Top 2 take to the 'Idol' stage8:48 p.m. –So MamaSox gets a cover tune, too, with "Up to the Mountain." This song seems made for her, and she sang the mess out of it. I got chills when she sang "It's been a long time coming." You could tell she almost broke down and started bawling. She actually had a moment there. Wow.
It was sweet of her to wish Simon well with his future, though I fear it may have come across as a little cocky. 8:37 p.m.- We get a first listen to what could be Lee's first single: "Beautiful Day." Wait, that's U2's single! Just because Bono is out with a hurt back doesn't mean you can jack his music like that. It's wasn't a horrible cover, but really U2 worked that song, and Lee did not. I'm conflicted. I would also like to thank Simon for once again bringing up the paint store. Geez. 8:29 p.m. – No fair making MamaSox come down the stairs in those heels! She sings "Black Velvet" and she looked scared to death coming down those steps. I think they were going for an "Adam Lambert" type of moment with the lighting and the way they shot it. She sounded good, though I thought it was borderline screechy towards the end. She didn't have as much control as Adam would have had on that number but I need to stop living in the past. I swear it's really hard to pick between these two. Both Lee and Crystal seem like they are giving it their all. 8:21 p.m. – The executive producer's choice for Lee is "Everybody Hurts." I am so sick of the paint store reference. I don't doubt that if Lee wins and appears on Seacrest's radio show that Ryan will introduce him as "former paint salesman now 'American Idol' champ...Lee DeWyze!" And what a shock, there's a choir! Lee seems like he is a little shook. Ordinarily I don't hear the "pitchy" as much as the judges claim, but I so heard it tonight. Breathe deep Lee! And is it me or is this show just zipping right along tonight? 8:12 p.m. – I knew MamaSox was going to perform "Me and Bobby McGee!" That's her wheelhouse mos def. She's also gone the safe route, though her performance is definitely more energetic than Lee. She wants this so bad, you can tell. It's a competition ya'll! 8:08 p.m. – I think Crystal was smart to choose to go second. Who in the world was that on the coin they flipped? All I could see was pink hair. Lee chooses "The Boxer" from Inspirational Week as his song choice. He's playing it safe and he's looking as cute as ever. It took him a minute but little Lee is finally looking comfortable on stage. Way more than you might expect a paint salesman to look. Randy thinks Lee needs to pick up the energy and I think Randy needs to have picked a better outfit, so there. I thought Lee did a good job. 8:02 p.m. – Holy crap on a cracker look at all of those people crammed into the Nokia Theater! Seacrest says 7,000 folks turned out and you know that there will be some celebs in the audience. What was up with that entrance? MamaSox dropped her mike and then she looked confused as to where she was supposed to be. Lee beat her to the stage. Hope that's not a sign of things to come! |

I hope Crystal wins, She can sing and she reminds a litle bit of Jewel. Although Lee may get the teeny bopper votes and that will push him into the top spot. I just don't think he had near the power or the passion that Crystal does. and all of you nay saysers that are putting down her looks - Have you looked at today's "Artists" i mean look at like Conye or god forbid that Miley Cyrus–please there are two no talent hacks that Crystal can sing miles around.
I prefer Crystal...but think Lee is talented as well. It doesn't matter who wins... Usually the losers do well too. Both will have great careers. The vote is just a popularity contest at this point with the gang with the most nimble fingers swaying the outcome...
All those with bad things to say about Crystal always comment about the way she looks...if it's all apperance and a little about talent, AI is nothing more than a co-gender beauty contest.
Crystals last song, had to leave no dry eyes in the house...fantastic...If Lee wins, it's no talent contest. Crystal should already have a record contract...where is Chris Allen these days? She sings with pain and passion he sings with some fear and paiont fumes!
Really and Truly BIG MIKE SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE TOP 2 AND HE SHOULD HAVE WON THE WHOLE DAM THING ..BIG Mike is a better singer than both of these 2 put together..
LEE not mamasox, Lee has good looks and personality, Mamasox has no looks and horrid personality. Thats my OPINION...GO LEE YOU DEFINATELY GOT MY VOTES LAST NIGHT.............................
I wouldn't pay to watch either of them, nor would I waste money buying their ITunes, which says something about this year's talent since I do have Daughtry, David Cook, Allison, Kris Allen from last year, and everything that Adam Lambert has ever done. He is an entertainer. It won't matter which of these two win, as they'll be forgotten like Taylor Hicks and Ruben Stoddard by this time next year.
They're both very good, but I'm afraid Lee will be another Chris (who?) Allen. He is so similar to David (who?) Cook too. Lat year AI viewers got it wrong with Adam L not winning, I hope they get it right this year and vote for Crystal because I would go see her perform.
Can anyone tell me why they changed the format for the final song? In years past, the final contestants sang the same song for the last of their three songs. This year they cover a song? And not even the same song for both? How fair is that? Crystal was totally at home sitting on a stool, playing her guitar. But Lee has to stand up, no guitar and "work the stage" while singing a really big song? I agree that Crystal out-sang Lee last night, but I think what put her over the top and Lee in second place was that last performance. If they had they opportunity to sing the same song, Crystal still may have out-sang Lee, but at least it would have been fair!
Hey JGR? Have you HEARD the final songs the contestants have been forced to sing over the past several seasons?? They STUNK! And last year's "No Boundaries" was the absolute WORST!! In fact, Lambert told What's his name that he was GLAD what's his name won last year because that meant he (Lambert) would never have to sing that God awful song again!!
And by the way, no one forced Lee to stand up and sing, – he CHOSE to. Get a clue and get back to us.

