'Idol's' Crystal Bowersox and boyfriend splitNot only did Crystal “MamaSox” Bowersox lose the "American Idol" title, she also lost her beau. The runner-up revealed during an interview on “Idol” host Ryan Seacrest’s radio program that she and her boyfriend, “Big Tony,” broke up the day of the season’s final performance show. “He went home,” Bowersox said. “He wasn't cool with the lifestyle." Throughout the season, “Big Tony” was spotted in the audience cheering MamaSox on to victory, and she had even hinted a time or two that she wouldn’t mind making their relationship more permanent. But the singer told Seacrest and judge Kara DioGuardi, who accompanied her on the radio show, that there was no animosity between her and her ex. She said she saddened that they broke up on the day she took the stage in her last attempt to win. Rather than letting it get her down, the single mother said, she used the experience to help inspire her in achieving the music career she has long wanted. "He's a small-town guy and that's fine,” Bowersox said. “I'm a small-town girl, but I want this. I want this more than anything, this career, this lifestyle. I didn't think he was up for it ... he didn't think he was up for it." |

Crystal is very very talented and I like her style. I have not looked forward the the cd's of contestants in the past, but (like what Ellen Degeneres said as well) Crystal's cd I am looking forward to purchasing. I wish them all success, but I agree with the folks who say that of the final two, she is the one who can look forward to an exceptional career.
Chrystal is not only the best singer writer that has ever been on Idol she is the best female singer writer (living or dead)that I have ever heard( Farmers Daughter and Holy Toledo) are the most heart grabbing songs I have ever heard I get chills just listening to these 2 songs she wrote and sings.Most of the country have not had a chance to hear her sing the songs she wrote herself when they do get that chance with her first album there will be no doubt who is the best female artist in America today.
This should not be about "who" deserved to win. That implies that either Lee or Crystal may have been UN-deserving! Lee did get first place and i feel he is very deserving of the win, but if it would have been Crystal she would be deserving as well. The placement doesn't even count, really.....first or second place they will both go very far in their careers. So i say congrats to them both!
In a season that I found to be rather lackluster I have this to say.
I thought Casey was better than Lee and I thought FOR SURE Crystal would win.

Man, it seems like (except for Carrie) all of the girls that won it, went to the same buffet. Kelly is still the best singer but i was like, who is that??? she looked like ms. piggy. I had a crush on her once. I dont have that much crush to muster anymore. Taylor hicks, wasnt he the one that sang the Michael McDonald song for Mr. McDonald. What a joke he was. he was SO much better than Daughtry, right. Crystal was more talented but she did get annoying, but Lee, I wish you the best, but I hope you have the money to buy your own albums, because I dont need another kareoke singer. Ruben and "Baby's Mama" singer would have been good, but "Baby's Mama?" SERIOUSLY AS A SONG? C'mon Man? Kris Allen seemed like he won a contest at his all white school as the best singer and he made it as a special guest. AI winner he is not. Lambert was a waste of time. Hitting high notes doesnt mean you can sing, Lambert and Sioban (she was the worst. Didi, you are great with many talents. I wish you all of the best.
Crystal will ultimately be the winner. Just like Adam Lambert last year! And who cares about some home town looser – good luck on your new amazing life Crystal!
that dreadful broad with dreads deserved to lose she was just a one trick pony.........LEE won whoo hoooo HE deserved it..he had grown over the weeks....what did crystal do????? nothing stood there and argued with the judges wouldn't change any thing...she clearly doesn't like to be told what to do.....she is not gonna make it far in this bussiness
Lee as the AI winner is the biggest travesty in the history of AI. The "safe" contestant will always win becasue of "teeny-boppers", those who vote for the worst candidate purposefully, and middle America who will not vote for edgy/talented artists like Crystal, Adam, or Daughtry. Crystal will out-perform Lee just as Adam will out perform "what's-his-name" from last year. (Was his name Chris?) Also, there is not a dime's worth of difference between Lee and last year's winner. Both quitar strumming singers with limited range and appealing to young girls. It will not be Simon leaving or Paula having left that will bring down Idol; it's going to be the voters that will bring it down with their choices of lesser talent.

Haha!! Right! She's a frickin hippie! Just as Wiseguy says. Her gaydar is pegging out too. She has a decent voice but it's average and nothing unique. Lee has what we are looking for today, or at least the majority hence winning A.I. I know the girls are a lil' bit sour and salty on him winning but get over it. The A.I. voters are I'm sure 90/10 female over male so suck it up and thank your female voters! If "Tummy-sox" was actually hot I'm sure more guys would have voted for her. We're talking dirty dreads and yellow teeth here! Be for real!! If she gets any kind of record deal maybe she can drop the pooch, hair and see a dentist.
I think they were both very talented, although Crystal may have edged Lee out on that one. I voted for Lee though because I would rather listen to him compared to Crystal. Stop knocking everyone for choosing someone they liked more.

