Casting the annoyed airline attendantNow that he has the fame, all he needs is a movie deal. As folks around the world cheer for Steven Slater, the now infamous JetBlue attendant who quit his job in a really spectacular way, we started to wonder who could play him when Hollywood comes knocking. Because seriously, you know Tinseltown is going to come knocking.
After all, who can resist a story where a beleaguered employee snaps, lets the curses fly, grabs a beer and throws himself down an emergency chute. And show business never met a film set on an airplane that it didn’t like. In terms of the look, so far we have come up with Paul Bettany (pictured), Simon Woods and maybe Kiefer Sutherland. But if producers want to go a little younger (and hotter) there is always the newly-single Hayden Christensen. Or they could totally flip the script and cast Angelina Jolie, who could kick some butt before she evacuated the plane. Who do you think is the ideal actor (or actress) to play Steven Slater? |

I think it's ashame that the media and this blog is making this guy into a hero. Isn't it interesting that someone at a customer service job, trained to service people who are often stressed to begin with while flying, snaps when becoming too stressed, is touted as a hero? That's after cursing at his customers and committing an illegal act and costing the airlines $25K? Why isn't anyone talking about how he could have snapped like that while flying and endangering the passngers and crew? This is sending a message that his behavior is acceptable and applauded.
Maybe not a movie, but someone mentioned David Spade and it would be great to see him open the new season of SNL with a skit about this... 😉 How fun!!!
They should let Steven Slater play himself. A few acting lessons and...wa-LA!
Kevin Connolly, ie Eric from "Entourage."
Neal McDonough.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
Jonathan Scarfe, the actor who played the Law Clerk to the Judge, in 'Raising the Bar' would be PERFECT!!!!
Simon Pegg
hmm, Paul Bettany or Steven Slater himself. That would be interesting. 😉
David Spade! Remember the Total B@st@ard Airlines skit from SNL? Buh-bye now!
Paul Bettany is hot hot hot...Love this guy...
Tinseltown will make a movie out that kid who stole airplanes ( a la Catch me if you can ), now this flight attendant...
Original
Too bad Stephen Stucker - the outrageous flight attendent in the 1980 movie Airplane – died in 1986 (per wiki). The first time I saw Slater on the new, I immediately thought of Stucker.
Philip Seymour Hoffman
I think Paul Bettany should do it. they look identical almost and Bettany is a good actor. Do a compare right now.
Greg Pitts, the "O Face" guy from Office Space.
My vote goes for Greg Kinnear....
From what I understand he told a lady to sit down and not get her luggage from the over head bin and she cursed him out, as the plane was taxiing to the gate. Why isn't the news reporters going after the lady. Isn't it against the law to disobey and interfer with the instructions of a flight crew while on board a flight. Why aren't any new agencies finding out why this lady, who he had the confrontation with, is not being charged for interferring with a flight crew.
The guy who played "Gunther" on "Friends". He was the Central Perk coffee shop manager. He looks just like this dude.
Either someone new or he should play himself
I think they should get someone new and unheard of.
This could be LiLo's come back film.
If only Stephen Stucker were still alive.
Kelsey Grammer or Drew Carey.
Ok...for those folks like Matt...lighten up...it is just a topic for discussion...nobody has been set to produce, direct, write or cast a film about this dude...it is just a topic to discuss for fun. If you get over stressed about things like this then maybe this life is not for you. Relax...take a pill...chill out and have a little fun in your life. There is no need to be so serious ALL the time. Caisandra hit the nail on the head, make this fun and let build on the plot and play with it some.
On that note...I think Paul Bettany strangely looks like the dude and is a terrific actor. Simon Peg would bring a nice bit of comedy to it and strangely looks like the dude too. The passenger could be someone who can play the ass role very nicely...someone kind of rude or dismissive...Kevin Spacey, one of my personal fav actors of all time, plays an awesome dismissive person. oh or like James Woods.
LOL there are a lot of good names being listed here but the first name that came to my mind was Simon Pegg, he of "Shaun of the Dead".
Although MATT seemed to belabor the point, I do agree with him. This story seems a little thin for a movie plot. Possibly the person, who buys/bought the movie rights, might make Steven a superhero/secret agent/transformer to flesh out the rest of the storyline. In any case Neil Patrick Harris would be perfect. Maybe HE can make homage to Steven in his own series.
seriously u want a movie about a flight attendent on a slide. reallyy? Reaeaaaaallly?
The guy who played Gunther on FRIENDS!
Samuel Jackson.......There are snakes on this plane!!!
HA!
Designer Michael Kors
Jim Carrey, because most of the pictures I've seen of the guy make me think of "The Mask".
Sharon Stone
That blonde dude from the old TV show "5 Gay Guys for the Blind Guy" or whatever it was called.
This will turn into a made for tv movie by the end of the year. Count on it.
William Shatner
Paul Bettany is a great actor and he'd do well...but I'd LOVE to see Matt Damon tackle this.
I was thinking along the lines of Neal Patrick Harris or Simon Pegg (as other posters did). However, when I read your selection of Matt Damon, I was like "Wow"!
He has a great sense of humor and is a terrific and versitile actor. Matt is my choice now.
John Cryer
Nick Swardson
Bob Crane. Don't ask me why.
Bob Crane died years ago, I think it was a suicide.
Paul Bettany is awesome, by the way. One of my favorite actors.
Patrick Bristow
Perfection: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Bristow
Harvey Fierstein
The guy who played 'Jack' in Will & Grace and Megan Mulally can play the errant passenger
for $#Q$#$ sake – get a life people – what is the point here ... the guy gets fed up with his job and leaves in a 'funny' way and all of a sudden you 'want to make a movie about it' – isn't there anything a little more interesting to make movies about – are you lives really that shallow and boring that this counts as interesting news and something that you would even wanna bother with?? YOU ALL REALLY NEED TO GET A HOBBY!!!
Based on the length of your response you don't have much going on either!
This dude kinda looks like he could be an actor already
This guy is an actor, LOL. Paul Bettany. He's in Bent, A Knight's Tale, Wimbledon, Dogville...a quite a few more movies.
This article is as ridiculous as the people who are responding. I guess that includes myself.
The late Chris Farley would have been perfect (think Matt Foley)
Simon Pegg, the dude from Shaun of the Dead.
I agree with this. He'd be perfect. And a British accent never made any movie worse!
Eddie Murphy
The guy should be someone who can act subservient, to normally accommodate all kinds of passengers, but who comes into his own with this 'Departure'. The Guy who plays Charlie Sheen's brother, on 21/2 Men, could be just the ticket.
Eric Davis would be perfect. He is a little tall but could really pull it off.
Betty White
Will Ferrell.
Neil Patrick Harris.
Zach Galifianakis. Because he's not already in everything.
Love this comment.
It has to be comedian Jim Gaffigan. Look him up. He's perfect.
Mel Gibson he would be great!
I agree, apparently it doesn't take much to get him to fly off the handle!
Plus a few slurs always makes the situation a bit more funny
Charlie Sheen or Christian Slater with their hair dyed blond. I heard about this on my local news here in NYC– too much. Poor guy !
Agree with Sheen!
