Amanda Bynes quits acting via TwitterAt the ripe old age of 24, Amanda Bynes is saying goodbye to acting. Bynes, who was just 10 when she made her name on the Nickelodeon show “All That” before getting her own series, “The Amanda Show,” made her announcement on Saturday via Twitter. "Being an actress isn't as fun as it may seem," tweeted the star, who counts Marilyn Monroe and Angelina Jolie among her idols. "If I don't love something anymore, I stop doing it. I don't love acting anymore, so I've stopped doing it."
The “Hairspray” star added, "I've never written the movies & tv shows I've been a part of. I've only acted like the characters the producers or directors wanted me to play." Bynes didn’t say what she’ll do next, but in the meantime, she’ll make her final appearance on the big screen this September in the high-school comedy, “Easy A.”

I have been hoping that she would have a new movie pretty soon. I really hope she changes her mind later on. She is an amazing actress. The writers may have created the characters, but she brought something unique to each part she played. I could not see anyone else doing her roles as well as her. Oh I love Amanda Bynes, and I'm so sorry to hear that she's leaving acting. She just has this bubbly personality that shows through her from the inside out. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED HER IN "WHAT A GIRL WANTS" with COLIN FIRTH as her dad. I think she has a natural talent for the business. She may never have won an Oscar but how many Actors and Actresses do? Doesn't mean there aren't a lot of really good one's in the business. But if it doesn't make her happy then she shouldn't do it anymore. I also said "who" when reading this, she seems pretty unknown to anyone 25 and older. However; the negative comments that most of you adults posted here is just sad, we have become such an ugly, cynical society. Yes, not smart to tweet you're quitting acting when most people don't know you, but isn't everyone that's signed up to her tweets fans? If that's the case, she was just talking to them and should not be crucified like she's GaGa in a bra flipping people off at a Yankees game! If I was her mother or publicist, we would sit down and have a very mature woman to woman talk about PR, perceptions and privelage....and then send her butt to school!

You know, she can probably go to school and get a degree in something, she has enough money to do that. If it wasn't fun for her anymore, then she shouldnt do it, and she shouldn't be made fun of because of it, i say way to go for knowing that you want a change, i'm sure there are tons of people out there that say hey, i want to work in a gas station, then 6 months later change their mind again, if she wants to do something else, she should.
It was at 2:58am in the morning when she sent those, I think the story may change when she sobers up.

1. if she wants to quit, she should do it without whining about not being able to define her characters. she's an actor, not a writer, therefore she portrays a writer's characterization. 2. i seriously doubt hollywood will blink that's she's gone. 3. she did not need plastic surgery. 4. i am going to guess that although she is going to quit acting, she'll still want the lifestyle and attention that goes with celebrity.

Every once in awhile, this girl just seems to pop off some media grabbing quotes. Isn't she the one who had some Twitter thing about black guys that black girls got ticked off about? How can you believe any of this?
Personally, I hope this turns out to be simply a haitus, with an eventual return. While some folks here think she's not very good, Ms Bynes has always had an above average talent for comedic timing, and I believe with the right role, she could be a breakout star.

I think it's funny that she had to announce she was quitting with a line that she was portraying what directors and producers who hired an actress to convey on film/screen. Isn't that what an actress does? Get paid money to portray a character that someone wrote? Don't directors direct stories and characters?

I don't know Amanda's TV stuff, but I liked her in HAIRSPRAY. I think with a good director she can produce quality work. I also think she's probably been turned off by all the hype, pressure, backstabbing, and paparazzi crap. Amanda, if this message crosses your path: "Take a long break and then reconsider. I believe you have something special to offer."
I like Amanda...my girls watched her show when they were little and I thought she was talented and funny. Then she had the show "What I like about you" which my girls and I also liked. But if she's not happy then kudos to her for wanting to do something else!
Her eyes are weirdly close together, it always creeped me out a little.

i think amanda is a good girl, we never see her in the drug and aloholic scene she isnt in the club showing her goodies, she has remained who she is and she's one of the few considering she started very young in hollywood. i think there will come a time when she will miss acting and finds the love for it again she will come back, actors, athletes always retire but come back nothing is forever case in point "brett favre" need i say more. the fact that she knows what she wants and going after it, good for her...perhaps she wants to direct produce or be behind the scenes..she will not have a normal job like us she has oportunites and im sure she has people who will show her and guide her in the direction she wants to go...she has millions she set for herself her family for life...more power to her i aint gonna hate on her..im not an insecure person!

Well, I'm not a rabid fan, but not a hater, either. What I know of her (from an occasional interview caught while flipping, etc.) is that she's grounded, with good parental influence (obviously the problem with Lohan, etc.), good values, good head on her shoulders. No pantyless crotch shots, all night partying, excessive boozing/drugs. If she parties, she keeps it under her hat, and she keeps her knees together, at least while there are paparazzi around. What I've seen of her performances is decent. No major awards in her future, but no major suckage. All the comments here about her being a talentless hack are not valid. She's middle-of-the-road fare, plenty adequate, even occasionally funny. And for those making fun of her lack of a future, I'm sure she's got other interests and things lined up, and more importantly, more money in the bank than the rest of us could ever hope to see. I'm sure she'll be fine whatever she does, and congrats to her for being classy, pragmatic, and for following her heart.
I totally agree with your comment. It's easy to like her, but it's also easy not to. She can come off as very annoying at times, and I see how it rubs people the wrong way. Her sense of humor can often times be weird, so a lot of people may not get it. She's not a superstar actress by any means, but she's definitely better than some of the people out these days.
I like her and I hope she finds something that she loves doing in the future. I don't like my job but can't afford to quit. Kudos to her for being able too.

She's so rich by now that she could live ten times her life and still be richer than all of you haters put together!! This is about her announcing to her fans that she no longer wishes to act because she does not love acting anymore. Ms. Bynes isn't one of the wastoid starlets littering the sidewalks of Hollywood. She hasn't brought bad press on herself and has behaved in a very mature manner. I also am sure has enough money in the bank to live comfortably for the rest of her life even if she never did a lick of ANY work every again.
She may not be your favorite actress, but to a lot of tween girls, she was just as important as Miley. Unfortunately, Nickelodeon didn't have the budget DIsney has to make her as big a star as she could be.
