Jennifer Hudson goes from size 16 to size 6You know those Weight Watchers commercials starring Jennifer Hudson, where she talks about winning at weight loss? It looks like the former "American Idol" contestant is far from all talk. Hudson, 28, landed the on the cover of InStyle Makeover, and she's showing off all of her hard work in a skintight banded dress. The actress went from a size 16 to a size 6. And if that seems like a lot of change, Hudson said she has a more radical urge to switch up her hairstyle.
“I’m actually thinking about shaving my head," Hudson admitted. "Because I feel I’ve got a good structure now [gingerly feels cheekbones]. My cousin’s a beautician, and she always tells me, ‘You could wear any hairdo.’ So I’m thinking, What if I shave my hair? Not completely off, but low. I think that would be so hot.” But her fiance and father of her nearly year-old son, David Otunga, may not take to her new 'do too kindly; he's still trying to adjust to her new physique, Hudson said. "David doesn’t like change. He tells me I have no breasts anymore. He tries to feed me," she said. In reality, though, Hudson is happy where she is now, and doesn't have plans to shed any more weight. "I don't want to lose any more weight, and you're never going to see me skinny," Hudson told the magazine. "I think this is a good, natural size for me." To read more about Hudson's transformation, pick up the new issue of InStyle Makeover, on newsstands Friday, August 6. |

I find it interesting that people on here keep saying that fat women want to lose weight for health reasons. The truth is that the majority of heavy women lose weight so they can get a man or so they can actually wear attractive clothes. People on here need to get real. NOBODY that "needs" to lose weight does it because they think they're unhealthy. If they cared about health they wouldn't have stopped paying attention to what they put in their mouths and they would never have gotten fat in the first place.
Whats up intelligent points.. now why did not i consider those? Off topic barely, is that this web page pattern merely from an odd installation or else do you utilize a customized template. I take advantage of a webpage i’m looking for to enhance and nicely the visuals is likely one of the key things to finish on my list.
I bet her fiance is more worried about her weight loss' effect on the balance in their relationship than he is about her breasts. When a woman loses a drastic amount of weight and suddenly is smoking hot (not that she wasn't before, but you know what I mean), the spouse often has a hard time dealing with it. Major insecurities seem to surface. Sadly, many men would prefer their girlfriends/wives to stay chubby because it's easier on their egos. I hope Jennifer's relationship can survive this. She looks great, is surely healthier, and deserves happiness. Way to go Jennifer!
OK people, I just wanna say that it's very common for people to resist change. Jennifer changed her body and 1/2 of society is happy for her, while the other 1/2 is angry that she didn't stay overweight. It doesn't matter. It is her body and her decision. BTW, I went from a size 20W at 5'5 (225lbs) to a size 8 (155lbs). I look so much better and feel healthier. When I was heavy and in denial, I hated thin people and I was just as defensive. I only looked into the mirror but never looked at actual photographs of myself with other people. Once you get tired of being the biggest one and you actually look at those photographs and see what you really are, you will finally get moving and take some action to lose weight. I can tell you that I love my body now and I'm pretty sure Jennifer loves her body now too. For others to say that she is too skinny or that they liked her better fat, obviously, is a cry for help from them that they are jealous and not satisfied with their own bodies. I was that way, too, when I was fat. VERY ANGRY AND DEFENSIVE. I also hated most men because I knew I could never meet their skinny standards. Funny thing is, most men find me attractive at this size. I assumed I would have to be a 0-4 size. I think a 6 or 8 looks good on me, but it is everyone's personal preference. Do it for yourself and stop being haters, Ladies!!!!!!!
Says Hudson: "I don't want to lose any more weight, and you're never going to see me skinny". Um...excuse me? Size 6 is skinny (coming form a size 6 person!!) No wonder girls in our society have messed up body issues....if celebrities are saying even a size 6 isn't skinny!
Jennifer you look better than ever, if you r happy with you self thats what really counts. Live and be
happy young lady.
I think most guys regret the loss in breast size when a woman loses weight. Jennifer looks great.
Now if she could learn to enunciate the English language...
She is still ugly and her stretch marks are excuse me ,i just threw up
Once she lose the contract her weight is going to triple!
As long as Jennifer lost the weight for the right reasons, then more power to her. She looks gorgeous; then again, she was beautiful before. You can see her confidence in these ‘after’ pictures but she must have been a very confident woman from the start to be able to shine in the Hollywood spotlight as a heavier woman.
On another note, weight discrimination is an extremely prevalent form of discrimination – and that’s pretty obvious from the comments on this board. People are totally open about their biases and there is no PC-ness in our society that would discourage them from being so. I think it’s human nature to compare yourself to others, find flaws, point them out and thereby elevate your own status. And of course, an overweight person is an easy target. Some people who have never dealt with a weight issue, think it's all black and white (i.e the just step away from the doughnut mentality). I have no patience and don't pay much attention to those people. They probably eat totally unhealthy foods and don’t exercise but are fortunate enough to have a metabolic structure that prevents them from picking up weight as quickly as others. That being said, if you are overweight, you need to take responsibility for actions and make changes if you want to be happier. There is no quick fix, no magic wand, just a lot of hard work.
A lot of the comments here are disgusting but they're honest in that they reflect the raw and real sentiment of many thin Americans. No wonder our society is f-uped. We push McDonalds to make money but then tell you in the same breath you're unsightly and need to lose weight so I don't have to look at your fat. That is why you have to lose weight for the right reasons. Not to satisfy society but to feel stronger, more energized and improve your health for your own well-being and that of the people who love you. Good luck Jennifer!
...is she saying that a size 6 is not skinny?
dang . . . she used to be drop dead gorgeous, now she looks . . . just skinny. Her face looks shrunken and drawn, and I am sure you can see her rib cage. Neither of which are attractive or necessary to be healthy. I doubt this is her body's natural weight.
I think she looks fine and I think Weight Watchers is wonderful but I think she comes across badly as a spokesperson...she sounds conceited and unfriendly!
JHUD Do what it do mama the hell with the haters and continue on your path of being beautiful as do I . lol I really think you'[re stunning and the effort it took you to get your weight under control. That alone is an accomplishment that deserves a big SHOUT OUT
Looking great and God bless
I don't know how they do it !! I am 5'8" and weigh approx. 123 lbs. and there is no way I can wear a size 6.
Where are they buying their clothes ? Europe ? I have to get a 10-12 to be comfortable.
Glena...
It's because all women are built differently. My ex was 5'7 115 and Asian, she wore a size 0. My ex-ex was 5'6 105, and wore a size 6 cuz she was Latina and Latin women have curves in different places.
If you are 5'8, 123 and wear a 10-12 that tells me you have a nice full round butt, and plenty have plenty of guys lookin down your shirt to check out those Small/full D's 🙂
Weight Watchers is a great tool....it teaches portion control and healthy choices.....however....Lets check this story in two years. Losing weight is easy, keeping it off is another.....I think she is beautiful either way.
"I encourage you to visit a vintage clothing store and try on a dress in that size from that era. You'll find it comparable to a *gasp* size *6* in today's fashions."
Uh...no. Not in the least is a size 14/16 from Marilyn Monroe's time frame equivalent to a size 6 today. That's full on stupid talking. Structure of clothing has changed, and vanity sizing has occurred, but Monroe was closer to a current day 10 than a 6. Also, bear in mind Marilyn (and other ladies of the era) wore very structured undergarments that held stuff in, propped it up and essentially created that hourglass shape that vintage dresses require. Today's figure has difficulty fitting into those garments not because they were "so much smaller" but because we don't wear girdles or corselettes.
I'm frightened by the hatred that has spewed from this article. Size 16 is NOT "morbidly obese" nor would I even consider it "fat". It definitely is not deserving of the bile that has erupted here. Track star healthy? Probably not. But nonetheless there are plenty of women who are size 16 who are completely healthy. Just as there are plenty of puking size 6's who are completely not. It's individual.
At the end of the day I'm curious why all of you care so much to invest such mean-spirtied comments. It's a sad commentary on how ugly society has become.
Very well said agwen. You are absolutely right! Size 16 is NOT fat! She may have been slightly overweight, but who cares! This blog proves how people like to put others down just so they can feel better about themselves.
I cannot believe Jennifer Hudson is being called a hypocrite because she lost weight! That was the same crap thrown @ Oprah years ago!
I think I'm on the photoshop bandwagon too. Let's not forget she also had a baby, so her stomach from being heavy and a baby would have needed some work. It would be different if she was naturally thin, like some of the other celebs, were their bodies go right back to it's natural shape.
Leave the girl alone! She is a public figure after all and most everyone wants to look their best whether they are a celebrity or not. Who cares what size dress she wears SHE LOOKS GREAT! If nothing else the weight lose has to be good for her health. Probably the only people who are being negative are the ones who are jealous and will not do anything to improve themselves. She is a lovely young lady who has recently experienced alot of pain and she deserves some joy in her life.
She Looks Freaking HOOOTTTT!!!
HURRY, STEP RIGHT UP to the WORLDS GREATEST AMUSEMENT PARK! "MARQUEE BLOG" MY FRIENDS, Where Liars tell more Lies, Losers are CEO's, every Sinner is a Saint, Weak ppl are Cyber Thugs, Haters complain about Haters, Capt 'n Save'em is now a Pimp, every Relationship is Loving & Secure, FAT PEOPLE IS SKINNY PEEPS (when they are re...ally fat Lonely & In......secure) so STEP right up people, YOU CAN BE WHATEVER YOU LIKE HERE....
Jennifer Husdon looks hot as HELL!! Her insecure boyfreind needs to either work out himself or find a fatty that can make him feel good about being overweight HIMSELF! What a bunch of losers. I'll bet house money that ANY woman in here knocking Hudson on losing weight is a chunky mess themselves who are in dinial. Hit the gym and make the EFFORT instead of EXCUSES !!!
I just hope Jennifer doesn't read your mean, hateful comments. My opinion is you are all jealous. The old proverb "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all".
Wow! I love you Jennifer! If I were single and 30 years younger I'd be on a first name basis with your bodyguards.
=)
Jratt
"And for anyone who said 40 lbs overweight is morbidly obese like its some sort of death sentence"
That's 18 kgs of extra fat?? OMG!! Of course its overweight you moron! if I put 18 kgs I would be 74 kgs (W*F??) that my dear "friend" is FAT. Size 16 is FAT and its UNHEALTHY!!! God you Americans have some real self-perception issues.. being FAT isn't the same as being curvy. FAT is FAT simple and done...
I found it so funny reading some of these comments, People are so negative for no reason..Why is it so easy to hate than it is to compliment? Females stop blaming men for your insecurities because they can only say what they like but you choose to either stay and deal with or move on..We all choose to be whatever weight we are and if you aint happy with what you are then fix it, their is so many outlets out there..Beautiful comes in all differnt shapes and sizes but you have to be happy with yourself so others can also..I've never seen hate helped anyone feel better about themselve or make them a better person..Being small comes with its flaws like being overweight does, we gotta work to maintain it.The great thing about life is that you can change it, so stop hating and do what you have to so you can be happy with yours..
Being obese is not fun, and ANYONE who says it is is a liar!!! You are not happy, insecure, and would change your body to what Hudson looks like now or better if it only took a fli[p of coin! ALL DIETS ARE JOKES!! ALL NUTRITION PROGRAMS ARE RIPOFFS!! People, it feels DARN good to be "NOT FAT", eating healthy and active. STOP ALL THE LYING THAT U R HAPPY AS A FAT PERSON!!
If you are over a 35 inch waist you are obese. Only in America can people look at someone and degrade them for getting healthy and saving their life. Obesity leads to diabetes, heart disease, strokes etc. If you can't celebrate her transformation then maybe you need to get the tape measure out yourself, then go to the doctor and have a check-up. If somebody quit smoking would you berate them for not being in the smoker's club anymore. People in this country are nuts.
@Cam,,I completely agree with you..I was always taught that if you aint got nothing good to say don't say nothing at all, these kolks need to learn that..
I think she had gastric bypass. She comes from a huge family and for her to have a flat stomach and tiny waste after being so big, is ridiculous! Probably also had a tummy tuck! Please!
She says "She'll never be skinny"? Are you kidding me! She should know better. Size 6 is skinny!
PHOTOSHOP!! Looking at the picture...her right side, between her hip and arm...they trimmed off inches there...doesn't look natural at all!!! FAKE
Wow..you people need to find a life.
Your post came through at 2:22am, and we need to find a life. You people are hilarious!!!!
Jennifer says she is happy at a size 6. I applaud her for that. She also says she will never be skinny. Ummmm. What exactly is SKINNY if a size 6 isn't it?!?! NO ONE in their right mind would not consider a size 6 to be skinny. Or at the very least, THIN. You wouldnt want to lose more weight because you would be anorexic at that point. Duh
OMG LMAO... Some of the comments on here are ridiculously funny. I could not stop reading them. Jennifer Hudson looked good at whatever size she was, and she still looks good. Congratulations to her for taking that next step to make you more happy about herself. I am a size 16, but is working on going down to my ideal weight which is 170lbs and I have 20 more pounds to go.
@Laurie- How does anyone sound fat over the internet? Me and my daughter thought that was just too funny because that sounds like something I would say.... LOL
@Farhibide- sweetie I don't know where you are shopping but I find a lot of stylish clothes for a size 16, and stylish workout clothing. I shop sometimes in the stores, but most of the clothes I wear come from offline, so maybe you need to check online as well.
What a typical MAN......."HE tells me I have no breasts anymore".......UGH!
She is a beautiful woman no matter what her size! I'd LOVE to see her with a short short haircut. Go for it Jennifer!!
No matter how much weight she loses, it's too bad she can never go from a 6 to 16 in the good looks category! U G L Y!
This is a heated post. We all know that healthy is better, of course! But we should all know by now that just because you're thin doesn't mean you're healthy. At 5'10 and size 14, I"m just fine, thanks. Long arms, long legs, not big in the breast, hips, or booty department. So...I'm not "curvy". And at size 16 which is what I was last year, I would still not be considered curvy, but overweight. Christina Hendrix is curvy. Jennifer H was curvy. Not all bigger women are curvy. There are different body types. Not sure if people ever think about that. No matter what size I am I would never be curvy, big or small. And size 6 is thin. Really it depends on your body type. At 5'10, medium frame, I'd look like walking death as a size 6.
Jennifer needs to tell her friends and such that breast do not make the woman, it is how they feel about themselves and not what other think
She's is now out of propoartion, her lips look even bigger. LOL
JRatt....there IS nothing attractive–physically– about a size 16 because you MUST have big thighs that rub together, a dangerously large waistline that is a sure indicator of future risk of heart disease and a high body fat percentage that will send you on your way to diabetes...would you like to tell me if you find THAT attractive?
Like I said earlier– ones' weight does not determine their worth as a human being, but if you REALLY love your GF ( who I am sure is a lovely person), you will want her to be around awhile and it is common knowledge how these excess weight negatively impacts health...and excess weight also affects self esteem. Any woman who says she is happy being fat is lying.
In my day a size 6 now was at least a 10. Besides I don't think she looks skinny at all, she looks healthy and that is what matters.
I think you mean the opposite, right? Are you saying standards were stricter back then and that in your day she would have looked like a cow? You are so insensitive.
She looks great and does not need to lose anymore. However, I feel that this will be another Oprah rollercoaster. Remember the times she woudl lose alot of weight, only to put it right back on? Being a former fatty, from size 18 to a size 10 and still a 10, I know how hard it is to keep it off. I wish her the best of luck keeping it off, but usually a drop from a size 16 to a 6 is usually back up to at least a size 12. Yes, I will wait and see; hopefully, the pure love of eating all of those "comfort foods" will not be her downfall like it was for Oprah and Kirstie Alley. Just look up Kirstie from years ago; she was as small or smaller than Jennifer.
Oh, I just went back up and read the jerk boyfriend's remark about her NOT having breasts. She still has plenty in the picture. If he thinks those are NOT breasts, I would love to have that much "non-breasts! LOL!
I agree with those who think she's a hypocrit. She came out all proud big and beautiful, perfectly happy with her size, blah blah that she didn't care about hollywood's expectations and what not and the first thing she did after having a baby is lose so much damn weight she is unrecognizable. For health reasons, she could have dropped 2 sizes but this is ridiculous weight loss for someone who was allegedly happy with their weight before. I have less respect for her now.
So here she is saying that "you will never see me skinny." I am a size 6 and I think I am quite fit and thin. If I am insulted I can imagine someone who is a size 8 being outraged!
It really depends on your height and frame. I'm 5'2" and I am overweight (BMI of 27) at a size 6-8. I'm curvy, so people don't seem to notice very much, but I have rolls and my thighs rub together. I'm working now to get back to a size 4, but I'd preferably be a size 2.
Terry..
" However, there is NOTHING ATTRACTIVE about a size 16"
Get off your high horse, nothing attractive? I find my girlfriend VERY attractive thank you very much. Just because you're narrow minded and socialized to think that doesn't mean its true.
And for anyone who said 40 lbs overweight is morbidly obese like its some sort of death sentence... That's just dumb. I can say without shame that I am 300 lbs and 6ft. I do not have a huge overhanging gut, and I feel great. My family has no history of heart problems, I have good cholesterol and blood pressure. I'd like to lose a few times, but I don't think of my weight as some great death sentence. Nor do I find myself unattractive, the fact that I have dated "skinny girls" and "fat girls" all just means that people have tastes when it comes to their partners.
And for the people calling her husband names.. She has changed a lot physically. Sorry, love is blind, but attraction tags right along side love. If you don't find your partner attractive it more than likely won't work out. Not saying he doesnt find her attractive, but if she doesn't look like the woman he married, he has the right to at least be a little upset. He will of course have to deal with it, but the difference between this, and say your wife or husband gaining 100 lbs is that they are going from skinny to fat, and to society and people being socialized to think that it's hideous, it makes them less attractive..
And Patrick, well said.
