Kanye talks filmmaking, his career and his egoIn one year, Kanye West has played the role of both the villain and the comeback kid, but now the music superstar is ready to assume another one: filmmaker. Aside from his rather rousing dedication performance to Taylor Swift at the MTV VMAs, West also released a short preview for his forthcoming film, “Runaway,” during Sunday night's pre-show. In an interview with New York Magazine at a Rodarte fashion show, West explained that the flick will be a 40-minute visual that will accompany his new album. In the short clip, viewers see images of deer in a forest, a dancing ballerina and a woman with wings. The clip concludes with a silhouette of West carrying the body of a woman as he walks away from a fiery explosion.
There were probably some folks left scratching their heads after watching the preview, but West offered NY Mag something of an explanation. “It’s the story of a phoenix fallen to Earth, and I make her my girlfriend, and people discriminate against her and eventually she has to burn herself alive and go back to her world,” he said. West added that he draws a direct correlation between the story of the phoenix and his most recent rise, fall and then rise again in the world of music. “I’ve been feeling the idea of the phoenix. It’s been in my heart for a while. It’s maybe parallel to my career. I threw a Molotov cocktail on my career last year, in a way, and I had to come back as a better person.” While the jury is still out on whether West has been forgiven, he insists there is a difference between the artist on stage and the guy who checks out fashion shows without an entourage. “Onstage, it’s crazy, I can be fully expressive there. And then in real life I can chill out a little,” he said. As for the ego? “There’s no such thing as an alter ego for me,” West said. “I am the ego."

I have tried to understand Kanye's music as I am not into rap music (I have listened to a couple of his CD's) and It is just not my type of music. I also do not care for Taylor Swift's music. In regard to Kanye's behavior at last years VMA's, well, you can behave like a horses a** no matter what your race is so let's not pin a racial argument to it.

I believe in America. I believe that this is the greatest country in the world. Every single one of us here have opportunitys that other nations could only dream of. But look at what we have become. It truly breaks my heart to see us arguing over such silly things. This country more than any other should look to our past and remember what it took to get to where we are now. The comments on this blog are filled with hate,anger and ignorance. And for what? To talk bad about a man who in some peoples eyes made a mistake. Walking up to a stage to make a comment whether good or bad about this young lady should never have gotten this sort of reaction. The people who are still angry I would advise you to ignore his albums that come out, the articles, videos, tv intervies, etc. This would hurt him so much more than an angry, hate filled comment. Why? Money. You all have the power to decide this mans fate. I myself will continue to buy his albums, go to his concerts, etc as I have done for many years. Why? Because I am human and I have made many mistakes in my life, probably more than most. I refuse to believe that what has been written these past two days shows who we truly are. We are all great. And I think that in knowing this we all let our pride and ego get in the way of learning from one another. Whether you are black, white, christian, jewish or muslim. A lover of Hip Hop, rock, pop, r&b, jazz, the blues or country music. Even if you LOVE or HATE a man from the south side of Chicago who makes fresh beats and occasionally spits a few raw rhymes! Lets come together and learn to embrace our differences and LOVE one another. Because in the end isnt that all we have?
I have seen Kanye perform live on several TV shows, award shows, etc. and he sounds like crap every time. Sure anyone can produce a great album using technology to make them sound better. The true test of a good musician/singer is how they sound live. And frankly he sounds like crap when he performs live. He should concentrate on the things that he does do well – producing, finding new talent,etc. You are NOT all that and a bag o' chips Kanye – get over yourself!
