Hall & Oates joins Arizona boycott

Add Hall & Oates to the list of musicians boycotting Arizona.

The legendary duo has canceled a performance in Phoenix that was scheduled for next month because of the state's recently signed law that requires police to determine the immigration status of individuals suspected of being in the country illegally. Cypress Hill and Pitbull have also canceled Arizona tour dates, and Kanye West, Spank Rock, Tenacious D and Sonic Youth are also boycotting the state.

"In addition to our personal convictions, we are standing in solidarity with the music community in our boycott of performing in Arizona at this time,” the group said in a statement.

Since they were supposed to perform following a Diamondbacks game on July 2, the duo added, “We would like to emphasize that this has nothing to do with the management of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have been professional and cooperative throughout our dealings with them. This is our response to a very specific action of the state."

    1) so what.
    2) why hurt the fans because you dislike the legislature's decisions?
    3) who cares what artists think anyway?
    4) go to AZ and see what the illegals do – pay the price, then avoid wanting to control them and punish them for their crimes.
    5) Hall and Oats are still alive?

Go AZ! I've got no problem boycotting these washed up bands! It takes living in AZ to know the whole situation and if you are unfortuate enough to know and see whats going on there, You all would be singing a different tune! Its about time we put our foot down and fight back against the crimes of illegals! I want all you "I love Illegals" to get hit by an illegal and get put in the hospital and see how much fun that is!! Good luck finding the person and have fun paying for everything yourself!

I wish everyone who is boycotting AZ had to come and live here and have their "rights" taken away by these illegals. I had the right to leave my locked truck parked in my driveway. They stole it, took it across the border, transported more illegals with it and then left it trashed out in the desert. What gives them the "right" to do that?

How about all the tree sitting hippies just invite all the illegals to stay at their house. I'm sure Hall & Oates both have big enough houses and money to support a few hundred under the 20 illegals to a bedroom that they're used to.

Jamie, if you are pure European white, you are welcome to retire in Arizona. Otherwise while we appreciate your support, we prefer you stay where you're at. We don't need any other immigrants. You should do the same in Canada. We are winning this battle and we will finally have a USA with pure race.

We need similar law in Florida, our state is being invaded by Cubans and Haitians. Help support Fair.
Let's re-patriot all the Cubans in Florida back to Cuba. Arizona's law should be implemented in Florida and must be amended with a plan to send all the Cubans back to their homeland Cuba. Florida has become a third world country because of the Cubans invasion and Haitians anchor babies. Let's send them all back and stop the fleecing of America. Except for European whites, all immigration to the USA should be totally stopped. As a proud supporter of FAIR, my hat is off to you. Good start in Arizona FAIR, now it’s time to move to Florida. The day we start shipping back the Cubans from Florida is the day we have started to take back our country.
Thanks FAIR, thanks the Republican Party and thanks my tea party, we love you!

In the words of our hero, Tom Tancredo, “Miami is like a third world country.”

Thanks SJ this is a start. But you should really join us in our efforts to pass immigration laws that will only allow Eurpoean whites into our country. We need to deport all immigrants, legal and illegal.

For me, the issue here is not about the immigration status of a person so much as it is about how a law enforcement official is supposed to determine it without violating a person's 4th amendment right. I believe the first US citizen asked for papers based on what they look like or how they speak should/will create a lawsuit to put an end to this nonsense.

ROFLMAO. Like I care what some washed up has-beens think, oh wait do they actually think? The obvious answer is no, they simply pick something to be "en vogue" and run with it. Hollyweird and the music industry needs to sit down, shut up and do what they do best, nothing.
And while I'm on the subject of illegals, they lost ANY and ALL support from me when they marched/protested in my country carrying the flag of Mexico.
Protest in my country you carry an American flag afterall you came here to better your life, supposedly. Carry the flag of Mexico to protest in your own damn country, maybe you'd make headway in improving your own country if you stayed there and fought for it.

Who give a "rats behind" if Hall and Oates boycotts the State of Arizona except for the fact that they hurt their fellow Americans. Why don't you boycott loving folks boycott Mexico instead whose policy is to imprison those that come to their country illegally from Central and South America; a double standard that none of you acknowledge or for that matter, whine about! The Legislature of Arizona has every right to protect their citizens and their border with Mexico. The law was changed so that law enforcement agencies cannot ask for papers or status unless some other crime has been committed; this is common sense not profiling as most of you idiots would want us to believe. All you celebrities in Hollywood, expecially those in Malibu complained bitterly about your beaches being private property and that people trespass everyday, but they'll be the first to ridicule the Arizona Legislature about protecting and securing it's border with Mexico. To all of those out there that ridicule a fellow American for trying to protect themselves and their families; you need to walk in their shoes a mile before you open your ignorant mouths!

