'Octomom' sells photos with kids at yard saleShoppers in need of eight little devil Halloween costumes were in luck this weekend, as Nadya "Octomom" Suleman held a yard sale at her La Habra, Calif., home. According to the Orange County Register, about 150 people descended upon her residence by 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The goodies up for grabs included a nursing bra autographed by Suleman and the couch she was perched upon when she learned she was pregnant with octuplets. A photo with Suleman could be had for $10, and for $100, her eight little ones would join in. The paper reports that one woman paid $25 for two baby outfits and a photo while another forked over $85 for a refrigerator that once stored baby formula. A Suleman-signed Kobe Bryant jersey fetched a whopping $125. "It's just a matter of survival: Food, shelter and clothing," 35-year-old Suleman told the Orange County Register of her reason for the event. "There are financial troubles." |

CPS will not step in until one of those kids is badly hurt or accidentally killed. And don't be surprised if Nadia herself flips and does it; but still she won't be to blame; CPS will. Face it, the woman is a user and a loser! I agree with those that say they feel sorry for the kids and that they shouldn't do without but their mother has refused the aid that is available from the state. She has on several occasions said that she won't take any form of welfare. SHE is the one endangering the kids when there is a ready solution at her disposal. She is ready to hawk their pictures, sell their story, be on a reality show, accept handouts from private citizens but she won't take the steps to feed her children through welfare? I say take the kids away from her if she won't provide for them. They would have a better life even if they had to be split up to be adopted than to be left for one more day in Octomom's care!

What galls me is that 3 of her first 6 children have some form of autism and STILL, she has 8 more children with the same genetic father? I'm the mother of one child on the autism spectrum and that requires a lot of devotion to give the child a good start in life All this is SO unfair to those 3 special needs children and what I wonder is how many of the new 8 will have special needs? This woman can't possibly be able to mother these kids properly.

The biggest problem I see is that even if she could find a job, she couldn't afford to pay someone to watch all 14 of her kids while she worked. She probably makes more on welfare than she ever could by working if you consider the costs associated with childcare.
The obsession with having so many kids that she couldn't hope to take care of should be considered a mental illness in my opinion. Why aren't the children being taken away to be placed with people who are better suited to give them a normal life? I believe that the city/county/state should go after the doctor fo any legal costs associated with child custody actions against this family because the doc was extremely negligent in going through with this.

Well this is interesting... a bunch of her stuff is now up for auction on ebay, the seller is "octodaddy1" and is claiming "Please bid generously as all the proceeds are going straight to the 14 kids." The seller feedback score is high, but I wonder if they are really going to give her the money? No way to be certain... or even who the seller is. Weird!!! Anyhow...The sonogram pictures are up to $124.50 and there is still 7 hrs left to the auction. Octomom's signed Red bikini from Star Magazine cover is at $203.50. There's also got a baby carrier, shoes, a diaper bag, and a bunch of other stuff.

Really? To the second comment, yep.. it's hard being a single parent, but unlike some single parents she chose her fate. I am sure she was told that there was a high risk of having multiples, so she should have been financially prepared for the task. Instead she decided to take advantage of the fact that people pay BIG MONEY if you have large family. I am in college, I am not financially ready for a big family but what I am learning from Suleman is that if I have a ton of kids right now, it can probably pay for my college tuition right? I agree 14 children are more than a handful especially alone. However, I have to admire this womans faith, desire and determination to have a large family. It's definetly against the odds, but God has allowed for it, so I have to believe it is for a reason. Where there is love there is hope, I don't see a shortage in this, and material stuff will always be just stuff. The Duggar family does quite well for themselves and they have more children than she does. Maybe she should take some lessons from them.
the first tip for how well they live is– "be debt free"...it'll be years before she gets there. living frugally- that means no more surgery. even before the tv shows the duggars were very frugal, its only the past few years where they finished the house and were able to spend money beyond necessities.
That's all she needs to do. Live a bit more frugal. Instead she's out trying to buy all these little devil costumes. I think, even if she took all the religion out of their teachings, she could still learn a few things. All they need is necessities....because when she tries to do all this other crap, they start lacking even on the needed items.
If you need to start selling photos of your children because they are an "exhibit" doesn't that mean that you shouldn't have had them in the first place.
As a first time parent, I do understand how overwhelming the changes can be. HOWEVER, my daughter isn't a circus act and I wouldn't ever want to do things for others to consider that. I HAVE made some pretty crappy choices in my life but they were all before my daughter was born (January 2009). Having had my daughter, has helped me to straighten out my life and learn what is important and what isn't.
This girl got herself into a miserable mess. Her life has to be a constant struggle.. I feel sympathetic towards her in that odd kind of 'gawking at a wreck as your driving by' kind of way..

I've seen some of the best parents who were financially stable & who seemed to do everything quite right(by todays standards) raise some of the most horrible kids.But then I also know some pretty crappy, whacked out, low income parents whose children are some of societys best (Dr, lawyers,military) so what does Octomoms financial status have to do with anything? And who cares if she's selling pics or signing bras? At least she was smart enough to make some money (of sorts).

