Comedians celebrate George Carlin's legacyGeorge Carlin's birthday is not a national holiday, but it has special meaning for many comedians. Hollywood's Laugh Factory hosted a posthumous birthday bash Wednesday night for Carlin, who would have been 73, to honor his lifelong struggle for comedic freedom. Comedians Tom Arnold, Paul Mooney, Paul Rodriguez, Tom Green, Judy Tenuta, Jay Phillips and Shawn Wayans each held a sign with one of Carlin's "heavy seven" words from his legendary routine "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television."

Lisa Presley: Michael Jackson's grave could use a 'sun shower'
Lisa Presley isn’t too happy about all of the empty space around her late ex-husband Michael Jackson’s grave. “While visiting him a few days ago at Forest Lawn , Riley and I couldn't help but notice that , while there are a few bouquets , candles and gifts there is a very large empty space around him and in front of him that could use a whole lot more,” Presley wrote on her MySpace blog. More specifically, it could use a whole lot more sunflowers, since that was Jackson’s favorite flower, Presley said. FULL POST

So long, 'Annie'After more than 85 years, “Little Orphan Annie” is getting kicked out of her digs - Tribune Media Services has canceled the comic strip. The adventures of Annie, Sandy and Daddy Warbucks will no longer run in newspapers as of June 13, according to the New York Daily News. As of late, the kid was barely hanging on, running in just 20 daily newspapers. However, that doesn’t mean she’s gone for good. A VP of licensing at Tribune Media Services, a division of the Tribune Co., told the Chicago Tribune that the comic will live on in other forms.

Robert Pattinson likes to joke that Kristen Stewart is pregnant
The now ubiquitous cast of the “Twilight” saga swung by the set of “The Oprah Winfrey Show” Thursday, and mainly discussed topics they've already talked about before. The audience was reminded of what it’s like to go from relative unknowns to global superstars (it's weird); how Taylor Lautner got so beefy (eating protein and working out); how Robert Pattinson feels about being the actor most likely to have his name attached to a fawning superlative (he doesn't understand it); and how painfully shy Kristen Stewart is (look at red carpet photos for evidence). There wasn’t much that the cast hasn’t rehashed in other interviews, which isn’t surprising considering the exposure these three get. Here’s a rundown of things you maybe, just maybe, don't already know.

GLAAD: We must move beyond stereotypes
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation has issued a statement about the Newsweek article that has yet to cool down at the water cooler. “We must move beyond stereotypes,” GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios wrote in an e-mail to CNN. “As a gay man, Setoodeh should know that not all gay men are effeminate, nor are all lesbians masculine. Actors are hired to play a part and their sexual orientation should have no bearing on how well they can do so.” Barrios goes on to say, “I hope that gay young adults do not read this piece and think that they are worth less than their straight counterparts because openly gay people today are indeed successful actors as well as Senators, parents, corporate leaders and athletes. Jessica Simpson's got a new 'Entourage'
No, she hasn’t ditched her longtime confidant and hairdresser Ken Paves, or bestie Cacee Cobb, but she has been getting closer to the stars of "Entourage." Simpson recently wrapped up a two-day shoot playing herself for HBO’s popular series. In the storyline, Simpson finds herself caught between Jeremy Piven's character and another agent who is trying to steal her away. Following her day on the set Tuesday, the singer tweeted, “I have the utmost respect for the entire cast and crew of Entourage! Thank you for making the past 2 days memorable.” |