I think the comment that she doesn't want to lose anymore weight and "you'll never see me skinny" is sad excuse me? Is a size 6 not skinny? oh sorry that's thin not skinny
I think she should get her stomach stapled to prevent a regression back to a size 16. Frankly, anything more than a size 6 on someone at average female height begins to look rolly and ghastly. Most women speak of "curvy" and men "liking meat on their thighs" because they are too lazy and lack the determination to eat right and exercise. It is a cop out. Men, aside from those with fetishes, like healthy and lean women – not blobs of crap.
SHE WAS VERY BEAUTiFUL AT THE SiZE 16 BUT SHE iS STiLL PRETTY. iTHiNK iTS CUTE HOW HER HUSBAND LiKED HER SiZE AT 16 !!
I am not a thin person but I have played the yoyo diet game my entire life & I'm happy with myself. I am a healthy person & have no health problems besides the fact that a Doctor puts me in the over weight factor, big deal, I don't have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or any other problem that affects me. Jennifer is a strong woman & deserves every bit of happiness she wants to go after & if it's being skinny well good for her as long as she's doing it healthy & it makes her happy with herself because that's all that matters not what anyone in this world thinks matters, everyone has an opinion. I live in a state where most women are probably a size 7 up & freaking beautiful..NOT size 0 or 3 or 5 but the average woman in this state has got some curves...
so many fat people, so much to say, so little space to say it all. I like bigger girls.....they try harder.
Guys don't make passes at girls lackin' fine assets.
Tell you what...Jennifer did a great thing, lost a lot of weight and toned up. Now, what does her day consist of? Does she go to work like the average Jane or Joe for 8 – 12 hours and come home exhausted and have yet to do chores at home or even more office work at home? Do we see her with a basket of clothes under one arm and the kid under the other, throwing laundry in at 8:00 p.m. while doing dishes from the dinner she had to slap together for the famlily? Face it, her good work was assisted by trainers, personal chefs, restaurnts who would cater to a star's wishes and Weight Watchers paying her to do so. In short – IT AIN'T THAT EASY TO DO WHAT SHE DID WHEN YOU CANNOT DEVOTE ALL OF YOUR ATTENTION AND TIME TO IT. Yes, money does buy happiness and, apparently, a healthy body weight. She looks great; hope her chef keeps her diet up and her trainer keeps her toned up because that's all that counts – how you look. And, Terri, there is nothing attractive about a size 16? Tell that to millions of Marilyn Monroe fans, because she hit that mark. Give me a break, here!
Do your homework. Marylin Monroe was never more than 145 lbs (at her largest) was 5'6" (I believe) and if she were alive today instead of in the 40's, 50's and 60's she would never have been bigger than a size 6. A size 16 in the 60's is a size 6 today (it's called vanity sizing). Marylin's normal weight (the one you see in all the photo's and movies) was around 115-120 and would be a size 2-4 today. Just food for thought.
Jennifer looks great before and after IMHO! 🙂
....She IS skinny now....at least, that's what the most-likely-photoshop magazine cover shows.
This may surprise some of y'all but not all men like skinny women. As a matter of fact I think skinny women look sick, like malnorished. The man married the woman when she was big so he got what he wanted. Now Jennifer gone and changed on him, she looks like a totally different woman. If he wanted a different woman he could have gone out and gotten one. Keep it around 8 -10 Jennifer, that way both of you get what you want.
She looks great. But any man who is a body builder himself, or claims to be really into fitness, usually doesn't go for heavy girls unless they think they can change them. I don't believe for a MINUTE that he isn't caring much for the weight loss. One the contrary – he is LOVING it and she is just saying that to make it look like it was all her idea. NOT!! I wonder what he would have done to New York had she became his woman LOL
Wow... She says "you will never see me skinny". Size 6 is skinny. I hope the fashion world realizes that some day soon. Size 6 is not fat, especially when you're nearly 6 feet tall.
Who is she? Should i care about her? Did Oprah have a kid
She looks terrible in this picture!... Can you say photoshop!!!!
Wow! Some of you are really shallow and unkind. Maybe you're not fat, but definitely ugly.
Size is relative right... it's about someones frame right... stop the act. Since womens sizes are just numbers and most people don't know the measurements that correlate with each size think about it this way. the difference between a size 12 and a 16 is about the same as a man buying a pair a jeans with a 34 inch waist and a man who buying a pair with a 40 inch waist. The man buying the 34 he may or may not be in the best shape depending on his frame, The man buying the 40 inch waist isn't in good shape. no matter what height or frame. The next time your shopping go ahead sneak a peak a the mens pants and find a 40 waist and you'll see for yourself, it looks like oversized baby clothes. So ladies just get to a size 12 or even 14. on one is going to hate on the 36 inch waist guy who's a little overweight. Just don't walk around in a size 16 micromini and expect the world not to think it's gross and unhealthy. good job Jennifer! a size 6 is a great healthy size to be.
Of course in our society if a woman is anything larger than a size 6, she's worthless.
I guess everybody has a different viewpoint of what 'skinny' and 'fat' are...which is why there is a 'range' of what is considered to be normal. However, there is NOTHING ATTRACTIVE about a size 16, just like there is nothing attractive about a man with a 40" waist! We can do the politically correct thing all day long and call it 'curvy' and 'plus size' and 'women's sizes' and mens 'big and tall', but yet we call women who are smaller than the 'average' size of 14 ( 14! ...if that is average, we are in BIG trouble!) "skinny"...sounds like reverse discrimination to me! Before you beat me up over that, let me just say that being overweight has NOTHING to do with intelligence or value as a human being, any more than being blonde would mean you are 'dumb'... those are stereotypes. I would not walk up to someone and say 'hey, did you know you are overweight'?...not my place to do that...but if Jennifer Hudson feels better at a size 6 than a size 16, whats with all the naysayers? I'll bet they are also size 16's who feel 'betrayed', as if she 'sold out' when in reality, she did what they have yet to do...
I was taught if you can't say something nice then say nothing at all. Why can't people still remember that? She looks great now and looked great before and I hope that she is happy with whatever her weight is. Beauty is on the inside. Happiness comes from within.
Oprah made the news when she lost weight, too. So did Alli. Why is this news?
I guess the fiance doesn't like saggy boobies.
I don't think that she lost this much weight using Weight Watchers, she probably had the lap band procedure. Anyway, she looks healthy, glowing, and beautiful. She's an inspiration.
Let's take the gallons of paint off her face and see how hot she is
Reading some of these comments by women, it's no wonder men don't want to be in relationships anymore.
Its called Breast Implants David! Now go get'em done Jennifer, do something nice for your fiance!
i didn't realize that a size 6 wasn't skinny...
wow...hmm..the irony is she looked better before, her head is now disproportionately larger than her body...please gain the wait back girl, you were hot before.
Her head is still huge.
You Go Girl! Looking so good.
Stop talking about the word SKINNY. Skinny is a word that is used in many ways. So please be smart enough to know when someone is talking about Skinny as in not fat and skinny as in crazy thin. she is not saying she is still fat, she is saying that she doesn't want to be scrawny. Read what the woman said and stop trying to think of what she meant to say. She her own voice and She used it.
What make people thank because you are thin you are healthy all thin people is not, they have problems to so thank
before you speak and the sister looks good but please don't shave your head and stay thin not skinny.
I feel her fiancee.. breasts are a lot of fun! If he likes curvy women he has a right to be disappointed.
I'd hit that 😉 . Perhaps she was "happy" with her size before, but now as she has grown up and has a kid and fiance, she has educated herself to the health factors of being overweight. Perhaps she wants to be able to go to the park and play with her kid(s) and wants to live to 70 instead of 50 because of her kids. Maybe she meant when she was "happy" that she wasn't going to change just "for Hollywood"...I lost 50 some odd pounds a few years ago, going from 205 to 150 and found that it is hard work to keep it off, I put back on 15 lbs and am comfortable and find maintaining this weight less work, perhaps she was afraid of the effort before, but now with her lot in life, she is willing to make the effort. Either way, she looks freaking amazing.
I am an athlete. Second degree black belt, avid runner, weight lifter, college soccer/lacrosse player and swimmer. I have always been a size 10; even with VERY healthy eating habits (vegan, no sweets) and the tons of exercise I never went below 125lbs. or a size 10. Sometimes the way God made you is the way God made you.
I think she's always looked hot. I'd plug her at size 16 or 6. Engaged to a pro wrestler? Wonder how long that marriage will last with the "roid" rages.
You can't judge the size of a person on just size. 16 may seem huge to some, but it depends on your body type and frame. I am only 5'2 and at my smallest, I wore a size 3/4 and weighed 121 pounds. I actually wore a smaller size, but weighed more than I had 4 years before (I was 117lbs, size 7/8). Had I lost anymore weight at that point, I would have been unhealthy and emaciated. As it was, friends and family told me I was too thin. Over the years my weight fluctuates, but I realize that if I eat right and excerise I'll be healthier and thinner. When I slack off, I pay for it. So it's really a personal lifestyle choice.
So please, people...don't judge someone on their size or weight. People have different bone structure and body type. And if you have natrual DD boobs...I'm sure they weigh much more than A cups. Lots of factors, folks.
And lastly, pictures are not very revealing. Unless you've laid your own eyes on the person you don't know what they really look like. Cameras can be very unflattering and pictures can be photoshopped.
Who cares?
All of you "haters" are pathetic. She has done what all of you only wish you could do! Congratulations, Jennifer! You look great!
1) this photo has been RADICALLY altered & 2) if she really IS a size 6, i'm a size -0-..it ain't a happenin' thing!
I'm willing to bet most of the people with the nasty comments on here DON"T LOOK half as good as Jennifer no matter how much she weighs. Get real you idiots.
Win Win i Win Win Winnnn
DAMN THE GIRL LOOKS GOOD! IM SO PROUD OF HER TO HAVE STUCK TO HER GOALS AND ACHIEVED THEM AND IM GLAD SHE DECIDED TO STAY AT A WEIGHT SHE FEELS COMFORTABLE IN , INSTEAD OF TRYING TO FIT INTO HOLLYWOODS IDEA OF THIN SIZE 00 .. GOOD FOR YOU JENN YOU SURE INSPIRED ME!
she just looks unhealthy. all lips now
OOOOOOOOOOOH GOD!!!!!!! Men love big lips
She is still nasty and at 5'9, 160, she was grossly obese.
She is so hot I could eat her up.
She'll gain it back in 2 years....but she's attractive at any size
Just because the Average size in America is 12-16 does not make it healthy. If your doctor says you are 40lbs + overweight you are; fat, obese, morbidly obese. No one said you had to be a size 0 or 6 to be considered not fat. Just do not be overweight. Overweight people are a drain on health insurance because they are the first to develop serious health conditions that could have been prevented with an hour a day workout and putting down the big mac they eat 3-5 days a week!
We all know the big stink that was made of her size when she was on Idol, and now that she is doing movies she needed to meet the Hollywood Standard. Money will make and help you do things, to get it and keep it !!!
Personally I like Jennifer more with meat on her bones, I likem thick.
Actually, folks, this is not news (and, before you jump to conclusions, I'm not hatin' on Jennifer at all – LOVE what she's done with herself – gratz, girlfriend!). What I mean by that statement is, this piece isn't breaking NEW "news" ...
For the record, it was, in fact, the cover story on People magazine's May 31 issue (which I'm lookin' at on my desk right now – just haven't had time to read the whole thing yet). So my question is, how come marquee.blogs are only just gettin' the memo NOW????
Since People broke the story over 2 months ago already, marquee.blogs should change the category of this article to "olds", cuz it sher as hell ain't "news" ... 😉
Is it me? Or does anyone else agree that this is a scream for help in the lost of her mother, brother, and nephew. And the shaving of the hair is another "Brittnay Spears" outcry for help. I've been deeply depressed and I too went from 132lbs to 109lbs ppl thought it was on purpose but no one knew how I suffered inside.
"I don't want to lose any more weight, and you're never going to see me skinny," Hudson told the magazine. Um...wait...a size 6 ISN'T skinny???? o-k-a-a-a-y.
Did everybody not notice the ridiculous comment at the bottom of this article? She said she "would never be skinny", I'm sorry, is size 6 not considered skinny anymore? What a brainless woman, it's our job to empower each other, not make stupid comments
The fact that some of the previous posters seem to think they are just the most intelligent around, when the less popular film makers are showing you every chance they get what is being put into, grow around, sprayed on, injected into food. This is no accident; people's weight is not just a personal eating problem. Do you all watch the news, read a paper, articles on the web about the enhancing of foods? It doesn't dissipate when you cook your food. You’re eating all of these enhancing agents.
I don't see anybody addressing some of the real issues; they just want to try to tear people down. Educate yourself, your ignorance is showing.
Since when has size 6 NOT been skinny??? Is everyone crazy? To stay in a size 6 you can't eat much so where is your nutrition coming from.
My girlfriend wears size 1 pants.
She eats everything in sight.
It's called eating proper foods, whole foods, nutritious foods, and not the crap you see on TV.
You've been duped by society and corporate food companies, as well as the medical
professions who make more money off of a fat, unhealthy society.
You only need enough flesh to cover your bones and provide muscle.
Anything else is superfluous.
That's assuming everyone is the same body time. Some people would have to OVER eat to achieve a size 6. When I'm healthy (not eating too little but eating fruits, vegetables, chicken, fish, etc.) my jeans are a size two, and that's without working out. Yet one of my best friends eats very healthy and works out more than I do and she still can't get down to a size six.
type* not time!
If your girlfriend is eating everything in sight, I don't care what it is, she would gain if she didn't have a naturally high metabolism and good genes. Think before you speak, your ignorance is showing.
@Get Real People: If his girlfriend ate everything in sight she would get sick. I think his point was that she doesn't have to lack nutrition to be small. Sayings such as "everything in sight" are never meant to be taken literally. YOUR ignorance is showing.
Tim, if you can read and comprehend, he said everything in site, meaning she can eat what she wants and stays a size 1, and say it's bull. Your ignorance is showing.
Ahh the bull crap weight argument....I've been a 0 in high school, a 4/6 in my early 30's and now I'm a 14 in my early 40's. I used to exercise like crazy..... Funny how having a child, heridity and age play such a huge role in a body changes. I'm still super healthy, pulse 55, blood pressure 90/50..walk and strength train daily. Hate to tell you but we were not all here to look alike and your body will settle in the weight it is most comfortable.
I'm so happy for her; she looked beautiful even at size 16 so I'm glad that she's taking all this with a pinch of salt. She totally gives me inspiration since I am currently at her old weight and I'm currently in Weight Watchers.
Fat women are so gross.
Yucko !!
All women should look like Jessica Alba.
The only ones that chase the BONES are the DOGS!!
@Jay: too bad not even the fat ones will give you the time of day and the ones who look like Jessica Alba wouldn't even bother wasting their time looking at you.
I can't believe that it is considered somehow socially incorrect to say that someone who is a Size 16 should lose weight. I'm not encouraging everyone to aspire to be a Size 0 or 2 – a Size 6 is a wonderful weight, and it will hopefully lead to Jennifer Hudson having less of a chance of obesity-induced medical problems in the future.
IMHO it is time for this country to encourage people to maintain healthier weights and lifestyles when possible! Jennifer Hudson was capable of losing her excess weight, and she did – that is hard work, and it is commendable. Whether she looked "better" as a Size 16 isn't really important – she looks HEALTHIER as a Size 6, and I hope that people who are physically capable of losing weight (I understand that some people are actually unable to, which is different) are inspired to follow her example.
You do realize....you sound pitifully pathetic.
I think she sounds perfectly rational...
I completely agree with you! Now if we can just remove the fear of hurting everyone's feelings and get back to reality kids now days wouldn't have this "everyone owes me everything and I'm perfect" mentality. Truth hurts sometimes- that's what gives you drive to be a better person.
And @ Carefree Spirit- you only think she sounds pathetic because you are a fat person (or enabling some fat person) who is too lazy to do anything about your (or their) weight other than justify it. I'm telling you this in hopes you'll use it to become a better person. I'm sure you won't though.
Now lets see how many tool boxes will just read this, find some grammar or spelling error and say I'm stupid or some other lame comment.
PS. Jennifer looks fine now, stop trying to make her fat so you all can feel better about yourselves. Selfish people!
Bryan
Spartacus, atleast if you are going to be a jerk, learn how to spell and type. Its BROAD, you dumb a**!! As far as the insult to our intelligence, that would be YOU!!

Spartacus was gay....

I JUST ABSOLUTELY LOVE AMERICA
in it we have people like these two above who slammed me not for calling Jennifer Hudson a "Broad" noone cares about but for not spelling the word "Broad" right. this is how intlligent the two I quoted above are and if you read through all of the posts herein you can see about 400 just like them.
the other slammed the name I used "Spartacus" for being GAY lol....this IS AMERICA
if you want to line up to praise Jennifer Hudson for doing something that boils down to a personal and private choice which is noone elses business, fine, go ahead, it's your right
countless black women with butts the size of a Buick are joining the latest fads and crazes to lose the weight they themselves put on from over eating or eating improperly and thousand upon thousands of visits to their favorite restaurant...wich lets face it, in most cases...is..."McDonalds".
She has zero talent, anyone with any self respect doesn't give a crap what weight Jennifer Hudson is...and I think it appalling that she wants to celebrate how fat she used to be and will be again real soon, just like her hero and every one else who thinks like her...OPRAH...who comes from no good place to be discussing weight with anyone on this earth given her own track record with it.
as for my Intelligence, I am intelligent enough to know that EVERBODYS WEIGHT IS THIER OWN BUSINESS AND NOONE ELSES, and that what Hudson is doing is nopt onl;y CHILDISH AND IMMATURE, but it is because she has zero frikking talent and needs to do this to draw attention to herself if she wants to work.
GROW UP !
You typed all that just to exhibit to us once again why people were attacking your intelligence...
...thanks...
