Five reasons we loved this week's episode of '24'![]() SPOILER ALERT: You know the drill... if you haven't seen this episode of "24" - and don't want to know what happens - don't read any further! Greetings Bauerites, I'll get right to it. Mark down another lightning-paced, thrill-ride-of-an-episode of "24." Let me be blunt. This space is not reserved for hugs, kisses and kudos for the writers and cast of the show. When they make me watch paint dry, I say so. If I'm reorganizing my sock drawer, checking e-mail and playing Jenga (simultaneously) while I watch, that pretty much means I'm not feeling a particular episode. However, I also give credit where it is due. Lately, the show has gotten things right in bunches. Sure, there are idiosyncrasies that faithful Bauerites can spot quicker than Arlo Glass can punch up a drone feed, but this is fun and we're officially having it. The "24" ride is thrilling, and we've got six hours left in the park to ride this roller coaster before the gates close... so strap in and hang on. I gave this week's show high marks for these five reasons, in order from least to greatest: 5. Mrs. Hassan will become the new leader of Kamistan. That's right Bauerites, you made the call in last week's comments (yes, I read them all). A few readers suggested that Mrs. Hassan would be asked to step up after her husband's assassination, and she indeed answered the call. 4. Hastings is out, and Chloe O' Brian is in! Finally! Our favorite analyst-extraordinaire gets the chance to prove herself running point for CTU's operation. As I watched, there were fist pumps and high-fives all around. At one point, I even overheard myself say "Hey bartender, we need another round over here, and send one over to the lady in charge with the permanent frown and poor social skills!" 3. "Logan's back?" or "Logan's back!" Question or exclamation mark, you decide. Its always great to see a hated character make a return, because it feels like springtime. This means I get to grow my hatred for Logan's spineless, smarmy, backstabbing nature like a chia pet that's completely bald and right out of the box. Maybe this time, he can actually get what he deserves in the end - a sniper's bullet. 2. OMG! Renee! No! Speaking of sniper's bullets, I could feel some coming in the air, but I wasn't sure the Russian guy would actually "get" Jack... or Renee. But then, as we heard the thud of a body hit the floor, the cut to Jack was perfectly timed as he noticed the hole in the window. The subtle buildup of tension in that well-timed piece of editing hit us hard with the first view of her bloody foot, and climaxed after Jack's mad dash to the emergency room. As a viewer, I felt the sense of urgency every step of the way, and I'm sure you did too. We all wanted Renee to make it, but she didn't and it hurt. 1. The look on Jack's face There are many moments in television that are simply unforgettable, and the moment Jack was told that Renee has been killed ranks among the most gripping I've ever seen. There seemed to be so many emotions bottled up in his eyes. For all the things he's seen, all the predicaments he's lived through, and all the bullets that have whizzed past him, THIS moment seems beyond his comprehension. It was a finely tuned, well-oiled moment of epic drama. I don't think I could take much more. That makes two straight weeks of silent countdowns at the show's end. I think the show's writers have packed the script with situations that will keep us engaged even as the plot goes in yet another direction with the mystery still to be revealed of the Russian government's involvement. As a bonus, the show ran the full hour without ANY Dana Walsh sightings (score!), but we will be seeing her in next week's episode. Speaking of bonuses, CNN.com also has something special for fans of "24." Howard Gordon, executive producer of "24" stopped by to talk about the end of the show and also gave us a glimpse into the upcoming movie. Take a look at the interview here and be sure to tune in next week! Loved, kinda liked, or hated this week's show? Let us know. |

Sorry it took me this long to get my blog in. (was out of town w/ no laptop, iphone, blackberry, etc.) The King is dead, the King is dead, long live Chloe!
Boy, Jack has the hardest luck with women. Seems like whenever he gets close to romance they get knocked off. Sucks to be a lightning rod for bullets. If I were his daughter Kim I wouldn't want him around my family. At least James Bond had romance in his life. When Jack gets some nookie watch for bullets to fly.
What can you say about "24" it has you in a hard grip for an hour. This past week was no different. I really want Jack to have a "happy every after" finish but I don't see it happening. I was so hurt when I saw the look on Jack face when he knew Renee was dead.
I really hate it that this is the last season. I plan my Monday's around this show. I really hope the writers don't do anything to Jack really crappy in the remaining 6 shows. I know he's not going to have it easy but come on. Maybe Audrey can come back to ease the pain a bit whereever she maybe?
While I respect every one's right to have their say, Renee had to go. I have a soft spot fro the smokin' hot red-head, but she began clouding the mind of Jack.
And who in their right mind would believe that Jack would emerge from the bed all giddy like a teenage boy who'd lost his virginity? If anyone would have told me that that would be he reaction after a passionate afternoon with Renee(or 37 seconds in '24' land) I would have cast the first stone.
Jack came out looking like '86 Ferris Bueller, rather than a fine '62 James Bond.
All that aside, look for a Hemi powered Bauer.
In the immortal words of C. Montgomery Burns, "Release The Hounds!"
When Jack began asking Chloe questions about the conversation she and Renee had about the Russian and the Red Square campaign, I got a certain shudder run through my body. I am preparing myself for carnage of biblical proportions, as Jack makes like genocide and decimates a small portion of the Russian population looking for the assassin. Jack will be chillier than a Bond martini, more calculating than Texas Instruments, and deadlier than bubonic plague.
I hate Fox, the producers and creators of '24', and the mentality that one should go out on top. It is simply a callous reason for them all to hook us like meth addicts, and light up the glass pipe for six more hits of the most intoxicating show since '90120.' (It's OK to admit you liked it. We all have our demons.)
Of course they would tap Mrs. Hassan as the new leader. Just call her Eva Peron. Renee shouldn't have been killed. It was a predictable ploy. Renee and Jack had been through a lot and they should have been able to ride off into the sunset. Jack still would have finished the assignment by having Pres. Taylor play to his sense of duty. To me, this episode was a downer.
..oops..WILL BE APPOINTED...
Obviously...many people..or almost everybody...didn't say anything about the fact that..THE FINALE HAS BEEN SPOILED in this particular episode....CHLOE will run CTU long enough for JACK TO SOLVE THE LAST 6 HOURS....WHO DO YOU THINK WILL APPOINTED AS HEAD OF CTU when clock strikes 3:59:57...3:59:58...3:59:59..4:00:00PM?...pretty obvious....
Can it really be called a shocker when it was totally expected? What really would have been a shocker would be that by some miracle Renee was able to live out the next 6 hours despite getting the kiss of death from Jack Bauer!
I just watched last night's episode for the third time it was that good;
whether you liked Renee or not, we all love Jack, and it was so painful to see him suffer, barefoot, bloodsoaked and alone, an amazing emotional performance by our man Kiefer. And the conference room scene between Gregory Itzin and Cherry Jones, great writing and acting and so much fun to watch. I can't predict the plots, how it will all end, or who will live or die, I've been wrong all season, but I sure can appreciate collaborative genius when I see it. Thanks 24!
Kiefer Sutherland Is so hott
I was glad to see freckles die. Sure, it was the obvious choice. I mean, what are they going to do, kill off Jack Bauer with six episodes to go in the final season? I don't think so. Besides, the actor who plays Renee or whatever the hell her name is was WAY too talented to be on this show. 24 takes great actors and reduces their skills to shame. As they plod through dialog so bad it makes Kevin Smith look like Shakespeare. Renee never let bad dialogue get her down, and therefore she had to die.
Sorry to see Renee die. Although, as soon as I saw that she recognized the "cop" I knew she was either going to be a mole or die. I'm not so sure that she would've been emotionally ready to enter into a relationship with Jack. Her mannerisms were monotone almost like she was about to have a psychotic break. I loved when Jack asked Renee,"Are you okay?" Gives me the shivers!!
I predict that Dalia (Hassan's wife) is going to be murdered, and the daughter Kayla will be the new IRK leader.
ab: this is not twitter: You don't have to put a @ in front of the users name. Go back to 6th grade. 24 rocks and I look forward to every episode.
NP
Did anyone else notice that the the stain of Renee's blood on Jack's shirt was in the shape of a heart? (I haven't read all of the comments yet.) I thought it was an obvious shape and perhaps subliminal.
