Meryl Streep in talks to star in 'Thatcher'

Is there anything Meryl Streep can’t do?

The acclaimed actress is in talks to play former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie “Thatcher” would find Streep once again working with her "Mamma Mia!" director Phyllida Lloyd. Streep is well known for playing real life women, as her last high profile, Oscar nominated role as gourmet goddess Julia Child can attest.

God please, don't let her turn Margaret Thatcher into a cartoon character like she did with Julia Child.

Ummmm... Julia Child turned Julia Child into a cartoon character. And.... well I really have nothing else if you thought there was anything false in that performance...

Odd..... I cannot think of a role that Streep has not brought heart and passion too..... nor one in which she did not elicit empathy from an audience. How, exactly, do you think she is going to make her a heartless ogre? Rule #1 for any actor is to find a way to love the character you are playing. She is nothing but professional. If she comes of out of touch and unfeeling, maybe it is simply the character she is playing – but I bet you will see her heart there the whole time.

Judge later – – if you have fears of your idol being maligned – who best to do her "justice" than the greatest actress of our time?

    Breathe.....

I'm guessing it will be a shrill, politically motivated performance in which Streep strives to paint Margaret Thatcher as a heartless ogre. Think Josh Brolin's take on George W. Bush. Only better acted.

Thatcher was a heartless old doorwoman for the British Upper Class. She protected its interests until she started thinking she was an aristocrat herself. They got rid of her the moment she starting referring to herself as "we."

Meryl Streep makes me want to go lesbian! LOL! I'm sure this is the part that will earn her that elusive 3rd Oscar.... the 1st 2 (SOPHIE'S CHOICE & KRAMER VS. KRAMER) were approximately 30-ish yrs ago!! It's about damn time the Academy stopped taking her brilliance for granted!

More interesting than Streep taking this role is that Margaret Thatcher is going to get attention like this, though it's certainly not undue, it's still surprising coming from tasteless, ersatz liberal Hollywood. Will the portrayal of a historic and iconic conservative be dripping with disdain, like Reagan in CBS miniseries? On the other hand, maybe Thatcher's reemergence in popular culture can serve as a reminder that we can still shatter barriers without pandering to the radical progressive left wing.

I can see her doing perfectly in this role. She has done everything else perfectly. She was hilarious in It's Complicated. She is an elegant, classy lady and this will be perfect for her!!!!!

I'm sure she will do an awful job :). She will nail the Grand Dame as she has nailed every role she has ever had.
