In the upcoming romantic drama "Eat, Pray, Love," Julia Roberts plays a woman who embarks on a journey of self-discovery. It seems the actress has also learned some life lessons of her own along the way, especially when it comes to accepting her appearance.
Though she's constantly landing a spot on those Most Beautiful People lists, 42-year-old Roberts admits she isn't always thrilled with what she sees in the mirror.
"I'm human. Sometimes I, like anybody, wake up in the morning and go, 'Really? This is the starting point?'" she said in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly.
"Haven't you ever picked up a picture of yourself from, like, five years ago, and you look at yourself and you just go, 'I had no appreciation for how lovely I looked, how fit and healthy I looked.'"
So upon further reflection, the Lancome spokesperson and mother of three has learned to see herself differently.
"Now I say, 'Now listen. Ten years from now, you're really going to think you should have appreciated yourself more,'" she told EW.
Most important, said Roberts, "I'm raising a daughter, and I really want to empower her by example."
