Kanye West: I'm not a racistKanye West is a new man. So says the rapper who took to U-Stream on Friday to answer questions from fans. Speaking from somewhere in Korea, West appeared wearing the outfit he wore in the “Flashing Lights” video (which he told fans was his favorite). After speaking about his love of art and how it helped influence the video for his new song “Power,” (“I always had the dream of recreating the Sistene Chapel”) West discussed his creative process and his admiration of James Cameron’s “Avatar” and the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen whose creativity he said he uses as his bar. “When I make music, I’m not really thinking about other rappers album,” West said. “I’m thinking about the McQueen collection.” The rapper became reflective when a viewer posted a comment referring to West as racist. “I actually don’t know a rapper before me that liked white people more than me,” he said. “I don’t know a rapper that collaborated with more white people.” “I know what I did that made people put it in a box, but it never came from a place of that,” he continued. “I’m not going to dial into that but I will just say that in no way am I racist.” West also says he is not a raving egomaniac. “What you have to realize is a lot of times when I talk and I am talking extremely cocky, I am not talking about myself,” he said. “I am talking about the work. I think people should be proud of their work.” The rap star is now going for a kinder, gentler approach, he says. “It’s no more time to be a rude a** celebrity,” West said. “It’s now all about the work. I’m not allowing my attitude to get in the way of the work anymore.”

Have you watched the "Monster" video? If you do, you would be outraged if the same video were made by a white male with black female actresses.
not all blacks are being 'evaluated' just Kanye... I think he may have some racist tenancies... Just look at his lyrics and music videos. Just because blacks have suffered racism doesn't mean that they are incapable of giving it...

Ok, well he says he isnt racist, but we all know he is. Remember the incident with Taylor Swift? Taylor Swift, a white girl, had just won the best music video award. Then Kanye West, a black man, came up on stage, took her microphone, and started ranting hurtful things to Taylor in front of millions of people everywhere..He said that Beyonce, a black woman, should have won...He obviously prefers the black race enough to come and ruin one of the happiest moments of someones life...Racist much? Now please don't think that I'm racist, I believe that blacks and whites and any race for that matter should be equal. Im just stating facts...
I don't think that was racially motivated at all! I think Beyonce is a friend of him and whether a white artist or a black one was on stage he would have reacted the same way. I don't understand how it can be seen as racist because I didn't hear one racist remark! Because he prefers Beyonce over Taylor he is racist?? Doesn't make sense! He could have preferred her solely based on his opinion of her talent.
White people would experince hatred towards them from black and brown folks who experience real racism. One cannot be racist if you cant hold smeone down because of their race. Only whites have done this...

I remember the saying, "I'm not a bigot...some of my best friends are (fill-in-the-blank)." Whether referring to race, culture, disabilities, gender, etc., etc., etc., the comment remains the same. My question then becomes, is this better or worse than Dr. Laura and her recent comments, where she used the N-word to describe what others (like rappers) say? Is it any different?
This forum has nothing to do with Dr. Laura, if you want to discuss her maybe you should look for a "Dr. Laura Forum" or something? Doesn't seem to me that there are too many people here interested in the ever so popular (and childish) "blame game".

Any Amercian has freedom of speech. All Americans should be treated equally as well. You must live in a completely different world than I live in. Where I live white people are afraid to express themselves for fear of being "politically incorrect" and suffering a backlash. Schools reject applications of qualifed exemplary students because they are white and we can't have a school with too many white people now can we? When a black person is offended by the comments or actions of a white person the NAACP(etc.) fight for those black peoples' rights. If you know of an organization that fights for the unfair treatment of white people let me know about? haven't heard of one myself. If you know about a cable/satellite channel that is completely dedicated to white people (as black people have BET) let me know about that too please. There is a difference in wanting to be treated as equals (as the Civil Rights activists fought for) then wanting special treatment and allowances. It is extremely disrespectful and incomprehensible to think you would compare what Civil Rights Activists fought against and for to any "struggle" black people are living through today.

I don't think for one minute that Kanye is a racist...I'm a white 45yo woman. Many of the things that he has done over the past year (VMAs, etc.) have come from a place of pain & hurt so I can feel some compassion for him. He's admitted he's made mistakes and is trying to change – only time will tell. The thing with him is that besides his huge ego (which I think honestly comes from a place of low self-esteem) he has no self editing capabilities – he thinks it, he says it, he can't take it back. He is a bit manic – you can tell when you watch interviews with him that his mind is going in a million directions. Honestly, if you don't like his music or it offends you in some way, turn it off – but he isn't a racist. Unfortunately for all the haters out there, I think his new record is going to be HUGE. – the song POWER & its video are genius.

Just for future reference, SAE, just in case you meet an actual Cape Verdian don't call them black. They get very offended. They consider themselves Portugese which technically are considered Caucasian based on it's location. Yes, the are visually not white people but they do not consider themselves people of color. It was just a comment based on what he felt at the time. Wolf Blitzer called the people "so poor and so black" that is more of a bigoted/racist comment that the president at the time doesn't care about black people. He just doesn't know when to sensor his stupid comments. The best was Mike Myers face when Kanye West said that though...he didn't know what to do. He was looking around like did he just say what I thought he just said. I thought it was pretty hilarious...but not racist.