Illegal immigrants are making a change in the job market and are taking jobs. I work in the mental health field and can't get a job in an agency because I'm not bilingual. It's certainly changing my ability to get work. And with the current unemployment situation, people will take jobs that once were considered menial. I work in an office where the cleaning crew literally couldn't understand me when I said "don't come in, I'm still working." Thankfully, the owners saw the light and they don't work there anymore. And I'm sick of other people misunderstanding the law – whatever became of "mind your own business."

After you have lived in AZ and experienced the following, THEN you can start judging and boycotting!

*Property values tanking because the neighborhood is taken-over by illegals who paint their homes neon blue and green and allow their infants to play outside in their diapers and barefeet.
*Stolen license plates and vehicles (and anything else left outside)
*Uninsured motorists who take off after the accident (on foot, driving those stolen vehicles)
*Billboards on every corner in Spanish
*8 out of 10 radio stations in Spanish
*No one at a drive-thru speaks English
*Every note from school and every event has to be in both English and Spanish
*Wonderful after school programs for low-income familes who's second language is English (but non for English speaking families)
*Over-crowded ER's full of illegals who cannot be denied services
*Human Trafficking (and the deaths assoc.)
*Drug & Related Crimes (Especially for residents living near the border who have to protect their land and crops/livestock)
*The billions of dollars sent back to Mexico to support their families which weakens the economy as a whole (not just in AZ)
*Jobs given to illegals who are willing to accept below minimum wage because the minimum wage laws cannot be enforced on them
*The drain on state and federal funds for the multiple children born of the illegal immigrants (WIC, Food Stamps, HUD housing)

Not to mention the fact that illegals are more prone to commit other crimes to protect their illegal status. If you want to live in our country, the more the merrier.. but please do it the right way and help support the country you are so desperate to make your home.

one thing has been bothering me in this whole 'illegal' immigration debate...when people say that illegal immigrants took their job... did they take your job? or did your employer who cares nothing about you and your well being...or the laws that govern hiring people...decide that he wanted to pay someone under the table so he did not have to pay the government? I have heard of employers that have 3-4 subj with the same ss#. Dont be mad at illegals for taking your job...someone had to give it to them.
Something has to be done about the lack of employment opportunities available. but it is not all about illegal immigrants. Look how many companies take their business oversea. They pay someone 50.00 a week to make a 2.00 product..sell it to us here for 20.00 and when we need customer support we have to talk to someone in india that gets paid 200.00 a month. (which puts them in the middle class)..and us in the lower class...and yet the government gives these companies tax breaks ...it is easier for a person coming from another country to start a business than a person born in america. what can we do?

I agree with your regarding the employers, which we DO have sanctions here in Arizona against businesses that do just that (which, BTW, the Federal Government is now challenging, although that's one of the "fixes" they cite will change the illegal situation), however, we DO need more enforcement of that law and better ways to catch employers. I don't hold with that crap that illegals take jobs away that Americans won't do...that really makes illegals sound like they are just plain stupid, which they aren't. Most of us just really want them to follow the rules, apply legally, so they don't get taken advantage of, and respect their new lives in America.

Does the term"illegal" mean anything anymore? While I agree that people are trying to get out of bad situations, does that mean that they don't have to apply for entry here? Every other country has to apply to enter another country. Tell me what the real difference is... The main problem with trying to get away from the cartels–I don't know if anyone has noticed but they seem to be following them here and we are doing nothing. If I have to prove my citizenship, I will be proud to do so. I also expect my country to uphold its own laws.

In the 1960s Cubans came here by the boatloads to escape Castro and were welcomed with open arms and granted Political assylum. The Mexicans are coming here for about the same reasons! They are getting murdered daily in their country by drug cartels and have no money, they just want a better way of life! And the 11 million of them would probably gladly pay taxes if they were granted citizenship! Just think what a boon to the economy that would be if suddently there was 11 million more taxpayers in this country! I think if they are good people and workers and have no police record, let them stay! If not, deport them!