I tried to vote for Crystal but could not get through any of the lines listed–worse I would get a recording saying thanks for holding and then a fast busy sound. I tried for two hours. I've since heard from several friends (and strangers in the local market) they had same experience!!!!! I don't trust the results at all!!!! Crystal, I know you got more votes than were tallied. Best of luck in your career!!

I agree....like last year's winner Kris Allen..i have only seen him on Ford commercials, heard one song on the radio and yet Adam Lambert,the runner up is all over the place.....As for Lee, he was just average not much different from Kris Allen...the whole idea of Idol was to find someone fresh, different and unique with soaring talent..that person was Crystal Bowersox.....Lee got all the little girl votes, like you said, probably 500 times each..would love to know just how much he won by....I agree with your prediction, we will be hearing a lot more from Crystal and Lee will probably go the way of back up band to a lead band and then eventually fade...he was good, but he was no Idol. Mammasox rox!
@Melh – They said during the finale that only 2% separated the winner from the runner up. Did they say how many total votes came in? That's the part I didn't catch.
What are you talking about? America always gets it right, and the winners always have amazing careers like: Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks, Kris Allen, Ruben Studdard....oops, guess those aren't good examples. America has gotten it right twice: Kelly, and Carrie. Everyone else was a popularity vote.
After the entire season and Crystal giving hints and waiting, Tony copped out. Good riddance, Crystal. On to better men. Maybe Crystal and Lee have a thing going on? I don't know, and I don't care. I just hope she will be happy. I have no doubt she'll be very successful – she's a pro with amazing talent and creativity.

That is categorically untrue. I live in the Toledo area and know many of her family members, former classmates, musicians and bar owners who have worked with her, etc. Do you care to name any of these "other contestants"? Did they tell you directly or grant a public interview? I thought not.
Crystal not attractive??? The moment I saw her I thought she was the best looking female on stage. Infact I didn't even care to watch the show except for her being on it. Absolutly Beautiful in my book, and a voice that I will hopefully be hearing for a long time to come.

How is the runner-up on season whatever of American Idol and her boyfriend breaking up news? In a couple of years we won't even remember her name, so why would we care about some guy she dated?
She's an amazing talent, and has a long career ahead of her, regardless of her not winning. I also happen to find her cute, and very sweet. I don't care if she doesn't "fit the mold", as many of you would have it. In fact, I'm happy she doesn't! I like her dreads. I like her smile. I like her style.

Honestly I think Crystal knew she wasnt going to win on Tuesday night, reason why she thanked Simon and the judges for giving her the huge opportunity she received. Lee is marketable abd Crystal wont change her ways... did Bono? did Lennon? did Madonna.... NOPE Crystal do this for you and your child. You are stunning and your voice is pure. Congratulations!
I am from Toledo! Run Baby Run ! You have more talent in your little finger then most I've seen on Idol. Most of the people are good singers, but girl you breathe it ! Not winning may be the best thing that ever happened to you! Some record company (many) will be courting you! Get a good lawyer ready and a fresh pen !
Guys, seriously, nobody knows what really happened. And probably we'll never find out. I personally do not buy Crystal's version. Could be she changed her mind or whatever, we'll never know. It's hard to live in a public eye like that, I don't blame the guy if that's really the case.
Heck yeah she can sing. I think there is more to being an idol though. She was so extremely unpleasant to look at. She looks so uncomfortable in every outfit they poured her into. And please, please, no more close up face shots. I had to close my eyes to enjoy her amazing voice.

If we all followed your standards, a lot of great female singers would never have cut a single - Aretha, Ann Wilson of Heart, Chrissie Hynde, Melissa Etheridge, even Janis Joplin. You can have Lee. Just be sure you have AutoTune handy, too.
Anne you are right! I think that was her ultimate down fall. It's sad to say but that is how the music industry is. Hasn't anyone heard the tough time they gave Ann Wilson or Kelly Clarkson, Carnie Wilson, Mama Cass etc, etc it all boils down to their looks and women have it much harder than men. Some dresses she looked good in other's not so much her heels made her look like a fish out of water. Even Simon has mentioned many times about the way people look when they perform. It's all part of the package............I like Crystal but her downfall is her Janis Joplin wardrobe and look.

