Lady Gaga on sex, drugs and immigration

Of all the reasons not to have sex, Lady Gaga may have stumbled upon another one.

“I have this weird thing that if I sleep with someone they’re going to take my creativity from me through my vagina,” Gaga told Vanity Fair in their September issue.

But the 24-year-old star, who admitted that she doesn’t trust anyone, isn’t finding many opportunities to…have her creativity stolen, these days, anyway.

“I’m drawn to bad romances,” Gaga told VF. “And my song [“Bad Romance”] is about whether I go after those [sort of relationships] or if they find me. I’m quite celibate now; I don’t really get time to meet anyone.”

Gaga also opened up to the magazine about drug use, admitting that while she’s “terrified of heroin” she does do a little cocaine on occasion. “And when I say occasional, I mean a couple of times a year,” Gaga clarified, perhaps to disassociate her current use of drugs from the way she consumed them in her past.

There was a period in her life when she was “completely mental," Gaga said, and while Vanity Fair notes that she had been using drugs, Gaga doesn't offer many specifics.

“All I will say is I hit rock bottom, and it was enough to send a person over the edge. My mother knew the truth about that day, and she screamed so loud on the other end of the phone, I’ll never forget it," Gaga recalled.

Her mother hauled the young musician off to her 82-year-old grandmother’s house in West Virginia. After Gaga shed tears over what she thought was a hopeless situation, her grandmother responded, ‘I’m gonna let you cry for a few more hours. And then after those few hours are up, you’re gonna stop crying, you’re gonna pick yourself up, you’re gonna go back to New York, and you’re gonna kick some ass.’ ”

It may sound inspiring, but Gaga was quick to note that she didn’t want her fans thinking that was a necessary stumbling block on the road to success.

“I do not want my fans to ever emulate that or be that way,” she told the magazine. “I don’t want my fans to think they have to be that way to be great. It’s in the past. It was a low point, and it led to disaster.”

Clearly the pop star is fully aware of the influence she has over her fans, and recently explained what she thought they should do in response to the Arizona immigration law SB1070.

Although Gaga did choose to perform a concert in Phoenix Saturday instead of joining a “Sound Strike," she did address the contentious issue.

“Thank you so much for buying a ticket to see my show, Arizona…Tonight, I want you to free yourself. I want you to let go of all of your insecurities. I want you to reject any person or anything or any law that have ever made you feel like you don’t belong," she said over the cheers of the audience.

"I got a phone call from a couple of big rock and rollers, big pop stars, big rappers, and they said, we’d like you to boycott Arizona," she went on. "And I said, ‘you really think that us dumb [expletive] pop stars are going to collapse the economy in Arizona? I’ll tell you what we have to do about SB1070."

The artist, who had "Stop SB1070" written on her arm, told the audience, "We have to be active. We have to actively protest...I will not cancel my show...I will hold you, and we will hold each other, and we will peaceably protest this state. Do not be afraid. Because if it wasn’t for all of you immigrants this country wouldn’t have [expletive].”

The September issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands nationwide on Tuesday, August 10.

@Pepe Santos and others. Comparing coke to crack is way off base. Yes, crack is coke, but modified with so many chemicals that there barely is any actual cocaine in it which is why it is 100 X more addicitive than cocaine! Its like comparing Tylenol w/codeine to Oxycontin. lol....

Isn't admitting you use the drug Coke the equivalent of an undercover drug sting. I mean, how come she can admit she uses illegal drugs and not be imprisoned? She says this and our teens are immediately influenced by their idol.

You think the war in Iraq was costing us too much? Read this:

We have been hammered with the propaganda that it was the Iraq war and the war on terror that is bankrupting us.

I now find that to be RIDICULOUS.

    1. $11 Billion to $22 billion is spent on welfare to illegal aliens each year by state governments.

    2. $2.2 Billion dollars a year is spent on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens.

    3. $2.5 Billion dollars a year is spent on Medicaid for illegal aliens.

    4. $12 Billion dollars a year is spent on primary and secondary school education for children here illegally and they cannot speak a word of English!