..."she has zero frikking talent...". Wow, Spartacus, you sure are one ignorant hater, who obviously hasn't seen "Dreamgirls" yet. You should. Jennifer has one of the best singing voices around. How about YOU get up in front of millions of people and belt out a tune or two, huh? Then we'll see who has "zero frikking talent... ;@
@ SPARTACOUS..Are you being serious?? Cause I fail to believe that you have the nerve to be mad cause these people questioned your inteligence and you came you tried to insult them but only proved them right that you're an ingnorant person..Your right it is a persons business whether they want to loose weight our be fat. But America is they way it his becasue instead of supporting, you'd rather criticize and find ways to talk bad about some one in other words hate..How about you find a life instead of coming on here with your negativity..
Breasts are way overrated.
Small to medium is the perfect size.
Who needs women with those big udders hanging around, even worse as they get older.
Totally gross, dude.
Tiny breasts are sooooo hot.
Over the years sizing has CHANGED. I am now (after dieting) 125 and have size 4 shorts. When I got married at 109 pounds I was size 8. I have no delusions. The manufacturers have just changed the labels. We are all too fat. Stop rationalizing it.
ahhh, i just want her to be happy, but i loved her thick and curvy...from a sista girl.
Jennifer please stop! you should put some weight back on. should be around size 10/12.
Everyone is getting caught up in the numbers! Clothing sizes differ and so does weight. I saw a comment from someone who is a size six and would feel fat and miserable at 150. Welll, I am a size 6 and am 145, pretty close to 150. I am perfectly happy with my size and weight (two completed marathons in the last 8 months – I feel good). You can't judge someone's skinniness by their weight at dress size. Height, muscle tone and body type make up a lot. Just be healthy, fit, and exercise and forget about comparing the number on the scale or the tag to the woman next to you because I guarantee it doesn't mean a thing!
Wait? Is a size 6 not skinny? I am a size 8/10 (up from the 6/8 I was a year ago) and I looked plenty skinny enough when I was trying on clothes yesterday. As long as she feels good about herself and treats her body well, then it doesn't matter what size she is!
I agree about being on the cover at size 16! Why not?
And let us not forget, she lost family members last year to murder. The weight lost could be contributed to the stress of that lost.
well I think she looks outstanding!! I just recently went from a size 18 to a size 9, lost 5 band sizes and one cup size on my bra and I wore a bikini at the beach for the first time in 15 years. I have never felt so good or so bad about myself in years. some days I think I was more comfortable being overweight. That being said I hate looking at lumpy fat on myself or anyone else for that matter. i am always amazed at the number of overweight kids i see every day (i work at a restaurant) and their parents will order them all manner of fried foods and sugary sodas, sometimes two kids meals for one kid, two? I cannot even finish one and I am a grown adult. I waited on two people with a toddler a couple weeks ago, they each had to be 300 plus pounds and they actually ordered a basket of onion rings "for the baby" onion rings? what kid under the age of two eats onion rings? the baby only ate the fried breading, and drank a slushie, made with sugar syrup and soda. This kid is gonna be overweight, diabetic and have hellacious acid reflux before she gets to kindergarten. I think people ought to be more conscious about the way their bodies look, and part of that means being more conscious of what they put into their bodies as well, the american mentality that bacon is a condiment and fried foods are healthy as long as what's under the breading is a vegetable, is killing us, all of us. they actually have chewable lipitor for children with high cholesterol, why would a child have high cholesterol? because their parents are teaching them ridiculous bad habits. Obesity isn't nature except in the rarest of cases, it is nurture all the way.
Um, I kind of agree with you. I have horrid eating habits, but I work way harder on my toddlers diet than on mine. On the other hand, if you just recently lost weight, then who are you to judge us fatties? Man.
In reality, though, Hudson is happy where she is now, and doesn't have plans to shed any more weight. "I don't want to lose any more weight, and you're never going to see me skinny," Hudson told the magazine. "I think this is a good, natural size for me."
Huh? I thought a size 6 WAS skinny? Guess not in Hollywood. Last time I wore a size 6, it had a "T" after it. To get BACK to a size 6, I'd have to live on kitchen fumes and cocaine. Sheesh.
Back in the days of Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russel, size 10 to 12 was normal and curvey. But since 1967/1968 on the introduction of "Twiggy" super skinny have become and still is the norm. I am of Caribbean descent and I will never go back to a size 0, 2, 4; even a size 6 is unaceptable. I am 5'3"/5'4" at 140lbs size 8 to 10 and I feel like a natural woman and better than when I was those Barbie Doll size. I wish I hips would spread a little bit more
i think size 16 Hudson was hotter.
I concur. I'm glad she put forth the effort to lose the weight if that was her desire, but if I could pick her size, I'd much rather her be around sizes 8 to 10...
ewwwwwwwwwwwwww. Now she can walk up a flight of stairs and not feel like her lungs are going to blow up!
While she looks fantastic, that picture looks completely photoshopped and nothing like how she looked on Entertainment Tonight just yesterday! Apparently it wasn't enough that she lost weight and looked fabulous, they had to make her "skinnier". Typical. And don't they realize most of us are smart enough to detect a photoshop job when we see one?
OMG it is just SO OBVIOUS this woman had a bariatric procedure (gastric bypass) – she didn't do any kind of diet! If you people believe she did it the hard way (exercise and eating right) you are all seriously deluded. From size 16 to size 6 – just like that? Get a grip on reality!
As I mentioned above. I lost 40lbs in 4mths on Weight Watchers. Size 18 down to 8/6. "Obviously" it CAN be done, by real-life people, without surgery.
Yeah, I like a little green on my carrot top too !
Do you think the BMI scale is accurate? Let's see, I am 5 ft 10in and weigh 235lb; I'm I obese?
You are the fattest thing around, Lardo...
In some instances it is not, It does not take into account muscle mass, so If you are 5'10" and working out with wieghts and have good muscle thickness it will say that you are obese.
Yep, you're a lard ass.
You should be in the 150 area, give or take a few.
There you have it, I have virtually no fat on me (I run 5 miles every morning a workout 3 – 4 time a week) unless you are a marathon runner I am probably in better shape than you are. No she was not obese, she didn't like the way she looked because people like most of you and the media convinced her that she did not look good to them (that's speculation I admit but what else could it be), the majority of MEN thought she was beautiful, definitely the marrying kind.
According to the BMI I am overweight being 5'7 at 160 pounds but i am down to a size 6. I exercise 4 days a week with weights. GO figure.
Photoshop for sure. I see her in the WW commercial and though she's in the shadows and doesn't get up, you can still see her thighs and butt are "big".
(BMI = kg/m2). thats the formula to tell if you are obese, usually if you weigh more than 30% of your ideal weight then by the journal of american medicine, you know the law of the american medical field then your considered obese. the law the fact, now use the formula to get the real correct answer yourself. SHEEPLE.
Yes but the BMI test does not take into accound the amount of muscle mass a person has, therefore it will say that an athelete is obese and an elderly person is normal weight eventhough they have little muscle mass. Really the best test to determine how healthy someone is, is to have a Hydrolisis test where you lie in a pool of water on a scale and blow out your oxygen. Fat raises to the top and muscle because of it's density sinks. when I did this test I was 218 lbs and 5'11" I measured at 18.9% body fat, the BMI scale said that I was 30.3%.
I think she looks great and healthly, good for her
I have always thought that men (mostly me I admit) like women with curves, she was absolutely Beautiful as a 16, now she is just a cute girl with a big head.
The thing that hits me the most about her weight loss is at the end she stated that she likes her new size but she will never be "skinny"–what, is size 6 not "skinny" these days? I guess you're only "skinny" if your anorexic these days. I admire her for the hard work it must have taken to lose the weight, but I think that there is way too much focus on body weight, it's sad 🙁
Gotta be honest, I kinda like the curvy version better.
must suck to lose all that weight and then have your face look weirder
Glad she wants to be healthy~~She looks awkward now~~she looks betta thick!! Jus like Al Roker should put on a few pounds cuz he looks like a crackhead now!!
Weight Watchers rules! My wife has lost 30 pounds and our son 90 on the system!
All I can say is that she looks great...how much money did she pay to look the way? Not a dime I would guess...so why don't they put a everyday person in one of the commericals...You know every company that has a life style change or DIET which is what it really is tell you how much you can lose but you say to yourself do I buy my meds, pay the gas bill, or even buy food, or do I get the produts I need to loss the weight... YEAH RIGHT
She makes me sick. Always talked about how she was happy with her fuller figure. Always said she wouldn't change a thing. Nice way to sell out like everyone else...congrats now you are just a f'ing pupppet. Hope you get divorced when your husband realizes just how fake you are.
She was probably doing what most fat chicks do when they are fat. All fat chicks say they're happy fat, but none of them ever are.
My view is simple: Jennifer, BE HAPPY, BE YOURSELF & BUT BE CAREFUL!
If you're not familiar with medical terms, I'd highly advise not throwing around words like "morbid obesity". This woman was never obese. Feel free to consult a dictionary or your doctor if you have any further questions about what obesity and morbid obesity actually is.
It's bigger, better, faster and it's killing us. You have to eat something sometime and it all has been enhanced in some way by chemcials. Stop being ignorant about what's being put in food and just trying to blame it on the lack of people's ability to control what and how much they eat. It's a little deeper than that folks!!!!
BMI calculators are available on the net. She had a BMI of 28.1 (overweight but no obese) if she was 190 lbs and 5'9". BMI 20-25 is good. 25-30 is overweight. 30-40 is obese and 40 or greater is morbid obesity. You need height and weight to calculate it. With advancing age, the body fats naturally increases. Additionally, overweight people tend to become obese, so its always best to make effort to reduce it. -ObGyn, MD
Being overweight has the lowest instance of death according the same study by the CDC, Jennifer Hudson may not have been in danger even if she stayed at the same weight. As a doctor, you should understand the faults of the BMI test. If Clinton Portis or Michael Jordon came into your office the BMI test would say that they were obese eventhough they are professional atheletes. At the same time if an elderly person came into the same office the BMI test would consider themselves normal.
Plus what is offen forgot when these statements are made is the activity level of some people in morbid group are typically low as well as many of them having other poor health habits. How many of them smoke? Drink, Do drugs, suffer from Mental issues or get less than 6 hours of sleep a night. These factors contribute to poor health as much as their weight number would.
I'm a senior and sizes are deceiving. 30 years ago there was no size 0. Today's size 0 is actually a size 5 or 7. Today's size 9/10 was a 14/16 in my day. A size 14 today is for a plus size women, an obese woman! My 28" waist jeans from the 1970's were a size 9! To the Dutch commentor: too many carbs for me!!
You have to be crazy to say a size 14 is for an "obese" woman. What the heck are you doing with jeans from the 70's? Time to stop hoarding and get yourself a new pair.
Cmon, she said this is a good natural weight for her...cmon son!! Who told her to say that? Look at her family, the natural weight in her family is not a "natural 6". Her family is on the large side or were on the large side. Beginning with childhood all the way into adulthood. Look at how big her sister is??....come on J-hud!!! Miss me with this "hollywood" bullcrap they are pitching to you!
TO @ A Different Sarah
I may be fat but I know the difference between your and you're. : p I won't call you hateful, just stupid.
These celebrities live in a different world, anything more than a size 2 is obese. And if you think it's a good message to send to these young girls who are starving themselves literally to death, then you are just as reckless as the industry.
As much as we would all like to think that the picture they're painting is the be all and end all it's not. It's a unhealthy way of life. In order for many of us to be a size 0 or 2, we would have to quit our jobs and move into the gym. Do you all realize that, that's what many of these people do, they don't live normal lives, they have personal trainers, nutritionists, chefs, and the weight (no nun intended) of celebrity on them.
So for all of the people who are hell bent on being ignorant, judgmental, and down right nasty, you need to figure out why your so unhappy about the skinny size 2 that you are. Or better yet, thank your heritage for your genes and the fact that you could possible be naturally thin.
I have many friends who can eat as much as they want, as often as they like, never exercise and are still a size 4 (considered overweight in today’s standard, which is just downright crazy), and if I even watch them eat that crap I gain 5 pounds. So for the people who are spewing your hate and rhetoric, people’s metabolisms and genetic makeup have a lot to do with the weight they carry. Don't get me wrong, if you are out here doing whatever you want and not watching and exercising it's on you. But to make a generalized statement that "fat people" are lazy, don't exercise, and whatever some of the other small minded comments I've read.
And my last comment, watch Food Inc. and you tell me why everyone is gaining weight and are having a hard time getting off. Because that chicken breast you just broiled versus fried was shot up with growth hormones, and where do you think it goes when you eat it.
I don't agree that she needs a nose job...i think it's fine, seems to fit her face...unlike now, where her body doesn't...not well proportioned...with all the hoop-la (is that how it's spelled?), I hope she can maintain it...It has to be tough, with this not being her normal size she will undoubtedly be a see-saw with weight. Your body generally regulates your size if you maintain a steady, routine diet, so if she was doing that at 5'9"/190, that's her normal size...her kids will still be fat.
Great, now we have to look at alll her stretch marks....
Jennifer looks awesome but I think she would have been great at a size 10....this obsession with "skinny" women is ridiculous!! I'm a size 8/10 and love it. A size 6....a bit too much! Keep the curves ladies, the men love it!!!
so awsome you could go on the computer with a picture of yourself and just add other hair do's to see what you look like before you cut cut cut
I don't really see how someone's body or weight is anyone else's concern :-/
I'm with David – put back on 15 or 20 pounds and you'll be perfect. But you're fabulous either way!
I'm gay.
So...........And..........We should care because?????
You eat right and exercise and you will come down to the weight you should be. That is what she did, so a size 16 was too big. Doesnt get more complicated than that.
exactly. simple math.................intake minus exhaust.
the sad truth is people do not think like that. they dont think long term. they just think how happy they will be after they have un-hinged their jaw and swallowed a plate of cookies.
All of you have no life...going on and on about this weight loss. Ohhh..Ahhh. Who cares...Fatmerica!
She looks great! @Marie you must be fat.
Yes, anybody who doesn't think that skinny is automatically gorgeous must be 300 pounds OMG!!!! It is completely impossible for someone who is a size 4 to have any other opinion!! If you think someone who is fat isn't hideously ugly, you must be fat yourself!!!
She was cuter when she was bigger.
first of all congratuate you because you look good and I respect that if jennifer can do it you can too
money or no money you can do it if jennifer happy we all should be happy love you (barbara)
What no swimsuit shot???
whats the deal with her being a size 6 and saying, "you'll never see me skinny,". A size 6 looks different on different people, of course, but 6 is skinny. I was a little sad to read her quote.
Money can do wonderful things for your looks. Who cares.
I have the mag and looking at her pictures in the magazine compared to the front cover, well it's a difference. The front cover surely has touches. The pictures in the magazine looks more genuine, a little bit heavier than the cover but we all know how healthy hands have a tendency to airbrush front covers, why is this, I'll never understand; she still has lost weight so why airbrush. It's a wonder why women struggle with weight. Also why do women compared themselves to certain people in magazines because such people lose weight do to affording high level items like personal trainer,
people to cook or deliver their meals, special attention, I mean most people just don't live like this, so why brag on someone loosing weight as if she walked two miles and went from 16-6, Tired hearing such stories.
I think she looks sick. I don't know why so many women who are big-boned think that they look good when they look sick. She should be at least a size 10 for her structure. And yeah her husband should be shoving food down her throat. It's great that she can be healthy thin and be able to keep up with her little baby son, but it is way better to have some meat on your bones. Take it from me the Skinny Biatch. I used to be a Size 1 and now I am a Size 6 and love my curves.
Big – boned? I dont recall ever seeing a fat skeleton. it amazes me how many excuses people have to stuff their faces and take more food than they need. pure gluttony and selfishness driving up food and medical costs. Have fun at your all you can eat buffet. after all its only $4.99 so make sure you get your moneys worth like pigs at a trough.
I am glad that she took the weight loss challenge and won....serves as motivation to others. HOWEVER... What concerns me most is David's comments...how insensitive – bottom line he probably does not like the additional attention Jennifer is getting...considering he has not real talent of his own...oh right....REALITY TV STAR.
Good for her! She is an amazing singer and looks beautiful now!
Marie, are you KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDING me?! 5' 9" and 190 pounds isn't classified as obese? a healthy weight for a woman of that height is 130-160lbs. She was 30lbs over the HIGH end of that estimate. Not classifying 30 pounds over a healthy weight as obese proves the downward spiral that our standards in normalcy have taken.
Congrats to Jennifer Hudson (whoever she is) for losing the weight. With the right amount of work and willpower, anyone can lose this amount of weight. Too many Americans, however, choose not to.
@Chimpy: check the BMI charts. That height and weight is considered "overweight." Not obese, not morbidly obese. That's not me, that's the medical establishment talking. Or do you have a medical degree? I highly doubt it.
At 5'9", 190 lbs that would put her at the high end of overweight. Just Google the charts to confirm. However, I find any system that does not differentiate between male and female, well, lacking. I think we can all agree that a man at 5'9" 190 lbs is much different than a woman at the same weight. The man could be in perfect fitness, carring much muscle, while the woman would be considered obese, at least in the eyes of most people outside of the U.S.
I think the better measure is to calculate the percentage of body fat. That excludes the frame size and amount of muscle. However, with Americans being so out of shape, any measure that makes people think is better than what is happening.
They also say obesity is costing 150 billion dollars a year. Any ideas how to motivate people to stay thin? Good luck.
You look great Jennifer! You are so pretty.
OMG JEN! You look amazing! Bravo for you. I never care about someone's weight as long as they are happy and healthy. If a size 6 does it for you...YOU GO GIRL.
Well she still has a fat head.
All of these comments are silly. It almost appears that people make an arguement as to justify the way they feel or their beliefs. Being fat is usually, not always, a lifestyle choice. This is america, be who you want to be. If you want to be healthier and look better then diet and exercise. If you are happy more power to you. Jennifer looks great in this pic. I hope she is a role model for other bigger americans to make the effort, but at the end of the day we should all respect each other regardless of fit or fat!
What does that comment have to do with this.?
You can loose the weight but the floppy skin still remains unless you go under the knife!
Haha silly Tango. She's GAUPD UP. Pretty certain she has no problem paying to get that fixed! Further, there are ways to tighten the skin but one has to lose the weight slowly and incorporate a lot of strength training and skin conditioning...as in moisturizing the skin constantly.
