What's the buzz on 'Dancing with the Stars'

Last night ABC revealed the new cast of "Dancing with the Stars" and you've had plenty to say about it on the blog today, with the overwhelming majority weighing on this season's most controversial contestant, Bristol Plain. Marquee commenter Michael said, "Bristol Palin? For real? How is she a 'star?' This show seriously needs to change its name..."

Elsewhere around the web, "Dancing" remains a trending topic, so we've taken a snapshot of the #DWTS conversation happening on Twitter.

Why is it that DWTS can put on Palins daughter but not Melanie Griffith who really is a star. Who really wants to see Bristol Palin anyway. She's not a star people!

Its funny because the biggest star is The Situation. Lmao. Bristol is NOT a star, and not many people even know who Margaret Cho is. The women DWTS chose are horrible choices....but I will be excited to see who Mike Sorrentino will be paired with and how he'll take criticism.

This season of dwts is terrible. Maybe the producers want a reason to be cancelled. And obviously the term star is being used extremely loosely

The choice of men for DWTS is so-so. The choice of women is horrible. Seriously, Bristol Palin? DWTS – please explain how she is a star. She needs to be home with her son, working and supporting him. I completely disagree with ABC on this.

Get serious...those kids make way more money than DWTS can afford. Also ABC would loose the older viewers who watch and who they advertise for. I personally wouldn't watch...Twilight ruined the image of vampires. True Blood, now those are some vamps.

Let's see–Tucker Carlson, then Tom Delay. Now, Bristol Palin. I guess ABC is sending a message about its political philosophy and viewership. I shall NO LONGER watch "Dancing with the Stars." Next thing, they will have Newt Gingrich and Glenn Beck doing the Argentine Tango together. Too bad, ABC. We were loyal viewers, but you give these lunatic Right Wing hacks air time they don't deserve.

I think you and your kind should go blog on prop 8. Dancing and immoral rights are the only things your kind believe to have an opinion on...

Ah but Newt and Beck would never be caught dancing together...remember they are against that kind of thing.

I have to admit a pretty strange list of people to be on Dancing with the Stars- and I am with the others- when did Bristol Palin become a star??? This season I will probably be rooting for Jennifer Grey- I already know she can dance- after all she danced with the best in Dirty Dancing (Patrick Swayze)!!! I like Florence Henderson too- just not too sure at how she will be at dancing- although Florence does seem graceful enough!!!

I love dancing I don't care who dances, but I have to say it will be sad to see Jennifer Grey dance in a way because I am excepting to see Patrick there cheering her on I can't believe it would be a year ago on the 14th of this month since his passing. I wonder if she is doing it in honor of him

Unless one of these "stars" turns into a ringer I won't be watching this season. Not one of them interest me long enough to tune in each week.

Forget Bristol – I'll still watch but I hope silly Sarah is not in the audience. I just wished they would get rid of Brooke Burke. I like Brooke but she is not right for this show. They should've got that gal from E Entertainment channel. I can't remember her name but she co-hosts a show with Ryan Seacrest.

Okay....I am a big fan of DWTS, but I am really not excited about this season. First let me start off say Joe you are so correct.....WHO IS BRISTOL PALIN!??!?!!? I thought the show is called "Dancing With The Stars"...she is no star. She is a media junkie just like her mother. Only a couple of them are really stars. This may be the lowest rate season for DWTS this yr.

The "Situation" is going to be all over Bristol.. Can you imagine Sarah running for President in 2012 and Bristol has one in the over from the "Situation" while Sarah's spouting all about 'family values'. Classic

I'm excited to see Jennifer Grey- who looks fab at 50. I loved the movie Dirty Dancing! Florence Henderson will be fun to watch- the Brady mom! Also, Margaret Cho- she should be funny to watch. For the guys, I think David Hasselhoff might be fun too. Even if he's bombed!
I agree with the Bristol Palin- she's no star! At least the Levi Johnston rumors weren't true- we don't have to watch him!

Ohhhhhh I disagree- I think if DWTS had Levi Johnston on competeing against Bristol Palin- that would have pushe ratings through the ceiling!!! Everybody would watch just to see who was better Bristol or Levi!!! Somehow I am thinking Levi would be the better dancer!!!

I'm with you Joe. Role model for teens? You've got to be kidding me. She's a joke just like her mother.

"I'm very happy to see Brisol Palin participate on DTWS. She is different because she is supporting a cause she feels is important to teenagers who may have a hard time dealing with teen pregnancy"

She gets knocked up at 16, blabbers about abstinance that she failed to adhere to, then abandons her illigitimate spawn to participate in a reality show. She is almost as stupid as her mother. Great role model. Nice job DWTS, you have now set the bar so low that anyone can participate. Who's next, Susan Smith?

So being an unwed teen mother is qualification for being a "Star". I've never watched the show, but had to comment when I found out about Miss Palin being a Star. Out of all the knocked up teenagers, what makes her different?

    August 31, 2010 at 2:47 pm | Report abuse |
    • Mikaela

well david, what's different about bristol palin than any other un wed teenage mother is she has a full time job and attends college and wants to make a good life for herself. Most un-wed teenage mothers live off the state and take the path of least resistance.

@Mikaela ... She must be going to clown college if she has time to do this show, take care of her kid and apparently have a full time job. Please get your head out of the sand.

they need to have better celebrities, you need to ask Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Anniston, somebody that can dance. This is going to be boring

Jennifer Lopez and Aniston have careers which is why they don't need to be on this show. Although I can see both of them ending up here in a few years if their movie careers don't pick up.