    5. $17 Billion dollars a year is spent for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens, known as anchor babies.

    6. $3 Million Dollars a DAY is spent to incarcerate illegal aliens.

    7. 30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens.

    8. $90 Billion Dollars a year is spent on illegal aliens for Welfare & social services by the American taxpayers.

    9. $200 Billion dollars a year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens.

    10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US .

    11. During the year of 2005 there were 4 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our Southern Border also, as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from Terrorist Countries.. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroin and marijuana, crossed into the US from the Southern border.

Lady GaGa's contribution to society as others similar before her will be destroying the lives of millions of kids through her sick public life style. She can have her opinion and it will influence her young followers. A person such as she saddens me and causes me to lose my faith in humanity. I guess just wait for the next splash in the pan.

Everytime someone uses cocaine they participate in and support an industry that is responsible for the death and murder of hundreds of thousands of people and the destruction of communities the world over. EVERY TIME. Even if it is only a couple of times a year. I don't care what you put in your body but please please please STOP generating the demand that fuels an industry of such tragic destruction. Buy only domestic products or don't consume at all.

Az, I am for immigrants coming here, that's pretty much how we got started, but hey illegals is another thing. Yes, come on over but please become a citizen. Everyone should have the same rights I do, to be screwed and taxed by the government."

I agree! They all don't come here for drugs. Most of them come here to make a living. Think about it. If someone in your family is sick and you don’t have any money for them to go see a doctor. Would you sit there and watch them die? Or run somewhere you can try to help support them? It cost too much to get over there. If it was easy then trust me they would be here legally! Watch your family suffers and die slow painful death. Then tell me about it. For all of you people worried about (they are taking our money) Vote to make it easy for them to come here and we won't have this problem! Put yourself in their shoes before you open your mouth. They work 10 times harder than any American I have ever seen. who gets on a roof when its 100+ outside. Not a American! Think outside the box.

I loved and had a lot of respect for Lady Gaga when she first came out. She was fresh, creative and talented without being sleazy or whacked out. But that has definitely changed and I feel like everything she says, does and wears is now a gimmick and not genuine. Its very irresponsible on her part to admit to using cocaine all while saying she had a drug problem. If she can use in moderation, good for her, but there is nothing chic about addiction.

I like a couple of her songs. She's as compelling to watch as a train wreck. If I were a parent I wouldn't allow my child to immulate her without a ton of discussion. Sure, sweetie you can listen to the music but don't listen to her message! When she first came out & talked about not wearing pants I just said to myself that's just NASTY as a woman!!!! Nasty, nasty, nasty!! If you're on stage...that's one thing but to go around like that it's disgusting!! Looks wise-–I feel sorry for her.

Aside from the fact I would free lady Gaga of her celibasy at any instant moment, I want to say something about the immigration laws.
Do as I say, not as I do.. We fought to free ourselves from taxes, now we live in a country of taxes, The indians who were here, were not called Indians.. they had a name for themselves, all on their own, and how pompous it was for Columbus who was a complete idiot and thought he was in the West Indies, to call them that instead of learning and asking their original name of their race of people. It was slowly stolen from them, they were exploited, then stolen a little more, until they were pushed into dead lands. Am I greatful where I live today? .. Yes, but don't think I don't pay tribute, and humility, and honor to all of those who lost this land by means of brute force. Now, the people wanting to come here, ask yourself why are you coming here? Is America that much better than your own country? .. Why can't you change things and revolt in your own country the way we did to set things right? .. What's so great about America, when you got your own damn country to fix up, and make great? .. The first thing people need to do before they come here illegally is look in themselves for the answer. Is it.. come to America for a better life, or.. focus on your own country and make it great? .. Have some faith, try hard, and build your own great country rather than throwing in the towel and saying.. screw this, I'm leaving, I'm going to America which in itself, has it's own major issues already to deal with. ~

Lady Gaga is by no means a "role model" No matter what anyone says, she is a talented musician, all you need to do is actually listen to her music. She is musically trDained, and she can sell it to the people, more power to her. She does drungs, like most if not all thehollywood puppets. All I care about is that when she comes on, I'll sing along and dance.

