Was Katy Perry too sexy for Sesame Street?“Sesame Street” has said "yes" and then "no" to Katy Perry’s appearance on the iconic children’s TV show after parents reportedly complained the star's outfit revealed a bit too much of her cleavage. The 25-year-old singer stopped by “Sesame Street” to make a kid-friendly music video of "Hot N Cold" with Elmo, which made rounds on the Web earlier this week. The song itself was cleaned up for kids, but it seems that to some parents, her clothing wasn't. According to TMZ, Sesame Workshop received complaints like, "You can practically see her [expletive]," and "they're gonna have to rename it cleavage avenue."
In a statement, a rep for Sesame Workshop said that the show “has a long history of working with celebrities across all genres, including athletes, actors, musicians and artists. Sesame Street has always been written on two levels, for the child and adult.” The show uses celebrities and parody segments to grab the interest of adults “because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver. We also value our viewer’s opinions and particularly those of parents,” the statement went on. “In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street, which is aimed at preschoolers,” the statement concluded. In response, Perry’s rep has also released a statement: "Katy enjoyed working with Sesame Street, Kevin Clash and playing dress up with Elmo. You can view all the fun at www.katyperry.com." |

I simply could not go away your web site before suggesting that I actually enjoyed the standard information a person provide to your visitors? Is gonna be back continuously to check out new posts
Thanks , I have recently been looking for info about this subject for a long time and yours is the best I've came upon till now. But, what in regards to the bottom line? Are you certain in regards to the source?|What i do not realize is in truth how you're no longer really much more neatly-favored than you may be now. You're very intelligent.
Heya i'm for the first time here. I came across this board and I find It really useful & it helped me out a lot. I'm hoping to offer one thing again and help others such as you helped me.
Some really prize blog posts on this website , saved to bookmarks .
The way I see it, Sesame Streets main audience is comprised of kids that just kicked the mommy juice, so I figure it would at least be nostalgic for them.
Katy Perry is a ho just like Beyonce and Riana and Aguilera and Keisha and Lady GG (the two biggest hos). Wouldn't it be nice if women could show us thier talent instead of thier crotches and chests? Todays music for the most part sucks. No talents showing sus thier parts.
u know im sorry my kids wont even watch sesame stree its so outdated anymore anyway and as far as katy perry yea a very wrong choice to be on a kids show when we all no she sings and dances and even looks like she has been around the block more times than once and i dont mean sesame stree either
I mean really? Do people not have enough to do, so they have to call a show and complain about the wardrobe? It isn't that bad, plus I bet your kid had no clue about the status of Katy Perry's special parts, they were busying enjoying their favorite tv show. Lighten up, please.
Feel free to join the conversation about films at http://khocolatemoose.wordpress.com/

You know, the complaints about Ms. Perry's appearance crack me up. The target audience–the pre-K set–is not likely to notice much about what she's wearing besides the fact that it kind of looks like the dress on a Happy Meal Barbie. If for some reason there're seven- or eight-year-olds watching, then yes, there might be some reactions.
Her outfit looks like a classic Barbie doll get-up. Nothing particularly offensive. Could have perhaps used an inch more fabric, but not something to start cursing a blue streak about.
HELL, I THOUGHT KATY PERRY WAS BUMPING AND GRINDING WITH ELMO!SUSAN AND GORDON HAD A BABY(MILES) ON SESAME STREET AND WE KNEW HE WASN'T HATCHED IN BIG BIRD'S NEST. BFD
They should not have filmed Katy Perry for the show solely because she is gross. Her music is as grotesque as her face.
One more inch of fabric and this would have been a non-issue. Is that too much to ask to not offend parents?
Just because every other TV program broadcasts trash does not mean Sesame Street should too.
Katy Perry has great boobs both my son (6) and I (37) agree. Thanks for the softcore sesame street.
Someone tell the folks at Walt Disney World to get their Princess Jasmine and Ariel actresses to cover up while we're at it. SCANDALOUS. AVERT THINE EYES. /sarcasm
This reminds me of the “Bert and Ernie secretly portray a gay couple” controversy of about 18 years ago. Get real, I watched the video, it was adorable. It was filmed back in March and no objections for the last 6 month. But – the conservatives have spoken, and Sesame Street complied… too bad, I guess today’s lesson for our youth is “tis better to be popular than right”.
I LOVE JACOB DANIEL SMITH BAYBEEEEEE(: IDC WHAT KATY PERRY WEARS! NEITHER SHOULD YOU.
I LOVE JACOB SMITH TOO!!!!!!!!!!
YOUR ALL STUPID.
Some commercials preschool kids see are worse than what Ms. Perry is wearing and quite frankly until mentioned I was noticing her facial expressions and not what she was wearing. The kids would have loved this segment and shame on Sesame Street for listening to a few misguided complaints.
The show is about education and fun. The show was certainly fun and as far as education goes the kids are listening to the songs more than looking at what one person is wearing. For heaven's sake they have been showing Miss Piggy in far less for years.
Get a grip people that are complaining, there is worse in your childrens' lives to be concerned about than what a celebrity wears on a television show that you are at complete and total liberty of turning OFF.
"there is worse in your childrens' lives to be concerned about".................... You are right, but maybe this is a good place to start evaluating what our kids are subjected to by media companies.
WE DON'T DESERVE THIS PLANET. They are BREASTS and all mammals have them! Right?! Hers are nice but give each other a break – Guess what! Its not a large contributor to the decline of civilization – NARROW MINDS are!!
Yes, human body is beautiful and not bad. Yes, you can see worse at the pool and on other TV channels. But, that is only one part of the argument. The other part is totally being missed by so many addicts above b/c 1) they were either so desensitized that they are only turned on by truly graphic images or 2) They were hoping for Katy's "wardrobe malfunction". Katy's dress teaches the objectification of women on, of all things, a child's education show. Anyone who has taken psychology 101or has had kids, knows that children learn through observation and imitation. That is why there is age appropriate material for children. Katy's, in your face, objectification is not age appropriate for children of Sesame Street viewing age.
GUNS KILL!!!!!!!!! OOPS WRONG TOPIC, HECK I WANTED TO BANG ELMO.
What's the problem. It was a really cute video
its not a big deal, i mean i have a 6 yearold cousin and he was just dancing to the music. its not like toddlers and pre-kers understand the problem.DUH!!!!
i dnt think it wuz dat innapropriet. i show my cleavege all d time!!
im in 7th grade in the computer room and doing research on some recent news with class to have fun so i clicked on this topic and i think that commercials on t.v. are worse then this..... like victoria secret and all these other things... this is nothing.... AM I RIGHT?
Puritan hysteria is alive and well. Don't these people have anything better to do? Katy looked adorable. How silly of Sesame Street to cave into lunacy.
I always find it amazing that the same people who complain about government interference in their lives are always the first to ask the government to step in and censor TV, because god forbid they get involved in their children's lives. TV is not a babysitter people. Don't like it, change the channel. There's about 500 other ones to watch.
It is the mom who has 8 children, who wears a dress to her toes, and a collar to her ears, and her husband keeps her in the kitchen...
Please religious prudes go back to your convent and keep your "morals" to yourself – I would rather my son watch Katy Perry than watch Pastor Terry Jones threaten to burn a "Koran"...
Oscar isn't grouchy anymore,,,,,I wonder why he's carrying around a bottle of lotion and a towel?!?!?!?!
Elmo was completely NAKED! Nobody complained about that!
It's getting increasingly difficult to find a celebrity that is actually entirely appropriate for Sesame Street. Media and "entertainment" has pushed the boundary on what's appropriate anymore. As well, inappropriate material has been showing up in kids' shows for a long time now under the guise of entertaining an adult co-viewer. Let's face it, many kids are watching these programs alone and many parents use them as an electronic babysitter.
I'm the parent of a toddler and an educator. Although I think her outfit is inappropriate for a kids' show, I wouldn't necessarily make a huge stink about it. I would just think that her stylist needs to give their head a shake. My daughter won't be scarred for life because Katy Perry dressed a certain way nor will she really learn much from watching the segment with Elmo. It's entertainment and she's watching Elmo - not Katy. It's up to a responsible parent to teach kids about what is appropriate or not (and it seems there aren't many parents who take this job seriously anymore).
I think we need to be more concerned about the fact that many adults can't spell or use punctuation correctly. I mean, these people are often parents and will have more of a lasting effect on their kids than Katy Perry.
I cannot believe there is an issue with this...Has anyone taken a good look at Miss Piggy? Katy Perry in this video is adorable, and fully acceptable. The parents that have an issue with this are the same parents that won't let their children watch Animaniacs or any other intelligent cartoons. Find something new to complain about. You are the reasons this generations children are getting dumber and dumber.
Reread your last sentence!
I do think that was a bit much for Sesame Street, but you do see kids get exposed to worse things than boobs on tv. Flip on some of the shows on the Disney Channel nowadays...you're going to have a blast with the stuff in them.
Maybe she could've worn a clown suit, complete with big red nose, floppy shoes...etc, you get the picture. Even in her vids, she comes off as a clown, imho....
If they let her wear that outfit...I'D watch Sesame Street again!!
I don't get it. Folks getting all torqued up over her dress and yet, Sesame Street is going to have 'Snookie' from Jersey Shore on there??? I would rather have Katy in her dress than the drunk, materialistic ho Snookie.
The thought police strikes again. gee...wouldn't want a woman who did a really sweet, kid-friendly segment to be featured on a kid's show and make it relevant again, would we? Hell, CTW's trying to make Cookie Monster PC, too...saying he can't always have cookies.
Can we just PLEASE let kids be kids...see something fun and learn in the process? The lesson kids learned with this was that women should be ashamed of their bodies...and that busybody adults can do really stupid things to a kid's show. Great life lesson.
Sesame Street likely had to yank it not because they were concerned about the kids, but rather because they were concerned about the parents. It is, after all, the parents who donate to PBS and buy the merchandise. As many others have already noted, the kids for the most part woudn't have thought anything of a lady playing dressup in an outfit like that. It's "grown up clothes".
This country is so stuck up and over protective of these kids. Hey guess what, boobs are part of what make women beautiful, they ain't going away. Some little kid would not have even noticed this! It's the human body, get over it. You protect them from everything, they are going to fall on thier faces when they get out on their own.
The outfit was too revealing. Simple. The executive producer of Sesame Street is obese. More Serious.