Sitting here with my Chloe mouse pad (available on Fox's website) and thinking about how much I really enjoy this show. All good things must end but this one is difficult to accept.
I was devastated to see Renee die. I knew that she was going to die the moment she picked up the phone and stood up. It is not because I like her but the character meant so much to Jack and it was painful to see him suffer this kind of loss.
Don’t know what to do on Monday nights after May 24
Perhaps there is a co-relation between Jack losing Renee and Tony losing Michelle and Tony will somehow be a factor by the end?
There are 7 hours left, not 6.
Loved it!
Dereyck wrote, "...and we've got six hours left in the park to ride this roller coaster before the gates close..." By my count, there are seven hours left.
Also, there's no way Logan is up to any good. He's got to be part of this Russian conspiracy, too.
In an earlier post, I wrote that casting Katee Sackhoff as the timid Dana was a mistake. My bad. She is believable now as the mole that can garotte people. I loved her interaction with Jack in the interrogation scene the previous hour.
Also nice to see Reed Diamond getting some work after Dollhouse came to a close.
No one should be surprised about Renee's death. Women in jacks life die. His wife. Nina. sure Jack killed her and we all cheered but she was a love interest at one point and she broke his heart. His mexican girl he tried to steal from Hector. Audrey went comatose which is still a hard blow to jack. And now Renee. Why not kill of Kim, destroy jack, turn him into the villian for the movie and have Tony come back and kill him.
I was so sad about Renee being killed.I just could not believe it.I do not know the rest of the season but I really hope that FOX can give us (fans) something very special for Jack.He deserves a happy end.And I know that the fans will still watching Jack as a husband. So, please give us an amazing end.
There was NO chemistry between Renee & Jack. It was time for her to go.
I know this is the last season and the show is cleaning up the cast and moving towards the conclusion, but I hate the writers for making Renee dead. Unless they intend to bring Audrey back it's a terrible mistake to eliminate Renee. In fact, even Audrey is not as good as Renee as Jack's partner and love interest.
The bottom line is that if Jack ends up without a lover/future wife to live happily ever after at the end of the show, it will portrait that a hero who has sacrificed so much for our country is a loser at the end of the day. This is the least what we want to see for Jack. It would be shame to picture our hero like that. We really want Jack who has suffered so much for so long can have a peaceful normal life as most of us have.
OMG – you hit it all on the head! Will so very much miss this show!!!!!
Chloe is always the smartest person in the room. It's about time!
Wow! Who knew Kiefer Sutherland could really act?
Renee had to die, why? Because as it goes jack will never be able to have a normal life, this is the life he has chosen and this is what he is meant to do. I unlike some people wanted her to die not because i didn't like her but because it would only mean that no one is safe for the remainder of the show and all bets are off, just my own opinion.
This blog is the worst ever. Do you even watch the show? What is there to possibly love about anything? It's the worst!
When's the last time you ate a plum and then just took a squat?
Gotta love Charles Logan stinking up the joint again with his dirty tricks!
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MGnYf14zLQE&hl=en_US&fs=1&]
7 hours are left. 6 nights. But 7 glorious hours. 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, and 24. So much can happen between now and then. This IS 24, afterall. Definitely not your typical show, right? 🙂
24 on NBC ? Won't be the same without our Jack. Besides, I don't think NBC can afford the production budget with the payout to Conan.
I knew Renee was going to die the moment she showed up this season. A recurring theme that the writers give Jack is that he must deal with great sacrifices for his country. And he has... It was only a matter of time before Renee would somehow tragically die. Having a love interest would not only run counter to that theme, it would distract Jack from his missions.
Does anyone seriously think we may be watching 24 on NBC next season?
Yeah. The orders were coming from the Russians. Samir was working with them to stop peace process.
a little late to bring this up I do not know if anyone catched it but im not sure in which episode it was wen Dana was talking to the terrorist she said my orders were to give you information and not blow my cover....she made it sound like if her orders came from somebody above the terrorist.
SP "Thirsty!"
Best line of the night.... Jack: "I'm soooo thisty".
EPIC!
I agree with all but the last. You've got to be kidding me! One thing Kiefer Sutherland doesn't know how to portray is emotion. He looked pained, not because it was the emotion he was to portray, but because he didn't know how to act it out.
Speaking of Charles Logan, did anybody else notice that his ears are no longer pierced? I had just gotten a high-def plasma before year 5 started and noticed that Greg Itzik had pierced ears - which seemed a bit out of place on a president. I guess enough viewers have HD now that the makeup people have to stucco his lobes. Which just makes me like the character all that much more. He reminds me a cross between Nixon and W: villainy personified!!!
Love, love, LOVE 24. Question though... how can there be a 24 movie? The series is real time and a movie is 90 minutes or so. How's that going to work?
Definite Emmy for Keifer !!!
My main concern now is that Dana will be rewarded for her poor acting (or directing/editing) and end up in the movie. I'd much rather see her, I don't know, get skinned alive or something – that would be something new (except is was done of "V" last season). I rue having to put up with Dana's insesant spy-scowl-I'm-dangerous acting. But, then, I'm not in charge. Emmy for Keifer! – if one scene can do it, his last one last night qualifies! GREAT JOB, MAN!
What a great show. Whatever will we do without Jack Bauer?
Seeing Jack carry Renee out of the building reminded so much of when Terri died that first season. I thought for once, Jack was going to be happy, but he only got a few moments of that before another woman was yanked out from under him because of fighting terrorists. It made for great TV, and I was pulling for the doctors to pull Renee out of it, like Jack's daughter swooped in and saved him at the end of last season. And I loved how the first situation that Chloe came upon, she figured out what might have happened.
I can't wait for Jack to off Logan for all the losses Jack's had to endure including his most recent betrayal. I hope he shoots out the glass in a high window and "invites" Logan to jump. Jack walks away as President Taylor is explaining she asked Jack to bring in Logan for treason. His "suicide" will be a surprise.
The end: Chloe vs. Dana!!!!!!!! to protect Jack's life/grandchild . . . you name it!!
seeing jack barefoot and emotionally lost in a hospital was heartbreaking. Where does he go after this day ends? He's lost almost everybody he's ever loved (thank God Kim and her daughter are still alive, or else he would be catatonic). It will be interesting to see how (and if) he comes out of this.
I am an adult male 44 years old watching it with my 16 year old son. I was literally screaming at the TV begging them not to shoot Renee. I was yelling no, no you cant kill her dont do that to Jack.... This season has been a rollercoaster ride. Doesnt it feel like the Russian arms dealer stuff was eons ago?
I look to Jack really going rogue these last few episodes...and yes hopefully that includes Charles Logan taking one between the eyes...kudos to Gregory Itzin for playing him so well
My sentiments EXACTLY kaye. I've watched Jack lose 5 love-interests throughout the seasons, and I was really disappointed that the 24 writers decided to also kill Renee, whom I considered to be Jack's perfect soul mate, partner, and last chance for love and happiness. I was so happy to see Jack finally find love again, and to have it ripped away, especially after only discovering it, was such a waste. Renee's character was such a great addition, and her and Jack's budding relationship was an intriguing and endearing part of the season. Her death was absolutely unnecessary for the story line. She could have lived, and Jack could have used just the attack as the necessary 'fuel' to drive his revenge in true Jack fashion. At the end, I can't believe Jack and Renee won't be together. It really sucks that Jack will always be alone. Boo, you 24 writers!
Jack is going to kick major butt now.
Finally they get rid off Renee, it was about time, now who's next?
I am sure now Jack will go back in the Dark side, where we like him to be; totally out of control, and in madness someone in the government will try to take him out, but mighty Jack out for revenge against everybody will finally kill em all blowing himself up with an explosive vest in the final minute, that will take down half of the city.
If the writers are audacious enough they will make it an higly explosive underwear.
PS the movie will be flashback after Jack is in pieces
Just 3 words from Jack:
NOW IT'S PERSONAL !!!!
I have been a 24 fan since day one!! Every episode is an adrenalin high. I am actually out of breath at times after watching.
So.....