Crystal will be just fine. She overcame tremendous odds as a diabetic person to almost win. She is charming and dedicated and seems to have a lot of heart. She's not trying to be a model- she's a singer, and I think she will go far. It's easy for people to say cruel things, but I'm pulling for her to have a great career, and would go to her concert.
I'm glad she got rid of her beard. I hope she will be brave enough to come out soon.
You do not know her or anything about her personal life. Please don't say things about people unless you know the truth. Please don't start unnecessary rumors.
Where there is smoke, there is usually fire. For that relationship to take a 180 like that, for her to spout that this lifestyle is more important than ANYTHING is just downright supportive of the suggestion, which she did say. Take that plus what we did see on camera and done is done.

It was quite a surprise that the final Idol was Lee, although, I was pulling for him all the way. Crystal was wonderful, she'll do extremely well in the future. As for her boyfriend leaving her it was probably the other way around. She really needs someone that will be there for her and her child.
I wish nothing but the best for Lee and Crystal. If their paths happen to come together that would be wonderful also!
I agree with Wes. As a casual viewer of the show, I was quite impressed with Crystal's performances. I almost wanted her to get kicked off early so she could get into the recording studio sooner. I will certainly purchase her CD when it is released. Lee was simply unremarkable, but I can certainly understand which demographic controls the vote, and it doesn't appear to be folks with an ear for talent. Do you honestly believe someone like Susan Boyle would have a chance of winning AI?
Sorry about Crystal and her boyfriend, and sorry she came in 2nd. But she will go far, with a voice like that, someone will sign her for an album contract. She and Lee both have GREAT talent.
I'm sorry that Simon will be gone next year............ they should get rid of Kara and Ellen, too.
The show was boring and weird this year.
I think it was so funny for last night. Crystal thought she won, therefore she was all smiling and thought she was the winner and owns the show. I never saw her so happy. Oops, she didn't win. Lol.....
The finale was half good and half terrible and a lot pathetic. And I didn't care who won. Because Adam Lambert had and still has the best voice ever of all seasons of American Idol.

Once again American Idol failed to deliver the most talented and original performer. Lee can't sing his way out of a paper bag. There were a few other contestants better performers that he was. He totally blew it the last night- and Crystal
nailed every song. No wonder Simon was getting bored – the show has lost its credibility and can no longer do what it was set out to do – give America new sounding and unique talent.
Crystal is extremely talented. Such a great voice. No doubt about it. There are two reasons I prefer Lee over Crystal. 1. She is not at all pleasant to look at. She didn't look good in one single outfit. Hopefully with some of her earnings she will hire a workout coach,a good dentist and a new hair dresser. 2. She HAD to talk to the judges after every one of her performances. She is so full of herself and loved hearing herself talk. Glad it's over and so glad Lee won.

Glad he left her. He was obviously not supportive, probably intimidated and obviously lacked in self-confidence. Crystal will do better without him and we all know she'll hook up with someone more her mentality. Breaking up on her biggest night says it all....I mean jeesh you couldn't wait another day.

Crystal is a star, no two ways about it. She really should have won, but we all keep forgetting about all those 13 year olds with cell phones. They text themselves silly and surely do affect the vote. Cute guys always will get their votes. Not saying that Lee isn't talented, he is also, but just not quite the level of Crystal. As for her boyfriend, "what are you thinking, dude?" "Have you lost your mind?" Crystal, can't wait for that first album. I was behind you all the way. If this guys is demonstrating his intelligence by leaving, you are probably better off and someone great is just around the corner.
I am 66 years old and I never liked a singer on American Idol as much as I liked Crystal She has poise, class, and is so talented it is wonderful. And so down to earth and mature. I never even buy music....but I would for this gal. She IS better off coming in second. Lee will fade away.....even though he is talented.....and Crystal will rock the music world. You watch! Thank you Marion. I agree – Crystal knows who she is – didn't change herself to get votes. Strong woman, very talented one. I think that no matter what happens, she will come out the most successful this year. Of course, makes other people unhappy – she isn't a skinny girl, and isn't eye candy for some. What rotten things they write. Obviously, if the boyfriend is not 'man' enough to marry her and raise the baby w/her, he is scared to commit to the success that she will have. At least he realizes she is too good for him! Obviously, if he dumps her on probably one of the greatest nights of her life, he isn't too nice a person. It can only get better for her. Re – the teeth issue – I'm glad all of you have veneers in your mouth. As has been said, the diabetes she suffers from has discolored her teeth. With her winnings, she can change them. Her dreadlocks? Seems to be quite stylish these days. Just was in Amsterdam and saw quite a few women and men with them. Not to my taste, but I try not to judge. It is what inside that counts!!!