What a joke. Censorship is alive and well. Wouldn't want children to see her as a female that has breasts, because boobs are bad for children's dirty little minds. I think they need to have all women dress like Taliban women and cover everything except their faces, so that children aren't exposed or learn about female body parts ever. We need to hide the secret that women have breasts, otherwise children at young ages will start going around looking for mommy's boobies. some peoples mentality is hilarious.
I bet she wasn't too dirty for Oscar the Grouch!! Woot!!
1 + 1 = boobies
Like preschoolers have never seen a breast!
Does it surprise anyone. Katy Perry is another product of little talent but looks good and does outrages things so she's easily marketable! No one would give her the time of day if she did not have a nice body.
I guarantee she lip-syncs all her live shows...that to me, tells me you have no true natural talent. Just like most of the music shoved down our child's throats today. Long live Rock and even Country at least they have some musical talent!
Two things: I don't see anything dirty here, but I also never heard of Katy Perry, so she'll get some advertising out of this she wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Clearly she's the winner here.
Let's learn how to spell today kiddies!
"H" – "O" : HO
"T" – "A" : "TA-TA"
THIS from the child of TWO Christian ministers? Sesame Street DID the right thing!
Most of the viewers of Sesame Street have only recently given up sucking on breasts.
I think there is far too much female flesh being shown so yes I think it was the correct thing to do. Why don't they show more male flesh such as tight Speedos more often? They also need to show more total male frontal nudity for more than a second or two (perhaps several moments) and much less nude women to even the score for all the women they have exposed.
What could possibly be more kid friendly than breasts? Who the heck are the things FOR?
That type of material is seen all over television (even on channels that are not blocked) , the beach, public family water parks, and just about any public place you go to now a days.
I think any child that watches Sesame Street is too young to even understand what the conservative parents saw as inappropriate; I do not see what the big deal is I mean she was fully clothed.
I surprised that these conservative parents let their kids watch TV at all or let them out of the house considering they are so concerned about what type of material they are watching; they should isolate them completely if that's the case.
It's OK for kids to run around naked and suck the milk out of bulbous breasts, but when you reach preschool age it's time to grow up and learn to be ashamed of the human body just as the xtian right has commanded.
If I were to guess, I'd say that about 95% of the people who are against Katy are unattractive, overweight and/or just plain jealous.
Overbearing/Helicopter parents.... When your kids burst out of that bubble you put them in– they won't be looking to you for explanations... They will know you don't have a clue.
All u people dissin on Katy, chill already. It's not even a big deal. Im a preschool teacher and I guarantee u these kids wont even notice. Get a life!
Conservative parents: when, oh, when will they all just go away? 🙁
I'd just like to say, representing the 13 and under crowd, that I'd do her
"uh oh...Elmo see Katy and want to tickle his private places"
I would have watched Sesame street a lot more growing up if there were women on the show that looked like that.
so i guess kids shouldn't go to the beach either?
It's not big deal. It's just a dress.
She was wearing a "fairy princess" outfit like they have had on kids' TV shows ever since they've had kids' TV shows. The people who got hre yanked off the air need to grow up, there is nothing wrong with her outfit or the cute segment she did.
First "Sesame Street" told Cookie Monster to dump the cookies, as they thought that they made kids fat, and before that, they got rid of the Don Music character because he banged his head on his piano and thought kids would copy it, and now they are worried about Katie Perry's boobs? I think there are far WORSE things to be concerned about – at least she wasn't Lady Ga Ga wearing meat on the set!
Seems someone out there has too much time on their hands. I do not see anything in Katy Perry’s outfit that the little kiddies aren't going to see when Mommy is on her way out the door for a night out on the town with Daddy.
So I just watched the video with my 5 year old, her response..."I love that tinkerbell costume she has on. She is so cute!"
I simply don't know how she'll grow up to be a normal productive adult now
Parents are just blowing this out of proportion. They are dumb and need to be educated. GET EDUCATED!!!!!! We instill it to our children to learn everything that they can and it seems to me that the parents are the ones that need to use logic. Remember that word, LOGIC; humand tend to react with rather than to rationalize things. LOGIC, LOGIC, LOGIC.
The 3 year olds were probably thinking that all of a sudden, it's time to eat... 😉
A double negative occurs when two forms of negation are used in the same clause.
Typically, in English when two negatives are used in one sentence the negatives are expected to cancel each other out and thus produce the affirmative.
What was that again? Never mind.
Pretty rediculous, our society is being ruled by people who are too uptight and worry about the wrong things. The moralists are over analyzing everything and taking away our freedom of choices one at a time. I find it ironic that there is so much talk about protecting the children when our schools have more discipline problems and violence than ever before. The outfit wasn't that revealing, and the remarks about Elmo running under her skirt, silly. Get your minds out of the gutter, children don't think that way. Have you forgotten that they will learn what we teach them?
Why are people blaming Perry for the outfit?? It was probably designed by the Sesame Street wardrobe staff, Perry likely had nothing to do with it.
She pick up the wrong street. She need a mental GPS
I watched this with my 2yr old daughter today and all she talked about was Oscar in the trash can and the dog when they were running, she liked the song and we watched it about 20 times....no biggie you see worse on the Disney channel
I really like her outfit and wish she was sitting on my lap right now.
How is it that just a few people always ruin it for millions of others? The video was SO innocent and quite generous of Katy Perry, who's enjoying some good fortune lately. I hate the prudes of the world (all 10 of them who keep ruining things).
SHE BE A SESAME SKREET WALKER, YO!
SHE BE A SESAME SKREET WALKER YO!
Well, if the kids won't (or can't) watch it, the daddy's certainly will.
Uh... I am pretty sure that after years of handling naked Barbie dolls that these kids are not even caring about Katy Perry's chest- just how cute elmo is doing "hot and cold." I actually think that it is a positive image because Katy Perry is a naturally beautiful girl, with large breasts and a non starved body. At least we are giving girls a positive body image instead of putting too thin or girls with plastic surgery on there- if you have an issue with this video, then you better never let your kids play with: Barbie, Skipper, Bratz dolls, watch miley cyrus, watch Lindsay lohan, watch commercials for beauty products or swimsuits and on, and on, and on..... better check yourself before you talk out your @ss!
I have more reasons than Katy Perry to not let my child watch Sesame Street. She doesn't like it anyway (she can't stand Elmo's voice), so that's great with me. Katy Perry was just another was just another of many Sesame Street attempts at socializing our kids for us and I won't let my kids be brainwashed by their agenda.
What's really sad is that everybody is blaming this on Katy Perry. Clearly the costume was provided by Sesame Street (Katy and Elmo were supposed to be playing "dress up"). It looks like a fairy costume. In any case, it's just not that revealing.
If you want to complain about something, it should be that she can't sing. Listening to the video clip on YouTube, it's painfully obvious that they ran her vocals through an Auto-Tune because she's "pitchy, dawg."
What is this Saudia Arbia? Should she be required to wear a garment over her head?
The letter of the day is T.
I didn't think the video was appealing at any level. Compared to her terrible facial expressions her outfit didn't matter.
If its such a big problem, why didn't the director or someone over the video say something about her outfit?
Perhaps we should take a moment to think about the consequences of the past thirty years of tearing down decency and standards by the secular humanists who would have us believe that nothing is sacred. This is why we are afraid of our children, because we have taught them that values and decency are a joke. The more people you can shock and upset the better. Sad. And I feel sorry for Katy Perry, she is talented but feels the need to chase after Ga(g)Ga(g).
It seems like a pretty obvious mistake- apparently the makers of SS don't understand who their audience is. It may not seem like a big deal to show some skin BUT they've got to realize that there ARE millions of people in this country that are not used to seeing so much skin on a kid's show.
give me a break !!!! there was nothing wrong with her outfit you want to know who is wrong here all these people that think Katy was dressed wrong that's who and you want to know why because they are the ones with the dirty minds if you don't say anything about the way she dressed in front of the little ones they will not know the difference for me she looked very pretty to bad for Elmo
Sesame Street has sunk to a new low. I guess there are men running the show over there and pick the most tasteless people to appear. She sings about kissing girls and is half naked on her album cover.
Why on earth then is she on Sesame Street-I'll tell you. It's because of money. It's a very sad world we live in that lacks basic morals.
The only thing the kids are going to think is... WHERE'S THE MILK?!?!?! Why do parents have to freak out, what do they think their toddlers are going to start screwing each other? give me a break.
..I thought it was awesome lol
It's just another part of the growing trend of pop culture creating a whole new generation of vapid shallow women with no real role models.
Nobody ever complained about the snuffleupaguss' long body part.
Is it me or could someone have asked her to wear a different outfit she'd fit in better with Sesame Street's principles? I'm sure if it was tactfully presented along with some outfit's Katy Perry would really go for everyone would have been a winner. I personally have no issues with her costume just as I have no issues with Bert and Ernie sleeping together in the same bed, Peppermint Patty's best friend calling her 'Sir', Jessica Rabbit, etc.
This woman is obscene. Shame on Sesame Street for even considering putting her on the show. Her outfit here was only the smaller issue.
A good question might be why Ms. Perry feel she has to dress like this for a children's show? Is she in need of the type of attention this type of outfit brings? She is a role model for our children and little girls look at her and think they need to look that way too. She should emphasize her talent, not objectify her body with an inappropriate outfit.
I saw Katy Perry for the first time on SNL last night and now I know why she has to objectify her body– she has zero talent. She looks like she is in pain when she sings!
IT'S THE PERVERTED PARENTS THAT ARE THE PROBLEM, OTHERWISE THE KIDS WOULDN'T KNOW ANY DIFFERENT. ENOUGH PEOPLE, ARE YOU OFFENDED BY FARTS TOO??
IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T WATCH IT, CHANGE THE CHANNEL, AND STOP DICTATING TO EVERYONE ELSE WHAT THEY CAN AND CAN'T WATCH BECAUSE YOU ARE A PRUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM SO SICK OF BEING DICTACTED TO BY OTHERS.
Just watched the video. Elmo running around, and a lot of primary colors is what I noticed. Katy's mouth because she is singing. I read the whole controversy before, and had to remind myself to watch Katy's boobs instead, but they weren't that interesting.
Get off my Sesame you tramp!
god we are so repressed in this country it is pathetic
Kids see more skin when they go to the mall. Seriously people. Get over it. I watched the video on youtube with my 3 year old son and all he did was laugh at Elmo.
You know what Katie... come on over to my street... I'll do you right.
