Mike Tyson: 'Hangover' supplied my drug habit

In recent months, Mike Tyson has been everywhere.

He spilled the beans on his love for cocaine and prostitutes to Sports Illustrated, called himself a “pig” in Details, and even popped up on the latest episode of the HBO hit, “Entourage.”

Tyson also made a recent stop by ESPN radio for an interview in which he opens up about his part in the astronomically successful comedy, “The Hangover.”

When asked if he ever thought the comedy, which also starred Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Justin Bartha, was going to be such a success, Tyson responded, "I was doing that to supply my drug habit."

“I said, ‘Wow, This is going to be really good," The athlete went on. "We’re going to sell this stuff on 42nd street on bootleg and make a lot of money.’ This is my best thinking on drugs.”

Tyson later said it was the accidental death of his four-year-old daughter that changed his life. Since the tragedy, Tyson has dropped 130 pounds by going vegan, and is committed to being a strong family man.

After her death, “I didn't want to live anymore,” Tyson said in the interview. “So I said...I am going to change everything I dislike about myself. I changed everything that I was as a human being...I don't smoke anymore. I wanted to give up everything. I had to change my life."

  3. Children Are Our Future

Hmm...as a father of five (now-adults) children, I recall many, many times that my wife and I sacrificed our own pleasure or needs for the sake of raising them to be responsible, contributing adults. Yes, there were injuries, setbacks, heart-breaks, lost dreams, lost opportunities, brushes with authorities, you name it, but, like the vast majority of responsible adult parents, we never gave up. I am certain that if need be, I would have taken a bullet for any/all of my children (just as I did as A US Marine in battle for my fellow soldiers). I cannot comprehend or accept an adult human father being so selfish and ignorant concerning his baby girl. An American Tragedy

i cant or dont even want to try to pretent to of what mike had to go through with the loss of his baby girl. my deepest sympathy goes to him and his family. i have admiration and respect for the fact that he took such a horrable event and was able to turn it into a possitive. i think that mike tyson is one of the greatest heavyweights to ever step into the ring. i dont agree with some of the decissons that he made in his presonal life " beating of women " i'm glad to see even the most disturbed and toughest of men can still change. this should be positive example to everyone that no matter what the behavior or the age or the reason. you can change what you dont like about your self and become a better person and role model for others!!! people so often get into a rut later in life and trust me it doesnt get easier. to read this story inspired me. thanks for sharing

I remember seeing Mike on TV in the early days. The strength, the hunger, the respect and love for his manager.
I watched him every chance I got. I am so sorry about the loss of his daughter. As a recovering addict (it's been over 20 years now) I know first hand the battle he is facing, and have faith he will win this fight. His honesty and integrity has earned my deepest respect.

It's so sad that it took losing a daughter for him to get his life back on track. But at least it's had a positive effect on him instead of making him further self destructed. It's nice to see him making positive changes to his life and I wish him the best. His testimoney could really change someone's life around.

He was hilarious on Entourage!!! I hope to see more of him in the future.

What planet you are living on? Just because he has dropped 130 pounds and isn't a lard ass you think that means he's in the best shape he was in when he was the best? Did yuo even folow his career back then? Ever heard of sparring, running? Newsflash, you don't need to be world champion athelete to drop that much weight, but to be in the shape he was at in his prime (When he fought Spinks), you need to do a hell of a lot more than just going vegan.

Wow. I've always had a pretty bad impression of Mike Tyson. Mike has never been a saint, but who are we to judge. After reading this articile, I'm happy to hear even the most troubled individuals are able to pick themselves up and look forward to living their life in a positive light. Clearly he has a lot of bridges to mend and I hope he does so in honour of his daughter. Looks to me like his daughter came into his life for a reason.

No matter what you, 30K/year, losers are saying, Mike is a self-made multi-millioner, and the best heavyweight boxer who ever lived. I knew he was on crack when he fought Buster Douglass – he was so uncharacteristically slow that, for the first time, I could see his punches. I only wonder, how many days after his last hit did he fight Buster? I'd bet not more than a week...

seeking God is the only way to "change what you don't like about yourself." Otherwise, problems with relapse and repeat bad decisions will plague you the rest of your life- period. Man is not strong enough to "change" himself permanently without the reconnection with God's spirit which was lost in the fall. Do I have to correct all of you on this subject or what? Your lack in knowledge of God, and lack of seeking Him rather than doubting Him is pathetic.

Every major civilization has come up with an idea for religion because they couldn't solve life on their own. From the Romans, Russians, Greeks, Mayans, Aztecs, and deep Europe there has always been a series of beings in higher control. (Even today we have 1 god but many saints, which are primarily the same concept.) Nobody has ever proven any religion in the existence of humanity, but societies have never been want of a higher power.

OJ Simpson is much worse than Mike Tyson. I am sure there are more that either have gotten away with a lot worse stuff. By no means, am I saying Tyson is saint, btw.

That's ok if he doesn't know how to read, I don't write my prayers down anyway...btw how do you know that? Did he tell you? Can you ask him to call me? I have a lot of questions...

how can God know what will be written without trampling on free will?

He knows what WILL be written because He has pre-determined everything ALREADY. Including YOUR free will. Please take a class on Genesis. You obviously know very little about God but have the nerve to mock Him?

so if fate/predetermination exists and choices are already known by 'god', then what's the point of free will? how is this actually free will? are there not infinite directions our life can go based on our decisions from one moment to the next? i'm not going to use a book of stories written thousands of years ago as a pretense for logic.

i'm no rabbi, but i've had over 21 years of education in a formal christian curriculum. elementary, middle, secondary, and college. i'm pretty sure pre-judgement is not on jesus' list of good behavior...

@ JEBUS – What did Jesus say in the gospel? "My sheep know my voice." God's people have ALREADY been pre-ordained. He knew them before creation, before the fall, before they were in the womb. The 6 days of creation were the entire length of time given and mapped out by God, not just a few "earthly days." As most of you know, time in the heavens is not equal to time on earth....and by the way OUR time is running out. Get to know our Father who is indeed our source.

using a book of stories and fairytales to written thousands of years ago to explain the formation of the cosmos is a bit naive. however, i do wish more "christians" actually used the bible for a moral compass as opposed to a source to spew hatred, condemnation, judgement, etc. if this bible satisfies your intellect and thirst for understand and knowledge of the world around you, ok then. stop preaching.

JEBUS, God knows what will happen because for Him it already has happened – He's already there. He is not bound by linear time – a physical law of the material universe – like we are, but acts independently of it. He created time. Scientists attest to the fact that time itself had a beginning in our universe. God is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last. Just because He knows what will happen doesn't mean we don't have free will – He still lets our decisions and actions have consequences, and the same is true of the world.

Hey Mike. I lost a daughter too. She was 10 months old. Reading this has given me a little more hope. I wish I could change the things I don't like about me too. Maybe I will. Thank you.

I do not envy anyone trying to get sober under the glare of the paparazzi.

Mike, I appreciate your candor. It is who you are NOW that matters. If there are any haters, it is only because they envy what you have achieved without their input.

The toughest part of all of this will be to forgive yourself, Mike. You've got a lot of people in your corner now, but no one's opinion is as important as that of the person looking back at you in the mirror every morning. This is Round 10, and you are Mike F'ing Tyson. Do it to it.