Everyone was not meant to be skinny. She does not need a nose job. I think she have lost too much for her bone structure. But if it makes her happy. What we think doesn't matter
I think she looks great but size 6 in my opinion is too small. I liked her at size 16 and I will like her at whatever size is a healthly weight.
A naturally healthy body will not retain weight. It's that simple. Now she's healthy so she's not retaining weight. Good for her in changing her life around. Now if only the rest of the fat Americans can do the same thing...
Everyone is too caught up in the sizes. I was 120-125 lbs forever at 5'8" and was a size 7. Then I did drop to 115 with a diagnosed medical condition and went to a size 5. I was skinny, at both weights! My hipbones stuck out! So, the whole sizing thing is just bunk, and does totally depend on the maker etc. It's about health and weight, not size. Everyone, just mind your own business!
Her head looks to big for her body now. LOL. She looked better when she was a little bigger, in between her current weight and her weight when she was on AI. I recently lost a bunch of weight(my heads likely to big too now, lol) and it makes me feel great so I'm sure she feels great too. Congrats to her.
Crikey. I'm the same height as Jennifer, and I naturally waver between a size 8 and size 10. I have on occasion gone up to a size 12, at which point I start to feel unhealthy and look at changing my regime. When a size 8-10 I am slap bang in the middle of the right BMI range for my height, too. I like my food and find salad-freaks and gym-bunnies tiresome and boring, but I also cycle and walk a lot more than most people so I don't want for exercise.
But I could never, ever get down to a size 6, even if I wanted to. I'd have to starve myself! At one point I was at the low end of a size 8 due to a lot of stress, and a close friend told me I was "disappearing" and she was worried that I wasn't eating right. As a size 6 I would be skin and bones, that is not healthy in any respect.
So I'm sick and tired of people in the media making stupid comments like "size 6 isn't skinny". While it's true than size 16 is overweight, no matter how you try to spin it as "curvy" or whatever, it's also true that the TV/Movie star concept of what's healthy and what's skinny is totally out of sync with the real world.
I'm sick of photoshopped and airbrushed images altering female bodies to freakish degrees and saying "hey, look at this ideal shape". Shaving inches off Kate Winslet's thighs on the front cover of a magazine; photoshopping out even the slightest hint of anything other than a 100% flat-as-a-pancake stomach on women on movie posters; elongating footage in music videos to make singers appear taller and, therefore, slimmer; it all goes on. Heck, it goes the other way too, in the poster for King Arthur the photoshoppers drastically increased Keira Knightley's chest-size! Hair extensions, teeth bleached so much they become an unnatural white/blue colour, botox... personal achievement has been replaced by vanity.
Do something useful with your life, but don't pretend that the way you look is a valuable contribution to society or enriching for your soul.
My working profession as graphic artist doing big time magazine covers and models even ruined my desire to look a playboy.
WOW I just lost a lot of respect for her... The fact that she is now a size 6 but says "Youll never see me skinny"????? UUUMMMM WHAAAATTT??? What would she classify herself as now. What a terrible message to send to your young impressionable fans. You lose all this weight and are a size 6 (the average size is a 12 in American, mind you) and say you are still not skinny...UGH American values and standards are so screwed up!!!
I totally agree with you. My friend was watching America's Next Top Model and told me that they had two girls on there who were size 10s that were considered 'plus size models.' And guess who lost? Depending on the dress I'm either ann 8 or a 10 but I know that I am in no way fat. My bone structure makes different dresses fit on me differently. Like for this past years prom I had to get a large in the dress I wanted because the medium was too small to get around my rib cage. I'm sick of people saying you're fat if you're above a 2 or whatever. I don't have much excess wait to lose and even if I tried, my hip bones and rib cage sure as heck aren't shrinking.
I say who cares! Put someone on the front cover that can't afford Jenny Craig and an expensive celebrity trainer, and did it the "old fashion" way and just eat healthy and exercise. Now that's inspirational!
Just curious, but when did a size 6 become not skinny? I understand being a natural size but natural sizes aren't really "fat" and she kinda makes it sound like she thinks she's still kinda chubby or something. But either way, she looks beautiful! :]
Not to mention how hard the media is on people who aren't the size like Twiggy. The media can be very cruel if someone isn't considered "perfect" in their opinion. Congrats, Jennifer.
You can call me hateful if you want, but I'm honest. If your 5'6" and 175 lbs- YOUR A FAT A$$!!! I'm 5'6" and 140 and I'm not little (I am average for my height, maybe even a little chubby), but I'm not fat and My BMI is 21% at that ht/wt. You, at 175 lbs my dear, reguardless of your 'frame size' are obese. And if you really are trying to sell to people that your at 15.5% body fat, your a terrible salesman!
Stop justifying America's number one problem!!! America is so afraid of hurting peoples fellings that it is creating Narcissists! Obese ones who are completely out of touch with reality. Since this is the 'pill' generation then I've got one for you- It's called a humble pill- take it when you look in the mirror.
This argument is worthless without pics that shows your 5'6", 140 lbs body! Preferably in a bikini...
You know the BMI charts are worthless pieces of crap, right? It can't take your actual body fat/muscle ratio into account unless you have a test done by a doctor. For years the charts said my dad was "obese" at 6', over 230 lbs but he's mostly muscle. Due to a rotator cuff injury, which made it harder for him to weight lift, and a lot of running, he's down to around 180 now and he's still nearly 'overweight' but has like a 6 pack. Sure, some people are obese and all, but I don't think you should totally base your opinions off of BMI charts. I myself, at 5' 10" and 158 lbs, have been close to being considered 'overweight' on certain BMI charts but the only way I was ever 145 was when I completely stopped running and lost my leg muscles. When it comes down to it, charts don't matter. Someone who is 5' 6" and 175 lbs is not necessarily a fatty, as you claim. Just sayin'.
I'd hit it.
That picture would make any racist think twice....
She looks fabulous.
Alright, let's tell it like it is! Jennifer Hudson was never beautiful because she was so unhealthy. Yes, height and weight go hand in hand but at size 16 for her frame she was fat, not curvy! She looks a lot better now and I bet any heath issues she once had have now cleared up. Genetics also play a factor with health issues but it has been statistically proven that if you are overwieght, the risks for certain health issues skyrocket! For all the fatties out there; gain a little self-respect and start caring about your healthy now before it's too late! Curvy is just another cover up for the word "fat"; don't buy the lie! Have a great day all.
I believe there is fat, curvy and stick-straight. After discussions with my guy friends, girls want to be curvy, meaning thin with enough meat on their bones to get that hourglass shape. If girls start to lose all of their weight, they lose the curves and from what I understand, a lot of guys aren't attracted to that. It's like this FML I read where the girl spent a year dieting to fit into freaking size 0 jeans. All of her girlfriends told her she looked great and the guys were disgusted. So curvy, not fat is where we should be at.
Wow. You must have low self-esteem issues. You shouldn't show it so well; it looks real ugly on you. Only ignorant, media driven dummies (literally like the dummies used in car crash tests) believe this nonsense. Beauty is not exterior...that is what artificial people believe and the media has been conditioning the weak to believe. Wow buddy. Pick up a book and drop the mags already.
Yep. So low that because of you I'm going to go cry in the corner. ;[ jk Sorry, I don't read magazines and I've never really bought into the whole, you have to look this way crap because from what I can tell a lot of people my age think that you have to be fake tan, have long, flat-ironed hair, wear a pound and a half of makeup and have all designer clothes to look beautiful. I'm just not into that. But I believe the article is on outside looks so I was just sharing my opinion on outside looks. You could be the hottest person in the world and it couldn't matter at all if you had a crappy personality. I've never believed in going after someone just for looks because that's just dumb. Everyone is precious and beautiful in their own way. You just have to find it first. So thanks for judging me 😀
And reading over what I originally posted, I'll admit it was very poorly worded, but my point was girls really shouldn't aim to be size 0 because it's just not realistic. Confidence is key to everything in life and for lots of people that includes a nice, solid body image. They should aim for a good natural weight which usually means curves for girls. Just like Jenn here is a size 6 now and says she's fine right there. She looks great, so why should she aim to be smaller? When it comes down to it it's about loving yourself and being happy with how you are. If people want to lose weight they should do it for themselves, not for anyone else. For instance, my best friend's mom tells her she's fat because she's a little bit bigger than the rest of her friends. I think she looks fine but she's on a diet cause her mom won't leave her alone about it. That's just wrong. Jennifer did it for herself and she's proud and that's what matters. Any person that wants to diet needs to do it for themselves and get down to a natural body weight. But I suppose if they aim for a 0 and make it, kudos to them as long as they're happy.
Thin or curvy, Jennifer is one of the hottest women around, says this 51 year old man.
Helow peeps! average person needs 45% percent carbs, 25% protein and normal weight 35% fat and obese up to 30% fat, So please unless you are a dietician please dont give false information. Too much protein can be dangerous....please watch what you say. Sry for my english im dutch
she is supposed to be a size 6. at 16 she was overweight from eating too much. she took more than her share like a lot of other overweight people in this country. gluttony and selfishness are the norm these days. people that are normal height and weight are the minority. take what you need to sustain life and watch food and medical prices drop. lets just cheer for people that are normal height and weight and not congratulate someone who was overweight and is now proportionate. i am so tired of these stories.
There are so many rude men on here. I love Weight Watchers, I lost 42 pounds since April. I have to put out effort beyond human to lose weight. I have to workout a minimum of 2 hours per day (one hour doesn't work). I have pain from doing that at my age but I have no choice. I am a vegetarian and I cannot eat many carbs at all or I will not lose. Mostly all fruits and veggies during the day. When you don't have a difficult time maintaining or losing weight you assume we are ll created equal and nothing is further from the truth. I have to put weight # 1 in my day to do it, everything else has to be secondary. I do not take well to those who make rude comments because they are not in my body.
To all of you skinny people criticizing those of us who are overweight...how many of you smoke, drink excessively, or avoid exercise? People do a lot of unhealthy things, yet it's the overweight people who are constantly ridiculed for being unhealthy. I'm overweight and always have been (I'm currently 5'10, size 18). I have tried and tried to lose weight, but my body wants to stay this size. I've decided to just be happy and let it go. I am healthy in every other way. I don't smoke or do drugs, and I only drink in moderation. I also exercise regularly (3 times a week, sometimes more). I have low blood pressure (110/70), low cholesteral, and no signs of diabetes. Just because someone is overweight doesn't mean that they are unhealthy. Some people are just meant to be bigger.
So.... You have a motor in the back of your Honda?
How you doin'?
Lets toss that junk around in the bedroom a few times hehehe
No I agree with you. You are right that some people are naturally predisposed to being more overweight. And that's ok. The problem is when you see some of them eating McDonalds like they just don't care and that's not ok. These people are unhealthy and they will raise tehir kids the same way and that's a shame.
Crack will do that to ya!
All you anorexic psychos lay off the fat folks already! I'd rather die of a heart attack at 50 than Alzheimer's at 70. Judgement day's coming and I don't wanna be around when it gets here!
@ Mike you have a low self esteem. Your mother is probably ugly as well as yourself.
I've found that men who love fat women are not very strong minded so they find there strength in someone who is more week minded.
@ Lisa Get it right dummy weak minded not WEEK minded. LOL! Must be talking about urself.
What's wrong Lisa?? Did your boyfriend/husband cheat on you with a fat chick??
@ Lily D you are so right!
It's always funny how fat people defend fat people, but I've never seen one that has lost the weight not be happy. Pretending to enjoy being fat is just an excuse when you don't have the will power to close your mouth. You go girl for taking the weight off! I did it and love to see the people hate me for it.
@Lisa: The difference is that fat people can lose the weight, but there's nothing you can do about that ugly personality of yours.
Jennifer looks healthy and lovely. David will adjust, his reaction is normal. Women marry a man, thinking they can change them, but they can't. Men marry a woman, hoping she won't change, but she does. Such is life. Jennifer wasn't morbidly obese, but her sister certainly is.
WHY is this newsworthy? And not to worry....it will all be back by January. LOL
I wonder if she's got a motor in the back of her Honda? Cuz' my anaconda don't want none, unless it's got buns, hun...
Girl you look good, like a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on wheat toast with mayo and lettuce! good enough to eat!
Bone structure is also a factor regaring height, and weight. Also, when a size 10 is now considered to be a plus size is just wrong. When I was young a plus size started at size 16. I've been a big girl all my life and my vitals are normal. Yoyo dieting causes more damage then staying consistently at the same weight. You can have medical issues being small and also under weight but people would rather go on the attack against fat people. Sigh.
Who cares how she looks (personally she looks great), but as long as she can still sing her a** off, then that's all that matters to me b/c that's what makes her Jennifer Hudson.
Size 16 CAN BE OBESE depending on your height. I am 5'7 and was a size 16 over a year ago, and my BMI just hit the Obese level. I was definitely curvy, but which also means fat! I had back problems and felt uncomfortable. I went from 193 to 138. I am now a size 6 and 8 and feel the healthiest I have in my entire life. My BMI is normal, body fat percentage is average, and I feel great. Good job Jennifer for doing what makes YOU feel best, now what everyone else thinks is best for you.
Hey, how you doin'?
WHAT ARE THE ODDS COCAINE WAS INVOLVED HERE?
I'VE SEEN THE ADS, THINK THEY ARE PRETENTIOUS, CHILDISH, AND WHO THE HELL IS SHE ANYWAYS, NOONE CARES. AND LIKE OPRAH THIS BRAOD WILL OUT IT BACK ON FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN...
PLEASE...
THIS BRAOD IS AN INSULT TO AMERICA'S INTELLIGENCE!~!!
Spartacus, atleast if you are going to be a jerk, learn how to spell and type. Its BROAD, you dumb a**!! As far as the insult to our intelligence, that would be YOU!!
Spartacus was gay....
No... you're obese!
Still looks like a pig to me. Too bad she was under the pressure of Hollywood/Music Business to get thin.
Everyone seems to forget they change the actual size of womens clothes last year. My wife dropped a few sizes too and never lost a pound or an inch. HAHAHAHA stupid people believe stupid things.
Actually, the American apparel industry made that shift a couple of years ago. The reality of today's discussion is that she did drop roughly 50 lbs.
I am sorry- but Weight Watchers did not do that alone. She had hugh thighs and now- none.
You're right. It's called hard work (as in exercise 5-6 days a week), a balance diet, and determination. Try it and maybe your fat ass can lose the weight too instead of criticizing and doubting her results. Typical hater.
Wow, she's hot now!
sorry politically correct guys and gals but she's much much better now and probably added 10 years to her life.
I think she looks great but....in a year we'll see where she is really at. It looks like she lost the weight very fast and probably didn't eat the right foods while doing it. By going what she said, she was 190 lbs. and 5'9" tall she should weigh about 140 lbs. now. Losing 50 lbs. quickly isn't good for someone that wasn't really huge. She was not at a healthy weight but should have taken almost a year to lose the 50 lbs. I myslef am trying to lose 20-25 lbs. and plan on doing it with more exercise and less calories. The later of the two being the hardest to do. Being a 5'9" man at 190 lbs. is ok if I was a defensive back for the Bears. But, for a 42 year old, smaller structure, average working man it isn't so great. I hope Jennifer continues to eat right and work out and change her lifestyle to a more healthy one from the one that made her heavier. Although she looked pretty good before it just wasn't very healthy. Some people carry more weight than others naturally. Last but not least.....the racial remarks aren't needed anymore in todays society. From everyone, white, black, or whomever. For those of you who think that white people are the only racists, think again. Your comments aren't that great either. Its been a 2 way street for a long time.
Defensive back? Kicker, maybe. Sorry - had to rib you a bit on that one!
To "D", have you seen some of the d-backs lately!! My son has a card of a guy 5'9"/195. I could have been a contender!!!LOL!!!
She looks great. That is true. Her problem is that her commercial is obnoxious. She needs to learn to pronounce words correctly. When I see her, the channel is changed immediately.
@Penny
"When I see her, the channel is changed immediately."
Not only do you sound stupid, but you got some serious issues if you're changing damn channels.
SHE IS STILL UGLY. AT LEAST WHEN YOU ARE FAT YOU CAN LOSE THAT BUT IF YOU ARE UGLY YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THAT.
She is not skinny. She is at a nice healthy weight. It is amazing how warped most sense of what a healthy weight range is these days. So many are overweight, and seriously so, that they see someone at a healthy weight and deem it unhealthy and too skiiny. BTW- At 5'9" and 140 lbs, her BMI is 20.7. Anything below 18.5 is unhealthy, which means she would have to weigh something less than 125 lbs. She is likely wearing a body shaper underneath. Most women wear these days with tight fitting dress even those that are truely skinny. Body shapers give you a nice smooth silouette.
I agree with Daisy. A size 6 IS skinny! I too think that's an irresponsible comment. Perhaps she meant "emaciated?"
@ABJ-Excuse me, but I'm a size 16 and FAR from being obese. I don't know where you got you information, but you are sadly mistaken.
Never heard of her.
THE SADDEST thing is the number of ignorant remakrs made based on a MIS-quoted statement taken out of context. Sheesh people the article is right at the top of the page. interestingly enough the type of laziness displayed here is another reason so many Americans (I dont care about the rest of the world, I'm American so is my concern) are overweight.
She said "I don't want to lose any more weight, and you're never going to see me skinny". "I think this is a good, natural size for me." READ: SHE IS HAPPY. SHE DOES NOT THINK SIZE 6 IS SKINNY.
Good for her and I hope she can stick wit it. She was lovely before, but she's a bit cuter slimmer. And here's to hoping she doesn't turn into a weight yoyo like most dieters do. That beats up on the self-esteem worse than the weight beats up on that heart. Not hatin, just citing the facts.
if she's healthier..good for her, i hope was wasn't changing to please other people. the photo looks ultered of course. i think women look better with meat on them...i'm a size 5-6 and im 5'6...if i COULD get the lbs on i would!
She is fine! Don't listen to that fiance, he's just scared he might lose you. This is just his way of trying to control you. Keep up the good work. Love yourself and your son.