Bowersox was too full of herself and way too pompous and sure of herself as becoming "the winner". Evidence is that "small town" comment about her ex. Yes, she did say she was small town, too, but she also said SHE WANTS OUT OF SMALLTOWN! What an undeserving woman. America got it right!

From the start and I thought the winner would be either Lee or Crystal. I like them both. But my number one pick would be Crystal. I think they're both very down to earth people. I hope CD's come out on both of them. I'll support them both. I love Idol.
I don't get it. He couldn't tolerate the lifestyle? Just another example of it wasn't meant to be, then it wasn't meant to be. I liked Lee and Casey, but I've favored Crystal the whole season. This was the first season I've paid attention to, personally, and now that she's lost, I know why. I think she's awesome – I'da stayed by her side!

So happy that Lee won. I didn't like crystal from day one. She is so junky and negative towards life. I think her place is the subway. so go back there. The Idol stage is set for the good people, like Lee. Not her.
Didn't like when she said the boyfriend would eventually "man up". Not nice, especially on TV. That turned me off on her after that. She seemed fake a lot. And she said she wanted a better life for her son but said how great her father was. Does she mean more money for her son? Money doesn't always equal a better life. Things just seemed a bit off where Lee seemed genuine. My opinions.
Maybe he does need to man up, we don't know. Did he expect her to drop out of the race, come home, and raise their family off minimum wage, or a factory that lays off all the time, in this economy? If this is the case, I say he's selfish to want her to quit her dream and ruin a chance to provide for her family, off interest for the rest of her life if she got out of the industry early. There are all kinds of possible outcomes, and perhaps he needed to hear that.

Just curious, but is "Big Tony" her son's father? If not, I think she should concentrate on her son first, then her career, and leave the men out of it for a while. Doesn't matter that Crystal didn't win. SHE WILL WIN ON THE BILLBOARD CHARTS. Lee has no appeal whatsoever, neither in vocals nor stage presence–did anyone notice that they always showed his face, rarely his entire body. Wishing Crystal the best, as well as Casey (the young rock stud from Texas) who also has a brilliant career ahead of him.

Lee won with talent. Talent in singing and in commanding a performance. Crystal is very talented. But that doesn't take anything away from Lee. Putting the opponent down doesn't make your opponent better. She lost. Lee won. Get over it.

Perhaps if you had a way to entertain yourself (books, TV, outdoor activity -whatever) instead of ranting non-sense about articles you don't care about, you wouldn't have to suffer the humiliation of being outed as one the contributing factors of America's "downhill" slide. Chris won last year because America doesn't do well with "different" and although Adam hadn't come out at the time it was fairly obvious he wasn't your run of them mill good ol' boy. Lee won this year because he is extremely talented, as is Crystal. It could have gone either way and I'm pretty sure both of them are going to have great careers regardless. Crystal may even be the lucky one because she's not tied to an American Idol contract for the next year.
Yay now Crystal and Lee can get together!!! I saw some sparks towrd the end with them....
Just like last year. Again America voted for what the judges pushed for and not the real talent. I watched last years winner and Lee and they both sounded the same. (dull) . Last years winner has only sold like 300,000 cd's. Lambert??? but is head and shoulder's clearly better. Think the same thing will happen when Lee releases his first cd. I hope Crystal releases a cd as I will definately buy it.

My wife forces me too watch this one show, so ok I'll watch it with her. This year was kind of dull compaired too last year but I think this show has evolved into, if your not a cute young man then the teen girls are not going too vote for you. Talent means something but not as much as getting those young women too vote for you. Adam last year had talent and a following but was not a young cute guy and same this year. Mrs Crystal has talent and actually puts on a show somewhat but couldnt beat the teen girls voting. In the end she will do better, I wish her luck with her personal life since it's going too be hard too find someone thats a good honest person that will put up with that life.
Its all a hoax. AI feels that Crystal is more marketable. So they put her in second place. The contestants that get to second place have better careers than those in first. Think of Adam Lambert, Katharine McPhee and most notably Clay Aiken. They are able to succeed without that American Idol stigma. Crystal Bowersox will have a better career than Lee Dewyze, I am almost certain.
Lance you're so wrong. Fantasia, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood have incredible careers. Some other contestants have done well too but they're all young. They can come into their own. I'd say all the winners have careers in show business. Lee is marketable. Lee is a cute guy...... Like it or not that's IS what sells. Crystal died and woke up in the 70's with the hippie look. Sorry, who else is selling with a look like that? NOBODY. And they were gearing up Crystal Tuesday nite, not Lee. Lee won. It's over. On to next year. It will be boring without Simon. Who will bother to watch then?
Crystal should have won...she was the best but I think this will work better for her...she won't be tied to AL as much. Look at the great talent that hasn't won...Daughtery, Hudson, Lambert....etc. I think the voting is wrong and should only be one vote per phone number!

