Clooney's girlfriend has slight Tweet-tastrophe

Ah, La Dolce Tweeta!

Italian model/actress Elisabetta Canalis - a.k.a. George Clooney's girlfriend - has found herself in hot water over claims that she insulted Jennifer Aniston on Twitter. The offending remark? That ragged rocker Iggy Pop looks like Jennifer Aniston.

An upset Canalis, however, said it was all a misunderstanding. "I JUST READ ON GOOGLE That I TWEETED something bad about J Aniston, let me be clear, it's a complete LIE, I would never do that!!" she tweeted on Tuesday.

The truth, Canalis said, is that on Monday she accidentally re-tweeted someone else's remark written in Italian about the resemblance.

After learning that the comment was attributed to her and after cooking fish filets and coconut rice (as she mentions on Twitter) - Canalis went back online to clear the air, explaining that she was new to tweeting and was not sure what "retweet" meant. Later, she added, "Unbelievable. Try to think if I would have really said that."

Clearly, Canalis wants to make it known that she has no problems with Aniston. Inviting her for a week-long getaway to Clooney's Lake Como villa certainly couldn't hurt.

    I agree with Steve.
    I DON'T CRE EITHER!
    Don't care so there!
Now lets see how many more idiots get bent out of shape by the idea of someone who doesn't care still caring enough to say that he does not care. In any case, I dont.care if nobody gets upset by the idea that I don't care, or do I? I'm confused! Does anyone care bout that?
What if Steve is confused too? Does nobody care bout Steve? What if all of your nasty uncaring responses to his comment pushed this sensitive and perhaps confused person over the edge? does anyone even care? why is the world so full of cruelty?
And what is the true meaning of life?
Come to think of it it hurts too much to care, so I dont.

So she retweeted but she didn't tweet. Is there a difference? It is still offensive...you should stick to your day job being GC's arm candy and leave the real actress/model alone. She has more class (no tatoos) and beauty than you hope to have.

Exactly, there is no difference between tweeting or retweeting something that is offensive either way. If George would stop thinking with his small head and start using his big head maybe he could find a decent, talented, attractive person to settle down with.

She must be dumber than a bag of hammers. It's obvious that she's lying, since she has been retweeting things since she first started using Twitter. And no, it was not a planned publicity stunt, since a real apology would have been made if that were the case. She tried to get some publicity out of it but is too arrogant and stupid to even do that well. As it stands now, everyone knows she intentionally retweeted the comment and is now lying about it. She has even tried to blame Twitter. She's done everything except take responsibility.

This is not the "ME" generation, it's the "LOOK AT ME" generation. When did it become reasonable or valuable or critical that someone's every mood and move be published for the world, or their personal world, to know? Tweeting is ridiculous. Put down the electronic device and start connecting with people on a personal, real way...I guess that would have to include me, as well, since I felt compelled to share my reaction/opinion in this comment streem. As the kids used to say, MY BAD or in grown-up speak, pardon me.

I find it interesting that normal, everyday people, with normal, everyday lives would find it so interesting to watch the lives of people who are just caricatures of those that came before them. How long have the masses been watching celebs lives obsessively just to get the tiniest info about who they are sleeping with, or what restaurant they ate at with whom, or who did they insult, but oh not really, someone else insulted her. They have been doing it at least since the late '20s. Why? Because it interests them to watch others make bad relationship choices and constantly relapse? No, because something is lacking within their lives, within themselves. It can only be filled by living vicariously through the lives of others. Who better than those society considers beautiful, rich, blessed with talent. Everyone screaming your name, wanting to be near you, just wanting you to notice them. The people here that have gotten so riled up because some have posted negative comments about the need for constant celebrity reportage have been insulted. By tearing down their personal heroes, you tear them down. I say all that to say that I agree with those who find this article to be drivel. I occasionally read this section just to put a story to the sometimes strange taglines CNN uses. In this case it shows me that nothing will ever really change about this sort of thing. There are many people all over the world with empty lives to fill, without celebrities these people would have no one to live through. That would be painful to see I'm sure.

Once again, another one of those idiots coming by to say "who cares?" and act as if they're some source of wisdom to the masses...

Let me start off with this. You don't represent the people who read this article, and you certainly care enough to the extent that you would even have to justify and/or validate your position on a forum. If you truly didn't care, you would not need to announce it to the world just as this person's tweet was shown to the world. Maybe you should hold your tongue (in this case hold your fingers) before you decide to write your comment in a forum in which you claim to NOT CARE about.

It's the marquee section for a reason. Of course someone of your caliber of intelligence probably doesn't get that... but it was worth a shot.

"let's be real", I think YOU are missing the point. Betty (and others) are posting to let you and the other snippy, trolling internet sludge out there know that she DOES care! Not about the tweet controversy, per se, but about the fact that everyone ELSE cares about the tweet! It's an alarming trend that, these days, a mis-tweet is considered newsworthy. (Yes, even on the Marquee Blog.) Betty (and others) are simply pointing out their disgust with such a phenomenon! The phenomenon itself is certainly worth commenting on.

Hopefully someone with YOUR caliber of intelligence gets that. P.S. I had to fight fire with fire, but YOUR condescending comments are indicative of other, more pervasive issues in your life.

      June 3, 2010 at 4:35 pm | Report abuse |
    • let's be real

TVHipster, that wasn't my point. My point is that if you TRULY DIDN'T CARE about something you wouldn't give it the time of day. So, with that said, why would you bother telling the world you don't care or that you believe this is a non-issue? Sounds like someone is crying for attention or validation. If you think I'm trolling you obviously haven't read my responses well enough.

Comments4u2, you apparently have enough time on your hands to post a worthless response to a worthless diatribe about a worthless other post. It's all based on opinions, really. I didn't expect you to agree with me. I believe in the phrase "agree to disagree."

Sounds like you do Steve – since you read this article and then commented.

Craig, you're the d-bag. Where did anyone call Steve a loser? We simply stated that if he truly didn't care he shouldn't even comment. Perhaps you should rethink your commenting before coming out and bashing each person for something he/she didn't say.

What's wrong, Craig? School's out and you're staying at home calling other people losers? Don't displace the bullying you suffered in school on people who are more focused on news (or non-news) on CNN than your pathetic cry for attention. Isn't your favorite show on right now on Nickelodeon?

This back and forth about Steve and our own interaction is so much better than the article itself. I think we all truly like to read the comments more than any of these articles.

Why do you have to be so mean to me?? You don't even know me.

Comments cause a buzz because once an idiot says something off-base about other commenters, all the back and forth action commences. It happens when people get annoyed, irritated, or just feel like making their statements known. Most people won't even comment... they'll just read the article and move on. It's always those who just want to leave some love for the article or just want to stir up the pot who comment.

That last "Craig" is either Craig being sarcastic or a poser... hmm... oh yeah, back to the tweeting issue...