Tales of Oprah, will put back on more than ever.
Wow! I read through all the comments and I think she was beautiful before but she is ultra-hot now. She can also get more roles because she fits into the Hollywood asthetic. She would be considered "plus" size in Hollywood but she looks great. Now to the clown that said she needed a nose job. Should she bleach her skin as well? I mean do all folks want black celebrities to look like poor imitations of white people. SAD..
Congrats Jennifer!!! You look FANTASTIC!!! You looked wonderful before and you look wonderful now! Good for you!!!
I must say, the majority of the comments are seriously judgmental. It's America and everyone is free to have their opinion, but damn. I think she looks great, and the fact that Jennifer did it the correct way is even more to applaud. Regardless of what most of you say, she looks great.
Frankly this society wants you unhappy. They control what you think, who your idols are and the standards for what is "normal" or "acceptable". Its all about choices-you can let them control your perspective or make your own.Who cares what size anyone is as long as they are ok with it.Life is too short to constantly live up to somebody else's standards.Keep to your own, you'll never go wrong and won't regret it later.
I find it alarming that she is a size 6 and Jennifer states herself that she "will never be skinny." Since when is a size 6 fat?? I am a size 4 now, but when I was a 6 NEVER thought I wasn't skinny. The celebrity world's view of health/weight/image is so distorted.
Maybe her comment had more to do with how previously fat girls never really think of themselves as skinny, no matter how much weight they lose. As someone who also lost 50 lbs and went from a size 16 to a 6-8, I can identify with that. It's like when we were fat, we didn't see ourselves as large as we were (hence hating all photographs of ourselves), and when we get thin it's hard to see that accurately, too. I think perhaps time takes care of some of that, though. I've maintained for over a year now and finally am developing a healthy, more accurate body image. And for all of us, keeping the weight off - not losing it - is the biggest challenge. Good for her. She looks great and I wish her continued success! But, personally, I hope she does not shave her head. 🙂
Also try the south beach diet...it's a great healthy way to drop some weight fast and for me that was motivation to stick with it. Carbs for me are the killer, even when I was eating a low cal diet...if it involved carbs I wasn't losing weight. I also drink a lot of water! I even stopped drinking diet soda. And of course working out it key...I bike ride lift weights and do zumba (a lot of fun!).
She was beautiful before and she is beautiful now! Good for her! I know how hard it is to lose weight...I started about the same weight as her and I am a size 6...still trying to lose a little more weight to get dwn to 120 but I am only 5'4.
And for you "fat haters" at least if your fat you can lose weight...if your ugly there is no hope for you!
Way to Go Jennifer!!!!!
I think it's really sad that she's quoted as saying "you're never going to see me skinny." Does she think she's still overweight? Or has she bought into the perception that to be skinny you have to be slightly emaciated? I hope not but I think a lot of people think this way.
Love her, but I am having a hard time liking her 'new look'. She reminds me of Starr Jones after she lost all of the weight – her head just looks too big for her body and for some reason she appears too thin.
are you kidding me? Starr Jones looked [and still looks] like Skeletor. Jennifer Hudson is still gorgeous.
I think what you people don't get is that certain ethnicities are curvy and a size 16 for them may look & feel absolutely fine as opposed to a size 16 on other ethnicities with NO curves! Yes, it is very important to be healthy, and I'm healthy, happy & curvy in a size 14, 145 lbs. What is considered fat on that stupid chart is absolutely incorrect and does not apply to everyone. It is another trick the insurance companies came up with to affect rates. In some countries, it is not considered healthy to be a size 6, while in this stupid country, it's praised. Accept who you are, and if you have health reasons due to weight, address them! but trying to fit into some stupid chart is not ok!
The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) and the WHO (World Health Organization) don’t set their standards for health based off any insurance companies recommendations or guidelines. Obesity in the US is a major problem and has gotten worse over the years. You are correct, 145lbs is not considered fat for someone over 5’4” with a large build or someone 5’7” with a medium frame. Skinny is not healthy either.
The point I was trying to make was too many people feel it is okay to promote being fat, or to “Feel good in your own skin”, well if that skin is hanging off someone’s body or is ready to burst, and they are 56lbs over weight, they should do something about it.
She does look great. At 196 lbs she was considered "Obese" according to the "CDC" and "WHO". She lost 56lbs and hopefully did it the right way (diet and exersise). At 140 lbs she is in normal healthy range. Nobody looks good 56lbs over weight, nor do they feel good. People tend to try and justify being over weight, but they should spend that energy losing it. We are one of the most unhealthy countries in the world, and have crafted words to help make over weight pepole feel good. The only way you will feel truly good about your weight, is to lose it!
She looks great! Let's see how long it lasts, e.g., Oprah, Kirstie, etc.
I agree with a lot of the people here that said saying a size 6 is not skinny is ridiculous. But based on the picture above I guarantee you that JH is no size 6. My wife is 5'6" medium bone structure, and if she lost enough weight to fit into a size 6 she would be far skinnier than what JH looks in that photo (where she is obviously wearing something to make her waist look that small). At the end of the day size and weight is all about health, comfort and mental health. If you are comfortable with where you are at and you are healthy that is what matters.
Sad thing is, at a size 6 she'd still be considered a plus-size model.
Oh by the way Jennifer, all the people that are hating on you because you chose to lose weight are more than likely jealous. You've actually done what they have not accomplished- either because they dont have the will, or the knowledge, or a medical condition that prevents them from doing so.
If she is happy then I'm happy for her but I personally thought she was beautiful just the way she was.
You liked her because you are used to looking at fat Americans. Being fat is also instinctively attractive because that proves you know how to hunt for food and you can bear children.
Wow! Jennifer looks amazing and healthy. I am very happy for her and I see her as an inspiration to women (and men) who dont want to go thru life overweight and unhealthy.
Jennifer, I'm not so sure about cutting off all the hair though. I suggest you do a photoshop of yourself without hair before you commit to cutting it off.
Okay just in case no one noticed some "skinny" people suffer from health problems too. So the comments about her being "morbidly obese" and "not caring about her body" are both disrespectful and borderline ignorant.
Of course thin people have health problems also, but that's not a scientifically relevant comment. No one has ever said that being thin means your never ill. it's medically proven that being obese can lead to serious health problems that are much less likely to afflict a thin person.
Sizes can differ extremely depending on your height. Being a size 16 could be fine if you're tall, but if you're 5'5, that's too big. I don't care how many people say their 170 or 200 and healthy, in general, that's putting strain on your heart and your life. If she wanted to lose weight to feel healthier, then good for her. We don't know her, so we can't judge her for the reasons behind it.
I think our perception of thin has changed as the majority of people have become overweight. A size 6 today was a 1990's size 10. The fashion industry has changed the proportions of size numbers since the 1920's. I'm 30lbs. heavier than I was 10 years ago. I was a 2 then and I'm a 6 now. I don't consider myself thin. I'm just not fat.
To the people here discussing how to lose weight, investigative science journalist Gary Taubes points out that it's carbohydrates - flour, sugar, starchy vegetables like potatoes (and apple juice – you may as well drink a Coke) - that cause the insulin secretion that puts on fat. I'm effortlessly rail thin from eating a very low-carb diet. I eat dessert once every two weeks, but otherwise, it's all steak, bacon, and green vegetables drenched in butter all the time. -Amy Alkon, advicegoddess.com
Amy, other factors do play a part. Age, bone structure, metabolism, activity level, genetics. There are a lot of people who could eat anything they wanted when they were 25 or even 30, but the majority of people are overweight because they simply eat too much based on their activity level. And, for all the people out there who think that being overweight isn't a health issue, and there are many, just check out the who's riding hoverounds, and those motorized carts in the grocery store, 9 out of 10 are obese.
Enjoy your clogged arteries and lack of nutritional diversity Amy. Fresh fruits and other natural carbs provide essential nutrients to your body. Drenching everything in butter, not so much...
I don't know who "investigative science journalist" Gary Taubes is, but it sounds like he could use a basic nutrition course.
I liked her better larger, mostly because of her bigger chest. But I thought her face looked better when she had a bit more weight on. I agree that people shouldn't get "morbidly obese", but ... http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://gyantunplugged.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/71603_Jennifer_Hudson-2008_MTV_Movi.jpg&imgrefurl=http://gyantunplugged.com/tag/jennifer-hudson/&usg=__B1QwxV8fRCxVlVMuFqvCp9JqiY4=&h=498&w=480&sz=64&hl=en&start=0&sig2=iwtjLU8nra62qqBK04twVg&tbnid=rrOlm-uaRTikiM:&tbnh=136&tbnw=131&ei=zmFZTLTyMsqjnQfrp7jdCA&prev=/images%3Fq%3Djennifer%2Bhudson%2Bheavy%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1567%26bih%3D847%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=rc&dur=266&page=1&ndsp=50&ved=1t:429,r:29,s:0&tx=89&ty=72
@Lorraine – if it were actually as easy and simple as "eat less and exercise more", then everybody in this country would be a size 4 and weight loss wouldn't be a multi-billion dollar industry. Come on.
Actually it is a matter of eat less and exercise more. The problem is that it's not that easy to do. It means a significant lifestyle change that is hard if not impossible for most people to do because it takes will power that most people lack.
@ gburg,
EXACTLY! It's NOT easy to lose the excess weight and reduce your bodyfat numbers. It takes a lifestyle commitment of a healthier diet and exercise. Once you reach your ideal bodyfat numbers, keeping it off is a bit easier in that you no longer have to exercise intensely to burn fat, but instead exercise enough to keep healthy and maintain your current bodyfat numbers. Also, you can eat more compared to when you were trying to lose weight.
It's hard work, but even harder is making it a habit in your life. The minute you think a diet is "only for six weeks" or some other time period, you are destined to fail. Don't even bother because you will gain it back, and will mess up your metabolism each time you "yo-yo".
Tell it to the folks in line at McDonald's. Seriously, have you seen what people in this country eat? Friendly's now has a cheeseburger out that is served between TWO GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICHES. 1500 calories, 90g of saturated fat. That is how Americans choose to fuel their bodies.
While there are certainly nuances, the basic fact is calories in must be fewer than calories out to lose weight. Period. Eat less, move more, create a caloric deficit, lose weight. People grossly underestimate the caloric content of their food and grossly overestimate the energy expenditure of their activities. The example I like to use is running a mile. Do you know the caloric expenditure equivalent (in approximation for most people) of running a mile? A banana. Not a Snickers, not a Big Mac, not an extra scoop of Rocky Road. One medium-sized banana.
Know your energy requirements, and knock 500 calories off your intake each day. You will lose a pound a week. It really is that simple.
There's actually no evidence that exercising really helps in weight loss. Recent studies published show that exercise is an insignificant part of weight loss – you don't really burn that many calories unless you're doing intense 2 hr+ daily exercising. It's about 95% diet. If you exercise more and don't change your diet, you'll lose very little, if any weight. If you don't exercise but cut your food intake drastically, you will shed weight quickly.
The problem is, the human body is not designed to lose weight easily. It is designed to hold onto every pound possible. Every single system in your body works against you as strongly as it can to keep you as big as possible. That's how humans survived for hundreds of thousands of years of evolution.
So to say "well just eat less" is incredibly simplistic and ignores the reality of biology and real life for most people, especially in this country where we are surrounded by a multi-billion dollar food industry which has a vested interest in manipulating hard-wired human tendencies in getting people hooked on unhealthy food.
Marie – I do get over 2 hours of exercise most days, with 1 complete day of rest weekly and more downtime one week out of every month. It is called an active lifestyle. It can be done, most people are simply too lazy or make excuses. I was one of those people for a long time, but I got with it and made the change. Restricting food intake will only get you so far, to eat enough get the nutrients you need to be healthy and still lose or maintain weight, exercise is required. Exercise also makes me feel GREAT!!! I'm off the depression meds. YEAH... Ignore the studies – you can find a study to support any conclusion you like.
Jennifer what have you done you look HORRIBLE. Size 6 does not look good on you at all. No wonder your man is trying to feed you, you are too skinny. Your man loved your full breast, butt, legs and thighs – – he was happy and you ruined a good thing.
The only reason she looked decent when she was fat was because she dressed appropriatly for her size. Fat is not pretty it's disgusting.
Also, any woman who stays fat to please a man is a disgrace to all women.
"Ok honey, let me risk heart disease and diabetes so that you can loooove my breasts again. Thanks for caring about ME."
David Otunga is a major loser, anyway, and she is way too good for him. I can't wait til she leaves his sorry butt.
one word PHOTOSHOP
Exactly, I saw a pic of her in a papparazzi type photo. She ain't no 6.
Yep, there is some work done on the old photo. She looks great but it also looks like she lost the weight very fast and without eating enough of the right foods. I am sure that dress is holding in some extra skin due to the too fast weight loss.
I actually think she looked better before. She'd probably look ideal with about 10-15 more pounds on her – still in the healthy weight range, but with a little more softness. Her face doesn't look as pretty now.
I am still skeptical about if she did weight watchers. Originally she said in an ariticle she started in January and the article was from and April magazine. I do wonder if she did a Star Jones type of surgery and says differently. I find it hard to believe she can lose that much in so little time. I too did go from a size 16 – lost 50 lbs and still only became a size 10-12 at 140 lbs. Still can't figure that one out why I too can't be size 6 – which in Jennifer's book is not skinny? Wow!! What a comment and we wonder why our kids have eating disorders. Size 6 is skinny Jennifer.
I've been on WW for 6 years (as a lifetime member – maintaining). They wouldn't have a spokesperson who cheated by having surgery. 6 years ago I lost 40lbs in 4 months and went from a size 18 to a size 6/8. It is very possible; I did it.
"you're never going to see me skinny"... since when is a size six NOT skinny?
Id have made the headboard slam with her when she was a size 16, now Id probably just feel all the bumps along the way
Ahhh a chubby chaser. At least you have a lot of women to choose from.
Nothing's wrong with plump women. Jennifer was a beautiful, thick sister. Now she looks like a bony white girl with dark skin. I'll pass!
The cover photo is photo shopped. I saw a unaltered photo, she's not a 6. More like a 10 or 12.
I love all women, reguardless of their size, looks and hair color.
Dayumn!!!!!!!!!!
hi
I don't think she made the "you're never going to see me skinny" comment intending to say she still feels fat and she's never going to succeed at becoming skinny. What I think she was saying is she's very happy where she's at, doesn't want to lose any more weight, still feels curvy and has no desire to be skinny. everybody defines skinny differently. Some people think a size 6 is skinny, others think a size 2 is skinny.
Eat less, exercise more. It's as simple as that. Why do people always seem to complicate this?
That's HOT!!!! You go sister!!!
My wife was overweight when I married her five years ago. She's since put on another 50 pounds after our daughter was born. yes, I worry about her health, but she's still the most beautiful woman in the world. 'nuff said.
Beyonce and J-Lo are curvy. Size 16 is fat. Sorry. She looks 100% better.
Sorry, correction, I mean Herve Ledger.
She looks amazing. I hate that word curvy. Size 16 is plain old fat. People need a word to make themselves feel better and justify their over eating.
Obese = curvy now eh?
More than a quarter of Americans are now obese according to the CDC, so yeah, it's now "curvy." If enough of us do anything, no matter how unhealthy, it becomes the norm. That's why you see so many posters here saying that size 6 (which in reality was a size 10 a few years ago) is "too skinny."
I'm sorry, but when was being in shape and fit and healthy a bad thing? Everyone makes such a big deal about how people only get praise when they drop sized. It's called commending hard work and a healthy lifestyle.
She'd look even better without that horrible, fake-looking weave. I hate weaves on sisters. On any woman for that matter – especially when they look so phony and artificial.
I highly doubt you are a size 6 to 8... I would guess a size 10.
Yes I"m a size 6 never been a 10 in my life... THANKS...
You know you look good when you can wear Heath Ledger.
don't shave your head
Congratulations Jennifer, you look fantastic. Keep up the good work.
Still laughing at the size 6.........LOL
Ugh I'm a size 6 to 8 and I don' t look NEARLY as small as Jennifer does.... WOW... BUT I don' t really think she looks heathy at that weight...my opinion... she does LOOK SICK... VERY BEAUTIFUL...BUT SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's about time she did. Can she keep it off or will the Oprah effect kick in?????
she does look better/happier at size 6, she always had a nice smile, but here she looks more comfortable with her body. doubt they photoshopped it too much if at all like some are complianing about, size 6 on a 5'9" frame is going to look pretty thin compared to size 6 on the average woman 5'4".
Wow. If that's not bad Photoshopping then now she looks like one of those face transplant recipients.
LIsten cows... a size 6 today was a size 10 two years back. Women today have three choices in sizes... 00, 0, or 2.
Maybe a size 4 for for the large framed big girls. Any gal over 130 lbs should start working out and dieting.
No wonder your husbands don't touch you.
And NO wonder why women must flock to you baby!
@PL White, Dude, it's not our fault that women won't come near you. I suggest counseling to deal with your issues.
LOL you are such a moron it's hilarious. Can you imagine a woman who is 5 10 under 130 pounds? she would be so thin she wouldnt even be able to stand up. That being said, I'm a size 12, I can swim 7 miles in open water across a bay, I can run 3 miles without stopping, I go to yoga 3-4 times a week and I know people who are sizes both larger and smaller who couldnt even think of doing any of those things. What it comes down to is how conditioned are you? What kind of things can you do physically? What is your cholesterol? My mom is skinny but she doesnt eat anywhere near the amount of vitamins and nutrients she should be getting each day. I know I could lose weight, but in the end, I can do MANY things athletically wise that many other people of all sizes cant even comprehend. So, to say anyone should BE any size is ridiculous. Your body is the only one that can REALLY tell you whats up.
ex: Gabrielle Reece is a superb athlete and is 6'3 170 pounds. She is in better shape then all of us here, including you PL White, who clearly has NO idea about athletics or athletes in general. You are a pretty sad excuse for a human being. I hope you arent having kids and passing your stupid genes on.