CHLOE POWER....TO MORE BAUER'S JUSTICE(revenge)....and DANA...well, I just can't wait to see her little smirk obliterated right off her pointy little face!!! As it pertains to Bauer's daughter and son-in-law....you never know how this show will spin being the season finally and all....hmmmm!
i was devasted that Renee got killed off...i would have liked her and Jack to be a couple or that it end as them leaving the show as a couple. I am so disappointed that this show is going to end...i have been a devoted '24' fan since the beginning. there are no other shows that can compare to this one leaving you on pins and needles waiting for the next one. all i can say is 'excellent excellent'
To Tim in DC: My fiance said the same thing about Tim Woods – it seems too good to be true with Chole running CTU, although I love the fact that she is . . . that's my girl! Do not trust Charles Logan – such a snake! Finally, President Taylor is developing some balls . . . or is it too late?lol I knew something was up with the Russian; he was too eager for the peace agreement to fail; I wouldn't be surprise if Dana was hired by the Russians. So sorry that Renee is gone; I was hoping Jack can finally have some peace. At least she got some before she died . . . with a smile on her face!
I'm so sad that Renee's gone...I'm not watching anymore. Its a great show but they kill off all the good people and leave the annoying characters behind.
🙁
I am devastated that the show is even going to end! I don't understand why a show that is obviously enjoyed by many should have to end....why not get rid of a crazy sitcom and keep the drama of 24. It makes me want to scream........I really enjoy watching this show and now I won't have anything to watch!!! This show is one of many taken off air in a long list of greats taken away from us!
Keifer Sutherland for the Emmy!
exceelent
I absolutely hope that NBC will pick up 24, it is one of the best, should NOT be taken off air. The entire cast is marvelous/extremely talented, they can/would still keep each episode thrilling. There are too many really lame shows coming on recently – WHY take a wonderful exciting show away from people who can hardly wait for the next episode and/or the next season. I can not believe (Keifer) Jack really doesn't want to stay with the show – he was so believable last night – the emotion was overwhelming – marvelous performance.
I feel that Renee's death happened so quickly, almost too quickly...almost like they didn't want us to have a chance to digest and decipher what was going on. I have a remote feeling as well that she may not be dead...
Most of my thoughts already said. Liked the prediction that Mrs. Hassan organized the coup; would be an out of nowhere twist, but would explain her "need" to get out of NYC early in the day. The timing seems more like "I don't want to be here if/when that bomb goes off" than "I'm leavng my womanizing (like it's a surprise) husband at THIS point of history?"
Predict that Jack will get the guy and, seeing no way to have peace in his life, will reluctantly accept the head of CTU gig only because Pres. Taylor asks him and Jack has never been able to refuse a president whom he respects. Chloe will go back to what she loves and does best, but with a lot more juice in the system.
Replacing Hastings in the middle of this day makes no practical sense, but that's 24 for you.
Also predict that the granddaughter comes into play in a negative way. Jack will save her, but Kim will blame her father for putting the kid in harm's way and that will be the last straw that leaves Jack with no option but to return to CTU.
The real stumper to me is what happens to that parole officer? His role is not done, even if he is really dead. I've said all along that we have no proof that he really is a P.O.
Renee isn't dead – my theory.
President Taylor isn't done "making changes". She started with installing Chloe as acting head of CTU - anybody figure what else she has in mind? Several commenters have said that Jack is in line to be head of CTU - I agree since his critics have pretty much been eliminated and Pres. Taylor loves him. Just don't know if he can suffer an emotional breakdown, go on a rogue rampage, save the world, and then get a government job. Incredible acting all around last night!!!
I need Jack to be the cold blooded killer working for all things right and exterminating evil-doers, not schmoozing it up with some psychotic love interest in some penthouse apartment with 10 foot see-through windows....Jeeezzz...
Jacks needs no love interest – once Terri was killed, that angle should have been dropped. The love-interests are distractions that weaken his judgement and get in the way of shooting the bad in the head.
I really can't wait for him to beat Dana into some pulp. And you know it is coming.
Hooray for Chloe – She needs to raise a little hell in there and slap Arlo silly for all his snide remarks and leering.
We now are going to see Bauer at his finest – doing what he knows how to do so well – kill evil-doers.
Is "Rampage" the correct word to describe what Jack will do the next 6 hours to make things right and ride into the sunset to be with once PIA Kim and family. My son and me used the word devastated when Renee went down. Jack's a single kinda guy.
Keifer Sutherland ROCKS as an actor! It will be a shame to see
24 end.
I am completely rung out after the endings of the last 2 weeks. The drama has been incredible. However, Jack's personal body-count has been fairly low this season. With Jack beyond the breaking point its ballistic Bauer next week. I am still very disappointed that Freddie Prinze Jr. has not had better material this season. What a waste of talent. There was a glimmer last night that he and Jack would yet finish the details, so I am somewhat hopeful. I really hate Logan. I feel like the writers backed themselves into a wall and decided to resurrect the baddest of the baddies thats still alive. Bring back Aaron! Bring back Tony! After all these years it was great to see Jack in the sack AND he almost had a cup of coffee too!
From the very first of the season when the daughter, son-in-law and grandaughter were on the show I have suspected the son-in-law as being involved in something shady that will involve Jack.
There's an interview with Howard Gordon on EW.com. http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2010/04/13/24-renee-jack-shocker/
I don't know whether it makes me mad that they planned for Renee to die at the beginning of the series. And I guess I can give up my fantasy that she's not actually dead. 🙁
I am sad to see Renee gone but I wouldn't expect anything less than her ultimate death. This show is merciless and completely without sentimentality. Any other show would have wounded her, saved her, let them live happily ever after – and it would have been the climax of the entire season. This show is just one punch to the gut after another and that what makes it one of the best ever.
this season started off solid, turned pretty awful and has finally picked back up again. NO ONE cares about dana walsh or anything going on with her, the less she is in the show the better (did anyone else notice the stark difference in her facial expressions after we found out she was dirty? she all of a sudden turned on the evil eye, i thought it was honestly quite hysterical). i dont really know how i feel about chloe taking over, i feel like one of the reasons we love her so much is because shes been the unlikely hero – as the head of ctu, those quirky things about her aren't as endearing anymore. we'll see though.
and yea i agree with kaye – renee dying was unnecessary. jack has had enough stuff happen to him as is, and renee was a very strong character who only got stronger as time went on. not to mention, this twist happened already (albeit in different form so to speak) when jack lost his wife in the first season. would have been nice to have renee around.
I am sad that Renee is gone but i feel like it makes sense for the plot.
I hated the show but loved it for the very reasons I hated it.
I hated that Renée died. Really did. I don't know how much one guy is supposed to endure. NO FAIR. But there's gonna be payback I'm sure and I hope the writiers of 24 make it good! You know Jack's gonna take out a few people who deserve it and hopefully with his bare hands!
On the flip side, great show for some great ladies who can definitely teach a few guys some tricks. Go Mrs. Hassan (hopefully doesn't go the way of Mrs. Bhutto) and wow Chloe! So competent and so deserving of the promotion.
I was completely shocked that Renee bit the bullet.. I guess the writers have decided to go out with a bang. Kudos to Chole but dang she could have least had a full season of her being in charge. My vote is that 24 comes back next year. Last but not least just say NO to Logan!!!!
Renee's gone! So not fair!!!
@Scoutkraft the probation officers body cant stink by now since he died about 6hrs ago and the show ends in another 6hrs. Decomposition sets in after 48hrs way after the show is over :o)
At least Jack won't have to worry about losing any thumbs
There have been a number of people who commented about NBC picking it up. It wasn't their decision to stop the show after this season. It was the show's producer, Kiefer, and few others who decided that it had run its course.
since I had read that a movie of "24" was going to be made, I was hoping it would be with BOTH Jack and Renee since they look so good together, have the spark and work well together. Jack deserves somewhat of a normal love life. That was shot with the sniper bullets. Too bad!
I also think that if there is ever another James Bond movie, Keifer should be the Man. Love him!
Also i was thinking maybe Rene is not really dead...Lets not forget how we all thought Tony was dead but he came back with his own agenda
Is Renee really dead??? I am thinking not. Why would all the doctors and nurses leave a room and not cover the dead body.. something is up in typical 24 style... Can't wait to see the end
Renees death opens the door for Chloe and Jack. Chloe loves him deeply. Did you see her smile for the first time last night at the mention of Jacks name?