AZ cannot grant that. Only the federal Gov. can. The AZ law is almost a mirror of the federal government's Law. If you are going to boycott Az because of this law you better stop concerts in the US. I am all for reform. Until The federal government stop screaming "Yes we can" and actually do it, Az has the right to push the matter. Also you all know that the police have to A: be stopping someone in the pursuit of a crime and only then B: if the have reasonable cause.

The Cubans were granted political asylum because the majority of the one's leaving were facing prison and torture. Many of the people coming from Mexico are not facing any of those things....the majority are coming across for jobs, which don't exist in their country, not because the government is imprisoning or killing them. The drug cartels don't mess with the ordinary people, unless they get in their way, so they cannot claim that either. They are not endangered, they are impoverished. So are many Americans (which includes LEGAL IMMIGRANTS). The reason ALL nations have laws about immigration is to avoid using all of their resources on EVERYONE wanting to come into their country. We have our laws for a reason. I agree that something must be done, but continually opening our arms for EVERYONE to come here ILLEGALLY is NOT the answer.

This is what I know...we have laws. When said laws are violated, consequences should follow. Its a very elementary concept that begins when we tell our wee ones that the stove is too hot to detention for skipped classes to Joran VanderSloot murdering a Peruvian...Consequences. Its something we have gone soft on as a nation in dealing with foreign affairs and its something that is desperately needed when farmers and others are losing their lives defending land/families that are theirs. I applaud AZ for saying "enough is enough" and doing something about it. I will plan my vacations there, put my money there and do what I can to support something that is creating safer environments for our children and family. I am HAPPY to welcome anyone that follows the process, applies for entry, comes to the States legally...whatever your nationality. We are a nation that welcomes readily and forgives easy these days....how soon we forget.

It is interesting to see who support criminal aliens, illegal immigration and don't respect the safety & security needs of AZ citizens. We now know who will give give comfort and support to these felons, so we can reverse-boycott you. Since it is unlikely you will ever change your behavior and stop supporting this federal crime, the reverse-boycott should be permanent. This is why the rest of the world has such a bad view of the US. Most of these comments about illegal immigrants are stupid and bigoted like the people who write them. Your forefathers were all ILLEGAL at one time...oh yeah but the killed all the native Americans so they could make themselves legal and I guess that's okay huh?. You people need to have some compassion...and oh yeah H&O you and every other musician who are staying away from AZ rock.

Aww, did you feel like picking fruit and scrubbing toilets?

I don't recall reading about the Pilgrims having their "papers" or visas when they came to the U.S. nor did any of the other europeans that sailed over and took land that was already inhabited by the native americans. In case you didn't know, all of the southwestern U.S. used to be Mexico until a greedy President Polk decided to take it. The government will always have a blind eye toward illegal immigration because corporate America would scream bloody murder if they had to pay real wages and benefits to American workers, who don't actually want menial jobs anyway. Trust me, you want illegals picking your produce and working in sweat shops. If those jobs went to Americans, the prices you'd have to pay for anything in this country would go sky high. That's why nothing will ever be done about it.

Maybe the business that fired you shouldn't be hiring illegal immigrants.

Maybe they should become a victim of an illegal. They stole my social security number and guess what they didn't get to deal with the IRS, I did. An illegal broke into my sisters house and stole from a single working mother. We are the land of the free, but we as Americans shouldn't have our freedom taken away because they came here illegally. I say who cares about Hall and Oats, Arizona is just backing an old federal law that others are afraid to back and if Hall and Oats doesn't beleive in Americans rights Arizona doesn't want them!

I am all for legalizing all illegal immigrants. Any other country you go to wouldn't allow what goes on here. They'd demand you have a visa in hand and you be legal so why should the USA be any different and why should our standards be any different? The thing is, for years now, people come into the USA and can use fake ID's to get a dead man's social security number, then they go and apply in different states for Government assistance. My husband knows of a man that gets Government assistance in two cities at the same time, his wife too and then he works off a name and social security number that isn't his. Alot of these people do not want to be legal because then, they will not be able to get away with doing exactly what my husband says this man does. He is from Mexico, his wife is too and works where my husband does so my husband sees alot of what goes on. I don't believe it's being racists to require them to become legal. I am part Syrian and American Indian. I love all nationalities and I don't wish for people to be kicked out of the country, I just wish everything to be made fair, force them become legal, give them the resource, give them a set time limit, show them how. Then if they refuse, then make them go home.