That being said, I would say that almost universally, a size 16 probably isnt healthy, but i would say you can be very fit at a size 14 and down. (if you are 5'1, a size 14 is obese-everything is relative here)
I think she looks alike a bobble head and needs to gain a few back. Jealthy weightloss is not suppose to make your head look bigger than your body. And a size 6 is NOT a natural size for her. She should have stopped at a 10 but if she likes it I love it.
I'm all for wieght loss, and I do agree tht a size 16 isn't ALL curves, but in looking at this particular cover, at least to me, it looks photoshopped. That way her face is "positioned" just doesnt seem natural. Also, I agree with her fiance, David, she doesn't have breasts, or many of her curves she's known for any more. I'm not saying I'd like the old Jennifer back, but perhaps she could go up to a size 8 or 10, she'd still be "Skinny" as you all call it, but she wouldn't look like a wanna be whitegirl. We have enough of those.
A nip and a tuck here and there will go a long way. Okay remember Star Jones episode? Don't get caught up on what u hear or see. Use wisdom to discern. Trust me weight watcher and nip and tuck
Size 16 to 6 is a dramatic change, her husband doesn't like it and I wouldn't either. I love thick women a size 10 would have been good for her but a size 6 is frail.
Healthy is definitely the more important goal for all of us. One thing to point out is that her size 6 is more than likely being measured using the adjusted sizing charts that came out a while ago. Therefore, size 6 is more realistically a size 8-10 here in the US. (google this if you don't believe me!) I've been in the fashion and swimwear industry for about 25 years and have seen this first-hand.
As for body weight vs size, vs height vs frame...no one is alike. Everyone's proportions are unique and what is healthy, slim, overweight, and etc to you may not hold true for me. Thank goodness for individuality! Unfortunately, society has created a monstrous ideal of what every woman should physically look like. Look at what it's doing to our young girls!
Let me let you in on a little secret: "Size 6" could be anywhere from an actual size 4 to a size 8 or 10 depending on the brand. There was an article recently about this discrepancy – the majority of American women who think they're a size 10 are actually wearing closer to a size 12 or 14 using measurements from years ago. And you'll see that depending on the brand, an 8 feels like a 10 and a 12 feels like a 10 or a 10 feels like an 8.
I've heard girls say they're a size 4 and it's like, no you're not! But their clothes may say 4. At her largest, Jennifer Hudson looked way bigger than a 16 too.
So she's saying she's a size 6 but I'm willing to bet she's actually more like an 8.
You're absolutely correct! LOL! Just posted on this! 🙂
You're absolutely correct that clothes are more vanity sized now, even every day brands. I currently wear between a 6-8. However, I stumbled across a pair of size 8 jeans from my college years (from about 20 years ago), and let's just say there's no way I would fit into them now. Another way to look at things – sewing patterns have, for the most part, not been resized, and still go on measurements, not a size number. According to the pattern companies I'm a 12-14.
It's all in frame size, and muscle mass. I'm 5' 6" and at 120 lbs my hair was falling out/stopped having a period from lack of body fat, and was tired all the time and wore a size 4-6 *good riddance!*. I look/feel FANTASTIC at around 145 *size 8*, which is the high-end of the BMI charts for my height. So "F" the scale and go by energy-level, and keeping your waist under 32" around if you're a woman.
If she's happy at a size 6 like she says, then stop telling her she should be a size 16.
once a fattie always a faattie, look at Oprah, how long can she maintain this....not long.
What an entirely negative way to comment...would you speak to your children, nephews, or nieces like this? Very condescending!
There ain't nothing uglier than an over 40 rack of bones. That's not slim, it's anorectic. Rangy, scrawny, stringy...(shudder).
Do Americans no longer understand the distinctions between 'skinny', 'slim', 'normal' and 'fat'? To say that you're not skinny at a size 6 is not saying that you're fat. It's saying that you're slim, but you're not showing bones yet. And when you start talking about how large sizes are 'normal' have a think about all the other billions of people in the world who somehow manage to be, on average, much much smaller than Americans and who regard being fat as ugly and unhealthy, because it is. This whole fat acceptance movement may be making fat people feel emotionally better, but it won't get them off their butts and doing something about it. Being fat isn't normal. Being fat is what happens when you keep taking in more calories than you burn.
Jennifer you look great but please do not get smaller and keep the same disposition, I agree with Dreamer99 her face is too small for her frame
I admit she looks very nice in that dress, but is it me or does anybody think her face looks strange now that she's thin?
ok, to everyone who doesn't understand how she can say that she is a size 6, but you will never see her skinny. I am a size 6... and I have areas of chub. I am NOT skinny. I am slender. I can watch what I eat and be trimmer, a size 4, or I could be crazy about it and be skinny, a size 2. A size 6 on an average heighted woman is NOT scrawny skinny. I always assumed it was when I was heavy, until I became it. My body settles now at a size 6. I eat butter, cheese and ice cream. I like fat in my food. Remember people, size is a number and depending on ones bone structure... each body holds the same size differently.
A few years ago Star Jones lost a great deal of weight crediting some diet and only admitting, somewhat reluctantly following rumors, that she had actually had gastric bypass surgery.
What's next for Jennifer a size 2 or 0?
The new average size 10 is now a size 14 as was reported in USA Today.
wow so many criticizing her for losing weight, size 6 is not skinny size 2 is, fat is unhealthy and indeed it is unattractive, exercise, diet choice and portion control are good things, and will lead to a healthier body and mind and a healthier body is a more attractive body (and face too, overweight gives that puffy face yech)
Fatty McFattus
Wow you look great Jennifer!!! But don't cut your hair!!!!!!!!
When is size 6 NOT skinny?...Jennifer don't look now...but I think I AM "seeing [you] skinny"...
It's sad that size 6 is not considered skinny.
All of you posting nasty comments and judging what you think is obese and unheathy absolutely disgust me. You people are exactly what wrong with this world not fat people. The difference as you can clearly see from this picture of the gorgeous woman who is so beautiful inside and out is that someone with excess weight heathy or not can change but some of you nasty people will always be ugly inside and when people see who you really are that ugliness can be seen from a mile away. Maybe if some of you so called skinny people werent so unhappy with yourselves you might not be so horrible about so many things you dont understand. I was fat all through high shool then lost the weight and join the Marine Corps. I have been on both sides of the fence, and thats one thing that shows you what you are really made of. Who you really are. Have any of you really taken a good look in the mirror lately?
Loddy, thank you for speaking up. It's heartbreaking to see how completely judgmental people can be. I personally don't care what size she is or is not...it's not my business. And I give Kudos to those who posted positive comments about Jennifer before she lost weight.
Loddy I agree with you. The problem with the world is not the obese or skinny people it is with individuals that are biased and that have no compassion for their fellow man. The important point is being healthy and trying to live the best life you can. It does not matter what size you are cancer, AIDS and other diseases see no size when they kill you. Some people have to work so much harder than others to maintain healthy weights. It does not mean that they are any better or worst than someone who is just naturally thin. What happened to having kind words for someone. So are you telling me that all of the size sixes and below on this blog have no friends that are size 16 and larger as friends or even family members. Next if you do .... do you tell them how they really disgust you.... I mean really where is your compassion. You have no idea the struggles they may have or how they feel. I pray for all your judgmental souls.
Thank you Loddy! And Jennifer congratulations for being a positive role model for woman way better then a lot of others out there and I"m not going to mention names . . . Everyone should be happy with themselves hold your head up and be proud of who you are. But most importantly be healthy and happy!
PLEASE DONT SHAVE YOUR HEAD.
The thing is Jennifer Hudson looks good either way.
To her a size 6 is average. To Hollywood, it's a size 2 or even 0. But how does that seem realistic when you consider that the average woman in the US is a size 12.
Some women at 5'6" 130lbs while other are 110lbs. Does that mean the second is healthier than the first? Not necessarily.
Weight is not just about fat, it's muscle mass, fat and bone weight.
Ultimately, as long as you are healthy that is what matters no matter if you're 5'6" 110 or 130lbs.
The problem comes from image and self-esteem because women who are thinner than others, may feel more insecure.
if you are a size 10 or 16 and your doctor says you are healthy... then where is the issue? If you are unhappy about your weight, then you can choose to do something. But that's not for everybody
It's called having your stomach stapled of intestines tied. If you have enough money, you can look like whatever you want. but please, let's not praise her for the hard work and sacrifice....
You're way off here. She lost the weight doing Weight Watchers. No surgery, just healthy portion control and choosing the right foods. How 'bout doing a bit of research before making assumptions.
Michelle,
I guess you are one who believes anything a Hollywood P.R. agent writes. However, that doesn't make it true. Think for yourselfm if you can....
Steve,
I've been on Weight Watchers for 2 years and lost 90 pounds. I am a size 4 and have never had stomach stapling. If you follow the eating plan and work out, you can lose the weight without surgery. Maybe YOU should do a little research.
yay! for Jennifer taking on eating healthy, My health got soooo much better once I lost the weight and the intra-abdominal fat. Now I see that fat around the thighs has been linked to brain function loss in old age! She's always been beautiful and such an example of grace- now she's leading in self-discipline too
I like how all the women in Hollywood think curvy is a size 6 or less. I'm sorry but curvy is like a size 10-12 with some meat on her thighs, butt and breasts. It's funny that we all have come to a conclusion, in society, that anything over a size 6 is fat. I'll always be in the size 8-12 category because of the way of my body is and i am proud of it! Maybe people should embrace on eating well and excerise to be heathly and live longer!!

No, they think SKINNY is a size or less. I'm 5'7", size 0, with plenty of meat on my bones. What I DON"T have is a bunch of fat. I focus on eating right and doing fitness activities I love, and my rockin' strong body comes naturally as a result. I'm not going to carry around a bunch of dead weight so I have a little more boob for dudes to ogle at. They are too busy staring at my butt and legs anyway... 2 1/2 years ago I was a size 14, and depressed and miserable and FAT, been there, done that, and don't plan on going back to FAT. I was not curvy when I was fat, and I'm not curvy now. I am a long, lean powerhouse. That is my shape and I love it.
Some of you can live with lower standards for yourselves if you want to, but don't rain on the parade of those who have higher standards and succeed in meeting them. Go Jennifer! Only you can decide the weight is right for you.
What I find is messed up is how so many women seem to base their self-worth on their weight, as if they are only a piece of meat, good or bad. It's not just men or the media who objectify us; we do it to ourselves. My body is about average, but in no way do I feel either superior to those who are fatter or inferior to those who are leaner–to do so is just shallow.
God Hollywood is so messed up. She's a size 6 and she says ". "I don't want to lose any more weight, and you're never going to see me skinny," Hudson told the magazine. "I think this is a good, natural size for me." No wonder there are so many people with eating disorders in North America. We're all trying to reach something that's unattainable because everyone thinks a size 6 is still fat!
It's pretty sad that so many people are either in denial or it's become the norm that size 16 is 'normal' and anything below that is 'skinny'.
Biologically. Objectively. Whatever way you look at it. Size 16 is fat (with some exceptions to the rule). Work out. Better yourself. You'll live longer, look better, and feel better.
This is her choice if this is what she wants. She was fine the way she was to me. But again that is her choice. But let me bleed in some reality for the rest of us working stiffs and poor folk.
She, like Oprah, has money, money for the personal trainer, the gym, not to mention the chef and the expensive food to keep it going. We don't. We can probably do general exercise depending on our health. But when it comes to buying an abundance of fresh fruits and veggies, the prices are high. We can eat them, but some times due to lack of of monies, we have to forego them and eat what we can pay for.
As for a sizes 6-14, that is skinny and always has been. Whomever says it isn't needs their head examined.
As for the rest of us, we need to learn to be happy in the skin we're in. Better it within our means, but don't go to the extreme where we're nuts and looking down on each other.
"As for a sizes 6-14, that is skinny and always has been. Whomever says it isn't needs their head examined. "
Your sense of "skinny" is skewed. I was a size 14 (and 6-12 as well) and can tell you that I was "fit" but still in the obese weight catagory. It is not all about how much you weigh, but about your bmi. If you weigh 180 and your bmi is above 24, then you are 24% FAT. You are borderline obese. If your bmi is higher, you are OBESES. Even if you are fit. Even if your blood pressure, heart rate, and anything else is normal. You are carrying more than 24% body fat. It is in NO WAY healthy. You cannot spin it to be ok or "curvy". The numers do not lie. Get over your feelings, and get real. Fat CAN be beautiful, but it is in no way healthy. It is not about fashion, or clothing sizes. Those things are irrelevant. The human body should be treated well, and forcing it to carry around extra weight is not good for your heart, your bones and your ligaments. I had back problems, asthma, and other issues. I worked out twice a day and ate what I thought at the time was healthy. It was not. I changed my diet, worked out once a day and lost 40lbs. I am between a 6 and an 8 and am by no means "skinny". Skinny is in the eye of the beholder, but let me tell you... I still have fat, still have muscle and you cannot see any bones. I am not considered skinny. I think people are so used to seeing themselves heavier that when they actually hit a healthy weight, they think that they look sickly.
If you have a BMI of 24 you are most certainly NOT carrying 24% fat. A high BMI does not reflect body composition. It is a formula comparing weight to height. A person can have 5% body fat and a BMI of 30 if they are carrying a lot of muscle.
There are many ways to measure body fat percentage but BMI is NOT one of them.
I wonder what snarky thing Beyonce has to say about her now! Go Jennifer a class act at both size 6 and 16!
I'm 5'9 between a size 6 and 8 depending on the brand and I'm not skinny. I'm thin. I'm in my healthy weight range and I'm happy where I am. I'm sure whatever reasoning went into her losing weight is what was best for her. People shouldn't really care as much as you all do. You don't know her so how can you judge her?
She looks like all the other Popsicle's in Hellywood. Oh my goodness Jennifer what have you done?! Once you TRULY find yourself you'll see. Good luck.
I give it until Thanksgiving, she ain't fulling me, the girl likes to eat!!! Like most who've been heavy and I mean in the eyes of Hellywood, you can't loose that much weight in so little time and keep it off. So we'll have to wait and see.

lose
I think she looks fantastic. I am African American as well. Too many African American men and women are dying every day from obesity. I think Jennifer looked great at a size 16 and even better now. She said the reason she wanted to lose weight was for health reasons, not weight reasons. I am proud of her and I wish her much success in the future as she continues to maintain a healthy lifestyle. This picture shows you can be healthy and still have curves!
She was beautiful before she lost all the weight. She looks amazing and healthy..so long as she is happy, that's all that matters.
J.Hud! You look fantastic Ms Hudson.
"you'll never see me skinny"???? Since when is size 6 not skinny??? Ah, the joys of celebrity-dom.
What can I say but WOW she has always been beautiful but she goes beyond that now. Her boy friend is an idiot not to like what he has now. But then there are guys that love fat women.
If Jennifer is happy then I am happy for her. As long as she did it for her own reasons I'm cool with it. I think she is lovely either way.
Jennifer Hudson is a beautiful girl both before and after the weight loss. However, while the weight loss was dramatic and easy to notice, that is not a size 6. She is reported to be 5 feet 8 inches tall and, at that height, if the woman was wearing a size 6 she would look half the size that Jennifer is now.
A lot of you obviously don't know the difference between "curvy" versus "obese." Being curvy is one thing, but being obese and unhealthy is another. What's more important? I'd go for the healthy. If you are the type of person who things having "curves" are everything, well, let's see if you will feel the same way when you or a "curvy" friend of yours ends up having diabetes or a heart attack.
Funny – my friend who's a size 6 has diabetes. She's that exercises all the time and eats well and always has – yet she's the one with it.
The one that's obese? Perfect cholesterol levels, textbook blood pressure. She just happens to be fat.
That would be me.
I see your point, but that doesn't exclude the thousands of people who are obese and have diabetes and have heart problems. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean that everyone else who is obese is healthy. You can't deny that obese people DO go through heart problems and are most often contracted with diabetes. I'm basing it on a factual, statistic perspective, good for you that you are healthy, but so many other people aren't, including those that are slim as well.
My aunt died of lung cancer at 50 years old and never smoked, ergo, everyone should smoke? Just because you know someone of healthy weight with diabetes (and what type of diabetes? because type 1 is not related to weight at all) doesn't mean we should all be obese. That's nonsensical. Obesity carries a litany of health risks, most significantly, premature death. This is a fact, no matter who you know how died of heart disease or stroke at a healthy weight.
Jennifer is a talented young woman who has shown tremendous strength and grace in the face of tragedy. Choosing to be healthy now that she is herself a mother is an admirable endeavor. She eats proper portions and exercies, the best way to reach a healthy weight. I couldn't be happier for her.
Thanks Meg!
are you going to have a pat yourself on the back party?
If she shaves her head, she'll look more D-Wade from the Miami Heat!
LMFAO 😀
"Size 6" – which clothing line? The actual garment measurements vary from one manufacturer to another, sometimes by 1.5 inches or more (that's a big difference in a waist or hip measurement). A typical size 6 today was a size 8 or 10 several years back. It's called "vanity sizing." Jennifer Hudson's current weight is likely much healthier for her, and I'm glad she feels better about her looks. All of you who think her previous size was okay clearly have no understanding of obesity and the health risks that accompany it. No wonder obesity is a national epidemic.
I just know that she is one of those reality singing girls. i never thought she was pretty to begin with. However looking at this picture she kinda looks like a big mouth bass now. 😀
And this comment just makes YOU a big-mouth *ss, period.
Don't worry, with all that money she can afford a personal chef and a personal trainer, but is she really happy?
Look at all those celebs who took weight off the just put it back on again. Let's see if she is the same size same date next year.
Sorry but there's no way in hell that picture is accurate, no matter how much weight she lost.
You're right. I'm a size zero and I would look meatier than that photo. She's been photoshopped down to a zero or smaller. It's a shame they photoshppped her. Size 6-8 women (in my opinion) are the healthy ideal. I hear all the ladies out there who have weight to lose saying "I'll never be a size 6". Maybe not, but neither will I. A lot of "zero" women wouldn't mind a few curves. I just wished they'd left Jennifer's real curves on the magazine.