And when is the Probation officers body going to start stinking up CTU?
So sad for Jack, but I was happy to see him finally be able to at least lie down for a few minutes, get a drink. One oddly poignant scene for me was Jack sitting there at the end, bloodied shirt, pants and bare feet. For some reason, his bare feet got to me.
I was very annoyed to see the only black character written off! I didn't care for Hastings, but he was the ONLY black character on the show.
Now i do believe Chloe should run CTU, but they should bring in another black character to make this show interesting to black viewers. They got ORTIZ although he is not even hispanic, but no african americans.... BOOOOO!!!!!!
Let me throw this out there – Renee isn't dead. Her death was faked to protect her while searching for the connection to her prior case. Also helps motivate Jack to help out a little longer...
Holy Cow! How can Renee die!? In the end her and Jack were supposed to ride off into the sunset together. Enter Logan and his slimy prowess for treason. Shouldn't he be hanging from the gallows by now? I don't know, maybe we will see him and Dana Walsh holding hands together as they are both done away with. I like this line from a well known movie,"terminate with extreme prejudice". Unfortunately, there are six more days until we see what happens next on 24. Thank you writers for making Chloe head of CTU! She is "hot" in a geeky sort of way. Who knows maybe Arlo will save us all!
I can't wait until next Monday night. Until then all 24 fans have a great week!
it was a sad episode i honestly did not think Rene would die this soon....looks like the Russians are really up to something lets see if Logan can fix this or make matters worse with the Russians....looks like the next 6 hours are going to be really intense and interesting....one thing also if im right didnt Jack trick one of the Russians in season 5 wen he gave them a Memory Card with information of all the agents that U.S had in Russia in exchange for one of the lady terrorist he was investigating but the memory card self destructed wen the Russian activate it. Maybe this is payback for Jack doing them wrong.
Anybody thinks Renee isn't dead? Anybody think it's being faked to get the assassin to go after Jack so he can whoop his A$$? Me neither, just wishful thinkging.
I can see it right now, Jack & Chloe lives happily ever after.
Logan will escape to Russia.
Mrs. Hassan will die, the daughter takes over.
Great episode. Probably the best this year. Never expected Renee to die. While I felt she was a female version of Jack Bauer or possibly could be, she was without a doubt a great addition to the show. I had hoped to see her in the movie.
My thought is that if Jack does die in the movie, which I doubt, because if they are smart, there will be more than one movie. But if he dies, someone we least expect will be the one to kill him.
I'll miss this show next year...
Great show as always on the edge of the seat waiting for next week go get them Jack
has anybody thought that Renee is not dead? That maybe it's being faked to draw out the assassin to Jack? I don't think so either...just wishful thinking...
I'm glad that they finally killed Renee, she was annoying..
Is this show written by monkeys? How many twist and turns can there be till there is no logic or believability to the story?
Apparently Americans have no need for intelligent entertainment .
Next week Jack turns out to be a god and resurrects Renee as a giant sea lizard who eats the nuclear material and farts radioactive fire balls at the terrorists who are actuality Fox News personalities in disguise, barely.
Drogues are in the air. Drogues are in the air. Please kill me now.
Are you kidding me??? Give Jack a rest. Jack is 24. Get a SEAL or a detective? Just watch another show.
Are you serious about giving up the show for Renee? Renee was like his other love interests, except for Terry ,as someone else pointed out. Mentioning Terry last night reminded us of his unique connection to her and our connection to her in the first season.
How could you give up Chloe's smarts now recognized (Didya see the other CTU workers' expressions at the announcement?), more Russians, President Logan (! or ?), Jack's revenge, and the utter destruction of Dana?
Jack is never going to go off into the sunset . He's wired for strategizing, vengeance, and action. The rest of us can be grandmas and grandpas. We watch Jack because he's far from a grandpa figure. He'll end up happy 'cause much as he thinks he'd like to head out for Kim and California, he'd die of boredom.
Fantastic shows in the last two weeks.
i love "24" and have for years, but you wanna see gripping moments on television?? watch the episode 'What Makes Sammy Run' on TNT's "Southland". If that doesn't grip you, you have no soul.
Awesome, awesome show. Agree with Tesleen above that Jack's granddaughter getting kidnapped would be potential plot line. Also suspect that Hassan's wife will be whacked too, leaving daughter in charge. Am so sad 24 is ending, but Keifer was hospitalized recently with kidney problem, and he must be getting burned out by the stresses of constant filming. I'm guessing that is why they are cancelling the show.
To everyone concerned about the probation officer in the duct work, and when people will notice a smell:
"In the absence of embalming or relatively rapid cremation, the body putrefies. The first sign of putrefaction is a greenish skin discoloration appearing on the right lower abdomen about the second or third day after death. This coloration then spreads over the abdomen, chest, and upper thighs and is usually accompanied by a putrid odor. Sulphur-containing intestinal gas and a breakdown product of red blood cells produce both the color and smell."
I know it's not a pretty thought. However, the guy has only been dead a couple of hours, and the spaces are likly keps cool for the sake of all the computer equipment inside the building. Therefore, there just hasn't been enough time for the smell to occur.
My husband and I rarely watch t.v. But, for the last two years we have planned Monday night as our "date night" with Jack Bauer. It's been such fun for us to get our minds off the normal serious situations we deal with every day, him counseling broken marriages and people and me working with special needs 8th graders. Instead, we can vicariously live out real crisis that affect the whole world.
We wish the series wouldn't end. We wish, if it does, Jack can live happily ever after with a woman he loves who doesn't get killed. We wish for an end to terrorist threats but if there is, we wish for a person like Jack to save the day.
Thanks to everyone who made this show great. We'll always remember our Monday nights with Jack.
Katie said..."Why did they have to kill Renee??? Why? Why?? Why??? Doesn't Jack deserve even an ounce of happiness??? Come on! It's the last season, why couldn't they give Jack a happy ending??????"
Um, I think Jack got a happy ending, moments before Renee got shot! 🙂
When I cannot take my eyes off the televison for 1 second in fear that I will miss a crucial moment.. that's the 24 I LOVE!
Okay. We knew as soon as Jack kissed Renee that she was going to die–THIS IS 24! Chloe –head of CTU –WOW! but only temporary. Jack is going back -He will probably be asked to head CTU–Chloe is a genius –but only with Jack in Lead . and --WE STILL HAVE NOT SEEN THE BRAIN–THE SUPERVILLAIN–might be Jack's dad !
Where is Tony? If Logan is back –anybody can come back ! But I love to hate this guy so –I'm good. This is classic 24 –the show of shows is back!
Considering how weakly the show started this season, the last few wks have really been a pleasant surprise. It may note be season 5 good, but at least its not last season bad either.
It was a bit of a stretch having Logan be in a conference room within 4 minutes of Koenan suggesting Logan be given a call. Did he just happen to be doing a morning jog around the U.N. or something? A bit ridiculous. Some of those moments really show how hard it is to do a show in real time and, for the most part, make it realistic.
Go get 'em Chloe!
Why did they have to kill Renee??? Why? Why?? Why??? Doesn't Jack deserve even an ounce of happiness??? Come on! It's the last season, why couldn't they give Jack a happy ending??????
HATED IT...Absolutely HATED IT. I am not sure I will watch the rest of the season. Now that they killed off Renee, the only thing left for Jack to do is go totally martyr-Rambo and get himself killed off too. And, honestly, I really dont care to see that happen. There is always too much gloom in 24. How about leaving us viewers feeling happy about the 8 Seasons of 24...with a strong desire to see it on the Big Screen. Why can't Jack have some long awaited happiness after all he's been through. Killing Renee was outrageous and unnecessary. I don't get it and neither does anyone else I've spoken with. We're all left very disappointed and uninspired to view the rest of the episodes...As far as I am concerned, Season 8 ended last night.
renee dying hurt. besides jack she was my favorite, the way i felt when she rose off the bed and was on her way to tell jack i yelled stop don't go.......it hurt so badly, jack once again let his guard down and someone close to him died.
as far as Chole taking over for Hastings, the first few hours i would of been the happiest girl possible, however i am still happy chole can shine, but over the past few hours Hastings has rubbed off on me and I began to trust his word.
i am all for Mrs. Hassan!!