Really?? I don't believe 4 and 5 year old children think like that.
...so...should we stop breast feeding because
babies might get an eyeful. GREAT CAESARS GHOST!
Over the years, as a parent, grandmother, and now great-grandmother watching Sesame Street with my children and grandchildren, I am glad that Sesame Street made the decision to not air this portion of the show. From the comments above, it looks like more grownups are watching for other reasons than to enjoy a wholesome show with their children. I thought this was a children's show! Let's keep it that way.
Way overreacting! Part of life! It's the overreacting to s e x which produces the hang-ups. To those dogging on Sesame Street: it's a great show which taught me a lot. I guess it's passe to teach reading, simple math, spelling and kindness.
I thought Miss Piggy picked out Miss Katy's outfit. Shoot, I thought Miss Piggy was Miss Katy's permanent and daily stylist! And that she helped build the set for the "California Gurls" video.
While in In Afghanistan, I noticed that the Taliban imposes a dress code on women. I guess that's coming to America next.
Do something goof for America: ship a prudy soccer mom (or that Dave Ramsey jerk) to Afghanistan today!
That Elmo is one luck Muppet.
I don't suppose that we will see an "Arouse Me Elmo" for Christmas, though.
Funny...Katy Perry has good music but like all bimbos thinks she has to air hump every guy in site in her videos and show her boobs and her crotch..... Hey Katy...dare to be different....get some class and wear some clothes instead of being a cheap looking ho!!
I agreeee!
i dont think kids willl be paying attention to katy perrys boobs, because they dont even noe her, and they wont be focusing on her but on elmo and the song
parents are over the top
Kids love boobs its nature we get milk from there. I don't see a problem.
You have adults assigned their values to what kids are watching!! The kids don't see anything wrong unless the parents make it an issue.....Barbie is by far more indecent and seductive than Katie!
Sesame Street is brought to you by the letters T and A.
Katy is cute in the video.
my favorite comment on here – lmao!!
WHY COMPLAIN ABOUT KATY PERRY...DOESN'T MISS PIGGY DRESS WORSE THAN THAT.....YES SHE DOES..... LITTLE KIDS ARE NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE CLOTHING..ONLY THE ADULTS..........AGAIN..MISS PIGGY DRESSES MUCH WORSE THAN KATY.....
hmmmmm,by looking at the pic of her, lol, she resembles one of those blow-me-up $#@!-me-dolls...just sayin'. lol
I think it's an ADORABLE and TOTALLY FUN video!
Playing tag, running, dressing-up, singing, etc.. We so called "adults" need to get our mind out of the gutter. Come on, wake-up people! Remember your childhood and learn to be a kid, and let our kids be kids!
We seem to have no problem exposing our children to crap like JERRY SPRINGER talks shows and EXTREME VIOLENCE each and every day! And the thousands of BEER, VIAGRA, and FAST-FOOD COMMERCIALS our kids see every year!
Give me a break!
I think they probably want their celebrity guests covered from head to toe like the pennsylvania Dutch.
Hey, be lucky she even speaks English! Sesame Street used to be a wholesome show before they diluted it with frivolous demographics just to appeal globally. Her breasts are about the last issue that needs to be taken up with that show.
BTW- Sesame Street is loving this. They are going to get a ton of publicity for this decision. Even if its a little bad that they thought about subjecting kids to this skit, they will still come out winners.
Whew, not a blonde.
Ha! good one
eeew. Disgusting.
there are two commercials that i found were a bit / cant find the word/ too audacious. one was with Burger King when one of the little boys kicks the King. that i found it was outrageous. what are we teaching our children today. the other one which I was shocked was the Early Preganacy Test where the spokesperson said it is / cant really recall the words/ but more or less said it was the happiest test you ever pied (dont know the spelling, i am french) on. these commercials are no longer on / no wonder/ definitely of no taste and discretion. if only i can be on the payroll, i would send them all to hell!!!!!
Please....this is so stupid and crazy. I am sure a majority of the parents who are againist this are letting their kids or will let their kids play with toy guns and toy knives. They will let them watch violent TV shows and won't care if the reenact the scenes with their friends. Of all the things that would harm them to see, a young woman showing her body off isnt the worst thing. Alof the kids watching are llittle girls and will grow up to have a body very similar to hers. It's not the end of the world here.....It's a cute skit and a nice song parody of one of her big music hits. If they didnt want their kids to watch, they can change the channel. Apparently, technology has hurt these people because TVs used to have knobs on them to change the channels. Two knobs, one to turn it on and off and the other changes the channel.....obviously these people could use some experience with something with two knobs on it.
this has got to be a joke. someone needs to slap whomever complained and force them to watch some pr0n.
yeah, this would have been a non-issue until adults got involved. no way my daughter would have known that outfit was "over-the-top"... come on people.
The video is just too cute. How could anyone except a right wing christian object?
This is so stupid. Let me tell you something folks. If your 5 year old son is sitting there and thinking to himself "Man, she's got some huge t!ts".....................then the problem is you, not sesame street.
I think that the video is adorable. It's the overly stuffy mothers who are raising their eyebrow over this and (once again) making an issue out of nothing. Find something else to moan about, this is harmless!
The fact is that we as a culture have made provocative dress at a young age acceptable so those who see her outfit as no big deal are the same parents who let their little girls wear unappropriate dress at a young age. Its very unappropriate for her to dress that way on a preschooler show!...She needs to show some class sometimes and put some clothes on...and believe me I am for people dressing the way they want but there is a time and place.
it's INAPPROPRIATE to think that unappropriate is a word.
OK... As a mother of a 5 year old, and a fan of Katy Perry... I agree she was too revealing. I expected her to be wearing somewhat provocative clothing as that is her style of clothing... but c'mon if your target audience is of a preschool age group I think she could have found something that went up about 5 more inches... I am by no means a christian soccer mom and for the most part am all for children not being over sheltered. but this is a little too much. Katy Perry has a very nice body and by all means has every right to show it off but not when your looking like your gunna fall out of your top in front of 5 y/o's. maybe if she had worn a scarf or something it would be better. but seriously there are certain places to be wearing certain outfits and just because your a celebrity doesn't give you the right to dress the same everywhere you go there is a certain amount of decency and respect expected from all. her parents are pastors for cryin out loud she knows better! I don't dress up the same to see grandparents or go to parent teacher conferences as I would when I am going out or having drinks with friends... no matter how proud of myself I am... sadly I would be one of the parents who said absolutely not. unless you are a parent and have children whom you want to teach a certain amount of self respect to I don't think your qualified to judge those who are. I will continue to support Katy Perry and I hope she can make another appearance on sesame street but hopefully a LITTLE more covered up... and just to add quickly, Katy Perry has every bit of say in her costume as does her wardrobe designer NOT sesame street producers... c'mon people...
Come on, would it hurt her to wear something more approriate for a kids show? She looks like she's going out to a club and I'm no prude, she could get naked in my house for all I care, just wish people had more common sense this days. If this is approriate then where do we draw the line next? Maybe a meat dress would be appropriate too.
Betty Boop...anyone?
Boop opie doop!!!
An Elmo Like Katy Haiku for All:
Seducing Elmo.
A Sesame Street Walker
in a mini skirt!
I think she dresses this way so as not to let uc catch on to the fact she's not very talented. I mean as someone said look at Sara Bareilles, she has the #1 and she doesn't feel the need to dress skimpy. Not that anything is wrong with skimply but its in poor taste on a children's program. I think that's the point you people seem to be missing. It doesn't take a righwing Evangelical Christian to see that either.
Just wanted to say to parents of 7 yr olds still watching Sesame Street that is pitiful. The show is aimed at preschoolers with the age range normally ending at 5. And for some 3 if the child goes to a Head Start preschool. Breasts are a part of the human body. If you feel it is inappropriate you have the right to turn off your television or use it as a teaching tool to tell your children not to dress like that and your reasons why they shouldn't. Many children will be exposed to more provocative clothing just walking down the street in the summer months or going swimming. I don't feel it's appropriate to choose for someone else what they allow their children to watch.
it would be different if she actually looked good...why do her b00bs look so saggy?? get a bra katy.
She can wear that on my street if she wants.
Patrick Stewart still holds the record for best appearance in his "B or not a B" moment.
Everyone get a life.
I agree with someone above – THE KIDS DIDNOT NOTICE!!!!!!!!!!!
Oscar the grouch did not appreciate this, not one freaking bit!
Especially when he said T*ts or GTFO, and Katy delivered.
Now Oscar just had a sad.
The mouth-breathing stupidity on here is tremendous. Do you not think that Sesame Workshop decided what Katy's wardrobe would be? Are you truly that mouth-breathingly stupid to think Katy chose her own costume here?
Hopefully those who complained never take their children to the pool, beach, grocery store, school, or the mall. No wonder we have such dysfunctional children. It is no small wonder the average American is the laughing stock of the world and our children need tutoring after they graduate from high school just to function in society.
I think what she's wearing is inappropriate. Sesame Street is a great child's program and guests of the show should wear clothes appropriate for that genre. I wonder what HR would say if a woman wore this to work?
America as much as we have progressed we still have a long way to go. Kids today see much more than what she"exposed" at home. Go to Wally World any day of the week and see much more than that. I imagine this was the"Moral Majority",who are the same one's who bring you pedophilia in churches, bigotry among the preaching..Grow Up America, they are called Breasts, every woman has them, and they are not going to magically disappear from your kids view just because you have a hang up.
wow i am appalled with all these comments true, that our country has gone more to teh point of modesty. Here is another reason most people are blinded . There are lines that we do not cross, by the way to make some point here most kids can remember alot of stuff when they are younger. I can still remember alot of stuff. but back to the point what these celebrities are not thinking straight with their roles. Most Kids and teenagers look up to them without even knowing not to long ago at our local street dance i saw 10 – 12 years grinding on each other and i dont even dance like that and im 18. With the years we are going right now we are going to lose our self repect and what not. It's rather sicking when ppl just think not stupid, but unrational thoughts. I agree that they should have some of newer music to play but you could also do the oldies too. There is nothing wrong with teh generation of music. TO the matter is that how are teh newer generation will act? Too prodoctive? Too mousy? Too smart? etc.
@WOW really? you need some english classes. Please come back when you can spell "THE" correctly.
Right On 1AppleAhAh
From a average Sesame Street viewers point of view.
GOT MILK?
