Levi Johnston wants Sarah Palin's old job... and a reality showLevi Johnston wants to run for Sarah Palin's former job – with cameras watching his every step. Stone & Company Entertainment confirms to CNN that they are actively shopping a show that will feature Johnston seeking his former mother-in-law's old post as mayor of Wasilla, Alaska. The show, to be called "Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor's Office," will feature the trials and tribulations of America's most famous teen dad as he enters the world of politics while continuing to dabble in Hollywood, Stone also confirmed. First reported by Variety, the company confirms they are already shooting the pilot and are shopping it to several networks. When the show was first floated to Johnston – who recently broke off his engagement to Palin's eldest daughter, Bristol, for the second time – he wasn't thrilled with the idea of following in the former Alaska governor's footsteps. "But the more I think about it and look into it, I think there's a possibility we can make it happen," Johnston told Variety. That it might: The former mayor of Wasilla, Verne E. Rupright, won in a 2008 runoff election with a total of 466 votes. The next mayoral election won't be held until 2012, but Johnston may run for city council in the meantime. Johnston also told Variety he hopes the show exposes his true character. "It's hard to figure me out," he said. "You've got to follow me around. I'm very different. I lead a crazy life. But it will basically be both worlds, my life in Hollywood and back home, the real country boy that I am."

Reality shows are dumb and have nothing to do with reality but maybe they could have one about what happens to people who want to be famous or crave celebrity and get disappointed. The mayor also presides over the city council meetings. And, as an aside, then-mayor Palin hired a deputy administrator to handle much of the town's day-to-day management.
It depends on the city's municipal code whether the mayor's approval or the city council's is needed to take action; in some instances the mayor is able to take actions that don't exceed a certain dollar amount or have other local restrictions (for example, the mayor might not be able to arbitrarily make zoning decisions or rules regarding certain business transactions).
The "real people" who interact daily and run the towns may be the city council, or it may be the mayor, or it may be administrative staff; it all depends on local code or legislation. I call for a media boycott on anyone or anything even remotely associated with Alaska and it should stand for about two years. It's like 'Hellraiser' but worse. Why did McCain have to crack the seal on this pocket of insanity, stupidity and unleash it on the world?! Maybe McCain can be the new Montell Williams! He's not a high school graduate; he dropped out of school and tried to work under an apprenticeship program but, after being hired, was let go because he wasn't qualified (the apprenticeship requires a minimum of a General Equivalency Diploma – a GED). He didn't pose in Playboy (he did, however, pose for another magazine directed towards women. He is not the son-in-law of Sarah Palin, and Sarah Palin is not his mother-in-law; he has never married Ms. Palin's daughter; he is, for what it's worth, the father of the child of Ms. Palin's daughter (he's the father of Ms. Palin's grandson).
What's more disconcerting than an entertainment company wanting him to run for mayor of a city, regardless of how small it may it (it has a population of approximately 7,000 people) is that for the show to be successful there would have to be some controversy or out of the ordinary happenings, which, like it or not, would affect the lives of the people who life in Wasilla (as well as community services, the local school, etc.), and for the show to continue (i.e., run for more than several episodes, there would have to be an intent for Mr. Johnston to remain in office. So far, the only interest in Mr. Johnson, is from what he says, "It's hard to figure me out. You've got to follow me around. I'm very different. I lead a crazy life. But it will basically be both worlds, my life in Hollywood and back home, the real country boy that I am."
Is this what an entertainment company should be doing, foisting a 20 year old who leads a "crazy life" with two worlds, one in Hollywood and one "back home" on a city? Even for "reality" television this isn't reality; it's an entertainment company imposing itself on a real world community for the sake of making money...and calling it real. Even other "reality television" shows should be ashamed and take this to task.

As you may notice, the newsworthiness of this story is the fact that they're actually trying to make a TV series out of his endeavor. It's completely ludicrous to have him become mayor of anything, including a "dump" town in Alaska. The thought of Levi getting a show for something so insane is definitely something worth bringing to the people.

I,ve been there too. There's far more remote areas of Alaska and the area around Wasilla is, like all of Alaska, stunning. And yet this town is pretty dumpy and it has a redneck reputation. About the only thing people seem to do up there is get drunk. From what I understand Sarah Palin supported heavily the local barkeeps to keep the saloons open until 4 AM. Helped her get elected. Apparently some in town worried about too much public intoxication and wanted to shut down the bars at 2. Could Levi get elected? Who knows and who really cares..

What's surprising is that it doesn't seem like a lot of people in Wasilla are protesting the possibility of Levi, star of "drilling bristol" and "how to drill bristol", being their mayor.
