Gary Coleman hospitalized

Former child star Gary Coleman has been hospitalized in critical condition, a hospital spokesperson tells CNN and "Showbiz Tonight."

Coleman was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo yesterday. The reason for his hospitalization was undisclosed.

Coleman is best known for starring as Arnold Drummond in the late-'70s and early '80s sitcom "Diff'rent Strokes." The NBC show, the story of two inner-city children who are taken in by a wealthy businessman, his daughter and their housekeeper, was built around the young star, who had a natural charm and way with a line.

His frequently uttered “Whatchoo talkin’ ‘bout, Willis?”, directed at his older brother (played by Todd Bridges), became a catchphrase.

However, Coleman has struggled in recent years. Afflicted with the kidney disease nephritis - the reason for his short stature - he's long had health problems. He was hospitalized in February after suffering a seizure on the set of a TV show.

He's also had money problems: He sued his parents over mismanagement of his finances; though he won a $1.3 million settlement in 1993, he had to file for bankruptcy six years later. He's also been in the news for appearances on TV court shows.

There certainly are some childish, hateful, ridiculous, spineless excuses for human beings here making hateful comments about a poor man down on his luck. Even so, Mr Coleman has done more with his life than some of the useless, SPINELESS twits who have nothing better to do than take on the screen names of characters from 'LOST' etc and insult people. You are NOT being funny you guys, you are NOT being clever and you are NOT doing anything creative or useful. Why don't some of you 12 year olds get some humanity, get some brains and get a heart!! If you don't like what I've said I'm not going to hide like a COWARD behind my anonymous computer. I am Matthew D Lawson of Papakura, Auckland, New Zealand. Who the HELL are some of you?!

I think he had major "trust" issues. I had seen him on TV too a few times(not in recent years) & he was bitter & angry & wanted to put his role as sweet Arnold way behind him. Todd Bridges recently wrote a book, was on Oprah–has been sober 17 years-has a great family now etc. Best Wishes & Blessings to Gary Coleman & yes, when some people do pray they can mention his name in prayer (nothing wrong with that). Peace.

I am in Utah north of where he is.
Chances he will be transported north to here if he is savable. I lived near one of the best hospitals in the US. Top 20. I was recently dx with a kidney and heart problem You get dizzy a lot with kidney disease. I woke up very dizzy today after months of no symptoms. You know you just tick away the days and try to make the best life has to offer you.
As a newly dx CKD person. My hearts and prayers are with him. He has fought since child hood with his disease. Kidney disease affects your muscles your heart, your eyes, and you can become anemic, and dehydrated and have to watch the food you eat and salt and water or risk faster failure.

Manly ppl have kidney disease but never know until it is too later. Pls go ask your dr for a GFR test and GMP test. IF the test show your GFR below 65 you you have kidney disease but not kidney failure, yet.
I wish I had known sooner. I figurre i have ten yrs left. Gary had a lifetime.

I wish him well. Dana plato and her son were very tragic. Some people cannot handle certain things in life. Todd Bridges is an amazing man. Unfortunately for him his name has to be dragged out every time something bad happens to one of the cast. And yes, I know "why then am I" because he always gets bashed, and he should be lauded for what he has managed to pull himself out of. Major junkie-dealing unknown on the streets with a loaded gun, sleeping in alleys. He's been clean for years and has a wonderfull family, but you don't hear aboout that, and most people DON'T want to hear about that. Bashing is much more fun.

$British Prophet$, BP has no respect for Gods creatures. For over a year I have been stopping at MacDonalds in the morning and see a seagull standing on one foot. I throw a few chips to him and its a bit sad now that he is gone. Now it reminds me of the dead sea turtles in the gulf. Obama=more double speak. He admitted knowing of the problems when he took over from Bush. I'd expect this type of incompetence and bull from Bush. But everyone believed in the arrogant Obama hype. This is Obamas fault. He knew about the corruption and risk taking and did nothing but hang out at cool Washington parties. In fact he said oil rigs don't pollute anymore so drill away boys. Nice try blaming BP. Waiting for a month, hoping with the kids that this would go away didn't work. Call in another company with actual expertise and send BP the bill you ninny! You also have the Fatima and other information that they are covering up. People may ask is there any meaning to what is happening here? The government is behind the 8 ball because Big oil paid off everyone in government. There is no plan for alternative energy because of this. The angel is trying to say something.....Rev 16:3. Hillary, Kim J is calling your bluff. Let her rip? Or bold talk?

Spelling takes low priority in these forums. I could care less how most of the people here spell, but when someone makes a dumb point and tries to come off as intelligent while his spelling indicates otherwise, I will speak up. I could care less if the majority here cannot spell. It shouldn't matter to you all that much unless that is all you got out of this article.

Gary was a child actor in commercials first in Chicago, the voice of Harris Bank, "You should have a Hubert Doll!!" And for an aluminum siding construction company. He was adored by the local public and cheered when he went off to Hollywood. His parents did in fact do their best to protect Gary's interests. They were not sophisticated people and probably too trusting. Gary eventually needed a lot of consuling for his chronic health and emotional problems but even today, that is not prominent in the fame game of Hollywood. A prayer for Gary is the kindest thing to offer him now.

It sucks to go through life thinking your life is better because of your height, your gender, your skin colour, etc. (All things which are genetically predetermined and you have no control over.) You have missed the whole point of being alive my friend. We all are different in one way or another, some abnormalities are more obvious than others, just as some gifts are more obvious than others. The point of being alive, is to take what you are given and use it to try to leave the world a little better than you found it. Pity me not. Hateful people always end up blogging so much because they aren't held accountable for their hateful viewpoints in real life. Coleman was a successful TV child star who entertained millions with his show. He's had a kidney disease since childhood that stunted his growth. His parents mismanaged the money he made as a child star. He rightfully sued his parents and got a settlement Unfortunately, he didn't use his settlement wisely. Why spew hatred at this man? It's a sad story. Who knows if he will recover and be able to straighten out at this stage of his life. Seems like the damage is already done. I feel sorry and sad for him.

Bad acting? Well, I haven't seen anything he's done since Different Strokes, but I grew up watching that show. I saw a pic of him a couple months ago when he was in the news...he looked really sad...or it was a really bad picture. Either way, he's in my prayers.

Is it really you Gary? If so I wish you the best of luck with your medical situation and future. I have always thought you were wonderful and have left quite an impression. My prayers are with you. If it is not Gary, shame on you for using that name unless it is your name coincidentally.

Don't worry – you're medical condition will make you the latest "washed up" star to get the love of the American Public which will allow you to make some SERIOUS CASH!! PS – how'd I look on American Idol the other night? I'll put a good word in for Mr. Trump for you.
