'SYTYCD's' top 10 (plus one) revealedAfter a grueling week in Vegas, a multitude of "You made the show!" fake-outs, and one speeding ticket on the way to Wapakoneta, Ohio, we have our top 10 - er, 11 - on "So You Think You Can Dance." Without further ado, let's go down the list, shall we? Lauren Froderman: I wasn't sold on her when she auditioned in Phoenix. My, how one solo changes things. The judges might as well have just given her a top 10 slot at that point, the way they reacted. With Ida Saki out of the competition (more on that later), she'll have a good shot at being the top girl. Ashley Galvan: Um, have we met? The very little we've seen is good, at least. Jose Ruiz: The ten commandments of "So You Think You Can Dance" include "Thou shalt have at least one dancer without formal training." B-boy Jose is also carrying the hip-hop genre all by himself, but he's certainly shown some talent elsewhere. Whether he's another Joshua or Russell remains to be seen.
Melinda Sullivan: I know she's not everyone's favorite, but she's certainly something different, as Mia Michaels pointed out. And I've got a soft spot for the tap dancers, what can I say? Plus she's got the legendary Harold Cromer's endorsement. Still, I can't see her going too far with the voters. Alex Wong: He was pretty much predestined to be here, though he's supposedly lacking in "passion," as just about every technically-skilled, 2nd-place finishing dancer has been told since this show started. We'll see how that pans out. Cristina Santana: Another commandment: "Thou shalt have at least one ballroom dancer." Cristina fits the bill beautifully (though personally, I would have preferred Giselle Peacock). Female ballroom dancers traditionally have had a tough time breaking past the top four, though. Billy Bell: See above about Alex, except Billy has a bit more of a built-in fan base. The judges have also warned him about not quite delivering in Vegas. Robert Roldan: Um, not ringing a bell, but apparently he's the reason for the top 11. He's probably got a good portion of the young female vote sewn up too. Alexie Agdeppa: Another with a fan base from previous years. She may have beaten out Ryan (see below) just by the fact that she's auditioned so many times before. Definitely a dark horse. And she invented the all-important official hand signal for season seven, which more or less assured her spot. Adechike Torbert: Absolutely brilliant dancer, who could knock Alex and Billy out of the running for the top two - doesn't hurt that he's bursting with personality. Kent Boyd: Ladies and gentlemen, we have our front-runner. Small town guy with low self-esteem who just wants to show what he's capable of doing and then does it like nothing you've ever seen. Adam Shankman was absolutely correct when he said, "They have something to be scared of in you." All in all, a very strong top 10 (plus one). We'll have to see how they do with the "all-stars." A few pre-competition notes:
Tonight, the top 11 get to showcase their talents... which is great because I'd like to get a better idea of why Robert and Ashley made it. Until then, share your thoughts on this season's finalists on video, or in the comments below. |

What happens every year with Arielle Coker? It seems like the judges always love her and she goes straight to vegas, then it's like she just disappears! They never even show her getting cut! I absolutedly love her and she's been my favorite dancer since she first auditioned in Season 4! Hopefully she makes it next season.
Also, what's up with not having a top 20?!?! It takes the fun out of watching the 2 dancers from different styles and different backgrounds grow together! I miss rooting for my favorite couples!!
All in all, disappointed in season 7 🙁
Lopsided episode–way too much time spent on delivering the results to the contestants (though I did enjoy the Englishman-lost-in-Ohio schtick, corny as it was). I wish more time had been spent on the final solos: seeing Lauren's solo helped me understand why she was chosen. We didn't see Anthony's final solo, did we? Maybe it didn't go so well? I also hope we see him again. The editors seemed to be taking pains to make us believe that Billy Bell and Alex Wong might not make the final cut (yeah, right . . .).
Ida kind of disappointed me. She was obviously struggling with the other styles, but she should have stuck it out. Despite her struggling, she hadn't been cut yet, so perhaps her final solo would have pulled her through. Unfortunately, we won't know, and leaving when she did made it look like the judges' remarks were on the money.
I'm interpreting the choice of an extra male contestant as a sign that the men are seen as stronger, overall, but I'd like to be proven wrong.
What happened to Arielle Coker? We didn't see her get cut, did we?
I am not happy that they didn't have 20 dancers this year. They are losing out on more great dancers. This is a big disappointment. If it doesn't get any better I won't be watchong anymore. They just let me down.
I was so dissapointed last night with this top 10 excuse me top 11 crap. There were so many dancers that are missing out because of the new All-star format. I agree with the other comments, ANTHONY YOU WERE THE BEST !, and I WILL HELP DRIVE YOU THERE AS WELL!
I am very disappointed that they have reduced it to a top 11. One of the best parts of this show is watching the contestants grow with each other! Of course I will still watch, I love this show, but the entire format seems off this year. I also never realized the judges picked favorites so early on like they did. I feel bad for what I am sure were some incredible dancers that did not make it because they were not one of the lucky few to be "favorited" by the judges. I do like the top 11 though. They all look great!
So very disappointed in the format. They shoudld have kept it at 20 and bring in the past season dancers later on ...when the top ten were chosen. How they could have 6 boys and 5 girls beats me...the last young woman, cannot remember her name should be the 6th girl. As for Anthony....what happened there?....his dancing is exquisite....what an extraordinary dancer. Definitely did not like the way the delivered the news of the top ten. Boring, waste of time. I would have love to have seen more of the dancing instead of a bunch of sobbing judges.
YOUR #1 SOURCE FOR ALL THINGS JASON DERULO http://www.DeruloDaily.com COMING...
does anyone remember when they brought in brandon dumlao to take billy bell's place last season, even though everyone pretty much knew he was going to get eliminated anyway because you know the show wouldn't allow a "replacement" to beat out the rest of the top twenty. if that actually happened, it would show that the judges were wrong about who the picked for the top 20. anyways, to save face, they offered him a chance to try out again this season, which he did, and they barely showed him. I'm not sure how big his fan base is, but for those of us who were rooting for him, it would have been at least resepectful to him and us to see his jounrey this season, even if he didn't get into the top 10, which i foresaw anyway because they're obviously going to want new people on the show since they're only accepting 10...oh wait...11. *rolls eyes* i hate the fact the the judges will keep an entire group of people who they all said sucked horribly in their group performance just because those people are their personal favorites.
Soooooooooooo not fair – how can they possibly explain 5 girls and 6 guys ????????????? And, I still don't understand having less at all. It's a popular show, I'm sure it has commercial support, why not stretch it as long as they can ??? Beats me, but I'm a fan and will watch no matter what.
I will admit a guilty pleasure in watching this show. However, I was very disappionted that they feel the need to make it 5 ladies and 6 men. The last female to be advised she did not make the top 5 was good and deserved to be there as the 6th female. If they can add a 6th male, they can add a 6th female. Fair is Fair.
I was SUPER disappointed about Ryan Ramirez and Anthony Burrell...but you are right, have to have a B-Boy & Salsa dancer...I'm not sure I like the whole Top 10 (11) idea though...what's the point in bringing back All-Stars? Is it to help the other 11 grow as dancers? A little insight to that would be good...
I'll help you drive Anthony!! I would have rather seen him than either Alex or Robert!!