Oh and by the way That was WADE talking in the prior comment not Ginger of course..I just thought I might need to add that,ANd yes Ginger was my high school sweet heart she only weighed like 89 pounds in high school.we have been married for almost 20yrs now with two yeah two chllen,But guess what she only weighes in at a cool 115 pounds today...Gee I love my wife....
89 pounds? What is she? Three feet tall? And no, I am not a couch potato cow, I am a 5"10 140 lb Woman, you know, a tall and REAL woman. But have fun with your nasty azz comments, you don't sound like such a prize yourself....you sound completely mean and bitter in your posts.........for no reason at all.......bet you aren't even "man enough" to show your three foot tall wife what you wrote, either! LOL!
I'd like to introduce her Snuffleupagus to my Big Bird
hahahahahahahahahahaha
While I don't agree that the video was inappropriate for children – I DO believe they were correct in yanking it...but only because Katy Perry is spectacularly annoying...
Perhaps now, oh yes, now, this harlot shalt feel the shame of the righteous.
Nothing makes a conservative crankier than Sesame Street: they think educational progamming is commie, they think Bert & Ernie are gay, and now they're horrified by a freaking prom dress.
I'm sure Ms. Perry is emotionally devastated, and I would like to offer her my condolences, a shoulder to cry on, and a drink. Call me, Katy. 😉
Here we go again with the silly bellowing of the what I have always called the curse of the dreaded fat and mad at the world stay at home mother cows!!! You remember guys those girls back in high school that we would have all given our right knad just to have people see her talk to you one on one. That after high school they married the quarterback of the football team,And after pumping out a bus load of chillen and as luck would have it never shed that 100 pounds of baby fat due to sitting at home all day watching The Young And The Restless eating super size bags of Lays Potato chips with dip of course. Oh not to mention drinking from the two liter bottle of Coca Cola. Now that all of this bad stuff has happened to them,And especially after she found out that the love of her life was boning the 18 year old cheerleader slash baby sitter, that reminded him of his wife from way back in 1988,and now she almost weighs 1988 lbs. She has got to vent her frustrations out on some thing or some body,And who better than Katy Perry wit her fine self!!!! YEAH I SAID IT!! SHE IS ONE FINE SPECIMEN,,,And I think she would fit in just great with the rest of the Sesame Street Gang..So just shut up all you Fat and MAD at the world Couch potato's...I don't mean to offend anyone, but if I did I was only telling the COLD HARD TRUTH!!!
but we were supposed to ignore all the years of innuendo and flirting aimed at Kermit byt Miss Piggy ? I for one am shocked .......yeah not really.......
By pointing it out, more was made of her outfit than what would have normally been noticed by kids
just found a new desktop background!
Amen Lauren! well said. There are more pressing concerns, as with most things that all of us get uptight about.
Well at least Katy Perry didn't do California Girls for Sesame Street 😉
Elmo should be banned too...I don't see ANY clothes on him.
We can all rest a little easier knowing they have finally put a stop to this obscene display. If alert viewers hadn't caught this obscenity flipping channels between their tea party rallies and fox news, even more children might have become aware that women have breasts.
Ok,
When o When will Parents Start Being Parents... If you have an issue with it, turn off the TV and interact with your kids! You should be watching what your kids watch anyway so you know what they are seeing and watching. Otherwise your using the TV for a babysitter, and one whose content you cannot possibly censor without some intervention on your part.
How much trouble would it be for soccor mom USA to simply change the channel when that segment comes on if she finds it offensive, or God forbid, talk to they're kids about why that is inappropriate, it will get your point accross to the child in a much more effective manner, and allow parents who do not fear the human body, to allow they're kids to watch what they deem appropriate.
Freedom of speech is aimed at the FREEDOM of Speech, not the censorship of what one small group might deem inappropriate.
I love canada too.
Puhlease! You see more revealing outfits on women jogging around the neighborhood, at the beach, the pool, the park, etc. It isn't like this was a Timberlake/Jackson Superbowl Halftime-like video. Plus, knowing my two girls, they'd be jumping around watching it since they've already heard the song on those kids bop CDs or whatever they're called.
First Saturday Night Live and now Sesame Streets.
Both have sold out and good riddance.
At least SNL is not sucking money off the public the way Sesame Street is. What a bunch of idiots. What's next, Steven Tyler?
Sesame Street's MISS PIGGY... outfits, image, chasing Kermit.... what about Sesame Street's own muppet and how 'she' is portrayed?? Katie was perfectly fine in her dress...
Shows what YOU know- which isn't much.
Miss Piggy was NEVER on Sesame Street, she was on The Muppent Show. The Muppet Show was geared toward the entire family.
Do these parents keep they're kids in a cave? That's what people wear. God help the kids of the parents that complained! Let's start a campaign to release the Cave Children!!!!!
Katy Perry can't sing at all but she has a nice figure so she has to use it. I've caught 5 live performances on various shows and she was horrible and gasping for breath throughout each number each and every time. She can write a catchy ditty but she should let others sing it. Sadly, though, she wants to be the driver, so to speak, so she has to dress like this in order to get noticed. It's Sesame Street. Of course she knew this outfit was in poor taste. She wore it just so she'd get attention. And KP, the number one CD is by Sara Bareilles. Talent rules.
Well I say if you don't like it. Just change the channel to sponge bob and friends or put in one of your own family tapes. And leave switzerland alone, pete...it is a beautiful country.
When I was a little boy I couldn't wait Captain Kangaroo to come on in the morning....I thought Mr Greenjeans was HOT!
It is something for the Dad's to look at while they tolerate the show for their kids.
I'm not horrified by it, but knowing the tradition of the show, if I had been the costume designer I would most definitely have picked something that didn't look like so cheap and self serving.
I think legally for children on tv it is a no go ...
When my kids were young, they would have noticed Elmo with a lady dressed like Tinkerbell; that’s all. I’m dismayed that Sesame Street is bowing to right-wing, evangelical Christian interests and pulling a very cute, happy video that its target demographic would enjoy. What the heck has happened over at the CTW?
How clever. Educational songs for the kids, and a little meat for the dad. Great marketing.
Why did they get as far as they did with it before checking the reaction her outfit would have? I'm assuming the Sesame Street people costumed her, and they really could have picked something else, something less flashy. And if, for some reason, it was Ms. Perry's own outfit, she should have had the common sense to go for something a little less skimpy, just on general principle. *I* don't think what she was wearing was any worse than what kids see on TV and in movies and on the streets these days, but I can see how some conservative parents might have an issue with it.
It's really not prudish at all to wonder why a woman feels a need to wear a bustier on a children's show. If Katy Perry feels that's all she has to offer that's on her. And calm down guys, her breasts really aren't special. I consider her a tab bit better looking than Lady Gaga and not even on the level of most pop stars, in looks that is.
Fortunately, children don't see the world through the same addled mindset of adults who have spent years in puritanical delusion.
She needs to go get her head checked at a mental hospital. Lol
Hahahahahahaha. Thanks for the laughs, people.
So are we going after Miss Piggy next?
Looks like Katy's about to give Elmo a motorboat...
Elmo, Grover, cookie monster and bigbird is showing all there furs and feathers and no one has complained about them. lol..I dont see anything wrong with the dress. If they had aired it no one would have noticed it.
She be look like a Sesame Skreet Walker! I done herd Da Count offer her 20 dollahs for a hour!
Where are all the feminists screaming about a woman being exploited for her body?
Heyy america !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just wanted to say hi and i love you all bye
The last thing we want our children to learn is that women have breasts.
They gots weenees to!!
I could care less about what she wore on the show. I would think females would be more concerned that women like Katy Perry keep furthering the idea that a woman's body is all she has and outside of that nothing else matters. It's created a whole generation of women that have no self confidence and advertise their bodies in front of mirrors at any moment they can. I love it as a guy but you ladies really keep doing a disservice to yourselves going with the current status quo. Do we really wonder why so many women are crazy? They are basically forced to hate living in their own skin if they are outside of a certain group of criteria. Also to any person saying Katy Perry can sing, her voice is so autotuned it's often robotic and I assure even you would sound good if you give me a half hour in the studio "tuning" your voice.
Smartest post on here.....you are absolutley correct on all counts.
Guess why women feel that way about their bodies? I believe it would be called MEN!
100% agree. I would far rather see a happy woman than a thin woman, and most guys out there are with me on that. Women are obsessed with body image to match media images and to show up other women – it's not to please guys. Guys are pleased with a smiling, happy, real woman, not with an unrealistic media image.
I am sorry I guess I am not as sophisticated as some on this obviously are. But, I think it might be nice when considering preschool kids that we just let them be kids and it is not overly prudish to ask that someone not wear a bustier and wedding veil. And, at the risk of being labeled something like a Christian fundamentalist by people who don't know me, do we need Kary Perry, Madona, or the like on a kids show at all?
I'm sorry but it's got to be all the white ladies sitting home with nothing better to do, white people complain about anything! lil jealous? I'm sure not one of the children watching noticed until bored housewife opened up her pie hole!
Whatever! She's the reason why that I started to watch Sesame Street again!
This is a no-brainer. Children notice boobs. Babies make think of breast feeding but not 7 year olds. The issue isn't jealousy...I really don't care but common sense says it might be a good idea to dress modestly when going on a children's program. I have big boobs. But I'm not going to come to my daughter's class in a lowcut top on a career day, it's just not appropriate. I think we really need to think about someone who for some reason seems to think if her boobs aren't showing her voice isn't as good...She's not even hot so I really don't get why people think moms would be jealous. I guess cause she's older than me and seems somewhat plain...like average white girl. Not unattractive just average with a nice body...like any girl I pass by everyday.
Once again, the Puritans have nothing better to do with their time. They're breasts, for God's sake! All the Sesame Street characters have them and so do all the kids and grown-ups who watch the show.
The point is was it really necessary for SS? Do we need to teach kids that young to dress like a wh0re? They'll get plenty of that as teenagers.
she's welcome on my street any time!!!
Wow I can't believe how sensitive and ridiculous some people are,! Get some thicker skin, seriously. Kids aren't going to be paying attention to what she's wearing, they just want to hear the songs and watch the cartoon! Too many whiny crybaby parents in this country, get a life and get over it.
cmon Katty Perry on Sesame street? Like her or not as an adult she's sk@nky at best.
This is truly ridiculous. Have we become so sensitive that this innocent video sparks controversy? It seems that some people work hard to be offended. Why do we cater to the outspoken minority? I suggest that this video is like an inkblot and the people that see something dirty ought to think about why that is.