Hey Tom, You are right in that the songs the contestants have been forced to sing in the past have beeni ncredibly cheesy. My issue is not with the song choice (cheesy or otherwise). My issue is that they were not put head to head and forced to sing the same song, as has been tradition.
BTW, I NEVER once said in my comment that Lee sang better than Crystal last night. Get some reading glasses and get back to us....
Crystal just h ad "it" tonight. I thought I'd like to see and hear her in concert live, while I thought Lee might be pleasant to listen to on a CD. Crystal moved me vocally and with her performance. Lee has a good voice. Part of me wanted Lee to come from behind and "kill it." He just didn't...Randy, Ellen, Kara & Simon almost begged him to bring it...for some reason he just couldn't do it when it counted most. But, should have a good career now & won't have to work in a paint store. Crystal could be the next superstar.

Interesting and entertaining show tonight...
Lee seemed nervous and I believe that effected his performance. The U2 song lacked Bono's vocals. There are some songs that are not just the shape of the heart but the essence is the vocals of the group's singer that gives them that edge. Some tunes many sings can sing well but there are those that require a specific vocals tone or character.
better off stay away from those types of tunes.
Crystal hit a home run and she has the complete package. She is a pretty girl with a heart of gold. Relaxed and she has been blessed with the whole package. I loved her performance. Standing ovation. Both of these artists are really good
but Crystal has a rare talent. She is very talented in many ways. And I think she won the crown. Well hopefully. Bless her. Sorry to see Simon go. Great judge!!! What a journey!!! All the judges are cool. Bless everyone.

American Idol is still an excellent show and the best show to find future stars – artist/performer/singer/songwriter despite all the negative comments and drop of TV’s ratings recently. However if American idol wants to continue to be a successful show for years to come with credibility and integrity, Crystal Bowersox with her amazing natural talents and strong performances during the past few months should win and must WIN in this season!!! Wish America will make the right decision tonight accordingly!!!

I'm thinking Lee will win. Crystals got a unique voice, but the last couple weeks or so, she has been screeching down the house and Lee has been getting more consistent.

Crystal is a tiny bit rough around the edges with her somewhat talkative demeanor, her problematic teeth and slight clumsiness. But it's because she is entirely, 100 percent self-made: no show business mom-manager working the angles, just absolute raw talent. She will soar and be very popular, mark my words.

UGH! This format is frustrating. Crystal........OMG GIRL! That was adrenaline! HOLY SMOKES.
Wow she was nervous about those stairs – eyed them the first few bars like "I have to do what?" – but her voice is so fabulous that it overcame the awkward moment. Her voice is one I could listen to for a long time.
I love Black Velvet and without her guitar she really put on a show for once. I loved that.

I've enjoyed listening to Chrystal this season, but I have to wonder...what were the judges thinking when they praised "Black Velvet"? I thought she was completely out of tune a number of times, screechy and trying to keep up w/the song. I really didn't like it at all. But I'm not an official judge; just my opinion. "Black Velvet" – NOT good. Here's to you Lee. I think you deserved better praise tonite than you got.
So far I have to say Crystal has out performed Lee. She seems less nerve wracked too.

I liked Crystal's performance better than I thought I would as I don't like that song so much – but, she did great. Both did great, but Crystal just "has it" to me.
It will be very hard to choose the best performer tonight. Lee and Crystal are the male/female versions of each other!