She at least will be honest on what she dies, because at the end of it all she knows what she has done. I understand the concern of the conservative right and how they must condem such behavior but lets not forget she is a product of what celebrity has done to America, no one is to blame but ourselves.

Most of the comments here are from ignorant people who have no idea what they are typing about. Drungs are a problem, but what is a celery to do, stay home and crochet? That will not sell any albums, and none of you would be singing her songs out the car' s window if she didn't enlighten herself with " creative" substances. Any of you that has tried any drungs, (marijuana at least, has a clue as to why thus is true) Stop judging her and enjoy her very talented music, if not, then turn your media device off and. Go and actually do something about what you believe in.

Keep believing the status quo and following every direction your "government" tells you, and see where you end up.

It's this kind of bigotry and ignorance that keeps America in the past with it's outdated values and life views.

Grow up, take are of your children, stop abusing your credit cards and do something to make the world better!!

Desperately needed law???? Are you serious? Take the white hood off your head for just a second and let's have a real discussion, if you're capable of it. Two points to be made. 1) It is only when times are economically bad that we have minority and immigrant scapegoating. 2) Every economist agrees that removing illegal immigrants from the workforce would have a devastating affect to the economy. So then I ask you, what is your solution? It sure is easy to bash and complain about a "problem" but not as easy to intelligently solve it, is it?

Jerry Seinfield was right. Take out the letter 'A' at the end of 'Gaga' and you get GAG. This woman is done and I personally have lost all respect for her. I wouldn't be surprised if her record label dropped her tommorow. Pay close attention kids and take some notes. Do you think any of us would be applauded and turn the other cheeck if we admited to using cocaine or any other illegal substance? How would your boss and co-workers react? You would be fired. Don't tell me the same rules don't apply to her. She is employed just like the rest of us. Does this ignorant piece of vile care that the cocaine she's snorting (twice a year, yeah right) was smuggled into the U.S.A. and manufactured in a country where children and familys work as slaves for cocaine farmer (Drug Lords) How many innocent children lost their lives for her white lines?

Sorry but being a world famous musician isn't even in the same universe as having some desk job where you get drug tested every couple of months. A lot of musicians use drugs, when you generate that kind of money for powerful people you can do whatever you want including as much dope as you can handle as long as it doesn't interfere with performances and making money. That's the world of show business.

200 years ago the cry "give me liberty or give me death" was the talk that became a walk. Lady Gaga is no less eloquent or to the point about liberty being challenged than Thomas Paine was in his day. The debate will be over her credentials to rally people to such a cause. But the only thing that matters is what the do with the message, not the messenger. Than ks LG, you got... organs. But hang on to the piano anyway.

Wow, I can't beleive we are still arguing over useless laws that simply cost money to enforce, write and debate. ALL immigration laws are useless because the only answer is to fine the hell out of employers who hire (most knowingly) illegals. If you provide work and $$$, they will come regardless of any stupid wall, fence or other "enforcement" policy, but if you take away the $$$ they will simply have no reason to stay. Of course I can't believe out gov. doesn;t know this, so one has to wonder how serious any administration (dem or rep) is about enforcing this. Oh yeah, they did come up witha voluntary prograsm so you can check the status of your workers. Since it's voluntary, I think it's clear where the gov stands on this issue. (No, it's not just Obama: Bush, Reagan an Clinton all stood around with their thumb up their ass while everyone crossed over the borkder for the last 30 years). GO AFTER THE EMPLOYERS-DUH!!!

Those of you who want to pay your hard earned tax dollars and money to the illegal immigrants, go right ahead! We'll set up a separate fund for you to fund them! 1)Gaga is just like anyone else with an opinion, except that she makes more money agreeing with the left.

    2) So you people that oppose SB1070, what is your solution?

    A) allow anyone who can walk thru Mexico(regardless of race, religion, or nationality) to stay here anonymously?
We should just make split Mexico into another 10 states, clean it up, make it right, and then allow the rest of Central and South America to come in...oh.. wait that is currently against MExican law (any law authority arrests illegals).