PLEASE! Her outfit is not any more offensive than Wonder Woman's costume. This is a b.s. controversy. There is nothing wrong with the clip.
Wonder Women was on Sesame Street?
No Bob. The story about cocaine is one page over. This is about Katy Perry on Sesame Street.
This episode brought to you by the letters "T" and "A" and the number 10.
I don't see what all the fuss is about. They're just dirty pillows.
Today's number is 2. Let me point to Ms. Perry's breasts and count......1.........2.........muahh ha haaaaaa!!!!!
To all those who are going off on the conservative mommies for not liking Katy Perry's outfit, there are...well they aren't mommies because no man would ever touch them but on the other side women censors too, two words, "Double Down"!
My child would notice. This is not a part of life a pre schooler should be exposed to. Pun intended. She is a real person, not a puppet, though some may disagree. The entire show is fake and is nothing but propaganda. So glad my kids never liked it.
To all the mom's worried that their darling little baby boys might actually look at Katy Perry's breasts, well, be thankful they're staight and want to look at Katy Perry's breasts.
wats gucci yall. i think that kate perry is very hot with that outfit on. If the parent would stop looking at the bad side of her, there wouldnt be a problem.
with all due respect, Sophy, america is a nation of idiots. how else did the Tea Party start?
and if people reply to this comment with 'Obama', it'll just prove my point.
those people are man. Let her do what she do. sesame street is ok.
Amabo
i think it was just right...
turn your damn tv off and get your kids to bed if you don't like her. For me she's hot, those boobs....geezz at least they are real flesh. No plastic here.
I just showed it on youtube to my 16 month old Grandson...He loved the Music...he loved the running...HE loves Elmo...her freakin' dress was no where near inappropriate!! Ridiculous. She super cute,,,the song is super cute,,,and it should be shown on the night it was scheduled to be on.
She shouldv'e wore her Bildeburger outfit it would have been the bomb.....
tinker bell is a cartoon .....alex wright and sheez not a real person and i agree though but still shes not real
wat up jahnita you ugly'
Did anybody notice that Elmo wasn't wearing anything?!
LOL!
Best post! Heheheeeeeeeee
elmo is not suppose to b wearing anything he is a puppet and do you dress your cat or your fish or your dog up... i can understand dog but cat and fish im in seventh grade at my school typing this right now and i know that this is not right so people just leave the subject alone its not that serious
go back to learning fractions kid and leave matters like this to people who've actually been through puberty and have breasts
Get Real-Kids will not care or notice and even if they do so what? This is part of life.
It could be worse. They could have Lady Gaga on the show wearing a dress made of muppets!
Bronski me Katy please
Here is the perfect solution. Turn the stupid TV off. Everything on is just California propaganda about how everyone should live a hippie lifestyle. Mother Nature I am still waiting for Arizona Bay!!!
I could care less about what she's wearing, but do we have to expose preschoolers to that kind of pop-crap music? How about someone with a little more substance & class? No wonder our kids grow up to think there's nothing more important than Kim Kardashian and "Teen Mom"! America is becoming a nation of idiots.
I take it you've never watched Sesame Street. She didn't sing a "pop-crap" song, she was singing a Sesame Street song, along with a Sesame Street character, about the difference between hot and cold. I'm assuming, of course, that you actually know how to read and read the article before you posted your ridiculous rant.
Eh, I don't care really. This could have been avoided if S.S, K.P, or wardrobe or whoever had her not show so much. I think Katy is always prancing about showing off her boobs, and good on her, except Sesame Street isn't the place for it. We all get it, big boobs. However, think about it: you don't wear crap like that to work, to the dentist, to the grocery store, to chaperone a filed trip. It's not us being "insecure" or "needing a life" its the fine line of what you wear out with Friends on New YEars Eve and at dinner with Grandma.
That is exactly how I feel about it too but obviously, based on most of these posts, we are the minority. Sad.
I can't believe that this many people read this blog.
I have a crusty sock puppet that Katy can play with any day! Regardless, how is her outfit any worse that seeing Hanna Montana grinding on pole, and giving lap dances to 40 year old men? Americans are way too judgemental yet claim to be the land of the free. Us Canadians would use the moment to teach our kids that her outfit isn't how regular day to day people dress. America has more scarier outfits walking down their streets. Are you going to tell everybody downtown to wear less revealing clothes?
All anyone has to do is watch the "California Gurls" video to know that Katy Perry isn't a good match for Sesame Street! Come ON, the woman had whipped cream spewing from her tatas.
I saw the entire video and Ms. Perry is very cute and innocent in the video with Elmo. Go back to your soaps you up tight helicopter moms!
You people need to get with the program. Here in america we teach our young males to objectify women at an early age. I'm all for little boys and girls starting at boobies all day long it couldn't possibly hurt them.
Her attire is fine. I'd be more concerned about exposing my children to her obvious lack of talent.
Now that's about the best answer yet!
Daddy thristy!!!!
These are my lovers:

What do ya'll think?
I bet they breath smell like cat food!
there is nothing wrong with the outfit katy wore....breasts are out there and it should be something kids know about that girls get breasts and boys dont......cuz after all in a few years girls will be stuffing there shirts with socks and sutch to see what they look like on them. i see alot of kids shows worse then this.....after all dont we want to teach our kids about whats happing with there bodys and by 4 they should know what breasts are......hello ppl relax and take a chill pill
I wasn't sure how I felt at first. Then, while reading this article, my 22 month old daughter walked up and looked at the monitor, pointed at Katy Perry, and said "oh, nake." (she says "nake" when she means naked).
Well your daughter's an idiot then because she's obviously not naked
What a total line of BS. You don't even have a kid, do you? Moron!
Chad Smith: Yeah, our lyrics are like our children, man. No way.
Krusty the Clown: Well, okay, but here where it says, "What I got you gotta get and put it in ya," how about just, "What I'd like is I'd like to hug and kiss ya."
Flea: Wow. That's much better.
I bought her CD for my 10 year old daughter last weekend. I am giving serious thought to throwing it into the middle of the street. I read the lyrics, particularly one song about *Show me your C*ck*. She's not a good role model I am figuring out. I don't care what the heck she is wearing, that's not got much to do with it. I'm all about self-expression and first amendment rights, but I do not want my kids running around the house singing about c*ck..............or at school for that matter.
Inappropriate. Sesame Street is lame and passe'.
""You can practically see her [expletive],""
I think the person who made this complaint is more concerned about their own insecurities regarding women than anything their kid is seeing.
I am 46 and have no children but when I was a kid Charo was everywhere and I think I remember that she flashed much more than Katy Perry!
Oh come on. It might be inappropriate for pre-teens, but preschoolers remember breast feeding and thing a little breast showing is just like mommy.
I gotta go with Sesame Street on this one. I am pretty liberal thinking and happen to like Katy but she could've toned it down for the kids. Come on Katy, use your Noggin!!
I don't think it would be that much to ask if she wore a less revealing dress. I wouldn't let my preschool children listen to her music, why have her on sesame street at all? I can't wait to see what YOUR kids will look like as teens for all those who think indecency is ok. This is a prime example of moral decay in our culture.
WHAT ABOUT THE CACTUS???
Was not the cactus a bit suggestive too?
This says more about the people complaining than the program...
vivien are you kidding me? she is not embarrassed and neither are her parents or her publicist. AND NEITHER WAS SESAME STREET. Its because people like you!!! I wonder why?
Hey, great strategy for getting parents involved in their kids TV watching...at least dads. I'm pretty sure if the Cookie Monster had a time-out with Katy, he wouldn't be so grouchy.
OMG. REALLY? I have a 3-year-old and have NO problem with this video. Are you KIDDING me? I feel bad for these parents' kids - they're going to suck all the fun out of their kids' lives.
replying to just one thought.....have you ever been to the beach with your young kids? do you tell your kids to turn their heads because so woman is showing a little more than the other. Is Katy applying for a job on Sesame Street? I dont get it
actually I just became a parent a matter of months ago and no, no beach trip yet. And no, I don't plan on covering eyes when we do go. I was merely saying that as people dress accordingly for job interviews, Katy (or whoever is in charge of telling her how she should look) should consider the audience of said show, and think about dressing for it. Or at least be prepared for a reaction like this because there are people who would be offended greatly (there always are about anything). That's all.
So I guess these Moms covered up their children's eyes when they breast fed them too right? Lighten up people, the children aren't looking at her anyways, they're looking at Elmo and listening to the song.
I cannot believe the comments on this – she had no business wearing such a costume for a kids show. I guess she needs people to look at her instead of listening to her – I'm embarrassed for her, her publicist and her parents.
Blithering idiot number 2 heard from. Did your mother drop you on your head when you were a baby?
I'm 22, have no kids, and am merely a student in college. Seriously, the only reason breasts have such negative view in the first place is due to the overly conservative, dirty minds of the adults. Kids don't care. Parents, how about you worry about other things. Your children will learn, see, and do so many things you don't know about no matter what. Censorship, and restrictions start young, and lead to rebelliousness once they move out!! There really needs to be a regime change in parenting. It's 2010, not 1950.
22 and childless.
Your opinion doesn't count until you have walked the walk because as of now, you're all talk. See you in 20 years!!!!!
jojo says we as a society are "clueless sheep" !! what are you a fat cow?
let the kids watch....and have a sudden urge to regress back to breast feeding....I would!
I think this whole argument (and it's kind of ridiculous that it's even gotten to this length) centers around the idea of parents doing what they think is best for their kids. Everyone is different, especially here in America, and we will always have different values. As someone who just became a parent for the first time, I can say that when my child grows up, I'm sure there will be times when I say "I don't think that's appropriate" for a certain age, whereas other parents might not and that's okay with me. I'm not going to smother my child but I also have no intention of exposing them to so much as so early of an age. The issue here is that, just like when the majority of people go to a job interview or situation like that, they dress accordingly. You can argue either way that Katy might have covered up a little more or that some people need to loosen up, but the real issue is that parents have the right and responsibility to help their children grow up the best way they can and not over-expose them to anything before they think they are ready (like pop stars, violent programs or any number of different and controversial topics). Just don't get down on people who are in general trying their best to help their children grow up to be happy, healthy kids. At least they care enough to try.