Jack's face at the end was the face of a lost puppy, mixed with guilt...so raw and full of every emotion possible...i felt for him!!!! which sounds stupid sense this is a TV show but it felt real.
Loved it
Incredibly good episode. You could tell by the look in his eyes (past the emotion over losing Renee) that Jack has decided somebody is gonna pay...Bauer style! I can seen the next couple of episodes bringing back the old Jack and his tried and true methods to extract information from people (look out Dana Walsh...). Also, since "someone" from division is supposed to be coming to take over CTU from Chloe, who can that be? Michelle is dead, Bill is dead, Tony is in jail...
How about Karen Hayes? Aaron Pierce?
GREAT SHOW ! We know know Jack is going to taking revenge and not even the President can stop him. Glad he finally got laid too ! That boy needed it to bad that Rene got wacked but hopefully she will be seen again on another show. She is hot !!!
It was too bad that Renee was not wearing a bulelt proof jacket or somehow she surviv? I was hoping that all's well that ends well, the traditional ending of finally the good guy, Jack find his true love again with Jack and Renee together live happily forever and ever until the next episode.
It is becoming too depressing.....
I completely agree with the comments about how well done the scene was when Jack could not believe that Renee was dead. BUT, I also loved the shot just prior to that when Jack was sitting in the waiting area, barefoot and looking as lost and innocent as I have ever seen him. It is a personality trait we have never seen on the show, and the timing to reveal this side of him could not have been better, especially after he had just emotionally opened up in bed with Renee. Great job, writers, director and Kiefer!
I hate Fox for what they did to last night's episode. I'm not sure about anybody else, but I saw this coming from the time the assisan was on the phone with Russian deligate. With their TV ads proclaiming "one of the most shocking moments of the season" and showing the asassing firing out the window....for me, it took the ALL of the drama and suspense of that away, I wanted to throw something.
As for the impact on the show. I hated that too. We've seen Jack's wife murdered...and his girlfriend have a mental breakdown...his daughter kidnapped (repetedly)...his best friend turn on him. These things happen every season, and I'm pretty much numb to that now. Yes, they needed a way to keep him in the show, he was done, Renee was saved from prosecution, he fulfilled his obligation to CTU, but there had to be another way. Now it looks like he'll be pulling the stunts of season 1 (looks like he's gonna help Dana escape so she can lead him to the russians). It's stale...this whole story line. I'm as big of a fan of the show as there, have defended it whole heartedly, and probably completely blindly from the beginning...now with 6 episodes left, I'm losing my faith.
OMG!! Last night was a nail bitter!! I can't believe that Renee is actually dead, she was Bauers "ACE" – I agree, his emotions almost made me cry. First he couldn't save Presiden Hassan and now he lost the love of his life. BUMMER!! Chloe!! That's my gurl!! I'm so glad she's in charge she deserves that promo!!
Logan!! Logan!! – I have no words! I'm sure he has something up his sleeve that will be shocking. I wonder what he has on the Russians that he's so confident that they will sign the peace agreement.
I'm also glad that Dana Walsh wasn't presented last night. She was an irritant to me when finding out that she worked with the terrorist.
My mouth was wide open the whole hour, I'm surprised I didn't dribble.
I can't wait for the next weeks to come. I'm upset that now we have so many turns of events taking place that we will no longer see Bauer and the crew on the television screen but I will guarentee that I will be in the movie theatures everytime it comes out.
Mke,
Geez, can't believe I didn't think of that, they might put Jack back in charge of CTU. After all they did say Chloe was in charge until they found someone. Can't believe I missed that, but will all the other stuff easy to see. And that would make sense, Start the Movie the way they started the Show, with Jack in Charge!
@ Cinders: I said last week that I thought Renee was working with the Russians. I guess only time will tell if we are right.
And now for the remaining 6 hours left in Jack's horrendous day, we get to watch him have "Bauer moments." Dana will be one of them. And hoping upon hope...Logan won't be left out. Let the body count begin!!!
great show last night ! Glad Renee got kiled. I couldn't stand her last season, and this season when she got psycho on us. I have a feeling, that she got killed for a reason, especially since she mentioned some file to Chloe. I think Renee was working with the Russians. Chloe is still my fav – she'll be scowling even more, now that she is in power!
time 4 Jack 2 Bauer up & get back to basics...interogating Dana the old Jack way 2 get some answers...istill don't trust Arlo, there's something fishy about that kid...and don't get me started on Logan, can't trust him 4 anything...he's involved somehow. they wouldn't have brought him back if he wasn't pivotal 2 the plot...hopefully Jack will cap a bullet in him during the finale or the opening scene of the movie...LOL
jack will not die in the movie. He will spend a lot of time with daughter and granddaughter.....and be called back in when they make movie 2....
I am sad at the loss of Renee. She had become a character in many ways equal to Jack. I wish she could have been in the movie version. My wife and I loved her courage and unending patriotism and looked forward to seeing her in each episode.
Too bad they can't bring her back to life somehow.
My thoughts; Ultimate plot twist? Mrs. Hassan in bed with Charles Logan. both behind it all. What alot of you season 8 haters thinking the show has declined fail to realize is we have all been addicted to our prescription of 24 every week. Like all powerful drugs they have the highs early in the addiction and then you just have to take it week after week to stray 'normal.' 24 set new limits for TV and raised the bar so high that we've become tolerant to our addiction needing bigger and bigger doses to feel the same as we did 8 yrs ago. Compared to other shows 24 is still high water mark and pulling plug just because people are showing signs of tolerance is mistake. Go Chloe. Jack's gonna be really back now. Tick Tock Mr. Bauer, you've only got 6 more hrs on TV to thrill us. Thanks for the best show in the last 8 yrs.
WHY DOES RENEE HAD TO DIE? JACK DESERVES SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL TO HAPPEN WITH HIS LIFE. dAUGHTER AND GRAND DAUGHTER ARE GOOD BUT WITH RENEE IT IS PERSONAL./
I posted my first comment too quickly. I predict Jack WILL die at the end of the show and that is why the movie will be a prequel detailing everything that happened before CTU that made him the complex character he is.
Have never been a fan of 24 in the past – though my niece and her husband have been diehards from the very 1st season, and tried to convince me to watch. This season, I somehow got hooked and the show has been great. Can hardly wait till the next week's episode. i hope Dana gets the smirk wiped off her face; Glad someone finally realized Chloe's worth; but I don't think Renee had to die. That was very disappointing. Admire President Taylor, but don't think she should place alot of hope in Logan fixing the "problem". He should be shot! You can tell just by looking at him what a dirtbag he is. Don't think a movie would even compare with the series. I just hope there is another one next year! Probably not, but we can hope, can't we?
I knew Renee was going to die from the beginning of the season, but I kept hoping it would not happen. Yes, Jack's expressions after he found out were amazing. He is a great actor! I wish she wouldn't have because I wanted them both to have happiness, but this is 24, and the people you love do die. It was a great, but sad show.
I think the only people on the planet that are safe from Jack's "justice" are Chloe and the president. Everybody else stay out of the way or DIE! Jack is on a MISSION and he WILL make thing right in his own way. Go get'm Jack and show no mercy!! Last night when they cut to jack after the dr told him Renee didn't make it was one of the best, most emotionally charged scenes in all of television. This man who is thrown into all these different impossible situations and gets the impossible done without feelings(for the most part) just had his world and his future taken away from him and he showed that it hurt. We never see him hurt emotionally. Chilling, scarry, and moving all at the same time. I have to admit my eyes started watering a little.
On to other things: Way to go Chloe! Was hoping you'd get your shot, hope you can keep the position, but I would think the president would ask Jack to take over after this crisis is over with Cole as his "Jack" and Arlo and Chloe running the data. (Just a thought).
Dana, gone forever? Lord I hope so, just a horrible side plot. Have Cole put 2 in her chest and 1 in her head and move on.
Can't wait for next week... HELL YEAH!
COPY THAT?
Renee has a nice rack. Sorry to see it go away.
Glad this 24 hours of what amounts to car-chase-scene variations will soon be over. Ugh.
