “Bristol the pistol.”

But it seems like the boos could've been in reaction to Grey’s low score; People reports that the audience may have hoped to see at least a nine instead of a score of consecutive eight's from the judges.

Update 12:25 p.m.: Bergeron backed up reports that it was the scores for Grey's performance and not Sarah Palin's presence that outraged the audience when the "DWTS" host sat down with Jimmy Kimmel. "They felt that Jennifer got screwed, that she should've gotten nines," he explained. The audience is "hammered half the time," anyway, so take their actions with a grain of salt, we suppose.

I choked on my ice water when Sarah Palin made the comment about Bristol was going to unload her bullets on DWTS; funny, but I think it was Levi's Johnson (oh too bad that is not his actual last name) that unloaded bullets into Bristol! The comment was so hilarious - it just shows how dumb SP is, to make such a loaded (no pun intended) comment about her daughter.

I used to kind of roll my eyes at the mention of Michael Bolton, but after last week's show I gained respect for him at being such a gentleman in response to Bruno's uncalled for rude behavior - obviously he had some personal beef with Michael Bolton.

With all the free positive publicity ABC is giving Sarah Palin (and the judges fawning over Bristol, who with the exception of a couple of steps, was PULLED along the dance floor by her partner) and Bruno's disgusting behavior, I am no longer watching the show - the only people I am remotely interested in watching are Jennifer Gray and Derek Hough.

You people are totally ignorant! Whats Bush/Obama/teabaggers have to do with ANY of this??? Please, one of you geniuses tell me that!!!! You dont like Sarah Palin? Fine! She's not in office anymore, so whats your problem???? I assume she has threatened your way of life here in America in some way.....what way was it? Tell everyone EXACTLY how Sarah Palin has threatened your family! You must hate her for a very good reason...what is it? Tell us how she has totally destroyed your family.

She is not nearly as popular as the "Fox" PAC would like you to believe if there were any women present then she was BOO"D.....Female voters are especially negative about Palin. Fifty-four percent have an unfavorable view of her. No other Republicans tested in this poll had such high negatives among women.

I loe tea, I know you are trying to show them the truth but they have no idea what is going on in America, their vision is impared. They have been having a staring contest with Obama's colin for the last 2 years!

    Rember every Democrat believes:

It is their right to burn bibles, but burning a Koran is a hate crime.

If you don't like Obama's tie you are a racist, but when klan man Robert Byrd said the N word on TV, well it wasn't racism, he is a Democrat, that is why not one Democrat said one negative word about it.

It was tolerance to make a movie about killing Bush and wishing death to him and Palin and their families, but you should be charged with a hate crime if you mention any of Obama's closest assoicates.

Embarrassed – You clearly don't have a clue. First off, placing all the blame squarely on W. when the Dems controlled the house for much of his tenure in office, and basically didn't do ANYTHING during his last two years so they could run on a platform of change is laughable. And while you bemoan Sarah P's inexperience, you fail to mention that Obama basically spent TWO years as a senator before he started stumping for the big job on a full time basis. Couple that with Obama cutting his teeth in the most corrupt state in the country (when dealing with politics), the fact that Obama didn't keep ANY of his 100 day promises – and the fact that the people WILL speak when they vote to put many new Republicans in office this year, and you'll see that your blind love of Obama is misplaced. Perhaps if HE'D done something other than writing a book to warrant the top position, you'd have a point. But he didn't, and you don't.

I don't think she should be president but she would be a much better leader than Obama who is purposely destroying America, you would be suprised by how many Democrats openly support it.

At the end of the day SARAH Palin is a better, more decent, honest, fair, kind, compassionate person than every single Democrat in all 50 states, not 57 libs, of America. Democrats don't believe in a god because of the way they conduct their lives, they don't want to have to pay for their liberalism.

So Jennifer Gray, who knows how to dance, got 3 8's. Bristol Palin, who cannot dance, got two 7's and an 8. If you saw the two dances you would have seen the obvious difference in ability. Clearly Bristol got some favoritism from the judges cuz her Mom was there. This isn't an anti-Pailn thing, it's me noting a clear bit of favoritism on the part of the judges.