Once again some haters would have to come in an be judgemental! You go katy!! Well they need to understand that were not in the 80's anymore!! Get real people! What your upset cause she wasn't in a white t-shirt an over sized overalls like gloria estafan? People need to get a life! An it's parents like that that make there kids a bunch of whiners an teach them that it's okay to be a big crybaby about life! Lord forbid my kids end up friends with theirs.
"we're not in the 80's anymore"? LOL! You don't know how HILARIOUS that sounds.......in some ways the 80's were actually WORSE than it is today, and those of us who REALLY lived the 80's, know what I am talking about.....LOL!!!! See you around the corner sweetheart, when some dumb kid starts talking about how TAME the 2010's were! LMFAO!!!
If you look closely at the video in question (and I looked VERY closely), you will see that her costume has a (caucasian) flesh-colored top. Like figure-skaters, you are see fabric, not her boobage.
Not that bad on her but would you want your daughter to wear that? Kids learn what is cool by watching others.
Perhaps this video will entice teenagers to start watching Sesame Street & actually learn how to spell words again, like the ones in the dictionary. Instead of their new language of LOL, BFF, BRB etc.
Perhaps this video would also teach teenagers how to write a sentence without Spell Check....
Ridiculous. What is the different in this and the "Elmo in Grouchland" dvd with Vanessa Williams. I hate to tell these people but if that’s too much for your kids then you better lock them in their bedrooms.
Grow Up.
I watched the video. It was cute and not offensive at all.
Wearing a skimpy skin tight outfit while on a kids show I think is just an excercise in bad taste, not obscene. If parents don't like it use it as a teachable moment and move on.
You nailed it Amy. Those of us that know this to be ridiculouse aren't prudes at all! It's a matter of taste and CLASS. There is a time and place for EVERYTHING and quite frankly, most people expect better quality from Sesame Street. But alas, the masses are clueless idiots and just do not get it!
I agree!! MOST people are clueless...There IS a time & a place for everything!! And C'MON...WHY wear an outfit exposing your t i t s on a CHILDREN'S show?? Those that say we're either "fat, frumpy, perverts (LOL at that one), or uptight" are IGNORANT and have no class!! I feel that we have more depth to our character than these neanderthals...
Margaret White: I can see your dirty pillows. Everyone will.
Carrie: Breasts, Mama. They're called breasts, and every woman has them.
Can't believe their are still people in this country that are so prudish. This outfit is no big deal, not the slightest. I guess the people who called keep their kids away from the beach and swimming pools too? God forbid their kid see's what a woman is shaped like.
I'd like to hear how they can clean up that song for kids.
is it just me or does she look kinda pregnant in that pic, actually, quite pregnant
She can tickle my elmo anytime.
Too bad one didn't fall out : )
I'd hit it.
I already did, last night, at a Holiday Inn Express.
Oh my lord. We're going to scream and holler about this? Really? So what's next then. Are these parents going to block the release of the new "Tinkerbell" movie, or demand CENSORED bars across our favourite princess (one of whom ran around in a seashell BRA for heaven sakes!), or better yet are they going to take TV away altogether. I'm sure we all remember growing up with such amazing programming as She-Ra: Mistress of Power...no clothes there. Or better yet how many times were there cute references to panties, crotch etc. in such classic fare as "The Breakfast Club" or "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Parents are way too sensitive...boobs do not corrupt your children, inattention corrupts your children. Give your heads a shake!
Ferris & Breakfast Club are not in the same realm of Sesame Street. Epic fail.
I just farted!! Just sayin...
Amazing........ME TOO!!!!
so immature and im in the seventh grade hope ur in the third at least cause that was very raw.... im fun @ times and that kinda made me laugh lolx but buhh byeeee
Katy Perry is trash. Sesame Street has shown some lack of judgement. Sesame Street should have picked her outfit before hand. This is an issue raised by ultra conservatives? The divorce rate is at 52%, 66% of marriages have infidelities, the proof is in the pudding, children are more messed up than ever, why? Because you clueless sheep have no idea on how to raise children, and what's best for children. If you want to see T and A rent a p0rn.
Another blithering idiot heard from. Did your parents have any kids that lived?
Are you really that stupid? Sesame Street PROVIDED her outfit. Do you really think that she showed up for the shoot wearing a fairy costume?
"Boob crack" That's funny.
We been living in Switzerland for the past year (just recently returned to the USA) and over there, no one thinks twice about swimming nude in the city run public swimming pools. Kids don't care, they don't even notice. I'm ashamed of being an American when we are perverted by these "values" that are foisted on us by religious prudes.
Universal Rule and Cosmic Law.
More boobs are better.
My kids probably wouldn't notice what she's wearing. However, it's Sesame Street. Hopefully kids are learning what is appropriate behavior by watching this show. I don't think the "dress up" outfit gives an appropriate example of how young adults should dress and present themselves. So while my kids aren't paying attention, they're filing it away in their brains as this is how a fun girl dresses. Uh-no.
Uh, hello? The point of the video is that she thought they were going to play "dress-up", not tag! I don't know about your kids, but when my kids play dress-up, they're not putting on suits and ties or classic pearls and sensible shoes. They are putting on wild and outlandish outfits with as many pieces as they can squeeze on their little bodies–leotards covered by skirts and jackets and beads and feather boas and sunglassess, etc. Being a kid is about having fun and being silly. They'll be forced to conform to social norms for acceptable appearance soon enough.
What a bunch of pruds. Go to any beach and you will see much more of the human body than on tv. While the coverage could have been more, I have much less.
This is what's wrong with this pathetic country we live in...This is so ridiculous !!! Its her problem because she has big breasts!! What do you want her to wear? Sesame Street should of aired it and they caved in to the so called society of jealous moms who seemed they can rule this country. Shame on Sesame Street and Katy should tell time to go &*^% off !!
She should've gone naked and gotten doubled by Bert and Ernie. Show kids what real life is like.
Dude...don't you know that Bert and Ernie are gay? Seriously? Where have you been?
When my oldest one was little, Sesame Street had Ellen on right after she announced she was gay. They seem to make a point of bringing on controversial people. That, and the fact that it's set in a ghetto and seems to have an agenda was a turn off. Like most other parents, we moved on to Playhouse Disney and Nick Jr. PBS was pretty irrelevant by that time.
oh really? so now a new york street is the ghetto? since when are a collection of brownstones and a clean street represent the "ghetto"? the fact you made such a statement showcases ignorance and isues that run deeper than katies breasts which for some reason you want to lock up and throw away as if they hurt someone. Is it really so horrible to dress as tinkerbell in an imagnary setting? if so then dont go out for halloween you will be absolutely mortified.
Oh, I see, you prefer lots of materialistic advertising to "a ghetto" (please, could you be any dimmer?) and boobs. Frankly, your post gives me the creeps. My kids don't particularly care about boobs, other than a certain fondness left over from nursing. That said, I do wonder why Ms. Perry couldn't find a dress that actually fit her – this one's just too small. But that's more of a fashion issue.
We are the country of prudes, that's for sure. Boobs exist people (SHOCK!) and some women have big ones. Truly, this is frightening to some invididuals?
This calls for revenge..!!! Now I want Elmo to appear on Playboy TV...
Get a life. We are a nation of perverts pretending to be puritans. Why is it that it's a big deal to show a little skin, but we expose kids to all sorts of violence without much thought?
Seriously....are you serious?
Come on...kids don't care what she is wearing. It is a cute video and good song that kids would like. And if they had a problem with the dress they should have said something BEFORE they filmed it.
When kids see this, they're only going to think one thing. Lunch.
Did anyone ask Elmoe how he felt about her dress? I'm sure he WOOD and did love it.
They should've known that Katy Perry's boobs come with her. All I'm gonna say.
I'm curious how a parent who would write "You can practically see her [expletive]," would be taken seriously when they say they're offended? Hmmm.....
Sounds like some out of shape mommies sitting on their big post-pregnancy butts are a bit jealous and have no other avenue to still pull a power trip over a good looking lady other than to whine and cry between a mouthful of BonBons.
That sounds pretty judgemental of you. in fact, compared to parents who shimply don't want their kids seeing boobs, i'd say your denigration of complete strangers makes you worse than either Katy or the parents.
WHY you say–does it have to be out of shape moms that only think that it's inappropriate??? I'm in great shape, I'm childless...but I thought it was inappropriate!! Geezus...some of you liberals are sooo narrow minded and ignorant!!
What is wrong with what she is wearing? Who cares? Kids see worse on the street or at a store. Just because she is famous people want to bash her name. I dont see everyone elses name in here that wears worse reveiling clothes.
Well, considering her song, "I Kissed A Girl" (and she liked it!) maybe she's trying to pick up some hot mommas.
Keep trash off TV......ie Katy Perry
No, we really need to keep the trash off of the CNN Blog. i,e, LSP
My wife and I agree that the complaints are really from jealous flat-chested moms. Our kids would never notice anything, except the baby might get thirsty. Americans need to grow up.
as a fellow seattleite born and raised here i am in full agreement with you. nuff said.
Katy has gone from retro glam to a trainwreck almost overnight. She keeps doing these ridiculous antics that get posted over the web or on tv. Just get married and drop out of the scene, already......Sick and tired of yet another pop female star looking stupid....
It seems parents don't have anything better to do then ruin someones reputation, like everbody says kids aren't going to notice the rack mom probably found out dad tivo'd that episode lol
Why not just throw a burka on her? That should do the trick. Douch-y helicopter parents. Sheesh!
A bunch of ugly overweight mons are the only people upset over this. Bigger things to worry about in this world folks, get a life.
Im not ugly, overweight, or a mom, so you're wrong.
My thoughts exactly. Uptight, frumpy mothers making a big deal out of nothing.
LOL! Maybe YOU don't think your ugly or overweight, but I would bet 15 bucks others thought you were either one or both 🙁
Oh the horror! What's next, breast feeding in public?
The outfit was for the Dad watching... yum – me, yummy.
The outfit was for the Dad watching... yummy.
Ridiculous. The video is awesome and there is nothing risque. Shame on Sesame Street for pulling the plug for a minority of parents. They could have photo editted the outfit and moved ahead with the adorable concept. With all of the negative role models out there, it is a shame parents have to become hyper-sensitive to the extent that they create problems where none exist. Use your energy to lobby for tougher legislation for child abusers. That would be a more fitting use of these 'concerned" parents time and effort.
There's a group of people who got comfortable in this country because they thought they would forever be" in power" as the majority. I love the change that you haven't realised yet. It is with great pleasure I inform you that you are no longer the majority OR in power.