I predict that the 24 movie will be a prequel – there is so much to know about Jack before he started at CTU!
What could end the series better than a good ole' fashioned blood-fueled rampage? All in all, great episode. Upcoming movie? Sweeeet.
It would have been nice to see Jack and Renee walk off into the sunset together! Maybe in the Movie! Jack's face reminded me of the movie the 'Lost Boys' when he died at the end; he looked like a little boy! I also won 40 bucks because I said last season that they would hook up! Score for me!
Sir Lord, that would be AWESOME...messssed up, but AWESOME!
This season finally has the feel of the first three seasons.
Last nights show was excellent. It should be good to see Logan and Jack team up against the Russians. Go Chloe!!
RIP Renee. That was just so sad and unnecessary. 🙁
I loved the episode until the writers F'd it all up and needlessly killed Renee. Her character had grown into a perfect foil and complement to everything Jack is/was. Outside of Jack's wife, Renee was the only person that could truly relate to and understand Jack.
she was way more than a potential love interest for Jack – she was his one ray of light when all else was already lost. To take that away from Jack, especially in the ridiculous, cold hearted way they did last night, was a slap in the face to Jack and a STAB in the back to the fans.
As far as I'm concerned, the writers ruined a perfect season, and tore the heart out of the show in one motion.
Last night was another great episode. This season has been off the charts. I knew Renee was going to get it AFTER the sniper had Jack in his sights and didn't take the shot. Renee was the one that could recognize him, so she had to go. It was still sad to see Jack's one moment of happiness turn into such a tragedy. But that's Jack....dude is cursed. The only happiness he will ever be allowed is when he stops the bad guys.
I agree that NBC should pick up the show. Freddie Prinze Jr is a little Jack in the making. Plus, I think his acting has been on point. He could carry lead for the show. And who doesn't love Chloe being in charge??
Come on, can Jack have a little more than just a few stolen moments of happiness? Renee did not have to die, it was really unnecessary! Renee was more than a love interest, she was an assist, A KICK-ASS ASSIST!
Bad Writers!!!!!!
Dana, along with the military leader and the advisor, should all be charged with treason and found guilty. The penalty is death! Kill them! Why are we seeing Dana in this again? Her deal was about Hassan. If he didn't live, her deal was off. So charge her and execute her already!
These are my opinions
1) Great episode
2) Chloe "YOU GO GIRL!!!" She will step up to the plate now that she has to.
3) Dana is definitly working for the Russians
4) Logan is looking for revenge and Pres. Taylor's honor will be tarnished
5) Renee would have made a good match for Jack before she went nuts, glad she is out, Jack didn't need to baby sit her
6) Hastings will be called back in for something but I'm not quite sure what, remember he told Chloe he is avalilable to her if she needs something
7) Possible kidnapping of Kim and the grand daughter to rollover into the new movie
Sad to see my two favorite shows(24 & Lost) ending in the same season!
I have to agree that the look on Jack's face packed alot of emotions and you could share the pain. But Jack being cursed, I wasn't too surprised to see Renee go.
In the last 6 hours, I see friction between Jack and Chloe as he'll be pushing her to do stuff she won't be ready to now that she's in charge. The old duo's friendship will be tested!
@ Linda: You remind me of Aunt Selma in The Simpson's; MacGiver will never be yours, move on. Renee was the perfect fit as she understands all the madness he's been through, not you.
I love the episode, but they played pretty loose with the time thing. I mean, how did Jack get to the hospital in that kind of traffic in, like, 5 minutes?? Even before that, in a snap he and Renee were in his apartment for a little sugar. How did they get there so fast? And is Jack really a 2-minute man??? All in all, though, another incredible episode.
I cannot believe last night's show! You are dead on with numbers 2 and 1. Only 6 hours left people – let's make the best of a really bad situation!
Poor Rene...really don't think it was necessary to take yet another loved one away from this poor guy. My only consolation is that maybe now Jack can return to his crazy, raged out, completely unchained self and go down in a blaze of glory during the final 6 hours. This is where he was at his best in the first few seasons; the reason we all get hooked. I hope the writers let him just fly without restraint and be the completely uncontrollable character that we all latched onto. It will be a shame if they keep him penned up after this relatively unnecessary tragedy.
How about a storyline twist as such:
President Taylor (on the phone), " Is she (Renee) out of the hospital yet?"
Prez's ass't:, " They've just wheeled her out."
Prez," Good, maybe now I can get Jack back on the job! Get Renee out of sight for the duration of what what is about to unfold; I can't have her distract him until this mission is accomplished; he's too involved!"
Just a thought or two; my two pennies worth!
Glad to see Renee go – she was not for Jack and now they could bring back the one who was...Audrey! Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't we have a happy ending for Jack?
Loved Chloe finally getting her chance to shine and now Jack has the support he needs!
In my opinion the 2 most action packed shows ever on Fox was "Prison Break" and "24", and now unless another network picks up the action packed "24" the only thing we will have in the future is the planned movie of "24" unless they kill Jack Bauer off, as they did Michael Scofield in the hit show "Prison Break", Renee being killed was a shocker as just the week before Annie Wersching was on Regis and Kelly live explaining how she wishes her charector makes it to end up in the movie,,,,hmmm now i wonder was she giving a clue as to her upcoming death on the show. every week the hour goes by so fast. and Cloe being appointed head of CTU, i even lifted my glass of beer toasting her, bout time she got the recoginition she deserves, hope the last few hours she kicks ass. and Dana, oh you know jacks going to rip her aprt............well until next week...lets all contemplates what may and may not happen.............."you know your living today as jack did not kill you yesterday".......Bigrigdriver229@yahoo.com
(1) The scene with Logan more than made up for all the Dana Walsh crap we've endured. I was howling through the entire thing. Itzin rocks!!!
(2) Cannot believe Renee's did... Yes, I love Bauer, but didn't realize how much until they killed her off. Really didn't think they'd kill off yet another of his few true loves... Finally thought they'd allow him a measure of sustained happiness...
The last thing 24 needs is for NBC to touch it. It would be ruined. And people are fools for advocating the show to go on without Jack. 6 more hours. Then a movie. It doesn't need to overstay its welcome.
Jackie-o,
The most recent episodes of 24 can be watched free on http://www.hulu.com
I'm glad they didn't turn renee out to be the bigger mole w/ the russians. That would of been tragic for bauer to go threw again.. at least Bauer can get even w/ them.
Tony Lee Dow (born April 13, 1945). Happy Birthday, Wally. 65-years old today. Are we all getting old, or what?
great series, They do have some of the best bad guys. Mark this! I would have agreed with jack dying at the end , but it makes more sense that he will be shot and the story end. When you go to see the movie you, and you will, you will find out if and how he lives!
LEXUS97, Jack doesnt have emotions? Are you nutz?!!! Of course he does! If he didnt, he would be the man he is....love of his daughter, his grand child, his COUNTRY. If was withou emotion he wouldnt risk it all season after season, because he would give a d*mn!!!
Renee had to die! Every since the dfirst hour, main characters have been dropping left and right. Why should she be any different? My only regret is that Dana didn't go first!
Has anyone forgotten that Dana and Cole were involved in a double murder. Now that Dana is in custody will the murder come up in regards to the parole officer or is this something that is swept under the table. If the show is going to end it is too late in the season to start bringing back old cast members but they could have left Logan out in cold, don't trust his style of smile in your face and when you blink stab you in the back. What a sour turn, Jack finally makes love to someone with hopes of it being memorable and instead Renee is killed and he hasn't had enough time to take a shower. Hurry up Monday night.
Richard Bartlett “Ricky” Schroder, Jr. (born April 13, 1970). Happy Birthday, Ricky. 40-years old today. Are we all getting old, or what?
An absolutely wonderful show both last night and throughout the past years. I will completely and totally miss the best and only show on television that I religously watch. Though I was very sad about the way that it ended for Renee, we all knew that it was coming. For Jack to truly be happy w/someone throughout the rest of the day was not in the cards; never has been for Jack. I'm happy that it will come down to the Russians being the bad guys, as ex-prez Logan surely will be in for some type of a** kicking before the end of the season. I have seen every episode of 24 since it began and, though I'm looking forward to this season's last 6 hours, and very unhappy that it is going off the air. Still, I'm happy that I'll be able to relive earlier 24 days via DVD. Peace!
