Will Forte leaves 'Saturday Night Live'

The time has come to say farewell to Will Forte, “Saturday Night Live” fans – the actor has announced that he won't be returning to NBC’s late-night sketch comedy show as it enters its 36th season this fall.

“After eight great seasons, Will has made the decision to move on from SNL to pursue new opportunities,” Forte’s rep said. “He is eternally grateful to Lorne and all of the incredible people he worked with over the years.”

Forte came into the "SNL" fold in 2002, creating a variety of memorable characters, not in the least MacGruber, whose story was turned into a feature film and released in May.

NBC hasn’t issued an official statement, and the NYTimes reports that the network has declined to comment on any potential newbies coming on, as deals are expected to close after Labor Day. "SNL's" new season kicks off September 25 at 11:30 p.m.

    Modern closets can be built into the walls of the house during construction so that they take up no apparent space in the bedroom, or they can be a large, free-standing piece of furniture designed for clothing storage, in which case they are often called a wardrobe or armoire. Closets are often built under stairs, thereby using awkward space that would otherwise go unused.;

    All the best to you

What the hell is up with all of the SNL hatred?

Like, seriously. SNL is hilarious, and if those of you who hate it would get your heads out of your asses for two minutes, to watch the show nowadays, you'd realize that it's the best! Up yours, haters.

It's funny how people say SNL hasn't been funny in a decade, but a decade ago people said the same thing and the decade before that. I think people grow attached to a certain cast, and any new cast never lives up to that previous standard. I grew up as a kid watching Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Dana Carvey, Kevin Nealon.........and this bunch of rejects since, with the exception of Will Ferrell, have never lived up. To me, anyways.

SNL has been a real drag for 10+ years. Now, if the show had writers like Mike, who proposed:
"the funniest thing to happen to that show would be to bring a large wood chipper on stage and throw the "comedians" in one at a time and use the spout to paint pictures on the wall behind them as they are ground up" Now THAT I would tune in to see!
One idea – Perhaps if they dug up Chris Farley and danced his corpse around like a puppet while David Spade sang a dirge? Hey, Farley's still more talented now than the current actors/comedians.

What's wrong with SNL? This: One of the original writers for SNL said in an interview that they used to write material just to be funny and then the cast would perform it. Then things changed with the cult of personality. The writers starting writing for the cast members' performances, not just to be funny. The cast members aren't funny because parts are written for their personalities and they don't have to really perform or improvise. The original cast members were great improvisational comics.

You guys do realize that this is a normal contract procedure for an SNL cast member. Depending on the level of contract, typically after 8 seasons that cast member does a movie and then leaves and still has a commitment to doing 2 more movies that Lorne Michaels is involved with. Some people succeed and most don't, either way some SNL contracts include a 3 movie deal. Ever notice all the really bad movies with SNL cast members?

And let's not be jerks, we all know SNL is still on and it's the best it has been since the 90's. Not saying it's better...just saying it has its moments.

I love him and will miss him. Lived for the MacGruber bits - the show with Richard Dean Anderson was hilarious. Also loved his other characters– the idiot ESPN type anchor - anytime he got on a lounge-type stage to sing some stupid song with Kristin Wiig, - also hilarious. Did not see the movie b/c I couldn't imagine sustaining MacGruber for 90 minutes. I hope whatever he does, he's successful;. A very talented guy.

I'm sorry, maybe it's my age (40) but SNL is long past it's prime. The skits haven't been funny in since the days of Akroyd, Beleushi, Chase and Murray. In fact, they're downright lazy, most of the time trying to make us laugh at the intentionally mundane, pointless and mostly stupid bits. I can't stand to sit through half an hour of this show let alone one hour. When will it be cancelled????

The reoccurring problem with SNL is Lorne Michaels. He cannibalizes his "good" casts to make horrible movies. Look on wikipedia SNL movies have steadily lost money incrementally. Will Forte is just the latest to leave with delusions of becoming a big movie star.

I quit watching SNL several years ago. For those who think that SNL is still funny, it's probably because you don't have anything to compare the show to. I quit watching about 10 years ago. I got tired of watching skits without any punch lines. I, too, got tired of all the whiney characters. I wish NBC would take the show off when some of us can still remember what a great show it once was. However, I doubt if the network would relinquish the time slot.

OK already, SNL will never live up to its early year cast / casts, but come-on SNL has its ups and downs, and not EVERY single skit will be hilarious. Of course, Weekend Update is always great !
Jeezh people, SNL is on, and will remain on because it is funny, has a good musical performance every-now-and-then, and NBC doesn't have anything better to replace it.... Oh, there I go, I also fell for critizing the show 🙁

My first thought is whether Lorne Michaels forced him out like he did with Chris Parnell. And to the person who referred to Forte as "Chris Kattan 2.0", you're an idiot. Forte was actually pretty funny and his sports announcer and Macgruber characters were hilarious.\.

Some of you people are retards. "Wait...wait...wait. SNL is still on?" That's hilarious! I've NEVER heard that joke before. Maybe you ought to ask for an SNL writer's gig.

Bottom line, Forte was funny. Not all of his stuff worked, but MacGruber was a solid skit especially when Betty White dropped in as his mother. The trick-or-treating pedophile was pretty good. I liked his bouts of one-up manship when he was a Salvation Army worker & Justin Timberlake visited and they'd fight over the corner. His "Greg Stink" (the goofball sportscaster) was hilarious.

I absolutely love all of Forte's characters!!!! He will definitely be missed! SNL is the greatest 😀

Good riddance. Hopefully SNL will be funnier without Forte than it has been while he's been making his far too frequent contributions.

Are you talking about the club boy who wears the graphic art designed long sleeved t-shirt who appears on weekend update and only talks about activities that are not family friendly? That character is played by Bill Hader.

Hader is amazing! The biggest talent on that show. Lorne is lucky it wasn't him leaving. (although Forte will be missed)

His clueless sports announcer at various women's "sporting" events never failed to make me laugh. Best of luck to you!

it was only while watching Will play Greg Stink, the colour commentator that I noticed how good Jason Sudoku or whatever his last name is, is. I love those ESPN sports segments and I did like Will Forte...hope he didn't leave thinking he will have a movie career..McGruber is a one trick pony

MacGruber is the most annoying character in recent memory. Forte's other characters will be missed. Good luck

Yes, db, yes. My husband and I groan every time the McGruber skit music starts. The other characters, though, were always enjoyable and sometimes brilliant.

what are all of you talking about? SNL hasnt been funny in almost a decade! the last time they had someone that was actually funny was will ferrell. Jimmy Fallon, not sure they can get more annoying. he must have eaten paint chips. will forte's character whiney and annoying.

So many of these SNL stars and TV stars say they are leaving their TV shows to pursue bigger opportunities and then they are never really heard from again. I think they have delusions of grandeur myself. They may be amusing in 5 minute TV skits but, from what I've seen, they seldom can carry more than that.

He was great as W and MacGruber, but that was about it on SNL. I think he has a lot of talent, and I hope he makes some movies. Unlike some other SNL alumni (e.g., Piscopo, Short, Fallon, Sandler) I think Forte could be a great actor in the right role(s).

I'm still surprised at how GOOD Will Ferrell is as an actor and how BAD Eddie Murphy is on the big screen. I liked Eddie Murphy on SNL and hated Ferrell. And, who would have thought that Robert Downey Jr. would have made such a kick-ss Iron Man?
