Debbie Gibson and Tiffany to appear in Syfy filmToo bad they won’t be calling it the “Battle of the Teen Queens." THR reports that former 80s teen pop sensations Debbie Gibson and Tiffany have been cast opposite each other in a Syfy original movie. "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid" will feature Gibson as a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores and releases them into the Everglades - where they then morph into super-sized menaces - while Tiffany will portray an over-enthusiastic park ranger out to save endangered alligators. The pair, who used to battle it out on the charts, have starred in Syfy productions before, but this film marks the first time they will appear together. |

I love SyFy original movies. They are the cheesiest things going. Do you think they don't know that the movies are cheeseball? Someday they'll be featured on future versions of MST3K! What a lineup: Spring Break Shark Attack, SuperGator, Piranha, MegaShark vs. Giant Octopus. They're awesome!
I like Sci-fi (yes SCI-FI not syfy). Well some shows/movies at any rate. Why the p1ss did the name it "Syfy"? Are they that illiterate? I always like those "mini breaks", you know the one between the commerical and the show/movie. Now they suck.
Wow, they'll take anyone to be in those movies. I love Sci-fi, but the Syfy channel originals have really destroyed anything that I like about the genre. I mean, come on...it's not even worhty of the campy b-movie rating, those at least are fun to watch. I think they are coming out with a movie about geriatric zombies featuring the bum that lives under the bridge down my street.

SyFy original movies do general suck. Some of them can be entertainingly bad, though. I just wish they'd leave off on the horrible cg monsters for awhile. And the backwoods mutant rapist cannibals. I think they should challenge their writers to write a monster movie that can be shot all with practical effects. I also think it would be great if they would show old monster movies sometimes and re-runs of the old shows you just don't see now (Space:1999 comes to mind, or if they could get old Dr Who).

Yeah, the Sci-Fi (hate the new name) original (not really...) movies can be bad, sometimes it's so bad it's good to watch and laugh with it.
And some are so horrible, you ask why they even bother making it in the first place....
And don't get me started on the low-grade FXs on some of those movies...(yeesh !)

We call them stupid B's, but we love them. Reminds me of Dr. Paul Barrers saturday afternon old scary [B] movies back in the 70's and 80's.
Deborah Gibson, Deborah. She's been going by Deborah since 1993 I think. And for those of you who are incredulous, Deborah has actually had A LOT of acting gigs, including a lot of work on Broadway. Though these SyFy movies absolutely (usually) suck.
Broadway, Shmodway! She ain't nothin' to me unless she does a spread in Playboy, as Tiffany did! Can't wait 'til Britney, Jessica, Lindsey and Lady Gaga all do their turn in PB pages. Forget Paris though, she's already overexposed herself enough.

I actually watch some stuff on SyFy, but not the movies. I love Scare Tactics!!! I thought Estate of Panic was great fun, but I dont think it lasted more than a short season. I used to love Ghost Hunters until they decided to focus on the actual Ghost Hunters with the camera's, rather than looking for Ghosts. These horrendous movies keep getting made because people watch them – not because they are good, but because they are fun to laugh at? Classic. I wonder if SyFy gets the joke too...im guessing they dont.

What, anyone who's "chunky" shouldn't be on TV? No doubt that idea comes from someone who is the very model of physical perfection.
As for SyFy, they have always had a mix of what's good and what's not and that hasn't changed along with the name. There is still some entertaining fare amidst the drekier stuff. Besides, as someone already pointed out, you can start to feel a little love for them monsters at times!

uh, NKOTB is currently touring. DUH. don't you know the 80s are SOOOO in right now? i even picked up a pair of acid washed keds last weekend. ohhhyeaaaa.
Debbie kept herself up a little better than Tiffany. Tiffany is a little bit on the chunky side and looks a sort of ragged out. She shouldn't be on TV. Debbie has a nice little body on her though, it is acceptable for her to be in there.
Debbie's been busy on broadway for many years singing and dancing but I haven't heard much about Tiffany for a long time. I believe she got married and had a kid or two.
SyFy changing the spelling was an attempt to bring in the younger kids to the channel..all it did was drive the once loyal fans away. Now they have the cheap, over anmated and computer generated monsters/creatures/gators/ and what-ever happens to be the "monster" of the moment.
When they first appeared on cable, Sci-Fi fans were elated..now they ( the producers/editors-big wigs) only care about getting the "young ones" to watch and to hell with the ones who actually made them a hit.
To bad..so sad..LifeTime has better horro movies than SyFy these days..

So that's what you called it. Personally, I doubt I would have survived the shame of being caught "crushing" on them. Yeah, they were both sweeties and time has been kind to both. Love those smiles!