Everytime Jack get's a woman, she get killed. Just stay single man!
Has this man suffered enough?! I admit, i couldnt stand Renee, but I did not think it necessary to kill her off!!! The guy has already lost and suffered so much...
I'm happy to see Renee go. I didn't understand why the writers that she was so important to come back this season. As any "REAL 24 FAN" you should know that "Anything Jack touches dies"- hello people you knew it was coming!
Chloe as the new CTU Chief, seriously?! Chloe is great but – to be running CTU and having Jack in the field voluntarily-seems too far-fetched.
Ok, so Jack will/or will not reunite with daughter/granddaughter at the end of this whole season? What was family uniting to move to LA. Again, unnecessary storyline, his daughter has been gone for so long- I could care less about their strained relationship now.
I can't wait for Logan and Russian plan blow up in the face of the current President. Dana is being paid off by these very people, they set this scheme up from the very beginning – I just know it.
Note: Is anyone going to find the probation officers dead body before the season is over? I would hate to think no one was looking fo rthis dude or started smelling a foul order. LOL
As I think about it, maybe they said 6 EPISODES left, and not 6 HOURS. The finale is always a 2 hour show. Maybe that is why there is some confusion going on.
regarding renee getting shot... i thought the sniper was told not to do anything until further orders? but immediately when renee was on the phone w/ chloe the guy shoots her. what did i miss? did he have the room bugged? still think it was the best show of the season...!
I've only been watching 24 for the last two seasons (love the show), but I don't know anything about Logan. But, I can tell just from his short talk with Prez Taylor last night that he is not to be trusted. The scene where Mrs Hassan told Kayla to stop sniveling and step it up was excellent. Sorry about Renee, but can't wait to see Jack pursue his "justice". What an awesome show, and what an extremely talented group of actors. I'll be sad when the show ends.
Its sad that Renee died, and Chloe at the helms of CTU is good. But what if chloe herself is a mole? This is 24 remember no one is to be trusted except Jack
Ok so I love the show but I do NOT understand taking out Renee. To me, it was gluttonous agaony for Jack. WE GET IT! Life's hard for him, crap happens all the time and he has to get involved. I thought the missed opportunity to go be with his granddaughter in LA made the "Woe is Jack" point enough. This is just gratuitous! They have 6 hours to go. Put her in a coma for that long or something if you need extra motivation for Jack. (Which you don't! He has plenty already) But killing her??? It really angered and dispappointed this 24 viewer. Why, at the end of it all, can't Jack have one thing to be happy about? That is why, if there wasn't a movie coming, I would be sure they were killing him off.
Please writers! You've haven't needed things to make complete sense so far this year, so find a way to bring her back!
Awesome 24 episode!! I can't imagine TV w/o "24". I have been a fan since day 1, hour 1 and no other show has kept my attention through the "great & not so good" as this incredible show.
Jack is the man!!! I want him to be happy and in love but that takes away from his character. He won't ride off into the sunset when his job is complete-he needs to go down in a blaze of glory (if they plan on just one movie?) No one can replace him and there should not be a spin off.
I figure there are only a handful of shows that are really outstanding and worth wasting an hour or so every week on and "24" is in that handful! Breaks my heart to think it's almost over!
This was one of the best episodes of the season. I was disappointed to see Renee go, as I was hoping that Jack would finally have something good happen (besides having his daughter and granddaughter is his life).
As much as I am unsure about how I feel about Hastings being removed, I am thrilled to see Chloe put in charge. I have loved her character from the beginning, and it is nice to see her accompishments recognized up the chain.
During last nights episode (during a break) I'm pretty sure that it was stated that there are 6 hours left. However, like "JR Bauer", my count is at 17 hours gone, so there should be 7 left. The more the better I say. It will be sad to see the show end. I don't know what I will do with my Monday evenings now.
You nailed everything. My wife refuses to watch because of her high blood pressure. She simply cannot take it. I Love It!!!!
A better question might be "Why are you still watching 24?"!
I love 24! Renee took one for Jack. Yes I agree they should have had the blinds so the sniper should not shoot at them. Well Now that Renee is dead! I hope Jack beats up the Russian Sniper. "He always says, I am going to Kill that person who ever did that. " 24 the Movie? Wow! Chole is great a C.T.U. I wish there was a way not to get disturbed during the show? I don't have my own head phones. I need a sign that says "Show in Progress". Do not talk. I rarely go to the movies, I will wait till its on Netflix .
Dana is being paid by the Russians. She's the only remaining tie (beyond the sniper) to the Russian plot. Dana's remaining silent because CTU can't protect her and the full breadth of the conspiracy has yet to be uncovered. Logan is also aware of the plot, and is attempting to leverage his ability to cover up the plot in exchange for certain favors.
Last night was vintage 24...with all its twists, turns and shocks. It was sad that Renee died, but hey – how many of you were there at the final episode of season one (I was!) when Jack's wife was killed in the last minute...It's the way the series has stayed fresh – they are not afraid to kill off major sympathetic characters.
This show is awesome!! Every week is like a season finale cliff hanger!!!
my fellow 24'ers were on the edge of our seat last night! after a big event such as the death of Hasaan, there had to be a build up until the next week with just a little twist.. rene's death was expected, but it was still hard to watch if you are a real fan of 24.....
good job to the writers!
Chloe as head of CTU – puleeze – totally not credible. She never makes a move without Jack's prompting or approval. Jack trying to be head of CTU – that would be interesting as he would not be able to not be in the field.
I thought Jack would end up with a woman – thought it would be Renee. Obviously having a family makes him vulnerable. But the show is ending., so why not. Funny that a guy like him would have an apartment with windows facing other buildings with windows – especially the bedbroom. He strikes me as a back to the door kind of guy.
Love this show- wondering if there will be a spin-off of some sort when 24 finally ends?
If you've been watching 24 all along, then you knew Renee would die. Jack can't be happy, or it wouldn't be 24. When has he ever been happy? I knew Renee was going to die about 3-4 weeks ago – whenever it was that he asked her to go to CA with him – I told someone "Renee is going to die – Jack can't be happy." I was sad to see her go – but it's the way Jack's life has gone for the last – however many years that the show has been on. Poor Jack – it sucks to be him! But, thats what makes the show rock!!
Chl-OE! Chl-OE! Chl-OE! I never liked Hastings as head of CTU; didn't quite seem to have the authority of a Bill Buchanan, say (though maybe it's just 'cause I kept hearing him saying, "...fried shrimp, shrimp creole, boiled shrimp, shrimp salad..."
Jack is about to go bullistic. When he is hurt is when he is at his best. We need people like Jack's persona working for our goverment in real life. There are no rules in love and war, give them hell JACK.
Loved last night's show. Sorry to see Renee die for Jack's sake. Love it that Chloe is head of CTU, think Hastings will help her out once in a while. Jack will have free reign now.
Surely to GOD, some network will pick up this show. It is sooo good.
Awaiting next week.............
Amazing! 24 is just too awesome for words.
Sad to see Renee go, but I think her death will be the momentum for the last 6 episodes.
Logan's awesome and the rest of the season will be fantastic w/ the this conspiracy with the Russians. Chloe's in charge. Woot!
great show,
should be fun to see that Logan is up to no good again.
so happy Hastins is out .
Jack will not die, even if the program will end.
I knew the snipper was going to get Renee but, I did not see the removal of Hastings coming. However glad to see Chloe in charge. Now this whole bit with Logan? I think he wants to get in the game again for 2 reasons: 1) he still wants to get back at Jack some how, some way, which Jack is going to have to finally take hime out. 2) Logan wants to overthrow the governmebt. I don't trust him and he has got something really brewing with the Russians. More than meets the eye
This episode had just about everything you could want. I've been with this show since the very beginning of season 1. This was one of the best episodes I've seen. Pure intensity. You could feel the tension coming through the screen when President Taylor met with President Logan. She really wanted to reach across the table and punch him in the face. Loved seeing our girl Chloe get props. But don't think we've seen the last of Hastings. He's gonna team up with Jack somewhere in the last 6 hours. Bet on it!!! Greatest TV Show EVER!