That's too funny. When Lee was accepting his award and said a big "I love you guys" to everyone – then made a point to tell Crystal he loved her, I told my wife they could be the next Sonny and Cher.

I agree that Crystal was the better singer, but I think in the long run it may be better for her to come in second. I think she will do better without the restrictive bounds of the "winners contract" and should appreciate that she will have more creative freedom to do whatever music she wants. Not that it wouldn't suck to come so far only to come in second, but I think this really could have a silver lining for her!!

Simon should not have decreed on Monday that Lee would win. That was wrong. I like Lee fine and I liked Kris over Adam last year but we got two very conservatives two years in a row. It may be one reason fewer people watch Idol next year.
Crystal should have won. She is the most talented performer in the history of that show. Can any of the others write a song? Nope.
Have you heard of Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson? They write a lot of their songs. Unless you're referring to this season and then I must agree, they are all pretty lames except for Crystal.
I'd say you're pretty much right on the money. She's a real genuine ARTIST. I've seen so many tonsils and heard so many screamers over the past ten years I was ready to give up until Crystal came along. She didn't need to win anyway – talent like that – now that it's out there will rise to the surface. We'll hear and see a lot more of her I'm sure. The boyfriend was a loser anyway. Every internet review showed that Crystal was leaps and bounds better than Lee and should win. Every blog that I saw was heavily favored for Crystal. I am done with American Idol. It's obvious votes don't count. It's all about who Simon Fuller and the Judges want to win. Disghusting! So Sad that she lost A.I. and boyfriend too, but sounds like he wasn't worth keeping anyway.

I feel that Crystal was more deserving of winning. Her inspirations are more meaningful than Lee's and her singing is amazing, easy to FEEL, and really appropriate for Texans like me. I like Lee but he doesn't have children and his performances didn't move me like Crystal's. If they hook up, that would be cool! I hope that's the case but if she ends up selling more records than him, I hope he doesn't stress out too much.

I'm laughing....the crush she admitted was on Casey....for what it's worth. The dentist and shampoo comment made me laugh. Not at her, but because I, as I'm sure many people who watch AI, had the same thought at times during the season. Although I consider myself a extremely hot and attractive person, lol, I'm sure if my face were plastered on the TV with the close ups and all that, the critics would come out of the woodwork...my nose would be too big, or the lack of an observable 6 pack on my stomach(they're there under the cooler!!), or maybe my permanent golfers tan would be tops on the hollywood gossip tabloids!! Bowersox is the better singer, more powerful, should have easily won based on PERFORMANCE.

The same holds true for Lee DeWyze as far as I am concerned they both won! I think Crystal is better off for not winning because she'll have more control over her career than Lee. She won't be locked in to the American Idol way of making a career. I think AI can mold Lee into what they want they couldn't do that with Crystal she is set in her genre. Overall win win for both of them.

But Simon was doing his best to sell him to the voters which means the others really got shafted along with Crystal. Now that Simon is gone the show will run accordingly and let the voters decide for themselves.

I believe Crystal cuddled up to Lee too much and it is not in good taste if you have a boyfriend. She should have been more reserved. Also, Crystal has a much greater voice than Lee who won because Simon was promoting him all the time to the voters. Judges should not promote any contestant and let the voters decide who they think should be chosen as American Idol.

Does anyone care about any of this? I have NEVER watched "American Idol," and never intend to. It is no wonder that the U.S.A. is going downhill with the amount of irrelevant and idiotic content people are watching on TV and elsewhere. Let me tell you why I do.
I've NEVER watched Idol, until the beginning of this round when I heard about Crystal. I was immediately captured by her voice, but also by those blond dredlocks. I taped every show, but only watched her. I will buy her albums.
I still don't know Lee's last name, don't care.
I read plenty of books (all kinds). I'm educated and a working professional. If people want to watch something for pure entertainment (whether you like it or not) is their choice. A little mind candy is a stress relief for some people. Some posters may think that commenting on something that another person never has seen is idotic. Food for though.

I have a lot of great memories of watching American Idol with my now teen-age daughter, and talking about people and events of the show. I agree that it doesn't seem as good as in past years – my favorite year was when Fantasia won – but every year there is some really great singing and music. We loved American Idol.
And her grade point average is actually ABOVE 4.0!
I think Lee was much better than the last few winners. He definitely has a future.
Especially if him and Crystal start a band together, that would be cool. Not that they need each other to succeed but they will be good