I agree with Sarah above... I've always thought people overuse "curvy" and underuse "obese." We're facing an epidemic, people! She probably feels way better than at size 16 and probably is stoked on her progress... Size 6 is perfectly healthy and definitely NOT too skinny....All of you who are criticizing are probably sitting on your couch mowing down a bag of chips, the type of people who hate that thin, healthy people are beautiful.
well... only a lazy dude would need his ladies to be "big" targets
big women need lovin too.
ok i get it... big men, like my friend mike here, need lovin and big women are the easiest for them to catch without getting off the couch or letting go of their big gulp
actually it's a beer, not a big gulp, but......Yes!
Thin doesn't necessarily mean 'healthy' just like thin people aren't free of cellulite either. I'm in the medical field and you'd be amazed to know how many 'thin' people have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, poor cardio-vascular resistance, kidney dysfunction, etc. Thin does not equate healthy... at all.
TRUE beauty has nothing to do with your outward appearance.
She'll be fat again in 12 months.
and in rehab...hahahahahahah
Perhaps, but you'll still be an insensitive ***hole.
I am happy and proud that Jennifer was able to lose her weight, but I do feel that a size 6 is entirely too thin for any woman. My doctor told me that for my frame and size, I need to be down to the weight of 125. I assured him that my husband doesn't want a bone, he prefers meat on his prime rib. I did get down to 150 and everyone thought I was sick. So I hope that this doesn't cause any problems with her relationship and even her success.
You know, just because people thought you were sick at 150 doesn't mean that every other woman on the planet looks or feels the same. You sound very egotistical in your statement, as if everybody has to resort to your standard of what size is healthy to actually be healthy. Women come in many sizes, shapes, and heights, and you know what, there are such thing as healthy people who are size 6, hell, even 0, and are perfectly healthy because it fits THEM. Just because a size 6 isn't for you doesn't mean that it's a bad thing or that it is unhealthy for somebody else, for some women, it is perfectly fine, for some, it is not. And who are you to say that it may ruin somebody's relationship or career? C'mon now.
Pamela, I completely agree with you. At the "ideal" weight for my height, I had sunken cheekbones and looked ill. I wore a size 8 at the time. I gained weight to a size 16, and was told both by doctors and by family that they thought I looked so much better and much healthier. At that point, I weighed 170. And frankly, that's when I felt best, too. So to me, THAT is my perfect weight.
I take offense to that statement that size 6 is too thin for any woman. I am a size 6 and am very healthy. I would literally be fat and miserable if I weighed 150 lbs. You can keep your weight, my man likes his wife healthy, free of diabetes and without a huge belt of fat sagging over the top of my jeans.
By the way, size 16 is fat. You can call if curvy if that makes you feel better, but let's call it what it is: FAT. I'm so sick of seeing fat people everywhere. It's disgusting. And you are driving up health care costs with all of your complications of being "curvy".
Pamela, your statement is the most ignorant I've seen in quite awhile. Who are you to say that a size 6 is unhealthy for "any" woman? When did you start to represent every woman? I'm a size 0 and I'm perfectly healthy, so what does that make me, anorexic? How about those who are sizes 1-6? Are you just going to label them as being ill just because in your egotistical world a size 6 is "unhealthy"? Do you honestly think that just from your experience, that every other woman is "unhealthy" at a certain size because you looked sickly? Sorry, but if you are gonna act like you are some expert on what size a woman "should" be, at least express that opinion with facts instead of basing it entirely on your ego. Women come in many shapes, sizes, and heights, which is why we have different clothes sizes to begin with, and every woman is different and as long as she IS healthy, who are you to say that they aren't?
I take serious offense to the statement that a size 6 is entirely too thin for any woman. Are you serious? I am 5'8" and I wear a size four and look healthy and fabulous. You do not see any ribs showing; you do not see my spine showing, and most of all, you do not see any flab hanging over the top of my pants. I am long and lean. What looks right to you and your husband is not the end all to be all. I understand how a size 6 may be out of reach for you, but please, stop generalizing.
Funny, yet all of you "size 6"s who are SOOO offended that someone called you skinny and unhealtly are the first to stand in line and say any woman over the size of, ohh, I don't know, size 6, is "fat and unhealthy." Are you at the doctor's office with these "fat and unhealthy" women. Would it surprise you to know that someone who's a size 12 has a runner's pulse and a blood pressure that is less than most people's?? That this person has barely taken one sick day a year over the last twenty years. Hmmm, sounds like a real drain on society if you ask me!!
Pam-There is nothing wrong with being skinny. I'm 5'2 and 100lbs size 0 and my boyfriend loves how tiny I am and DOES NOT want a porker for a girlfriend. So I guess if you are thrilled with your bady and i'm thrilled with mine and there is no reason for you to hate on girls who are skinny since you are so happy with how you look.
Pamela, I agree with you. While I am overweight myself and I admit it I am on Weight Watchers myself, I don't think I "look" morbidly obese, nor does anyone else but according to whatever these Dr’s say I am obese, to me morbidly obese people are people waddling when they walk, with rolls of fat sticking out of their stretch pants. I think they need to redefine that term morbidly obese, it sounds degrading, overweight yes. But when I do lose weight, I should be 140, but at 140, I do look "sick" and honestly that’s not how I want to look, healthy or not a good state of mind and not being depressed because you are a few pounds overweight is better than fitting in a size 6. And not that I'm trying to justify anything. Americans being the county with the most obese people . . . Other countries . . . don’t have proper drinking water let alone food to eat that is why they are emaciated! And another thing, my grandmother is 93 years old, still living and she was to today’s standards overweight, no major health issues she ate whatever she wanted. I think this cholesterol kick is pharmaceutical companies and dr’s wanting to make some bucks. Do you know that Cholesterol medications cause liver damage, what you want high cholesterol or liver damage? While I agree that there is a huge case of diabetes, but Mother’s need to feed their kids right not trips to MickyD’s, of BK and call it a meal that’s what’s wrong. So lay off the obese comments. Size 6 is skinny!!!
Unfortunately, we have a society of younger women who think that if you are a size 16 you are fat. Katy – I am old enough to remember Hollywood icons such as Marilyn Monroe, who was a size 14-16. I have struggled with weight my entire life and have never been "unhealthy". I have lost 90 pounds in the last year (on Weight Watchers!), and I am very happy with it, but I get very tired of people (especially other women) being so judgmental about how people look. It is assumed that overweight people are all stupid, lazy and over eaters. This is simply just not true. I have a gorgeous daughter that suffers from a medical condition that causes her to be insulin resistance, hence she puts on weigh easily and has a very difficult time getting it back off. She eats healthy foods and exercises regularly, but it's still very difficult for her. When we generalize about how others look and that they must be just lazy and stupid and unhealthy, maybe we should walk a mile in their shoes. And – let's teach our kids good nutrition does not come out of a box of chemically enhanced food that's cheap and easy, or at the drive up window at the fast food restaurant of their choice.
@Lilybean58- Marilyn Monroe was a size 14-16 when sizes were measured differently. You can't honestly look at a picture of Monroe and look at a picture of Jennifer Hudson when she was a size 16 and tell me they are even remotely close to the same size. That picture on the cover could be compared to Marilyn Monroe's body, and that's a size 6 that's probably been photoshopped down a little bit. Congrats on losing weight, and yes some people have great difficulty losing weight, no matter how healthy they are, but I believe Jennifer Hudson wasn't being healthy before this weight loss and that's the most important message people should be taking away from this.
Please do not generalize that a size 6 is too thin. I am a size 4, 5'4" and I do not look sickly... at all. In fact, most people compliment me. If I were heavier than I am now, I would feel gross. I have always been naturally thin, and as I have gotten older, I have to work harder at it by eating healthy and working out. I have curves and am not bony, I am just toned and lean. Our country is FAT, not curvy. I am sure there are healthy overweight people, but most people that are a 16 are probably not too healthy. Someone who wears a size 16 should not be wearing a bikini either, and I love looking good in a bikini 🙂
It was only a matter of time before someone brought up Marilyn Monroe.
Yes, she was a 14-16. I encourage you to visit a vintage clothing store and try on a dress in that size from that era. You'll find it comparable to a *gasp* size *6* in today's fashions.
Someone at size 6 can be healthy or not. Or a size 0 or even (wait for it) a size 16. OMG Did she say a size 16 could be healthy??? .People come in all shapes, sizes and levels of health. People need to get over it and take care of themselves. Jennifer gets to decide what works for her and her life. In her business the need to be UNDERWEIGHT is pushed. And size 6 IS thin. Not underweight, but thin. If she is happy at 6, great. Is she is happy at 16, also great. Let people be who they are as long as they are happy and healthy. Just being bigger DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY UNHEALTHY!!!! The BMI charts are created for insurance companies and are not even accurate. So look in the mirror, look in your heart, talk to your doctor. And find what works for you!!
Size 6 is not to small for any woman. You have to take into consideration the persons bone structure, height, etc. I am 4 ft. 9 inches "short" and at a size six I am still 15 lbs over my ideal weight. That comes from doctors not hollywood standards.
@ Collina- i find it funny how you obviously didn't read all of the comments that "all the size 6's people" posted, basically accusing everyone for saying that anything above a size 6 is unhealthy. Maybe you can knock down the person who maybe suggested that, but to me it just seems as if you read only one comment and then use that to generalize everybody's opinions, basically derailing the subject. Nice try, but basically, you obviously just didn't read all of the comments.
Ok, a size 6 would be super-skinny on some people, and normal to large on others, depending on height and frame. At my thinnest I was a size 8 and VERY thin. I weighed about 145-150 lbs at this time (I'm 5'10"). My hip bones stuck out as did my ribs. Some people told me I looked ill, and others said I looked great. Different people find different things attractive, of course. (And no, I wasn't sick. I wasn't even trying to lose weight, I was just very stressed out by school and a cheating boyfriend in addition to being far more active than I am now.)
Right now I weigh about 175 and wear a size 12-14. Would I like to lose weight? Sure. Do I want to be that thin again? Not really. I'm aiming for a size 10 at the smallest, for my height and frame. The people (mostly white guys) who thought I looked really good thin probably think I'm fat now, but I still get hit on left and right by black and hispanic men, who I guess "like some meat on the bones". (I'm white, for the record.)
now all she needs is a new rack and a pole to dance on and collect dollar bills
She may be a six, but that pic shows a 2 or a 0. It's completely photoshopped. Unnecessary.
that pic is not a 2 or zero!!!
That picture is completely photoshopped! I'm a size 6 and don't look like that. Looks like they shaved about 2 sizes off of her.
I agree this is photoshopped, aren't they all?...either way a size 6 is skinny and it's sad that even after all that weight loss she still doesn't believe that 🙁
Depends on how much you're trying to stuff into a size six.
Maybe this lady really should be wearing that size.
That is a size 6 of pure muscle- not fat. Big difference. It's what I look like in a 6. You also have to factor in height and body fat distribution. Some people put weight on in different areas and take it off in different places first. I have to be 15 lbs over my normal weight (120 lbs) before my waist gets above a 24 inches.
Every image in every magazine is photoshopped. Don't think it's just Jennifer. Look up a video on youtube called "The Photoshop Effect". But, if you also look closely at the picture, she's not being seen head on, but slightly turned. That also hides some of her dress size.
I agree! I just saw a new WW commercial with her today & she DID NOT look that thin. Her thighs were still big. She's no size 6.
She looks great ! Maybe she just wanted to be healthier.....
You know, there is a big difference between "healthier" and "gross and unhealthy." Although, now that you mention it...."fat people" are unhealthy.
Good for Jennifer! She looks great!
But so are the millions of teenage girls who think size 0 is something they should all strive toward. What about the eating disorders?
Skinney is not necessarily healthy! I have size-0 friends who are absolute couch potatoes and eat nothing but fast food. I refuse to believe that they are healthier than myself, a size 10 swimmer who is careful of her dietary habits. True, size 16 is unhealthy but don't assume that people are healthy because they are skinney.
She looks good but she is no adams apple tranny like lady gaga
+1000000
I love Jennifer Hudson and I love her new transformation as well. Yes she is a hell of a young lady, and she is a lady among many. However I am wondering where she is trying to go with all these changes. Jennifer have always been very beautiful even before the weight loss.(FABULOUS) Jen don't take yourself tooooooooo far out of bounce. Change is very good, but there is a limit to all things.
Maybe having a child has changed her perspective on life. When I had children, I saw my body as a reflection of what I would be teaching them as a healthy lifestyle. I too wanted to become healthy, and as a result, lost weight by changing my eating habits. And like Jennifer, I lost a lot of weight in a reasonable amount of time.
uhhh size 6 is skinny!
i agree with everyone who mentioned "you'll never see me skinny" YOU'RE A SIZE 6. seems normal to me. so what's the average size of a woman in the US these days? isn't it bigger than that? I don't know but I'm just saying wow-size 0 to me is not necessarily "skinny" it's just smaller people.
I agree. "I'll never be skinny" and she's a size 6? So what, a 6 is fat now? I've been a size 10 for ever and I don't feel fat, I feel average. But according to Jennifer Hudson, who has 7 days a week and 24 hours a day to work out, it is probably fat. If everyone had infinite amounts of free time like celebrities, we could all be a size 6.
Have to agree with this. A size 6 is skinny and it's hypocritical of her to say she won't be skinny, because she is.
Size 6 = normal healthy weight. Skinny is underweight. I found nothing wrong with Jennifer's comment.
A size 6 is healthy, not skinny by Hollywood standards and I believe that is what she is trying to say. That she'll never be a size 0 or 2. People have different definitions of "skinny" and in Hollywood skinny is not a size 6.
Size 10 is average and size 10 is fat. If people could read minds, size 10 ladies would hear folks walking behind them thinking "wide load." We have become a culture of settling instead of pressing for excellence. It shows in school, in job performance, and in appearance. Case in point, check out the "vanity sizing" of women's fashion. Let's applaud this talented artist who decided to work toward a excellent appearance to match her excellent talent. Size 10 ladies, follow her lead.
Most likely, she still mentally sees herself as that size 16 girl she's been for years. When I dropped a significant amount of weight, it was always a shock to my brain how thin I really was. In my own head, I still pictured myself as that bigger girl!
I agree...since when is a size 6 not skinny? It really irks me that the says "you'll never see me skinny" as if being a size six is overweight (of course for Hollywood, any thing over a size 0 seems to be considered fat.) When I was growing up the smallest size you could find was a size 4-and only teenage girls seemed to fit into it.
Also, BMI is not an accurate measurement of healthy weight, as it does not take into account bone density or muscle mass. Even after losing 160 pounds I was considered "overweight" by BMI standards, despite being a size 8. I was very muscular, but muscle mass isn't part of BMI, so I was considered "overweight." My body may have been smaller, but I didn't look healthy because of the excess skin on my body (part of the reason I re-gained some weight) and my face looked gaunt. Now I am definitely what people would call overweight. I go to the gym 5 days a week for at least an hour a day and work out (cardio and weights) harder than some of the girls 1/2 my size (who seem to be there to watch the TVs on the machines). I eat reasonable portions and very little processed food. I know I have better cardio fitness than some "skinner" folks and a healthier diet-yet I am still overweight. The last time I lost weight I had to starve and overwork myself to do so-I'd rather be a little heavier and fit than skinnier and unhealthy (the way I was before.)
I agree ... size 6 is SKINNY! It's fabulous and I would LOVE to be there ... and it's SKINNY!
@Observant... sorry dont think that should be your name at all. Give us a break. Size 10 is not "wide load" or fat. I am 5'8" and 147lbs. I am between a size 8/10 and guarantee I am not fat. If you look up my BMI, its healthy. If you check my bod fat %, its also healthy. You believe a little bit too much in all the size 2/ airbrushing lies.
Actually, today's size 6 is a good size for most frame types at 5'6" but it isn't skinny except for the largest frames. I have clothes in my closet from 10 years ago that are a size 4-6 that fit me, but when I shop for clothes today I'm actually wearing a size 0-2. I have a tiny frame and my weight is darn near perfect, and I am in great shape. How many of you are wearing the same size you were 10 years ago but you're actually FATTER now? Carrying around extra dead weight serves no purpose. If you think a size 0 is unhealthy, I'll race you, or challenge you to chin-ups, I bet I'll win.
How is a size 6, on a 5'9 frame, not skinny? If JH really thinks this, she has lost her connection to reality. At 5'3 and at a 6 (at my height, not "skinny," but by no means overweight). Anyway Jennifer was beautiful before and she's beautiful now–just different–and physically healthier. If she feels better about herself at her new size then good for her. Despite being a Hollywood commodity in the end her body belongs to her, after all. Sad though, I doubt people get all worked up like this over her WORK.
We have enough skinny girls in Hollywood. I thought Ms. Hudson's face was prettier when she was a size 16. I mean, good for her if this is what she wanted, but I've always admired her for being full-figured and well loved. She let us all know you can be big and happy, too, and disregard societal "norms" which are not always "normal" or "healthy" or even attractive. This guy likes his gals curvy and loves it when the curvy women love themselves!
Im sorry its one thing to be "curvy" but a size 16 is NOT curvy, that is well outside the range of healthy! I think 7-11 on a 5'6 frame is about right....anything more or less and you are getting into unhealthy. There is a reason America is the number one obese country out there. People have become SO politically correct that when you see people at size 16 you call them curvy as to not insult them. A 16 IS HUGE for a woman of 5'6, a weight of roughly 180 pounds. That is just NOT healthy!
And look at this pic, its probably photoshopped to look even smaller and this is what curvy looks like! So you add an additional 40 pounds to this and thats no longer curvy, thats chunky!
Sarah is absolutely right. I think people focus so much on what's "curvy" instead of focusing on what is point blank, not healthy. There is a difference. Curvy is one thing, but being overweight is another. For many stars like Hudson, it is not just about looks, it is also about being healthier. At the end of the day, being "curvy" isn't everything!
Yes 16 may be way more than curvy but she also refers to being size 6 as "I might never be skinny.." Sigh,.
