Brooklyn Decker latest to climb aboard 'Battleship'

Apparently, when it comes time to defend a destroyer from alien attack, you need a model, a pop star and a guy who proudly lets it all hang out in his nude scenes to be around for the battle.

At least, that's the way it's shaping up on actor/director Peter Berg's "Battleship," the action/adventure movie – which, yes, is based on the Hasbro game - that's rapidly assembling a cast.

So far in the lineup we have Taylor Kitsch – who portrayed Tim Riggins on “Friday Night Lights” – playing the lead as Alex Hopper. “True Blood’s” Alexander Skarsgard has been cast as the straight-laced brother of Kitsch’s more wild and spirited character.

Then there’s pop star Rihanna,  who joined the cast in late July and will make her feature film debut aboard Berg's destroyer.

That news was followed by Tuesday's announcement that model Brooklyn Decker will also star in the film, reportedly as Kitsch's love interest. To top it off, it's rumored that Tom Arnold may even make his way onto the "Battleship."

THR has questioned how a movie with a reported $200 million budget, no major stars attached and a director who isn't yet well-known for producing a big-budget action film is going to fly in the theaters, but it looks like Berg and crew are going full-steam ahead. The film is expected to begin shooting in Hawaii in a few weeks, and has a target theater release date of May, 2012.
