Whoopi Goldberg had choice words for Salahis

It looks like one woman’s "light touch" is enough to make another woman cry, and that seems to be what happened on "The View" Wednesday.

Things got heated on ABC's daytime show – although, at this point, that may go without saying – when Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd sat down with the “Real Housewives of Washington D.C.” to chat about the new season.

As the conversation veered towards a disagreement between Michaele Salahi and another “Housewife,” Goldberg exited backstage, touched Salahi on what appears to be her back from the video (judge for yourself by watching the clip here), and, according to Goldberg's recap of the events Thursday, said, “can you get back the White House please?”

Michaele Salahi then alleged after the show that not only was she treated "very poorly" by the hosts of “The View,” but also that Goldberg had touched her with more aggression than what ABC describes as a "light touch."

“During pointed questioning about an unrelated incident where Ms. Salahi had been called 'anorexic' (also untrue), Whoopi Goldberg came from backstage behind Ms. Salahi, shook her arm, and told her to move on and talk about the White House,” said the Salahis' attorney, Lisa Bloom, in a statement.

“This was startling to Ms. Salahi, as...Whoopi Goldberg was not part of the segment. Ms. Behar and Ms. Shepherd were conducting the interview, so it was up to them to “move along” to whatever topics they chose… Ms. Salahi was surprised and unnerved (as anyone would be) that someone would come up from behind on live TV and tell her to stop answering the question that the actual interviewers had posed to her.”

The statement went on, “If Ms. Goldberg didn’t like how the interview was being conducted, she should have taken her grievances to the shows producers and co-hosts - not Ms. Salahi, and certainly not while she was a guest on the live show.”

According to Bloom, Salahi was “in tears” when she got backstage, and informed a show producer that “she was upset that Whoopi Goldberg had come up behind her and grabbed her arm.” When the producer found Goldberg, Bloom says in the statement that the “View” host yelled profanities at Salahi, which turns out to be something Salahi and Goldberg agree on.

“I went up to her and told her that she knew I didn’t hit her, and yeah, you know how I said it: Choice words,” Goldberg said as she told the audience of “The View” her version of the events on Thursday.

“I make no apology for my choice words, but then her husband got in my face, had his BlackBerry out and started taking pictures of me,” Goldberg went on. “Needless to say, I really went off. The words were so choice you could’ve cut ‘em off and eaten them.”

According to Bloom’s statement, Salahi never accused Goldberg of hitting her, and claims that the producer who was involved in the mayhem was the one who used the word “hit” in reference to Goldberg’s actions.

ABC said in its official statement that Salahi and her husband did accuse Goldberg of hitting her, although the network notes that Salahi “claims she never said Goldberg hit her.”

ABC's statement continues, “As the broadcast clearly shows, the accusation was completely unfounded and erroneous. After the show and after being told she was being accused of hitting Ms. Salahi, Whoopi proceeded to defend herself verbally from this baseless claim in a heated exchange with the Salahis.”

Oh, and by the way: The Salahis are not party-crashers, according to the statement from their attorney. The Salahis say they were led to believe that they were invited to the event; Bloom also notes that the couple has not been charged with anything.

So in light of all this drama, does this make you more or less excited that “Real Housewives of D.C.” is premiering tonight on Bravo (at 9 p.m., in case you didn’t know)?

Joy Behar, who had a ringside seat to the entire ordeal, will have the latest on this story on The Joy Behar Show tonight at 9 pm ET.

I touched my coworker the other day to get her attention. I watched the view that day and the replay the day after. Whoopi clearly touched Ms. Salahis nothing more. Whoopi is who she is that's why I like her. For those that critize her
and thinks she should be a role model grow up! She's an actress doing a job nothing more. You go girl! Or should I say go woman!

I have a very dear friend who used to work with Whoopi on Hollywood Squares, and he has told me some stories that would curt your hair. She has absolutely no morals, curses like a sailor, and plays the diva to the hilt. Absolutely everyone is beneath her, and she doesn't mind telling them so. I quit watching the View when Merideth Vierra left, and was shocked to hear Whoopi was now a part of the show. I can't stand the publicity the Salahis got out of the White House incident, in my oponion they are trashy publicity crazy bottom feeders, but I'm most concerned that White House Security let them in without a proper invitation. They could have very easily been terrorists, but were welcomed in and
treated like royalty in front of God and the whole world. Now good ole Lisa Bloom has jumped on the bandwagon to get some publicity for herself. The Salahis were wrong, Whoopi was wrong, Lisa is wrong to get involved. Don't look at them, don't watch them, and then, and only then will they all go away. The whole country has gone crazy for a bit of ego. And this includes Andy Cohen, NBC, and all the other networks who have used this fiasco to gain ratings.

    About time somebody spoke up.

What she and her husband did was dirty, no count, and dangerous. They put everyone at risk that evening, and the Head of Security ate it...put the blame on himself.

Instead of rolling around on shows thinking she's all that she should be ashamed of herself.

Glad you spoke up Whoopi...everybody else was afraid to say anything. She can't take it...too bad. She and her stupid idiot husband should go to jail for pulling a stunt like that. And fined. Hope they do. They both deserve it.

Instead the idiot woman should be in jail for pulling a stunt like that...Both of them should be in jail, not rolling around on tv shows, smiling cause she and the husband got away with it. Makes me sick. Glad Whoopi spoke up. Nobody else did, seemed like they are scared to say something. Hope this jackazez go to jail...

You're smelling more than a "lawsuit", I can assure you. That "touch" was less than the kind of touch you feel when you walk through a crowd of people and can't help brushing up against someone. If you somehow think that this Salahi creep has a case then I'm sure that you have had a few frivolous lawsuits of your own.

