Behind the Scenes on 'Showbiz Tonight': Could Abdul come back to 'Idol'?

Happy Thursday everyone! The “Showbiz Tonight” staff was on fire this morning about the drama going down between Whoopi Goldberg and Michaele Salahi.

The star of “The Real Housewives of D.C.” was invited on with the rest of the cast members as guests of “The View” on Wednesday. Things got pretty heated up when the talk turned to the White House State Dinner that Salahi and her husband were accused of crashing. Apparently Goldberg was backstage and came out to tap Salahi on the shoulder so she would get back to talking about the White House, and a whole brouhaha ensued after the show was over!

But, I gotta tell you, another brouhaha broke out in the “Showbiz Tonight” staff meeting this morning! Here’s the question: Was Goldberg and the rest of the ladies of “The View” wrong for pressing Salahi? “Showbiz Tonight” Producer Kristyn Martin thinks that Salahi could very well be the next Heidi Montag! You do not want to miss this debate on our show later today.

We also received some surprising results to our poll asking whether or not Bristol Palin/Levi Johnston breakup was just a giant publicity stunt. We posed the question after Palin poured her heart out in a brand new interview with People magazine saying her engagement to Johnston was over.

But the big question about the breakup has been why did Palin go to a magazine and spill the beans? Why didn’t she keep it quiet? Well, just wait until you hear how people voted on our question!

And who knew Gisele Bundchen could single-handedly set off a firestorm? The supermodel admits she may have put her foot in her mouth when she suggested that there be a worldwide law for all mothers to breastfeed their babies for the first six months.

What a debate Bundchen sparked - I can tell you our “Showbiz Tonight” fans have been fired up over Bundchen’s bungle, and we are going to go much deeper into this story today on the show!

The “Showbiz Tonight” staff is also buzzing over Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe coming back into the fold of “American Idol” and his public declaration that he wants Paula Abdul back! Could it happen? We'll have the scoop on the show today.

What do you think about these stories? Post here and send us your "Showbiz" iReport videos. We’ll try to work some of your comments into the show…

Watch "Showbiz Tonight" live at 5 p.m. today. And remember, we’re still TV’s most provocative entertainment news show seven days a week at 11 p.m. ET/PT!

Jeannie G.__ are you serious ??Whoopi had every right to come over to her & tell her to get back on the topic & answer the question. Mrs.Salahi is a fake ,phoney & a fraud. No one on the View is out of control - they called her out & she could not handle the heat. She needs a serious reality check - maybe go to a soup kitchen & give out meals to the poor instead of crashing parties & being so fake. Whoopi keeps it real - apparently you & Mrs.Salihican not face reality.

American Idol is doomed. it has had its day. Bringing paula back won't change anything. What happens to these AI winners? Last season's winner seems to have disappeared, as has David Cook and others. Nope, it is time to move over Amercian Idol, you've lost the magic. I wonder if Simon's X-Factor will do anything. As for the View, it's a cool show, Goldberg is sometimes funny, but always serious. Joy Behar ia a joy, but Elisabeth, is a bore and not the brightest star in the heavens.

I think the women on The View has become 'out of control'. Goldberg shows up a couple weeks ago obviously very high and out of control. I didn't buy the meds for flying story anymore than she bought that Salahi's had a invitation to white house. Goldberg wasn't a part of the segment and had no reason to come out and touch that woman.Joy Behar is absolutely ridiculous to watch anyway and she was obviously very rude to Salahi. You don't have to agree with your guest but you are courteous at all times.I can't believe the President of the United States went on that show. I agree that he may just as well gone on Springer. Hopefully the show will be canceled soon.