    B) allow anyone in the world who gets here (regardless of race, religion, or nationality) to stay here anonymously?

I think it might get crowded, but hey, the more the merrier. BTW, what do you think the outcome of all this immigration will be.... postive or negative? The country would not be the same and another country would soon be the one to be at. But then maybe we could import the Mexican and Talban drug cartels to keep things interesting.

    C) allow just Spanish speaking people to stay here anonymously?
Ahh, this is what the illegals want, yes. They want more people like them here. Why you ask? because they do not want to join our country, culture, or language. They want to import theirs. They want our justice system, social programs, and infrastructure, but not us. They do not want to change they're countries for the better, they want to change our country for they're betterment. Hey, I personally do not believe their countries are to broke to be fixed, but they obviously do. Based on they countries current state, I would prefer to stick with our country...I mean if their countries' justice system, social programs and culture was so good that we have to allow them to import illegally.. THEN WHY DID THEY LEAVE!!!! TRUTH.

The trends of the famous using drugs and other methods is not meant as a shocker for the older crowd is it meant to shock the younger generation who like we were at one time were also shocked by the stars using drugs. The method is meant to either steer someone away from using drugs or to pull someone to use drugs based on the assumption that if they follow the same paths of the star they worship including drug use that they will achieve the same stardom and success as their favorite star. I think America needs to stand up and take away these so-called role models out of the limelight permantly. Which is more important that your child grow up in a well maintained setting where their life is a success or allow those like Gaga to continue to be allowed to entertain so that some cocaine dealer in Mexico or some heroine dealer in the Middle East can have a market in which to profit from after which the person is then put through abusive conditioning to break their personality down in order to mold the person the way some religious nut job wants them to be in order to continue to have a sustainable market for their drug product. HELLO; can we stick to the main subject.

Believe it or not, many who are here illegally DO file taxes - they get a tax ID number and file, in the hopes that it will help them show good faith in their hopes to legalize their status. And many are trying to legalize their status but haven't a route to do so. And finally, ask yourselves: did MY ancestors come here legally, or not? Are you sure? I know my Italian grandmother did (in 1909), but that my Italian grandfather apparently did not. They met and married here, worked hard, and had 11 children who then had 32 children of their own - all American citizens who have contributed significantly to our great country. I hope all of us, who are ALL in this country via immigration (except the Native Americans) remember that the story is not so simple; not so black and white.

Ok, so somebody should let little miss Gaga read the bill, because I don't see anything in it that would make someone not feel like they belonged. Read it for yourselves. It says if you are here on one of many immigration programs, be sure to have your papers on hand. Sort of like having your driver's license. If you don't you get fined. If you get in trouble with the authorities and they find out you broke the law to enter the US, you have to go home. If a town or county tries to harbor someone here under illegal pretense they are fined as well. If someone tries to sneak you around or hire you and you are here illegally then they get fined. So, I don't see the rub in there. Now if it said, police must round up every person of type X and put them in a bus and dump them in Country Y, well now that is not so nice, but it just says don't break the law. I have traveled extensively worldwide and MOST Countries required me to carry and present papers upon request under penalty of law. Not once did I ever feel "like I didn't belong". I was a GUEST in their fine country and I abided by their rules. Maybe some people should take some basic lessons in MANNERS, and what it means to be a GUEST in someone else's country no?

HH, agreed. People, that would be called a Passport and/or Visa (not a credit card). If you are a US citizen and you work in another country, you are also, by most laws in other countries, required to have paperwork that identifies you as legally authorized to do so.

I understand where you're coming from. I support the idea of this law. However, if you had a chance to watch the report with the police training video pertaining to this law specificaly, you would see there are some racial stereotypes that cops are supposed to keep an eye our for. Such as, high volume of people in one vehicle, inability or trouble speaking english, as well as looking for certain dress, and to pay attention to thier shoes. There are american citizens who carpool, some legal citizens have trouble with English and, since when does the way someone dress determine whether they are illegal? I can see how the way the law is carried out can make someone feel like they don't belong.

