Sheryl Crow adopts a son

Sheryl Crow took to her official website to tell fans about the newest addition to her family.

“I have some exciting news to share with you guys,” she wrote. “Wyatt has a new little brother.”

Crow, 48, recently adopted Levi James, who was born on April 30 in Mississippi. The adoption had been underway for about a year, Crow's publicist said. The singer's oldest son Wyatt, 3, was adopted in 2007.

“Just wanted you all to be the first to hear the good news,” Crow added on her site.

She also plans to take Levi and Wyatt on the road with her starting June 11, and little Levi will be along for the ride during the first five dates of Lilith Fair, her publicist added.

The world needs more people willing to take on the awsome responsibility of caring for children who have no parents. I do not understand all this hate-speak being banterered around by some folks on this blog. God bless Sheryl and ALL the selfless, loving parents who have the means to make a difference in someone's life and chose to do so.

Sad comments from people who haven't been there. Adopted a son when in my 20s, then my partner (that apparently oh-so-necessary father figure) had the misfortune to die in a car accident. Still managed to raise a pretty healthy, well-adjusted man and without a father. Wow, who knew? Single parents, whether by choice or by fate, have been raising children since the beginning of time – I always told him (he's 50 now) that he didn't grow under my heart, he grew in it.

For those who think single parents should not be able to adopt I totally disagree. Just because you haven't found a partner should not mean you should be penalized. Children should not have to stay in foster care for eternity just because there aren't enough couples to adopt. Most couples want to adopt only babies....no wonder older children have self esteem problems ...just because they're older ...noone wants. In my opinion 1 good parent is better than a couple who argue all the time or no parent at all because noone wants you!! I congratulate Sheryl Crow for her decision to adopt not 1 but 2!

You know this touched a nerve - this whole thing about "fathers" is horse manure. So many of them take off and leave their wives and kids and take up with some bimbo and then don't want the trouble of dealing with their kids any longer. I ended up raising my two alone and they are awesome, thank you very much. Intelligent, caring, contributing members of society who have grown up to do wonderful things with their lives. I wonder if they would have turned out as great if that loser that fathered them had stuck around. Considering how his poor step children turned out, I think mine got the best end of the deal. So, you go Sheryl. I'm sure your kids will have a great and happy life and will be a source of pride and joy to you for the rest of your days.

Dear Sheryl Crowe, if you are reading these: keep your own counsel and follow your heart - your boys will grown strong and true, and you will know a lifetime of love. There's no time for the haters. Love your life, love yourself, love your boys. "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make..." Best wishes, from a mom of 3 in PA

Obviously babies from either the US or other countries are virtually "for sale" to celebreties, either single ones or like bradagelina living in sin. While those without star status need to jump through millions of hoops and wait many years just in the hope of trying to give a baby a good home. This makes me sick. At least Cheryl is straight and this is not another case of letting babies go to homes with two mommies or two daddies. Oh sure those kids will grow up normal, I DOUBT IT ! please give me a break...

Now it seems to be the in thing to adopt as a single parent and most of these adoptions seem to be boys, doesn't anyone realize the importance of a father in a boys life anymore. Both boys and girls are all better off with both parents and anyone who has children and been through a divorce or death of spouse will tell you that the children need both parents unless one of the parents is useless.

8 and 9 year old have so much damage done to them from being abandoned and shipped from foster home to foster home that it takes years to undo that damage. Some people are not equipped to handle that type of child.

You have your Clapton facts wrong. Clapton's dead son was mothered by a 'girlfriend' who he was not living with. In fact, after the boy died, he fathered another child with another 'girlfriend' before Sheryl Crow gave him a swing. Clapton has a broad in every port and couldn't possibly be a faithful man. Granted, a woman rock star may not be the easiest woman to make happy but don't falsely blame her for Clapton. He's a rock star too and will have 20 year old women begging him for it till he's rolling around in a wheelchair.

It's been around forever-long before the media reported on stars adopting??? Are people that thick??

Bizarre is true. People who rail about single women raising kids have a severe lack of knowledge about life. Single women have always raised kids. Consider the wives of widow's or the lives of children whose father has abandoned the family. Happens ALL the time. It's almost always the mother who remains to raise the children regardless of how they were left alone without male support. There is already too much narrow minded bigotry about women and their choices to even start criticizing their adopting parentless children.

Ok, a few days ago, eveybody was coming down on John and Kelly Travolta for having a baby at they're age (they will be so old! when the kid is graduating high school.) And Sheryl is 48 and adopts, but you people now are complaining because there is no father is the picture?, it's a bad thing? Was the birth mother married? was there a father in that picture? or was she going to be on Welfare to raise this child? I was raised by a single mom, other than just having the 1 income, no big deal. AND really 10 years to wait to adopt? the only time I hear of any couple waiting, pass the required time of about 6mo to a year (paper work, being checked out, etc) is when the couple insist on a WHITE, BLOND, BLUE EYED, COMES FROM A GOOD CHRISTAIN FAMILY {ON BOTH SIDES} you know, when the cheerleader does it once with the captain of the football team and OOPs? Give me a break.... Let whoever wants to adopt a child and give it a good loving (mom and dad, mom and mom, dad and dad or a single) home, from the states or over seas, LET THEM. Leave them alone, you don't have to raise the kid, why do you care where they are from or how many parents there are? And as for a FAD thing, Joan Crawford to Cruise and Kidman, LONG running fad people.

Some good sober married young couples adopt and then get divorced later. Then the kid ends up in a single parent home anyway. I know two instances of that happening locally. And just maybe, some good sober married young couples are too picky about what color or gender their choice might be. Good sober married young couples can go right down to the state run shelters and find children there this morning. But do they??

