Mickey Rooney on hanging with Hollywood's A-list

He ruled the box office in the 1930s and now 88-year-old Mickey Rooney is back on Hollywood's A-list.

The big-screen legend, who mingled with silver-screen stars like Judy Garland and Cary Grant in his heyday, says that he and wife Jan now pal around with the likes of  Brangelina and Tomkat.

Rooney, who still acts and performs in nightclubs, told the New York Post: "Jan and I know Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. My wife Jan sang at Anthony Hopkins’ wedding — and who walks up and talks to me but Tom Cruise? A real gentleman."

The former vaudevillian added that he and buddy Ben Stiller might be teaming up again for another installment of the "A Night at the Museum" comedy franchise.

"We’re talking about my coming back for the third one," Rooney said. "Ben Stiller appeared in a pilot for a reality show that Jan and I recently shot. So did Pat Boone. And I just wrapped a movie with Ernest Borgnine called 'Night Club.'"

Though he's busier than most actors half his age, Rooney has no plans to slow down anytime soon. "I always say, “Don’t retire — inspire," Rooney told the Post. "You’ve got to keep people working."

At one time Mickey Rooney was the highest paid and highest grossing actor on the planet. He dated and sometimes married the most beautiful women in the world. His Andy Hardy series was big box office along with many of his movies with Judy Garland.

What made him so loved is that he was appreciative and gracious about his fame and success, and never took it for granted. The GREAT Mickey Rooney.

I think you're on to something, LRoy. Heck! If flat-footed Buzz Auldrin could be on DWTS, so should Mickey Rooney. I'd vote for him.

Now HE should be on Dancing with the Stars! I think he'd do quite well...if the old ticker can handle it.
