‘Grown Ups’ outselling ‘Knight & Day’

Should Tom Cruise be worried?

There are rumors floating around that if his action film “Knight & Day” doesn’t ensure Paramount that Cruise is a bankable action star, his role in the studio's “Mission Impossible 4” could be in jeopardy.

The movie, also starring Cameron Diaz, just opened on Wednesday and so far his box office sales don't meet the definition of blockbuster.

Cruise’s feature earned only $3.8 million when it opened Variety reports, although Fox said the total is just fine for an adult action movie that opened midweek. The studio is banking on word of mouth and sneak previews to fill theaters this weekend.

But according to Fandango.com, “Grown Ups” is already outperforming Cruise’s adult caper in ticket sales (although neither of those films have attracted nearly as much interest as “Eclipse,” or for that matter, “Toy Story 3”).

“Knight” represented only 5 percent of the online retailer’s ticket sales midday Friday, while tickets for “Grown Ups” represented 12 percent of Fandango’s sales.

Tom Cruise is so "over".....Pack it in.....you are approaching 50........get real...Movie goers don't want to see you racing around on a Harley...much less trying to be glib......remember that word???

Saw Knight and Day yesterday and we thought it was better than than the last 2 Mission Impossible flicks. Haven't see Grownups yet so I can't say anything about it, but I can say that we enjoyed Knight and Day better than we expected to.

I just saw both movies. The best value for your entertainment dollar is KNIGHT & DAY. More laughs in K&D than GROWN UPS. Some amazing big screen action too. I really thought GU would be funnier with all those comics. NOT!

Every article I have read about "Knight and Day's" returns on Wed say the same thing...it is a flop...it is not doing as expected...seems everyone just wants Tom Cruise to fail...I am not the biggest fan of Tom Cruise...but why not wait a few weeks before calling the film a failure? The film will probably not make 200-300 million, but from what I have heard from people it is a good film. I would hold judgement before writing it off.

I'm not a hack plant and I loved "Knight and Day", too. And I usually don't like action films. This one had great dialogue, though. Felt like an old Grant/Hepburn movie with explosions...actually a satisfying combo.

I love these hack plants from India and elsewhere trying to build buzz about this crap-fest. Obviously paid for by the studio!
First off kids, next time stick to the script! Just type out verbatim what the Hacks sends you. That way, it just MIGHT be more believable

Just saw Knight and day with my husband today. It was a good popcorn movie and we had lots of laugh. Not too realistic, I thought, but that's not what I expect from a hollywood action movie anyways.

I was under the Impression it wasn't going to be shown in the theater till the 28th of June...One trailer showed that date. I wonder if people don't even realize that! I don't think it's because the movies doesn't have appeal, we need quality movies this summer that deliver, not try to make statements. We need a an escape from reality and what better than this incredible action filled, witty story and two great hollywood icons filling the screen with chemistry!!!
