Jeff Goldblum leaving 'Law & Order:CI'

Well that didn’t take long.

The revolving roles continue on "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" with Variety reporting that actor Jeff Goldblum is leaving the show after two seasons.

Goldblum took over last season for Chris Noth, who left the show after reviving his role of Det. Mike Logan, whom he portrayed on the original “Law & Order” series.

Goldblum’s Det. Zach Nichols helmed “L & O: CI” after the mass exodus of actors Vincent D'Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe and Eric Bogosian. Fans were fairly vocal about the loss of D’Onofrio and Erbe, who had been with the franchise since its inception.

Neither creator Dick Wolf, nor the USA Network have confirmed that Goldblum is choosing not to renew now that his two year deal is up.

So where does that leave us, “L&O: CI” fans? Does this latest news toll the death bell for a show that has a pretty strong core fan base, but has never really been able to pull in big ratings?

I have not seen the show sine Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe left the show. I figure, if I don't like a show or it's changes, I just don't watch it. As long as I have a remote, I'm in control. Not much to get too excited about. I learned long ago that writing to the networks doesn't do anything....they don't really care. They are going to do what ever they want to do. It irritates me the way they keep changing shows from different time slots and even different networks and then finally they cancel it because of ratings. How does this make sense?? How can a person be loyal to a show when it's not even possible to keep track of the show. As I said....they don't really care, they will do what they want to do. What ever is the flavor of the season will be what you will see and they will decide the flavor. If I really liked something and want to see it, I will find the DVD and watch it that way. I don't have to give them my ratings.

I loved the original Law and Order Criminal Intent but had grown tired of Bobby's encyclopedic knowledge and poor Eames having to tag along. WHY? He was a one man band. I always hoped for Eames' part to expand. When Jeff Goldblum arrived, I was thrilled. I am a fan and I, obviously in the minority here, have enjoyed his portrayal of another flawed but intelligent detective. Unfortunately, another female partner will nothing in the way of personality or backstory was a real disappointment. I will continue to watch L&O/CI - I am a fan. Personally, I would love to see Goldblum stay and have Eames come back as his partner - IF they would expand her part. Why do female characters have to either bland or ball busters. There IS a beautiful balance - why can't writers see that?

I hate to hear this. I love Jeff Goldblum and I guess I'm in the minority but I didn't like D'Onofrio. I don't like Goldblum's partner though so I wouldn't mind if she left. I will definitely stop watching if Goldblum leaves. He was the only reason I watched the past two seasons.

I tend to disagree. I loved the original and the cast that went with it for sure, and was very sad to see them go. But I think in the last few episodes this season they were beginning to find a voice for Jeff and was looking forward to more development. I had hoped for a fresh, crisp new direction that woud keep the show alive. As it is now, I know they won't bring back the old crew, and I have no idea where they go from here, other than to maybe just quietly turn in their badge. I guess they could always enlist Adrienne Monk!!

Well from your point of view, maybe they should hang up their badges and cancel the show. JUST GOES TO PROVE, THE SHOW IS A FAILURE WITHOUT VINCENT AND KATHRYN!

I am just commenting. I stopped watching the show once he took over. Every once in a while I would look to see what was happening, and it wasn't.

YES!!! About time! Although I think Jeff Goldblum is a good actor I didn't like his character when they went through there "switch em ups" with new characters alternating each week between Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe and the newbies they kept experimenting with to fill their shoes. Law & Order C.I. just needed new writers, Vincent and Kathryn WERE Law & Order C.I. Vincent's supreme acting brought life to a character that was very unique and Kathryn's character played well off of his. HOWEVER I stopped watching the show as soon as they were given the boot. I'm really tired of Networks replacing the actors who made their shows popular and loved by the viewers just because they want to "SHAKE THINGS UP A BIT" and canceling shows we've invested our time in, just because they have an overflow of other shows that are doing so well in the ratings that they can afford to cancel shows that are doing well enough (YES that's right, I heard it from the horses mouth) not to mention all the good shows that got canceled after the last writers strike because people didn't know when the shows were coming back on so they got lower ratings then normal that Season. Personally I take things as a matter of principle and take stands against shows who don't appreciate the actors who made their shows success and Networks who pull good shows that the viewers love to watch. They don't seem to care what we want anymore.

I too, feel that losing D'Onofrio, the show lost credibilty. His portrayal of a violent crimes detective, sometimes tussled in appearance, overworked, and often pained by a case, made the series believable. Nothing against Jeff. They are just two actors with different styles and approaches. I preferred Vincent.

I have to agree the show lost its alure for me when we lost D’Onofrio and Erbe. I don't 'schedule' to watch any more, but have caught a couple of the Goldblum episodes, but there wasn't much to bring me back. I love the L&O franchise – and watch as many of the re-runs that I can late at night when I can't sleep. I really hate to see this one go under. I never did learn why D’Onofrio and Erbe left.

Just cancel this show already. I love D'Onofrio and Erbe in the first few seasons but after awhile, I was getting tired of Bobby's "knows everything" character. All things must come to an end so just end this show now. No more replacements!!!

Never could stand D'Onofrio for the very same "know-it-all" reason. I stopped watching until he was replaced. I thought Goldblum was just fine. I just don't care for the writing. Takes too much concentration at the beginning to be sure you don't miss anything.

Personally I really enjoy Law and Order CI. I haven't seen any of the episodes with Jeff Goldblum, which is actually odd since I am a huge fan.I was bummed to hear about such a big shake up in cast change though. I just don't feel like it can survive it. To be far the orginal Law and Order went through cops like dirty socks but the changes seemed more small scale and not quite so often.

Thank God. Without D'Onofrio and Erbe the show was pretty bad. When Goldblum first entered, his strange persona was nice, and then the show just went down hill.

This show needs to end. It is so badly written Al Pacino couldn't make it interesting.

I too miss D'Onofrio and Erbe. I loved D'Onofrio's unique acting style. As good an actor as Jeff Goldblum is, he was not believable in the role of a cop. Most of the other actors in the various Law and Order series shows are very suited to their roles.

Ditto Sandy – Without D'Onofrio and Erbe the show is lacking the characher uniqueness/style which they brought to the show.