Sometimes I love the syfy channel, but their original movies suck, and often contain Stephen Baldwin, which is pretty much saying the same thing. But sometimes they're so bad, they're funny. Mansquito, anyone?
And yet they did a remake of Dune, which was phenomenal.
I do not watch Syfy made for tv movies because they are cinematic works of art... I watch because the acting is bad, the plots predictable, and occasionally I root for the monsters! It is pure unadulterated cheese. I also happens to usually star some throw back to my teenage years, which makes me appreciate it even more (Lorenzo Lamas anyone?). I do tune into the shows because they are worthwhile, witty, and just plain kick@ss!

No matter how you spell it, SciFi/SyFy, or whatever, these movies are TOTALLY dumb, and fun to watch, provided there is a keg chiiling somewhere to take the edge off. I plan to watch, just because when I was 15, I had a "crush" on Tiffany. But then again, back in the 80's, what pimply-faced nerd didn't?

For a while, Debbie Gibson was the voice of high school kids everywhere. She wrote and played her own music, and said what every kid was thinking. But after a lot of success, she wasn't in tune any more with her audience. Loads of talent, but not much market for her songs anymore. She's been on Broadway most of this time.
Poor SyFy. From it's glory days while showing Battlestar Galactica to this garbage...
I've watched part of the movies these two have been in. If the CIA or DOJ wants an alternative to water boarding that leaves no marks and is more effective, well, the junk called movies these two have been in would do the trick. Only the toughest radical could make it through one movie without breaking down and begging to tell them everything. Two showings woudl guarentee they either talk or would will themselves to death to escape.

It's amazing how pretty they looked back then. Now they just look like Cougars. I am sure brittney, lindsey and paris will look just as mediocre as they do now. Actually, if it wasn't for make-up paris is really a dog. Cheap talent means a bad movie.
WHat amazes me is that in this environment of cost cutting, unemployment and somewhat austere times that they seem to have a never ending budget for churning out garbage? It's like a perpetual pla-doh machine of pooh.
SyFY has gone to hell in a hand basket since they changed their programming team. It's just low-grade trash now.

it's amazing what kind of movies get made–Megashark v Giant Octopus is a classic bad movie–it's entertainment value is the badness of the movie. It's a great laugh.
Gibson was actually a better actor than Lorenzo Lamas–which isn't difficult.
Mega shark vs. Giant Octopus WAS AWESOME!!! I mean who doesn't love the scene when the shark leaps what 30,000 feet into the air and takes out an airplane.
Couldn't be better (or is that worse) than Ice Spiders. Or the rock monster that ripped off Galaxy Quest. SyFy movies aren't so much low-budget as no budget.
They lost me when they renamed themselves to stupid "SyFy". Nice to see Debbie and Tif again, though :).
They lost me when they canceled FARSCAPE. Changing the name to Siffy isn't doing anything to bring me back, either. I bet if you told a doctor you had Siffy he'd prescribe penicillin.

Part of the allure of the movies on SyFy is the bad acting and shear ridiculous nature of them. I absolutely love watching the SyFy movies because I know I'm going to get a cheezy movie with bad acting and just enjoy it for the absurdity.

What, none of you remember MST3K! They had movies so bad even Elvira wouldn't show them! And it was one of Sci-Fi (I hate the new name with a passion) Network's top rated shows! These SyFy movies are just keeping that tradition going! Thank whatever powers that be for things like Eureka, Warehouse 13, the Stargate franchise, the Galactica franchise, and their "reality" series! They ROCK!
MST3K was great as they took really bad movies and interjected needed comedy. That is exactly what the movies by DG and Tif need. Maybe an up to date MST where new people laugh and hoot at the low quality of the movie, making jokes, and showing the movies for the farce they are. Now THAT would be entertaining.
It's either that or Lifetime Channel. Ten years from now Lady Gaga will probably be doing the same thing. She would be perfect for SyFy.

First of all – half the guys ragging on Debbie and Tiffany here don't even have a girlfriend let alone get laid! 2nd – Cheezy syfy movies are a fun escape for 90mins so enjoy them for what they are. I'm a early 40's guy who loves cheezy syfy movies involving space aliens, monsters and girls. And I've seen Debbie & Tiffany's last few syfy movies. I say – Keep on going girls!

Uh, their original movies are for the most part awesome for the wrong reasons. So screw you sir.
Even the best actors are bad in SyFy movies, it's part of the appeal. they are good old fashioned over the top, over acted, out of this world science fiction. If you don't like them, don't watch them
I liked both of these young singers when they came out. Looks like Tiffany has bounced back from some bad happenings. Good luck to both of them & I hope the movie is something I can..can sink my fangs into.