Whether you like Sarah Palin or not, admit it that she is drawing attention wherever she goes. That is until you stop talking about her, and the cameras stop getting a glimpse of her, the interviews never happen, etc. DWTS is not a politcal show and she is just there to cheer for her daughter just like everyone else will do. It is us who brings politics to the show. So stop it. If the audience booed because of her presence and interview, what a cheap crowd DWTS attracts. So get it over with, people. Sarah Palin still attracts attention. Does that tell you something? You bet.

This country is in the toilet already... all we need is someone like her to grab the handle and FLUSH it. The real indicator that we should be watching is how many people are perfectly willing to let someone who knows so little control so much. We are no longer a great nation. A great nation is comprised of a large number of great people. Who are educated. And know how to spell.

I am amazed over and over again by how so many Americans can be so blind. If being a common person or a person from humble origins is so bad, we would have to wonder how someone like Abraham Lincoln could be fit to be president. I shudder at the thought of what will become of our great land should the present leader continue to be in power. It's time for TRUE Americans stand up and be heard. President Obama was in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004 (seven years), a U.S. senator for four years, and has been President for two years. A total of 13 years.

The plural of the word "eight" is "eights" and not "eight's." Adding the apostrophe makes the word possessive, and I do not believe an eight can possess anything. Certainly, in the context of the sentence it does not. Grammar; it's not that hard.

Really, that's the only part about her history that I can respect. Okay, so she didn't go to school and finish in 4 years, but she did finish. It shows that she can follow through and get something done, even when it's hard. It's a shame that she didn't have that kind of chutzpah when it came to running a bloody state. It's a shame that, in spite of her managing to get through school, she can hardly string a sentence together. The real shame is that people would be willing to vote for her.

A lot of people posting here probably don't even watch the show. I've been watching for 8 seasons, and they never boo before the scores are given. Also the Jennifer and Derek's dance was definitely an "8" dance, which was what she got. It's a good score and they were the top of the leaderboard. There's no way the audience will be unsatisfied with that. A total of 24 on week 2 is excellent.

They had to turn the spotlight on Palin. She probably stood up to greet the crowd. The audience usually consists of political liberals and moderates. Of course they're going to boo her. She's a threat to both Dems and the GOP. However, the audience does love Bristol. She has potential. If she practices hard, she can win.

Yes, heaven forbid – all we have is Hilary, who is a freaking Rhodes scholar. ONLY moronic, childish men would actually say that they would rather have Palin because she's beautiful? really? – do you want that person to accidentally push the "red button"? Yes, she's more attractive than Hilary – but I would rather have somebody with a brain in the White House. If I wanted to look at beautiful women (she's pretty, but not beautiful, btw) – I'd go buy Glamor magazine.

The Republicans have Sarah – whom I wish could produce her high school diploma –wait – it's probably in her backyard in RUSSIA.

She was a governor for a lot less time than Obama was a Senator – Alaska has less people in the state than Oklahoma City has in the freaking city! Never mind, LA,etc. It saddens/sickens me to say this – but Bush, Jr. was more qualified than Palin.
      Wow. double-wowsie.

I didn't watch the show this season because I refuse to support this line-up of "stars" – and Sarah's face makes me want to puke.

I don't care how much Fox paid to support this show – Bristol Palin is NO star....and what a family of hypocrites – -slamming Bristol's ex-fiance because he would do anything for money – then this????? Not counting Sarah's 7 million dollar payout to leave the Governorship.....what would she take to leave the White House – 20 million? Look, I'll be the first to admit, I CAN'T STAND PALIN! She gets on every nerve I have! I think she arrogant, ignorant and rude. I refuse to read any articles about her anymore and will turn TV channels if her goofy face appears on the screen. I also haven't watched DWTS this season yet and probably won't, even though I use to record every episode up till now. I have no use for this show anymore. I don't want to watch Palin's bimbo daughter shake her butt and I'm sick and tired of seeing Piper take care of the babies. Bristol is NO STAR! She's and unwed teenage mother and I
have no respect for her. In fact, I tell my son's to stay away from trash like her. I wish I could see Jennifer Gray dance though.

