Behind the Scenes on 'Showbiz Tonight': Salma Hayek's freak out

Since we're giving you a behind-the-scenes glimpse into "Showbiz Tonight," we'd like to paint a little picture of what our morning editorial meetings are like: take a bit of “The View,” mix it with “The Man Show” and a little of “The Muppets," and you've got our morning debate.

Now that you've got a mental image, let’s get right to the day’s most outrageous of topics, shall we?

There's no doubt today's biggest buzz was around the outrageous new video of Salma Hayek FREAKING OUT over a snake - and it’s all caught on tape! Salma and her “Grown Ups” co-stars Maya Rudolph and Maria Bello were doing an outdoor interview with “Extra" when an off-camera creature slithered over. Salma was so scared she literally CLIMBED ON TOP of Maya Rudolph in heels and a short skirt! Screaming!

Maya was the only one cool, calm and collected. As "Showbiz Tonight" Producer Sid Lipsey said in the meeting this morning, “You can tell Maya is a New Yorker – she was just sitting there!”  Sid makes a good point – after years of fat rats and cockroaches the size of your head – who cares a bout a little ol’ snake! Well, obviously, Salma does. We're also talking to Terry Seymour from “Extra” to give us the behind-the-scenes scoop on this truly bizarre - and frankly very funny - video.

You've heard that John McCain and MTV’s “Jersey Shore” star Snooki are totally BFF-ing it out, right? Yup - in a sneak peek of the new season of "Jersey Shore," Snooki laments the fact that she’s gotta spray tan her “fabulosity” at home because Obama had the audacity to put a tax on tanning beds. You better believe McCain jumped on the opportunity to bash Obama right along with Snooki; he tweeted, “u r right, I would never tax your tanning bed! Pres Obama’s tax/spend policy is quite The Situation but I do rec wearing sunscreen!”

We love ya, Senator, but as "Showbiz Tonight’s" Senior Broadcast Producer Aileen Martinez Carper put it this morning, “Did his daughter write that? It doesn’t sound at all like something John McCain would say – I’m just sayin’!” I’m with you, Aileen! It’s a bit too hip for a dude born in 1936.

And here’s something that honestly ticked off the entire staff of "Showbiz Tonight" in a big way. TMZ is reporting that Lindsay Lohan most likely can’t be thrown in the slammer for setting off her alcohol monitoring bracelet (it’s called a SCRAM bracelet, but if we’re going to get technical, on Lindsay it’s an anklet). TMZ says all she really has to do is post bond every time the SCRAM is set off – which basically means she pays $10,000 a pop to avoid the slammer and to keep on partying.

Are you as outraged as we are? But before we get all sorts of outraged – is it even true? As our Senior Writer Rob Melstein said this morning – he isn’t buying it! He demands the truth about this and he shall get it! We're calling in some of the top legal minds to get to the bottom of this.

Other big news on our radar today:

Will Tom Cruise star in a new “Tropic Thunder” spin-off starring his ego-maniac character Les Grossman?  Will it work? Or will it be like “MacGruber”? The "Showbiz Tonight" staff is torn.

And, it’s Katy Perry vs. Lady GaGa! An outrageous new rivalry between the two sexy mega-stars that could turn into an all-out battle!

What do you think about any of these stories? Post here and send us your Showbiz iReport videos. We’ll try to work some of your comments into the show…

Watch "Showbiz Tonight" live at 5pm today. And remember, we’re still TV’s most provocative entertainment news show seven days a week at 11pm ET/PT!

Maybe Salma wouldn't have been so afraid if she knew it was going to be on the set. She had already read the script for Dusk til Dawn and knew about the snake........

Recently there was this snake incident at the GrownUps interview lakeside with Salma Hayek and her castmates. What I don't understand is that years earlier she did that vampire movie where she held a python around her shoulders and in a bikini, danced on stage with it. It was a live snake just like the one Brittany Spears had in her videos and stage performances. How do you go from holding a giant python then screaming hysterically about a 4 foot snake? I totally second SoxandFloyd on this one. Unless, they used a body double on the set of Dusk Til Dawn for that scene. Hmm. Salma? If you are out there – clear this up for us please. And phobias are no joke, hope you are doing better.

I don't get it... how on earth was she able to handle the snake dance (the hottest dance ever) from the movie from Dusk Til Dawn?

I have the kind of reaction to seeing a snake and can't even stand to see a picture of a snake, but I thought my reaction came from nearly losing my life at 13 from a timber rattlesnake bite. Maybe not. Or maybe Salma was bitten before or somehow traumatized by a snake. I'm getting creeped out just thinking about this stuff!