Well, my son, for one would notice and he's only 7. He's noticed the mom's dressed like club ho's there to pick up their kids and tells me, "I'm glad you don't wear shirts that show your boob crack." Kids DO notice whether it's subconscious or not. I'm not jealous. I'm not ripping on Katie's talent or lack of. It's simple: Sesame Street is a kids' show. Katie has unlimited opportunities to dress as a vamp, so why do so on Sesame Street? For this one time, why couldn't she dress normal? It seems to me that rather than attempting to cast shame or guilt on those that are offended by her attire implies we are insecure. We're not the ones wearing a bustier` on a preschoolers' show, so who is the insecure one?
Seems your son learned his 'opinion' from somewhere. Unless perhaps you are of a burka mindset.
Frankly, I don't think the woman in the photo has much to show off. I mean, seriously - she's not wearing anything provocative. She's hardly 'hot'. And I've never heard of her until now, so I've no idea if she has any talent. My favorite singer on the 'Street' has been Norah Jones - THAT was a good performance.
Seven is way too old to be watching Sesame Street. If your kid still is, he needs to stop. The intended target audience for Sesame Street is pre-school or younger. And why is your seven-year-old talking to you about boobs? That seems pretty inappropriate.
Parents absentmindedly shovel sugar into theirs kids mouth via diet ignorance. High fructose corn syrup in everything. GMOs in their food. Growth hormones in the milk. Lather their hair with chemicals in the shampoo. Poison them with fluoride. Inject them with aluminum and formaldehyde in their vaccinations. The list goes on, yet somehow, Perry's boobs are the big problem. Welcome to the neo conservative republican world where the bible is good and the body is dirty.
Dave, Thank you !
Don't you people realize that parents watch this show too. And parents don't want to see this young womens physical attributes. As a NON-parent I can see their point. It appears that this women is only thinking about her career and nothing else.
As a parent of a 2 1/2-year old I can say that personally I would LOVE to see this young woman's physical attributes... but that's not what's being shown in her bit w/ Elmo. Sesame St. has always had on singers and performers who were popular at the time, and weren't doing it solely as a means to further their careers: Katy Perry is hip, trendy, and can actually sing, which is one way they can get older children to watch and pay attention.
If a teacher showed up to her preschool class wearing that same outfit, all of you would be screaming to fire her. Seriously Katy, how hard would it be to wear something modest for an hour of your life?
You see, Randy gets it. He's probably a parent.
and exactly how hard WOULD it have been to raise that plunging neckline up from her sternum. There is a scene where she's running after Elmo and her boobs are jiggling around ridiculously-don't tell me kids don't notice that stuff. How did the Sesame street staff not notice that?
If she was a teacher? BUT SHE'S NOT and its a SHOW ON TV and she's a pop star. Should the Little Mermaid be banned as well?
Yes...put burka on her !
But she is only shown for just 2-3 mins. Plus it looks more like a green ballerina outfit to me. Truth be told, she could have wore something less revealing, but I wouldn't care if my kid saw it either way. At least so long as the lyrics stayed G to PG.
The issue isn't her clothes. The issue, with the parents, is the body behind the clothes. Isn't it funny how how everything in TV, movies and magazines is geared toward women being thin, beautiful and big breasted. Then, when someone fits those "attributes" people want to get offended. This is a joke.
OHMYGODBREASTS!! DIRTYFILTHYNASTYMILKPILLOWS! VILE VILE FILTHY NASTY HORRORJUGS!
you had me laughing until HORRORJUGS. Really? Where'd that come from?
Our puritanical forefathers...
I think I want to have that tattooed across my horrorjugs!
I am dying laughing!!!
Preschoolers seeing Perry's decolettage will think "feeding time".
She is HOT! I don't mean COLD!
You know, you really have self esteem issues if you can't put a shirt on to do a Sesame Street appearance, I mean, seriously........
Ok Katy, we all have seen your big b00bs. It isn't anything none of us has never seen before, you can go away now!
Self esteem issues? What if she just really likes her knockers? I'd be flaunting those bad boys, too.
Has anyone seen what they had Vanessa Williams wearing during the Elmo goes to Grouchland Video.... It was way worse than this considering she has posed nude in the past.
I personally think she should have worn less, like they do in Europe, Asia, and South an Central America. Women using the fact that they are women to garner attention happens. big deal. in other news, the sun is warm, and water is wet.
Geez! It's not like she had a Janet Jackson moment. I grew up watching Sesame Street. I barely noticed the humans on the show. I was fixated on the muppets. For my daughter, it was all about Elmo. Kids don't notice what anyone is wearing. Sesame Street has always worked little things into the show to entertain the parents. Maybe the complaining moms are complaining because their husbands were enjoying the "entertainment".
All I want to know is, did she Kiss a Muppet and Like it?
come on now guys i dont understand why anyone would care about this children barbies wear less clothing so just drop it
Drop the clothes? Now that would be educational television!
It was probably the first time Oscar the Grouch was happy.
He dented his trashcan from the inside out!
The people complaining about this have never seen Latin american children's shows on the Spanish channels. Sometimes I find myself watching and I'm not a kid and can't understand a word they say. What did Charo used to say – cuchi, cuchi?
Mark, parents like you are why I wish our great nation required a license to have children. You're embarrassing.
whats so terrible...u consertavises are the reasons your kids rebel at a later age. nothing wrong about it. let your kids some a good looking woman, your boys will like her and not be gay, the girls will want to look like her...its a good thing
wow, what a hot, steamy pile of $h!t article. WHO CARES
And yet here you are wasting your amazingly valuable time on it. Huh.
katy perry should be allowed to be on tv on sesame street for christ's sake
Speaking as the mother of a 5 year old boy and a 3 year old girl who is extremly picky about what their children watches, I have only this to say to any parents offended by this video. Lighten the hell up!
Well said!!
I have a 3 and a 5 year old. both girls. they notice more than I think they do. Parents are the ones that are blind if they dont believe this, not the kids. Yes kids have seen it before, and i am not going to freak out at every little thing they, and neither should people who feel different than I, so dont freak out that sesame street pulled it either. It's ok to have boundries, yours may be different than you neighbors. But who's to say who's right?
We must protect our precious snowflakes from the real world!
Right? When did we get so prudish?
But just think how the kids' faces must have lit up when she sang "I Kissed a Girl"...
She didn't, what article are YOU reading?
You've got to be kidding me! Kids couldn't care less, its the adults who obviously have the problem.
Besides, most of these kids are just a few years post-breast feeding years; see her probably brings back good memories 🙂
LOL
That is exactly what I was thinking. I would also add that the adults could be naked on the show and the kids would still be more interested in Elmo. Grown ups are boring and tell you not to do stuff. Don't you remember?
You mean Good Mammaries
As will most issues like this, the only possible way the kids would notice anything other than Elmo in this video is because of all ot the adults screaming and yelling about it. Just like the Super Bowl mele, kids wouldn't have noticed a thing if adults would have rolled their eyes and kept their mouths shut.
Ok Katie you have a nice rack! Everybody knows already so why not tone it down a bit for Sesame Street? Better yet let's end this charade and get yourself into playboy.
All cartoons and puppets were dressed the same. Difference she is a person and to teach children modesty it needs to start with the all characters, stars, parents, teachers etc. We all need to start practicing what we preach instead of do as I say not as I do. Morals have escaped so many, how can we get them back?
I dont think there is nothing wrong withwhat katy is wearing. in fact when the show aires. i will be watching sesame street for the first time in 25 years.
While watching the show, maybe you could spend a little time learning basic grammar as well.
Unfortunately the segment will not air on public TV, as mentioned in the article.
A double negative? I think they do grammar lesson every Thursday.....that's the Fifth (today's letter is F) 5(and today's number is 5) day from the left on the calender if you start with Sunday. (by the way, tomorrow's letter will be S)
John – It was a double negative.
Hell I liked the suit. I too believe that we shy away form the bodies natural beauty or make it a bad thing. It is not a bad thing at all. However, I do not think that it is appropriate to be rated TV-Y. Some poor child might think it's time to feed! LOL
Maybe having Katy would help dads spend some more time with their kids... Daddy likes Steet too!
wat does steet mean?
This reminds me of having a 50 year old mom who will search your room and throw away your playboys at 16 but still wont remember to shut the door when they are changing.I think its some oedipal jealousy these women have
um that really sounds more like YOU have some oedipal issues going on ....creepy
HAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAA! That comment just made my day. Still hysterical. Thank you!
Electra complex
it looks like a dress from the 50's. hardly provocative. are we supposed to pretend that women don't have breasts? My kids are teens now, but this dress would not have bothered me when they were little.
Your teenager kids have bigger problems if they are still watching Sesame Street.. LOL
Isn't this less than talented sack of hot airs 15 minutes of shame over yet? Here is a performer who could garner no such success with her music so goes the lezploitation with I kissed a girl. I mean come on what a simple, stupid way to appeal to all the terestrial bubble gum radio listeners. I could absolutely care less if she is on sesame street or whatever. I control what my children watch, plain and simple. If I don't want them to watch it they will not. It would just be nice if sesame street would let real musicians perform more often instead of in my opinion, less than trailer trash, jerry springer starlets such as perry perform!
I'm not going to go so far as to call her "trailer trash," but I agree with the sentiment that more truly talented musicians need to be exposed to kids on Sesame Street instead of yet another pop star. Kids are already bombarded with that stuff everywhere else. Sesame Street is about growing your mind with stuff you haven't seen or heard before. What about Wayne Shorter, or one of the Marsalis brothers? Victor Wooten? Lonnie White? Mark Knopfler? Hello? Is this thing on?
You're the reason some species eat their young. I pity your poor, misguided kids.
You mean you could NOT care less.
I agree with the comment that what she was wearing was no worse than how Disney dressed Tinkerbell.
Arrr I am old and hate pop music! And get off the lawn too while you're at it!
Wow.... your comment shows a basic lack of understanding of everything. What is a "real musician?" I think it's, you know, a successful one (like Katy Perry.) Who do you suggest? The Eagles? This isn't the 70s anymore. Katy Perry is music. This is what pop music is now. Get over it.
i think you should.
Someone has a rather vehement Katy issue. Personally, I'm delighted that Sesame Workshop and Katy's PR machine got together to mold a [very] popular pop song into a learning op for kids. I agree that it's unfortunate they didn't realize the wardrobe issue. But, honestly, Mark.... you're coming across as a tool.
