With the success of “Shrek Forever After,” “Toy Story 3,” and “Despicable Me,” most of the summer’s biggest blockbusters have been family films. But, things could be changing come this fall.
M. Night Shyamalan has teamed up with producer Sam Mercer to make “Devil,” a supernatural thriller about five people who get stuck in an elevator just to find out the devil is amongst them. The cast is filled almost entirely with unknown actors, with John Erick Dowdle directing. It's due to hit theaters on September 17th.
Also out in September is the latest installment of the “Resident Evil” franchise, “Resident Evil: Afterlife.”
Fans of the series will reconnect with “Alice,” played by Milla Jovovich, as she attempts to unite and lead the few who have not been infected with the Undead virus.
As the survivors make their way to Los Angeles, the City of Angels proves to be anything but angelic. Jovovich is joined on screen by Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller and recent Spanish import, Sergio Peris-Mancheta. The evil resumes on September 10th.
“Twilight” star Kristen Stewart will soon be seen in select cities in a film other than the vampire franchise that made her famous. In “Welcome to The Rileys,” Stewart plays a destitute stripper who gets a second chance at life when she bumps into an older gentleman who wants to help her.
The older man is played by “Sopranos” star, James Gandolfini. Stewart, who promoted the film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, describes the role as very personal. “Welcome to The Rileys” opens in limited release in November.
