Stanley Cup Final was most-watched game in years

The battle between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Philadelphia Flyers in game six of the Stanley Cup Finals was the most-watched NHL game in 36 years, according to NBC.

And since the Blackhawks came out of OT victorious, the game also squashed the sport’s longest running championship drought. The Chicago hockey team hadn’t won a Stanley Cup since 1961.

The win was watched by 8.28 million viewers, the most since 1974 on NBC.

I have been a hockey fan since the days of Eddie Shore – how long is that? And although my favorite team is the Boston Bruins no matter what, because Philly had defeated them in the cup series, I had to support Chicago. Their goalie is beyond fantastic! It was so well played and so fast, by the time we got to the 3rd period I was exhausted – I felt as if I had skated every stroke, taken every hit! When overtime was declared, i almost didn't watch it! But of course I did. Black Hawks soar! It was a great series, the best in years!

Chicago sports teams have an enormous fan base. Not surprised to hear of the high ratings nationwide. Alot of former Chicagoans (myself included) were thrilled to plunk down in front of the TV and watch a rare Chicago championship! Way to go Blackhawks!

I have been a huge hockey fan for many years and this was one of the most exciting finals that I seen for a long time! Although I favored the Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago was awesome! Both teams gave it their all...right down to the final minutes in OT so I congratulate both teams for a game well played!!