It was not clear what the audience was booing.

It was clear that they were NOT booing Grey's scores. The audience had completely quieted after the scores were announced, then roared at once, together into boos during an innocuous backstage interview with Grey. That the booing stunned everyone backstage reflects a disconnection with the interview.

When the shot returned to the ballroom, it was clear that Palin had just become the focus of attention there.

Proof the audience did not boo Sarah was that just moments after the booing, Tom introduced Sarah, and the crowd CHEERED! Watch any live show (particularly any daytime talk show) that does cutaways of the studio audience during an 'emotional response' to a statement. The sound and the audience landscape rarely, if ever, match. The sounds are stock sounds, kept in a server/library and hauled out for the express purpose of perpetuating the corporate brand during what the director or editor perceives as an appropriate moment. When the judges announced the scores the audience clapped and the interview with Burke began. The booing began when Tom went over to Sarah to interview her. The audience had tolerated her but was annoyed that she was going to get camera time. You can actually see the look of displeasure on her face right as the camera cuts to her and Tom. I guess I would have sympathy if I didn't think she was a complete moron who appeals to morons who think that politics are a celebrity contest and not a job requiring skill and knowledge.

The boos did not start until after the scores went up. Tom went to sit down next to Sarah Palin and while the camera was on Jennifer the booing started. The lag in time from the scores and when the booing started was the time for Tom to walk over to Sarah to start an interview. The audience saw the potential interview and that is why there was booing. If it was the score being booed at it would have occurred during the score announcement not after.

I agree with Josh, I can't stand her or her tea bagger friends. I don't even think the judges like her. Sarah Palin should be booed all of the time. She is a joke to America!

Josh is right. palin should be booed any time a chance is presented. She is a complete joke and has made a mockery out of the American political system.

How anyone can think that this ignorant individual is qualified to run for public office is ridiculous. I can't wait until 2012 comes and goes and palin fades out of sight following her failed presidential bid.

To JB – "appeals to morons who think that politics are a celebrity contest and not a job requiring skill and knowledge." See: Obama, Barrack.

I'm no Palin fan, but c'mon. Obama is very smart, eloquent, etc., but the guy had zero resume to run for president. I remember laughing when I heard him as a potential candidate, thinking "maybe in 8 years". Yet your above-mentioned celebrity contest got him voted in. Policies aside, I was in disbelief that we would elect a president with such a threadbare resume. Palin was up for VP and had a longer list of accomplishments than Obama had.

I do think Sarah Palin is ignorant and dumb but I don't think thats why the audience booed. I'm sure there were lots of dumb people in the audience that didn't get booed

One of these days, we as intelligent humans, are going to stop the negativity and start to focus on positive. Yes, it's a free country but feeding negativity does not allow the mind or soul to shine. Positivity breeds positivity. Sarah Palin was on the show to support her daughter, and of course the network is going to give her air time. No matter who it was. Booing a person is disrespectful and thoughtless. No matter if you like them or not. Respect. No wonder kids these days have none: look at their parents, and who they listen to in the media. There's TONS of people I don't like. I don't give them energy. It makes me chuckle that people are so infatuated with SP whether they like her or not. You are wasting your energy on someone whom you don't like? Really? Amusing and sad.

Yes, it was Palin being booed. The audience sometimes boos for low scores, but they ALWAYS do it when each judge reveals each score. In this case the audience was cheering as the 8's were revealed, cheering louder with each 8. The boos didn't start until several seconds after the scores were revealed. They were obviously not booing the scores. There had to be something else, and the most obvious answer is Palin.

So much "passion" over one person in the audience to support her daughter. Whenever I've watched the show, I have seen celebrity dancer's families shown on TV (e.g. Ozzy Osbourne????). You guys need to give it a rest. If you don't agree with Palin's political views, you can disagree without being so disagreeable. The whole point of having a democratic government is so that political candidates can express their thoughts and visions for the country. Then we the people get to decide who will govern us. If you demonize everyone you disagree with, eventually the most qualified candidates we want to run for office will say "I'm not putting myself OR my family through this nightmare.". Take a step back and look at what you are creating with all this childish nonsense!!!