Google the facts people. Check youre DNA folks, you are all originally from Africa! Native Americans were First people to migrate and settle in america.

The point is not whether this country was formed by legal or illegal, the point now (2010) is that illegals are costing the U.S. citizens who pay taxes and vote, money and livelyhoods. Who do you think is paying the health bills for illegals when they go to the hospital emergency room, who is paying for the infrastructure they use, who is paying for everything they use without paying taxes? Those of us WHO DO PAY TAXES!! And each year those of us who do pay taxes, pay more and more taxes because this country is being consumed by those who choose not to enter this country legally, therefore not paying taxes. I am half American Indian. That half of my family was born in this country centuries ago when there was no such thing as legal and illegal citizens. And, the American Indians who still live on reservations today get far less than those who choose to come to this country illegally and not pay taxes. If Mexico is so awful, and it is, why aren't the people staying and fighting to make Mexico a place worth living? If Mexico is not worth fighting for, then when you come here, leave Mexico behind. Speak English!!!! Become a citizen and pay your way as every American must do. The other half of my family heritage came here from Ireland and France. They came through Ellis Island. They worked hard to make a good life in the United States. To continue to allow illegals to enter this country takes away everything they worked for. Those who come here now and work hard to become U.S. citizens believe that all it takes to become a U.S. citizen is worth the time and effort. Not becasue they feel they deserve it, but because they believe in what this country offers and what most of us (born U.S. citizens) take for granted everyday. I am all for the underdog as long as the underdog is willing stand up and do the right thing.

Native American and Mexican land? Hmmm. I guess when Spain conquered what is now Mexico, it had no natives? If you are going to use the nobility of history to back up an argument, you might want to learn it first. In fact, Mexican land had far more advanced native cultures than the natives on U.S. land did. The 10,000 years of native history that was vanquished by the Spanish when Mexico was created is somehow less important than Mexico's loss of claim for land north of the current federal border? To the natives, it was pretty much all the same thing - devastation at the hands of the European settlers that created Mexico and the U.S (and Canada). The U.S. taking land from Mexico a few decades after Mexico claimed independence was trivial in comparison to the 10,000 years of native history wiped out by both - the lives of the settlers living within the area taken over by the U.S. was little changed, and the lives of the natives continued to be destroyed in the same way.

What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand? If you are here ILLEGALLY, go home. PERIOD. No further discussion needs to take place. You are breaking the law. Why bother having laws if you aren't going to enforce them Obama? I don't care where you are from. You must obey the law. If you are breaking the law, you are breaking the law. Once you are addicted to any kind of drug, you have to stop all forever. Thinking you are in control of the situation & using only occasionally is what leads to relapses. They may be in denial of the relapse but it is just that.

Anything else done ILLEGALLY in this country is expected to be prosecuted, but a large percentage of people feel illegal immigration should be ignored and accepted? If the celebrities and politicians don't get it, and these are the people that the other classes are getting their direction from, this country is doomed to implode. Along with the social ramifications of illegal immigration in this country, if you can't stop illegal immigration, you can't stop terrorism. This country has to protect it's borders.

Not an artist, not an entertainer but a mover of mass commodified goods; in her case, the sound of sleazy dance music that rips off and oh-so-poorly imitates Madonna among so many others. There isn't an original bone in her body. And if her life isn't about making love, it's about making money – lots and lots and lots of it, so she can build an empire while families around the country struggle to put food on the table and get their kids solid education. This is the tragedy of our times: the magnification of single personalities over the nuclear family unity. Gaga: 10,000,000,000,000,000,000 Society: 0

Apparatus – There is no mention in the article about alcohol or tobacco. The only person who has made any comment about alcohol or tobacco is you. The difference between alcohol & tobacco vs cocaine is that they are legal for a person of her age (24) to consume. Are you happy that someone paid some attention to you now?

Lady GaGa is not talent. Lady GaGa is shock value entertainment. She is swiping all her cues from David Bowie, Alice Cooper and Malcolm McLaren. She isn't talented enough to steal from Arthur Brown. She cannot write music. She cannot play music. Her music is built on computers which require not a bit of musical knowledge to piece-meal together songs.