Being full figured, and whatever size you may call that and being healthy is different. People get upset when people loose weight and become healthier...it's not always about looking smaller or being a smaller size, as it is about being healthy, lowering your blood pressure, your BMI – that is science, not Hollywoods influence.
I was just in size 16 jeans. I'm 5'6" and I was almost 200 pounds. I had been 135 until I turned 50 by being on the Atkins diet. Then family members started dropping dead, menopause kicked in and my husband had a nervous breakdown. Instead of turning to the bottle I took up with the cheesy poofs. I looked like Jabba the Hutt. Back on Atkins and dropped 25 pounds in 3 months. Feel so much better. Atkins died of a head injury. The people who don't want you to believe that are the ones that have stock in Kraft who came up with all the low-fat products that they now must sell. That's what will kill you. As they take out the fat they up the sodium (salt) and carbs (sugar). Hmm hypertension and diabetes on the rise. I wonder why?
Okay, frame sizes differ, people! At 5'7, a size 16 and 175 lbs my body fat percentage is only 15.5%. Several doctors have told me I shouldn't let my weight go any lower than 146 because of my abnormally large frame for my height. Just because someone looks larger visually doesn't mean their health is in danger. You aren't their doctor.
All of you smug and hateful know-nothings out there really need to start using the energy you're spending tearing others down to try to maybe understand why this feeling of superiority is so important to you. It doesn't make you a better person, or more valid, or more worthwhile to anyone.
Size 16 is not bad at all! What is wrong with you people? I am 5'6" & remember when I had to starve myself to fit into a size 7. I was 118 ibs & wanted so desperately to fit into size 5 but could never get there. Just read an artice about Christina Hendricks of Mad Men. She is a size 12 & I pray she doesn't jump on the size 0 or 2 bandwagon. Talk about unhealty! BTW...size 6 is skinny! That comment, from Jennifer Hudson, was very irresponsible.
BTW, Norm, I bet you ain't nothing to look at.
@ A Different Sarah – I don't think it's "hateful" for someone to point out that there is a different between being curvy and being fat. I agree that many people are hurtful and nasty when discussing weight but obesity is an epidemic in this country and factual discussions (i.e., she was overweight before) are a healthy step toward addressing this serious problem in our country. Many health problems (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.) literally go away when people lose weight. To address your comment, though, the minimum weight your doctor suggested is still 30 pounds less than what you weight today so to say that a size 16 can be attributed to body shape doesn't really make sense.
I don't want to sound harsh, but for someone of average height, 6 isn't skinny. It's normal. We read a lot about obesity and BMI over 25, but ideal weight is really A LOT lower than most of us think. Google up a table for ideal weight- you will be shocked. Our standards have changes for what is skinny, but ideal weight is based on mortality rates- actual data about who lives longest. Almost all of us are over our ideal weights.
Uh...Sarah...she is 5'9"...not 5'6". BIG DIFFERENCE. At 5'9", she is a very tall woman. And as that, she doesn't need to weigh 110 pounds.
So shes not 5'6, big deal, either way ANY person could tell by looking at her before that she was fat, not curvy. I dont care what she says she was before (16) or what they say she is now (6) doesnt matter. Look at a picture and you see significant amounts of fat all over her body. NOT HEALTHY PERIOD! Quite trying to make it what its not. People are SO PC now and its NOT OKAY! Im not saying its healthy to be rail thin either but Im tired of hearing people say "shes just thick or curvy" just to be nice when clearly she is just unhealthy and fat. Quite perpetuating the weight issues in this country! Lets face facts and do something about it instead of sugar coating it.

Wow I remember when Sara with or without the h was an unusual name! Anyway I think it was A different Sarah that was correct when she spoke about frame. I have a small frame. 200 pounds on me and I'm at 48% body fat! But I also have to agree with the first Sarah that fat is not fit. It like all the kids on the teams getting trophies. Bull. Any size that you're comfortable with is not OK. We should not be obsessive about being rail thin; but as a nation we are huge. Europeans can always tell the Americans from the Canadians, Brits and Aussies by our waddles. Generally speaking we have not been eating properly for years and it shows.
I think Jennifer's face looks odd now too. There are some people who look (and feel) better with a little more weight on them. Recent studies have shown that people with a "slightly overweight" BMI actually live longer and healthier lives. One reason is likely that they are not stressed about keeping weight off. The other is that they have proper glucose in their bodies to keep them functioning.
I just worry that our obsession with skinny stamps out true health. I'm pretty sure it does. We can't really see that as we see what's on this end of the lens, but what's behind it is more important.
Didn't take long for her to turn into a typical Hollywood hypocrite. Jennifer Hudson, Sara Rue, Kate Winslett...all gorgeous women at any size, but anything to push their PR wagon at a given moment. "I'm happy with my curves." "I'm happier in a smaller dress size" It's Oprah and Kirstey Alley all over again.
Related subject...apparently Drew Carrey didn't get the memo on why Atkins croaked.
There is a common misconception that Dr. Atkins died because of his dietary habits. He died because he fell on the icy winter New York sidewalk and suffered a fatal head injury. I don't subscribe to the Atkins way of eating, but if you read CNN today you will see a study where a low-carb way of eating was actually the best for people with low HDL (good) cholesterol levels and was equally effective at losing weight. Please educate yourself before perpetuating urban legends.
What's so hypocritical about a curvy woman wanting to lose weight? For many of them, it is a lifestyle choice and they want to be healthier. At the end of the day, it's their body and they can do whatever they choose.
there is a difference between LO-CARB and NO-CARB. And I'm not so sure about Atkins' "fall". would have been bad PR if he had passed from his "diet".
Atkins not only died from a fall, but the heart disease everyone likes to make snarky comments about was VIRAL cardiomyopathy. As in caused by a virus, not a steak.
That is a misconception. Many if not most people lose weight for health reasons. Look, yes it comes with it, but health is very (and more) important.
Actually, if people read the article about Drew correctly. They would have read that Drew misspoke about his own shedding of weight. He is eating carbs, but the GOOD carbs. He has cut out all starches and floured forms of carbs, which are bad. He still consumes fruits and vegetables, and eats chicken has his main source of protein. I really dislike when media states this person is a ZERO carb dieter. It is completely misleading. He also stated that he has hit the gym at least 6 days a week. Drew is doing it fine, I just wish is suits fit him more flatteringly, than the ones they have shown in him as of his recently weight loss.
Atkins died after a fall and concussion. The fact that he had a heart condition had nothing to do with his death. I agree with those who say keep the weight down for health reasons. Drew Carey is no longer diabetic. That's the best reason in the world to lose weight. Diabetes costs the health system millions per year when people have to go on dialysis, blood pressure medications, have strokes and heart attacks. We don't need too many curves!
BR, your rhetoric is tired. Blah blah looks good at any size. This is a falacy that allows women to wallow in unhealthy habits because we give them diplomatically considered monikers like "pleasently plump" and "BBW" instead of calling them what they are, fat, obese, overweight. A doctor can tell you what is healthy for your height and build but I guarantee you that if your doctor is genuinely happy with your physical fitness, none of those monikers would apply. You would be considered healthy, slim, and beautiful. That is not hollywood image, that's health. Sure, Hollywood pushes women out of these healthy ranges to the other extreme to the point where women are too skinny, anorexic even. Obviously this wouldn't make your doctor happy either. It's a matter of proper balance and a healthy body image.
60% of you diet should come from carbs, preferrably complex carbohydrates; higher if you engage in endurance sports like distance running. Protein should represent the lowest percentage of your daily calories; a 60/25/15 carb/fat/protein split is ideal for most people. Your brain functions on carbohydrates. Low-carbing deprives your brain of glucose.
Um...get your facts straight. Dr. Atkins died from a fall. He slipped on ice and hit his head. NOT from the diet.
Raven is correct. If you read the article closely, Drew said he 'cut out all carbs', but then he talked about eating fruit and having 'steamed vegetables' with every meal. Those are carbs; good, healthy carbs. What Drew was talking about was cutting all the bad carbs like bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, sugar, etc... Atkins encouraged people to cut out vegetables and fruit as well and just eat meat and all the fat you wanted. That's why Atkin's diet was so unhealthy.
If her husband did care about her health rather than her weight, than he shouldn't have an issue. No. He has control issues that's why he married her. He is already trying to hurt her through food. He is trying to sabotage any changes she makes to her appearance (especially if it makes her feel better) so no one else looks at her.
Jratt, our appearances change through aging and accident. If you are marrying on looks, then don't expect it to last.
Actually, Atkins died because he slipped on ice and hit his head.
Second, he had a viral heart condition, which you can contract from touching the wrong door knob.
Third, to Switbo or whatever your name was, never once in his existence did Atkins advocate eating only meat. It is people like you, who never bother to actually read his book, that perpetuate this misinformation.
Atkins had dieters, during the FIRST of many rungs on his diet, remove ALL starchy vegetables, not just potatoes like you listed. That includes basically every non-green vegetable. This is because starch turns into glucose. He didn't say that they're bad or that you can never eat them again.
It is more unhealthy for an obese person to lose weight slowly and stay obese than it is for them to cut out certain foods and drop carbs very low for awhile while they drop a truck load of fat in a short period of time. As the fat comes off, the Atkins diet has them move to the next step, which adds in a lot of those 'bad' vegetables, then the next steps add fruit, then the next step adds more etc. So that by the time the person is at the end of the diet, they're eating a normal, healthy diet.
You're probably one of those people who think the moment you stop eating low carb, all the fat magically blasts itself back on, which is impossible - you only get fat if you eat too many calories. People who gain fat back after going off a low carb diet at the people that go back to eating the way they used to, which is the way that got them fat to start with. Then they're surprised when they get fat again.
I'm so sick of stupidity.
Jennifer, be anything you want as long as you're HAPPY.
(and feel like singing every now and then)
So you mean Jennifer had to be a size 6 in order to grace the cover of Style Magazine. She should've been on the cover when she was a size 16. I heard she lost the weight because she was playing Winne Mandella. I want the curvy Jennifer back.
Sorry mate, it's not about you, it's about Jennifer. If she wants her curvy body back, she can do it. But I suggest to stay right here, simply because of health reasons more than anything
nothing states here that she couldn't be on the cover at whatever size she wanted, but having seen my wife's fashion trends shift with her weight i know that most women dress more stylish when they feel they are in their ideal weight range because they are happier with their bodies. curves are nice, but all in moderation.
she still looks curvey to me! She looks fantastic. She's not a stick....she just looks healthy and happy instead of over weight, which is bad for your health. She's perfect.....not to skinny and not to large.
@Vegie 1970- Protein should NOT be the lowest percentage! You are correct about carbs, but a person needs roughly 60% carbs and 20% protein and 20% fat. And if a person is doing a strength training routine, slightly more protein. People usually consume plenty of protein however, most of it has a high % of fat, leaner proteins will prevent a person from eating too much fat and therefor eating too many calories. A single gram of fat has 9 calories vs protein with 4 calories per gram.
alex – It's likely that she couldn't be on the cover before now – most of what they wear are "samples" and only come in certain sizes. Also, women dress more stylishly when they're thin because it is difficult to find stylish clothes for fat girls. I am currently on a diet and exercise regimen and hope to lose enough weight to fit into smaller sizes but I will never forget or forgive clothing stores that do not sell anything over a size 12. I have trouble even finding workout clothes in plus sizes. It's just more of society's double standard for fat people – get up out of your house and exercise/you're not welcome in public.
Aww... I love that her husband loved the curvier Jennifer. As long as her personality doesn't change, I'm sure he'll get used to loving her new look as well. 🙂
@ABJ – Give me a break. Size 16 is not "morbidly obese" (which, by the way, is a medical term that you are using completely incorrectly). She was probably in the "overweight" category, at 5'9" and roughly 190 pounds, but not even in the "obese" category, let alone "morbidly obese."
Her size was not healthy, sure, but certainly not a "severe health risk." Just because you find something unattractive doesn't mean it's unhealthy. I'm so sick of these people who try to disguise their disgust for fat people's looks with fake concern for health.
Are you serious, the guy sounds like a real insensitive jerk. Instead of being happy on how healthy she is now, he is whining her boobs are too small. He's a real winner.
@Marie- You are correct, her BMI at size 16 and 190 lbs would put her in the overweight category. I thought she was beautiful at size 16, but even being slightly overweight increases some risks. I'm proud of her for losing the weight and becoming healthier.
if you are 40 pounds overweight then you are morbidly obese and that is what was told to me by a doctor. she was morbidly obese but who cares she looked good then and looks great now. I am glad that she lost the weight because now she can be around longer for us all to hear that wonderful voice.
I agree with ABJ!
Can you say Photoshop?
@Travail: no, morbidly obese is 100% more than your "ideal weight." So unless your doctor told you that your ideal weight is 40 pounds (which would make you, what, the size of a four year old), then that's wrong.
See: http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Morbidly+obese
I noticed in her Weight Watcher commercial, we never really get a look at her. She stays in the shadows and never gets up.. I think that commercial was taped before she really lost any weight to speak of. I know its not easy to lose weight and keep it off. If that magazine cover is really her remains to be seen. But I wish her luck.
Gigi, Host of Girls Talk TV went through her fat phase (from 115 to 148) and it was not easy. She went from family telling her she was too skinny to her sisters telling her that her butt was way too big. Why has our society given into this false image that skinny=beauty? And we've fallen so hard too. We forget what's really important. List your top 10. Are they important to you or important to our society and then you. Is it all a facade?
@Mary, I think by "morbidly obese", ABJ was talking about the risk she posed to her husband, like accidentally rolling on top of him and squishing him like a tomato – very morbid indeed!
If she admits publicly to a size 16, then she was really probably an 18 or a 20. Looking at that picture, I don't see how anyone could think she looks anything other than great – she neither needs to add or lose more weight. She's still super curvy, and it's accentuated more by her smaller waistline. At her height and frame, I don't think she could go much smaller than a 6 anyway. I sell women's garments, and it is amazing how sizing gone to either XS or plus size.
I thought she was happy with her size before. She was always saying that she liked h er size, blah blah, apparently that was a bunch of crap! Seems like the pressure of being a thin woman got to her too.
BMI is how you define obesity. BMI 20-25 is good. 25-30 is overweight. 30-40 is obese and 40 or greater is morbid obesity. You need height and weight to calculate it. 5'9" and 190 lbs is BMI of 28.1, which is overweight. With advancing age, the body fats naturally increases. Additionally, overweight people tend to become obese, so its always best to make effort to reduce it. BMI calculators are available on the net.-ObGyn, MD
Marie = 200 + lbs. I'd bet my house on it.
Kristin, he was just joking about her boob size, stop being so sensitive, grow up
I can not believe the comment about a nose job, what is wrong with her nose? She looks fantastic just the way she is.
Dumb comment.
Bunch of fat people in here trying to justify being fat. There is no need to justify it, stop eating junk food and exercise a few times a week and you'll lose weight. Its really not hard, it just takes dedication.
Marie, couldn't have said it better. P.S. THIS is gorgeous. Jennifer says she'll never be skinny. Who cares? Skinny looks disgusting on most people, AND is just as unhealthy, albeit in different ways/with dif. side-effects. Jennifer looks beautiful, and her body looks perfect. When will women realize that all most men care about are hip to waist ratio. That's all! They were specifically programmed that way! Some might be more breast men, or leg men, or butt men, but it still boils down to hip to waist, and not thinness. Runway models have been thin in the past because they need to fit the sample size, and it is cheaper to use less fabric than more. Designers save the expense for the gowns people actually order and make a real profit on. Think model plane, or model house. Same reasoning. But size 0 doesn't pertain to the actual desirability of a woman.
@Tobias: really? That's the best you can do? "OMG I BET YOU'RE FAT!!!"
Grow up.
What's in a word? Obese...morbidly obese...? Fat is Fat...there's no way to sugarcoat it people. Sure she was fat, but she did something about it, unlike most of the readers making comments on here. If you don't want to be labeled as overweight, obese, morbidly obese, etc. then put down the ice cream and snacks that's you're eating while online reading this and get to work!
@Fitness Coach...you hit it right on the head!
Skinny has never been considered unhealthy, although anorexic is... Why keep extra weight on when it could contribute to being unhealthy? Some of these commentors just don't get it.
@Marie – you sound fat...
Congrats to Jennifer..my heart goes out to her for the tragedy that she has indured..I pray for her strength.
Depending on the underlying build of a person size 16 can definitely be considered morbidly obese. This is the problem about our overweight society, too many people not understanding the risks of people who are dangerously, MEDICALLY obese. She is a small statured woman, she was medically and morbidly obese. Its time for all of us to be concerned about the fattening of America, espcially its children.
love to have your old size 16 clothes. I am almost into that size & I'm happy with 16's You look nice at 16 & 6. you were my favorite idol. Your voice is that of an angel. your so beautiful. I love that your not ashamed to talk & sing of Our Lord.God Bless your baby & the rest of your family.I'm a big fan!!!!!!!!!!!
she was much bigger than a 16.. and this cover is totally airbrushed.. Its all fake.. she will gain it back GUARANTEED
Americans are way too much overweight. Anyone making excuses for being big does not care about themselves. Someone who expects their partner to love them no matter how big they get is so totally wrong. Americans are lazy and they want everyone around them to be just as lazy as them and when someone does something about their weight it just makes these lazy people furious with themselves because they wish they could lose weight too. By lazy, I not only mean those that sit and stuff their faces drinking diet sodas, feasting on sugary foods, etc., but also those that are lazy and ignore their health by not having their thyroid checked or some other medical issues that may contribute to their huge size. Come on Americans! Get FIT!
@Fitness Coach while no one can be certain about the size of anyone commenting on this article, I am certain of two things 1. Losing weight is difficult work and anyone who says otherwise has never had to do it and 2. If you are truly a Fitness Coach I feel sorry for all those you are "helping".
Jennifer looks great, love the dress.. not so sure about the buzzed head though..
from fatty to hottie. dig it. You go!!!
I doubt that, actually. Most men are pretty harsh when it comes to the looks of the women they are with. It goes both ways. You get too fat, they stray, you get too skinny, they do too.