Yeah, it seems to be in the "IN THING" for Hollywood, adopting kids is a new FAD for all these people like everyone wants to be like those tools Brad and Angelina who I have no use for, she only does her "causes " to make herself look good and Brad at this point is her lap dog, but I will give Sheryl credit just like Sandra, they have both adopted AMERICAN children which is fantastic as there are so many unwanted children in this country, but I guess Angelina figures she won't get much press if she adopts a child from Iron Mtn MI as to Africa and I predict that she will either calve out some more or go on a global hunt for more and the press that follows it. I was appalled when I found out how much pics of the twins went for, disgusting, millions of dollars for just two kids no different than any others??? So maybe now Sandra and Sheryl will start their own ADOPT AMERICA POLICY!!

Fad? Ok, I guess Joan Crawford started the fad? she adopted 2, a boy and a girl. She was unmarried at the time of adoption. There have been allot of "hollywood types" who have adopted over the years, this is nothing new. It isn't a fad, women who have busy careers, they don't get married and after they hit 40, having childred can be iffy, for both the mother and the child. The women deceide they want children, they are older, maybe ready to slow down a bit and want kids.

I am really tired of people insulting Brad and Angelina for adopting children from outside the States or for adopting at all. Giving any child a home is great, for the child and for the family. Shame on the critics for thinking they have any idea about whether or not these people adopted for the right reasons and are giving these kids a good home. Are you adopting any children from anywhere?

As far as selling the pictures of the twins, they donated the money for charity, and why not? Money was going to be made from the pictures and it might as well go for a good cause. If you people did half as much for others and for worthy causes as Brad and Angelina, maybe whatever you had to say would be worth listening to. Otherwise, you are just rude, crude and nasty.

yeah Joan Crawford also horribly abused her two children. Call me mean or whatever, but adoption to me is children in the foster care system who need a home. Not having a teen mom or down on their luck family turn their newborn over to you and only have 30 days to figure out if its the right thing for them. The US gives families 12-18 months to get the help and support they need before their parental rights are terminated.

Angelina and Brad sold pictures of their twins for millions but ALL the money was donated to charity. As for adopting kids from other countries....it's great to adopt kids from the US, but have you ever heard of the deplorable conditions of orphanages in 3rd world countries? The kids are kept in their cribs for hours on end and are malnourished. I think it's great that she has adopted children from around the world. Orphans from the US are educated, clothed, fed, and many times put in foster homes. I'm not saying that's a good situation because it's not. I would love for all orphans to have homes. But those in other countries are treated much worse than here in the US. Angelina has traveled around the world and seen these conditions. That's why she chose to adopt from 3rd world countries.

It is MUCH better to be raised in a home with just one parent who is loving, caring, and generous, than to be raised in a home with two parents who aren't or a home with 2 parents where only 1 is loving, caring, and generous! Adopting a child is one of the LEAST selfish acts that a person can commit to, and I am so happy for the children who are adopted into loving homes, no matter the number or gender of parents in it! All children are a Blessing; Biological children are welcome children of the heart, Adopted children are chosen children of the heart.

I think Lance dumped Sheryl...just as she was battling breast cancer. He's a drug-using egomaniac creep anyway. I don't know why she even bothered with him in the first place.

And btw, Crow has NO difficulties selling CDs on the strength of her own talent. She doesn't need to hookup with some guy to sell records.

i wish her and the children well.

what puzzles me is why did she adopt? seems like somewhere adoption has become the star thing to do. i think it's a wonderful thing to do if done for the right reasons.

but it loks like every star is adopting because it's the "IN" thing to do. what happens to the child when it's no longer the "IN" thing, send them back?

What? Babies aren't like shoes – you can't return them!

    • Seriously?

she's 48, it's a bit late to be having kids, and she did a wonderful thing. people who want children don't want to give them back, I highly doubt she committed to 18+ years of parenting, love and challenges to be in. Maybe you would do something like that, if you thought to ask it

She probably choose adoption because of her cancer scare.

If the adoption has been 'underway for about a year', does this mean it was a planned pregnancy for the purpose of adoption? It's sad that it takes non-celebrities years and years to adopt.

No it doesn't mean it's a planned pregnancy. You apply, update home study, submitted portfolios and then wait for a birth parent to choose you. The adoption of my first child took around a year from start (beginning paperwork) to the time we took him home from hospital.

I meant to say occured. and I must clarify the time line a bit. the paperwork usually takes about six months ( at least that was the case with each of my adoptions) then you wait to be chosen by a birth mom.

Thanks to people like you this baby has a loving home. It does not make any difference the color of skin. All children need love and care. A roof over their heads and someone that will love them no matter what. It takes special people to do this. God is smiling down on you and your new family. Know matter who you are you should be happy doing what you love. I have 4 children myself and they range from 15 to 22. I think in this world today that there is so much hate that people don't sit back and look at the real picture. Its nice seeing people adopt when there are so many children that need a home. If you choose to adopt instead of having your own children or if because you can't have any that is great that you are giving a little person a place to belong. Thanks to all who adopt no matter where the kids come from.

Way to go, Sheryl! I congratulate you for your decision to adopt a second child! Many blessings! I am also a single adoptive mom of two children, and it was the best thing I ever did. I really don't understand why people admire Lance for his "achievements". It is not what you do for yourself that makes you great but what you do others. Glad you are not together with this self-glorifying ego manic. You deserve a much better man in your life, Sheryl, and you will find one.

Congratulations Sheryl, wish you all the joy & happiness – you deserve it! You are beautiful and talented and so much love to give, I don't what you saw in Lance Armstrong – he is just full of it and one selfish person. Glad you moved on. All the best to you and your two boys!!