I've heard her sing live in a studio, and this chick can sing! She's a better live singer than Taylor Swift, and a lot of other pop stars who can't hit a real note.
Katy Perry does NOT need to compromise herself to placate ultra conservatives. Everyone who does not agree with the position that Sesame Street took should contact them – otherwise, the vocal minority gets their way. Something that is happening too often these days.
Oh puhhhhlease
Show me dem tatas
You have to be stupid to think that kids don't notice. They don't precieve things like an adult, but they sure as heck remember them.
Parents absolutely have the right to complain whether you think they are a prude or not is not their problem. Being a free country doesn't mean people should take on the values of the lowest degenerates just because it is "ultra-conservative" or confrontation to not.
Arrogance is a two way street, and I am as free to voice my opinion as anyone else....
Ultraconservatives. I'm a liberal and no I'm no prude. I'm only 28 years old but even I think that outfit is inappropriate for a children's show!
@reason: just because YOU don't agree with it doesn't mean it shouldn't air. It's called parental choice. If it offends you don't let YOUR kids watch it. Don't ruin it for the rest of us with your ultra conservative bs. YOU are the minority, and therefore should NOT be catered to. Plain and simple. When I was a kid, if my parents found something on tv or movies they didn't want me to see, they told me to turn it off, or go away, etc. In fact I think we should deny ultra cons tv service period, as all you do is complain about violence, and blood and nudity. It's called Hollywood people, wake up and stop being so prudish.
Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street? ...
All I can say is Tickle Me Elmo.... and has anybody thought for a second whether this might not be a publicity stunt from Katy Perry's camp? The producers at SS and KP's people knew what was going down from day one, and suddenly it's too hot to play in Peoria? Controversy keeps careers hot! (Even Elmo's!)
Take SR16 North from Tacoma, in Gorst change to SR3, then SR303. Get off SR303 at Newberry Hill Rd. (Silverdale). Turn left (West) and drive about 5 miles. Sesame Street will be on your right.
Look at Jessica rabbit from the who framed roger rabbit movie she was smokin and i remember all to well hot momma also look at the little mermaid she was half naked please people
Seems like the real boob here might be Mommy.
Thats nearly identical to tinkerbells costume. Its just a dress up kind of princessy outfit. Sheesh
That's exactly what I thought! I don't understand the huge uproar over this. I understand that Tinkerbell is animated (like Ariel and other Disney princesses) but it looks to be what she was going for here.
Miss Piggy wore worse.
She was also a cloth puppet. A little different.
oh god roooo, i think he knows that, it was a joke smart one
I agree with the basic sentiment of the above comments (that kids wouldn't even notice), but come on. Could Perry seriously not see this helicopter-mommy backlash coming a mile away? She could have picked a costume that would go over well with all audiences but still expressed her "Katy-ness."
@Budgie That is not Perry's issue – that's the production manager and costume designer's issue. Don't think she gets to wear what she wants on television – ultimately, that responsibility lies with the Sesame Street production company.
Come on is right......I mean, what......the kids never seen Mommy in a swimsuit or a bra? For crying out loud people....get a life!!!
Just to clarify... I am not attacking Katy Perry at all. You will see that I characterize those who got this clip removed from the air as "helicopter mommies." I take Katy's side in this. I just think that Sesame Street's costume department should have known they'd have whiny prudes complaining and dressed Katy accordingly.
The problem here is Katy Perry's narcissism. She actually thinks she is the hottest thing out there and quite frankly it takes a bit more than revealing clothing to make one hot.
She is very plain in looks and figure. She is not overly attractive in any way yet she decides that she has got "it" and therefore must show "it" off.
If she were actually able to show off her brains THAT would make her a little more attractive at least.
In this case she showed simply she has none (brains).
totally agree...duh! she missed out on her chance to have the very young recognize her and then maybe carry over into record sales later in life.
@Selma – you couldn't be more wrong...I do agree with you about SS's producer "dictating" what to wear to noobs – but when you're a "star" – you call the shots...I assure you. She most likely gave them a very limited amount of time to do the shoot...showed up late...expected everyone to hurry up for her (even though they were most likely waiting around for her) – and get her DONE...if she didn't like an outfit...she won't wear it. She has a "brand" she must nurture – and her agent knows that, too...and that brand calls for clothing like what she's wearing in that video.....full stop.
First off, if you think a performer on a TV show picks their own wardrobe, you are the one who is not thinking very hard. There are people whose whole job is picking out clothing for the people you see on TV. She doesn't do her own hair or makeup either.
Secondly, how does a pop singer on a childrens program, dress to show her brains? She's there to smile and sing a catchy song with a simple cheerful tune about hot and cold. She could wear a t-shirt with math equations on it, but it wouldn't film well and the audience can't read anyway.
Preschoolers don't remember what they had for lunch two hours ago, let alone what somebody on Sesame Street wore. Some parents are ridiculous.
hahahaha that is very much true <-(doesnt make sense) hahahahahahaa
amen to that cause im in seventh grade and i cant remember if i ate breakfast this morning or not...................>>>>>>>>>>> shame
Lol exactly, preschoolers can't even remember what they ate for lunch. It's ridiculous how prude and just generally retarded parents can be. Not like there hasn't been other kid show characters that wear risqué outfits. People need to take a chill pill and step into the 21st century. 🙂
LOL exactly. I dont even remember watching sesame street that much. Yet I watched it every day!!
Kids dont even notice it. Its the older people who have been exposed to dirty things who do 😉
I totally agree! And I have a 4 year-old in pre-school...my 1 year old is at home and does watch SS...give me a break...her outfit was (I'll admit) a little risque – but my 4-year old didn't notice...Big deal...calm down folks! It'll all be over soon.
Are you serious? If preschoolers don't remember anything, then why do we waste time teaching them anything? They won't remember anyway, right? Very early on, kids start to assimilate their surroundings. If you subject them to women who wear almost nothing, they will grow up thinking that this is "normal". If you don't agree, look at the slide of the morals in this country. Do you really think this happened all of a sudden. No. Little by little the line is crossed. Everyone is doing it, so it seems "normal", and after all, it is "not that bad". When you are comfortable with that, the line is pushed a little more.
When I was growing up, it would have been unthinkable to walk through the mall and see the stuff you see at Victoria's Secret, for instance, much less see the clothing (or lack thereof) being worn. But these days, no one seems to think twice about it.
Is it really unreasonable to expect that there would be something, some TV show or something, that could actually hold the line on this stuff and say, "sorry, that is too much; we are not doing it."?
Oh please. When I was watching Sesame Street as a kid in the 80s I wasn't paying attention to anything that anyone was wearing or what they looked like. That includes the busty Polly Darton puppet they had. I was just listening to the fun songs. As long as Katy edited the lyrics to describe the difference between hot and cold (which is pretty much what every guest performer does on Sesame Street- Gloria Estefan's 1-2-3 being just one example) I don't think that outfit is terribly over the top.
The outfit not being over the top is exactly the issue they had!
Seems like it might be prudy mommy that has the dirty little mind here.
look at tinker ball she wears busty top and noone said anything i dont think nothing was wrong with it either.
maximusvad: It is NOT only in the US is the human body a bad thing. There are many conservative and religious people, in OTHER countries, that do not want their children exposed to what they deem inappropriate.
While I, myself, do not consider her outfit inappropriate, others do and I would respect their views.
I agree. I can remember so many times starring at Maria's chest, or looking at some part of the female guest. This is making something out of nothing. Now if Elmo would have motor boated her.....
Keep Katy get a new wardrobe stylist. Her expressive face should go over well with the toddlers.
Why does the risqué dress have to be such an issue, taken out of the equation eliminates the conversation. What is the big deal, wear something that won't explode on television or make a youngster thirsty for lunch and we can move on to the next BS issue.
Only in America is the body a bad thing? Have you heard of the burka?! And it's not really about her body, it is about little girls thinking they have to look like that to be beautiful.
why is that parents who want to monitor what their kids are watching cant change the channel or turn the TV off? it's pathetic to see what a bunch of whiny babies we have become here in the US
The letter of the day is S for Schwing!
Not if the word of the day was boobs
Let's bring back the good ol' wholesome days of Buggs Bunny in drag.
it makes me really upset that a woman has to hide her body completely in order to fulfill the wishes and desires of ultra-conservative parents. believe it or not, adult women have breasts. that's not what kids are looking at– they're happy just to see a dancing elmo.
parents need to stop acting like kids will be scarred for life by these sorts of non-issues.
I agree completely. Unfortunately there is a small group of "censors" who can't get their own minds out of the gutter and make the most noise. They can find something objectional in Disney cartoons, Bob square pants, etc, etc. I think the networks are gutless. I remember taking my 9 yo to James Bond movies. All he saw was the action and gadgetry. These people are not looking at these things from a childs eyes. They need to lighten up.
Thanks to Katy's outfit, Elmo is now being treated for an erection lasting more than four hours.
This is is the start if we continue with all the political correctness that has hit our society. If something remotely offends someone or 'could' offend them then it isn't acceptable. Time to grow up a little. If you don't like it don't let your kids watch it. Pathetic.
The article did say many parents were unhappy because her outfit was not sufficiently over her/the top.
The kids who watch this show are well a where of what the function of a breast is since most of them were breast feed a few years earlier. This country really needs to get over ourselves.
I agree. I watched it in the 70's and all I did was sing along and learn to count!
I smell a publicity stunt! She would have been supplied with a costume by none other than the wardrobe department at Children's Television Workshop. Then they got some negative comments from the YouTube test video, and it's a media hit for them and for Perry.
She can be a guest on Pearl Street! Oh what a coincidence that's where I live.
I like it as she looks like one of those blow up dolls! Very nice!
I remember in the 70's an episode with Maria wearing a dress and nipping out. Didn't think much of it.
I applaud Seasame Street and their decision to not show the Katy Perry clip with Elmo! Seasame St. is a child's show and should remain one what is wrong with that. AJ, you being a male maybe would not be as impressed upon like a female child could be while watching something like skimpy dressed girl characters. I am a female and watching shows like that as a child (yep even at 5) with the female characters in skimpy outfits did leave an impression with me and I would want to mimic those outfits, but at my young age would be inappropriate for me. Those type of characters always left an impression on me and I think as a child when you are watching shows made for the age group you shouldn't have to worry about those things. AJ, I also understand that the little mermaid showed some racy outfits too, but let's remember Ariel was a cartoon character.