I have identical triplets, naturally conceived. There are many unstable people out there; therefore, I think there should be laws in place on the number of embryos implanted in a woman...no more than 4. Doctor's are supposed to be educated, but that doesn't mean there aren't some lunatic doctor's out there that do this for the money and/or fame. Start holding them accountable, arresting, convicting, & making them serve prison time and maybe this will stop. When there are large "litters" like this, ONLY the children suffer!
This woman obviously has issues. I wish she got some support from her community so she can tap into her potential and become the best person/mother she can possibly be. Everyone has made her to feel shame and the couple things I've read about how she's earned money for her family pains my heart. While it is important for this family to be able to support itself, it appears that it may be more constructive to assist the parent in developing self-supporting behaviors and lifestyle. Purchasing her belongings for more than their street value and continuing media coverage of her behavior provide positive reinforcement of her lack of ability to be responsible and self sufficient. Many single mothers of multiple children have obtained education and ultimately employment which provides adequately for their families. There can be a lot of pride developed through that course of action and it removes the family from of public assistance (or lessens that demand).

Pretty sure that neglect is a form of abuse, as is being in an environment not suitable for said children. Facts are she cannot possibly take care of all of these kids the way they need to be taken care of. Also, the fact that she can not support them, and is selling pictures of her and her babies for profit, should tell the tale. There's no evidence that kids need individual attention. It is possible for Nadya to pay attention to multiple children simultaneously. Furthermore, children get a lot from spending time with each other. I know my daughter gets a lot out of daycare, more from the other kids than from the teachers. She picks up more skills there than at home, where most of the time she is getting the undivided attention of at least one, sometimes two or more parents and grandparents. Speaking of grandparents, I'm pretty sure Nadya's mother helps out with the kids.

In fairness, she didn't expect octuplets when she got pregnant via artificial insemination. The doctor implanted six embryos, assuming only one or two would take, because that is what had happened before. Instead, all six thrived, and two split into identical twins. That being said, implanting six embryos into a woman under 35 with six other kids was pretty irresponsible of the doctor!

That's the difference between Octomom and most other moms of high-order multiples. Most other high-order multiples come from fertility drugs – clomid, etc. – and you are told that the risk of high order multiples is "negligible – a very low possibility." Most women who take these drugs don't ovulate on their own anyways – so "hyper ovulation" is not something we worry about. Every woman I've know who has had to undergo fertility treatments is told that multiples are usually twins or triplets. It's a possibility to have more, but very unlikely. The many women I've know who have gone through IVF have had responsible dr's who refuse to implant more than 2 embryos at a time for that very reason ...
This woman's whole life has been about manipulating people into doing what she wants, even at the risk of their own professional reputations. Her Dr. should be punished for allowing this to happen.
The saddest part of her whole story are these innocent babies. How awful for them to have to grow up in such conditions – being used for money the way they are (and were always, always intended to be). She claims to be such a good mom – then follow the lead of the Dilleys, the McCaugheys and the many other high-order multiples families who do NOT seek out media attention and prefer to keep their kids' lives as normal as possible. I once read somewhere that some countries in Europe have a law that a doctor cannot implant more than two embryos at a time. I think the doctor should be reprimanded.

Welfare reform is here. 1996 here in KY. Women/Families have to work, volunteer, or go to school at least 20 hours a week, every week in order to be eligible for cash benefits. Same with the food benefits. If you are an adult with no minor dependents than you too are required to work, volunteer in order to get those benefits. However, right now with the economy in the crapper, that has been set aside until it improves. There are not many jobs to have and Kentucky is far from a rich state.

Oh I'd say it's over. That's why she's almost out of money and relying on yard sales. I hope the children will be OK. I understand some of them have development issues. Just a few more problems to add to the growing list.
How was she planning to house, feed and clothe them when she decided to get pregnant? If she hadn't gotten famous, she wouldn't even be able to sell this stuff for more than at any other yard sale price. I'm truly surprised she isn't in a government housing unit yet. Just give it some time. I'm very hopeful that her parents don't bail her out. She needs to face the consequences of her actions and sadly, her kids will need to witness it.
I truly feel it's time for Protective Services to step in. At this point, I know she loves those babies but if she wants the best for them, she will give them up for adoption before they are any older.

To those of you who think her kids would be "easily" adopted really need to look into the U.S. and the States adoption laws. Why do you think so many people go outside the US to find children to adopt? If she gave the kids up now (and she probably should), some won't get adopted as a few have health issues. Those kids are the last to get adopted. Some kids never get adopted and live all their early life in orphanages. I hate to put it in economic terms, but whether she gets welfare or if they live in orphanages, our tax dollars will still be paying for the children. They are innocent and should not be made to suffer for the mom's selfishness and/or stupidity. If adoption were made a little easier in this country (still with all the safegaurds), I think there would be more adoptions in the U.S. Just my two cents.

I saw her with her father and two of her older boys at Yogurtland in La Habra last Friday. She seemed miffed at her Dad. I heard her say she just wanted to get some frozen yogurt to put in the freezer. I don't know if he was trying to veto the idea or what. It seemed like there was a little arguing going on . Anyhow, the baby's aren't going hungry. I think she would have been buying groceries at Walmart across the way instead of frozen yogurt if that was the case. She just needs to drum up cash like many of us!