Dont tell me she's on par with actual musicians. She's a flash in the pan as are most bands/entertainers these days. Yeah, "shocker". This artist is off her rocker just like all the other ones. It's so "vogue" and so easy to speak up "politically". Is it any surprise that Lady Gaga is offering up her "wisdom" on this immigration issue. Hey Gaga, I agree with you that immigrants are part of what made this country great. But the illegal ones are dragging this country down and causing us all kinds of problems. Last time I checked, "legal" was not a race. You're either legal or you're not. Period. The Arizona Law is a good one. This issue is going to get ugly, very ugly before it settles down. We're really too late in a lot of ways of enforcing this new immigration law and that is the main problem. I'm tired of paying hard earned tax dollars to people who drag the system down. Our President is very misguided on this issue. Hopefully he's a one-term-er.

@M-Lo hahaha I enjoyed you telling somebody else to read a history book. The Europeans did not recognize the governments of the "native americans" who weren't native either, the once migrated to the americas as well, but anyway... As well as most of the tribes in the northeast believed that nobody "owned" land and that is something to share. Comparing the europeans who colonized the united states and also the europeans who lately legally migrated to the U.S. to the illegal immigrants is absurd. You are then making the case that these illegals don't recognize the United States government and therefor are so ignorant they don't recognize the world's biggest superpower? Well if they don't recognize the U.S. government why would they ask for amnesty and citizenship....

It makes me so happy to say that I have no idea who this person is, or what she does (if indeed she does anything at all).

So she only uses coke "a few times a year" – what a saint. I guess all the kids that idolize her can use it a few times a year and not get addicted. Did it become acceptable to use coke? How many times is "a few times a year"? What is the limit? I am 100% pro marijuana – but cocaine is a narcotic that kills and should be treated as ZERO TOLERANCE – she is "terrified of heroin" – why? Is crack ok to her? If not, why? It should be ok if we follow her logic. She has proven with her remarks that she is just another HOLLYWOOD LOSER. And CNN has framed her conversation as if "cocaine is cool in moderation" – stupid CNN.

M-Lo – Native Mexican?? What the hell is that? I'm guessing it's someone from Mexico, but are you trying to imply there were many Native Mexicans in current day USA before it was the USA?
Check your non-La Raza indoctrinated history books – there were extremely few Mexicans living in present day USA back then. A few hundred in California prior to 1848, and maybe a few thousand Tejanos (who, while technically 'Mexican', were really from the Canary Islands).
Stop trying to steal Native Americans culture. Truth is, there was no immigration policy when the Europeans first came. Just ask a Native what a lack of immigration control gets you.

geez. if she was an alcoholic, something we happen to accept as legal, i suppose all is ok. what a strange society we have. hundreds of thousands of people die from alcohol and tobacco addictions every year, all legal, and we seem to do so little. we just happen to make a false system of classification for drugs. mostly everything's dangerous (although pot's not exactly deadly...) i know. arrest her and imprison her and criminalize her for some drug use. it seems to be working so well at tearing the fabric of america apart this wonderful way of classifying drugs. we need to rethink everything

I love how my earlier comment was removed. HEY MORONS! What about Native Americans?? They were here legally of course and of course you mindless twits, they did not have immigration laws early on so those people were here legally! Now the laws are different! It is illegal to stay beyond your visa or to come over the board illegally! You morons who think this is a good idea that people can come over the boarder freely and work without paying taxes are 1 of 2 things! Illegal Aliens, or someone who employs them and are a TAX CHEAT CRIMINAL! Why should all of us who pay our taxes have to put up with those looking for a free ride????

Seems like everyone forgets that this is the entertainment business. I am not a fan of Lady Gaga's music but she sure makes the heads turn! Let's all remember that most everyone has done some sort of something at some time. Instead of scrutinizing every little thing, let's just enjoy....whatever it might be. She does have some cool outfits...reminds me of the 70's glam rock days!