What I'm concerned about is Whoopi's inability to express herself without using a heavy dose of expletives. Is her vocabulary and intelligence that limited? She is unprofessional, unsophisticated, domineering, and ill-mannered. On every show she talks over or cuts off one of the other ladies. By her own admission, she has abused illicit drugs, been unfaithful to one (or perhaps all 3) of her husbands so she must also be pretty short on self-control. As an elementary school teacher, I cannot think of a worse role model.

While I despise the Salahis, Whoopi Goldberg is quite the self-righteous person. Every time someone else takes the limelight, she's got to be in on it, and her bit about going and begging for food when a chef is on the show, is getting old and isn't funny. She's the moderator of the show but closes every argument as if she is the one who holds the truth, she's the one who knows everyone, bla, bla, bla. Between the brainless republican, the idiot who didn't know whether the earth was flat or round and Whoopi and her holier than thou attiude, the only one who makes any sense on that show is Joy. Thank God she has her own show on HLN!

Whoppie was out of line to put her hand on Salahi, especially if she was in disagreement with her. If someone touched me and I was in disagreement with them I would see the move as aggresive , her language and her bragging about her foul language only shows that she is no better than the Salahis. Whoppie is as full of herself as she accuses others of being. The View needs a good dose of reality, their not half as good as they think they are.

Regardless of whatever type of physical contact occurred between Salahi and Goldberg, why on earth did Goldberg come out and try to talk to Salahi during an interview and then rush away as if nothing happened? Does she normally do that? It seems a little awkward. Was Whoopi intentionally trying to create more controversy and publicity for Salahi?

This whole thing was a ad-libbed publicity stunt that was concocted by the producers of "The View" and "Housewives". If you read the article, it says that Salahi never said Whoopi "hit" her. It was a third party that used that word. I agree w/ Carol. The other two co-hosts were conducting the interview. Whoopi should have stayed out of it. As far as the arguing backstage, I feel that Whoopi should have left that alone as well. They are guests on the show and shouldn't be spoken to in that manner no matter who's at fault. If the husband was taking pictures w/ his blackberry, then walk away. Don't feed into that behavior b/c it's only going to make Whoopi (the true professional in this mix) look badly. Yelling back and forth is only going to give them the amo that the Salahi's need to continue their quest for fame. It'll continue to give them a story to tell. Just ignore them and hopefully, they'll go away. Whoopi fed right into them. If she would have kept it professional and classy, there wouldn't have been an article to respond to.

Why in the world has the platform changed in television with these reality based shows that seem to offer all of us a swift kick in the behind? When the Salahis crashed the White House, I only hoped that they would be put behind bars, but if they could find no criminal count to charge them with that they would be expelled from all media. Whoopi and the rest of the View have every right to be discusted with this woman and the producers of "Real Housewives" should be ashamed to put such a person, who her and her husband should be in jail, on their show. I agree these arene't celebs there attention getters and will do anything to get it. Just who do these Salahis think they are? They seem to have a greatly exaggerated sense of self-importance and/or self-worth. Don't mess w/Whoopi, leave her alone!

The Salahi couple are pitiful shallow media hounds and have proven repeatedly to be overly dramatic and desperate for attention. I guess we're giving it to them by all this publicity (good or bad). Let's review: she was "abused" by Whoopi Goldberg?? C'mon. We've all seen the footage. A man throwing wine in a woman's face? Publicity. Also, how are you "led to believe" you are invited to a WHITE HOUSE EVENT??? Regardless of charges not being pressed (they should be), there is no gray area – there are engraved invitations, guest lists and you simply got in by security not working up to par. What's next?

The Salahi's have just become a joke; much like the East Coast version of Heidi and Spencer. Hopefully, your drawn out 15 minutes will be up soon and you will simply fade out.

This only adds more credence to the impression that the Salahi's are shameless publicity-hogs. I'm disappointed that The View gave her air-time and that Lisa Bloom is her attorney. Makes the whole lot of them seem stinky to me. When is unearned celebrity finally seen as what it is? A celebrity with a proven skill is one thing. This garbage is completely different.

Why these people are even classified as "celebrities" is beyond me. They're milking the media for whatever fame and fortune they can swindle. Con artists!

I can not believe the media is even giving her air time. I live in Virginia and the Salahi's are crooks. Someone should ask her about their financial problems. I work for the bank that repossessed their car. They are only doing this to get income to save them from bankruptcy. The Salahi's have been hiding from collectors for years. They think they are high society, but are really trailor trash.

I agree. I record and watch the View every evening. I saw yesterday's show and the Salahi chick refused to answer the question!! She kept rambling at a moderate tone of voice, trying to say something about a misunderstanding, etc. She is full of bull****. I saw Whoopi walk up behind her and if that bothered her, she needs to get out of the limelight. It's called "thinking on your feet" when something unexpected happens. Most of us deal with that everyday at work!! The scary thing is that people will tune in to watch this loser on another ridiculous "reality" show.

I also watched "The View" when Salahi was "tapped" by Whoppie. Apparently, she does not know the difference between a hit and a tap. The Salahis' are far from celebs and attention seekers! The should have been prosecuted and put in jail. It's pathetic that they would even put a show on television and use this criminal as one of the characters. I have never watched "Housewives of DC" and have no intentions of watching it! I watch "The View" every weekeday and I would like to suggest that next time before they bring back "Salahis" your viewers would get more enjoyment watching a circus showman with his monkey. In other words please DON'T EVER" BRING THEM BACK AND IF YOU DO PLEASE WHOOPIE, YOU OWE HER A REAL HIT!