I was very disappointed that Renee was killed off & felt it was lazy writing as well as highly predictable. I actually booed at the TV when the end credits came up. Good episode overall but with an ending that left me feeling cheated.
Scott, that was hilarious! Sorry, just had to say it 🙂
Loved this weeks episode, I can't wait until next week Jack is not taking an prisoners.
Why.
Why did they have to kill Renee?! Why can't they just let Jack have something good in his life? UGH.
Jack Bauer is Charlie Brown.
What an incredible episode! The writers have cleaned up this season nicely and are on a roll for sure. Found myself speechless and glued to the screen in anticipation for where things would take me....and with six short hours left, I just may refrain from watching the next week's preview in advance. I don't know that I want any further hints at what's to come...
Terry, Aubrey, Nina, and now Renee!! That's to the heart. My girl moved herself right into my faves list only to have been sniped at the worst possible time. RIP Renee! Here's hoping her death will at least give momentum to the newest path of detruction sure to follow Jack out the door...
Chloe gets her due and couldn't be happier with that transition.
Pres Logan back is good and bad at the same time which is what's intended no doubt. Loved the conversation with Pres Taylor, especially her responses in keeping him in check.
Time to start connecting dots, kicking ass, and taking names....Jack, make it count one more time!
I can't believe that they killed off Renee. Jack had successfully trained her and had brought her over to the darkside. Jack had taken her from being a relatively politically correct FBI agent to a full blown the-end-justify-the-means type of character. If you thought that Jack was a bit over the top before, I'm sure that we haven't seen anything that will approach Jack's wrath now.
I haven't read all of the comments so somebody might have already mentioned this but the stage is set for Jack Bauer to assume command of CTU at the end of the series, just in time for the movie. Chloe will be his right-hand (wo)man.
Loved the episode – agree with most all posts – just one thought. Did anyone else think Chloe's appointment at CTU director was a bit contrived? It was just the brief exchange between Tim Woods and President Taylor about Wood's suggestion – that Woods just "handle it" – I don't know – I've never thought Tim Woods anything but a first-class patriot (he did play SSG Bill Guarnere in Band of Brothers, after all) – but something about it didn't ring true. I did a fist-pump like everybody else, but something about it seems fishy. Hope not.
Renee was supposed to be Jack's happy ending!! I can't believe she's gone! I thought the episode was amazing when it came to the acting and suspense, but I really feel like they could have kept Renee around. The finale will not be the same, knowing that Jack doesn't have her to spend the rest of his life with.
Where is Tonly Almeda?
The last two episodes have had me on an emotional rollercoaster! I was sad to lose President Hasaan and Renee, but this puts Jack back into the thick of it all as rogue as ever. I am curious to see the direction this will take with Mrs. Hasaan taking over. I can't wait to see the final hours and will be first in line at midnight when the movie comes out. Also way to go Chloe! In spite of her horrible people skills, I know she'll rock and roll leading CTU through the final hours. As much as I was not an orignal fan of "Bubba" Hastings, I was sad to see him go out by taking the fall for the screw ups. But that's the cost to be the boss. BTW, I really liked this week's blog count down format!
24HDfan, you may be right. I might feel differently come Monday tonight. I can't even re-watch last night's episode yet!
By the way, the picture of Jack at the top of this page is killing me! He is so lost. I sort of agree that Jack is a tragic figure, but having Renee live wouldn't have diminished any of the other tragedies he's suffered. The writers should have cut him a break just this once! 🙂
I was also sad to see Renee go. Thought she would make it. Rest of the show was great.
I cannot wait for 24 serie DVD if i see 24 in tv i know i will get a heart attack, but for me it's very nice that finally jack has support in CTU with chloe over there they will be an excellent team in CTU. THANKS FOR THE SUMMARY
To me, this week's episode (and last week's too) represented the best that 24 can be. This episode yesterday had the panic, excitement and tragedy that was displayed in season 5 (the best of the series). I was so heartbroken for Jack.
And I disagree with some of the comments above that said that Renee's death was unnecessary. Of course it was necessary! Jack is a tragic figure, and death follows him. It's just the nature of his existence. I'm surprised Chloe has made is this long, but then again she probably wouldn't have if she were a field agent.
I love that Chloe is in charge, she has great intuition. But keep in mind – as the 24 formula goes, those in charge of CTU never leave that place in a good way:
George Mason: Dead. Ryan Chapelle: Dead. Tony Alameda: imprisoned, dead, imprisoned again. Michelle Desler: Dead. Jack Bauer: Dead inside. Bill Buchanan: Dead. Erin Driscol: daughter killed herself. Karen Hayes: ousted. Brian Hastings: ousted. Have I missed anyone important?
Lol, I was telling my roommate how Renee was probably my least favorite character (I just started watching this season) and now, "BOOM," she's a goner! Haha!
Dang it! Renee's gone?!! I was in flight...WHERE can I see Monday's episode w/o waiting for Netflix?
I feel like Jack's gonna break down in the end this time. It looked like he had suppressed a lot of his emotions. He WILL take his revenge.
This can't be the last season!!! The show is too good.
I don't think you're the only one who thinks that. I think its clear Dana is more than just a freelancer out for money. She's definitely more invested than a mercenary.
Anyhow, the episode was fantastic. Keifer's acting was epic. I'm personally glad Renee is dead. I liked her character, but couldn't handle her acting any longer.
I've wondered about the body of the parole officer rotting in the wall – and how will it matter? Then it struck me. She can be given immunity for her part in the conspiracy, but when that body is found and attributed to her, she can still be charged with murder (of a police officer).
Kaye.
You know you don't mean that.
Sure, you may feign to "schedule" something for next Monday. You may even try to TiVo it, but don't kid yourself, you'll be there,.. at the tube, ... next Monday with the rest of us... feening, eyes locked on.
Although a good night is one with a 24 DVR session. (sorry Ford Focus/Escape etc...)
Yayyy for Chloe, she is so cool in a jerky way. And I love that pouty look she always has on her face, right after she says something outrageous. Next to Jack, she's the best character on the show. I still remember a couple of seasons ago when she went out to the field and she had to shoot some bad guys with an automatic weapon....she looked like she really enjoyed it. It was great!
Prediction: Jack goes nuts and kills everyone involved with help from CTU. At the end of the season they arrest him and put him in prison and keep it quiet to not admit CTU helped Jack kill all the Russians. In the movie, CTU has a fever, and the only perscription is, More Bauer.
To those of you tired of the people getting killed off:
These people deal in terrorism. In real life terrorism, people die. Simple fact. For the producers of this show to never allow anyone good to die is to perpetuate an incredibly bad lie about the nature of fighting terrorism. It is a deadly business. To protect *any* character from being killed just because they are popular does a disservice to the entire storyline, and the entire series.
I seem to be in the minority. I've watched every season of 24 and find this is by far the worse, and ultimately, for me, the show has been in a steady decline. It's definitely far from being the best show on TV as some here claim. I'm quite happy that this is the final season...
Logan is behind everything. He caused the problems so he could be praised for solving them. Just watch!
Renee dead . . Jack ticked . . . you know what this means? Time to torture Starbuck!
Great show!!! Love the action and the twists. Sorry to see Renee go but you knew it would happen. Kinda wonder if Chloe will get her man Jack...we all know she is so in love with him. Logan was not nice knowing you the first time but watching you get your just rewards...priceless! Kayla needs to get a grip and give her mother some kudos for taking on the responsibility. Kinda hard to see a female in the...but it is 2010! Can't wait for the movie but don't want my Monday's to end with Jack. Love the man!
I think Mrs. Hassan will turn out to have orchestrated the whole thing!
24HDfan, from the minute Jack got out of bed, I was saying, "No, no, no, no....." I can't believe she's dead. I think I'll need a break – more than a week – from "24" before I can start watching again.
I have seen every minute of every episode since day 1 and up to the first 55 minutes of this episode which were some of the best I had seen so far. I was really engaged...that is until my Dish Network box froze up again (3rd time in 4 nights), reset and quit recording the last 5 minutes. It came back on in time for me to see Jack bloody in the hospital hallway. Had to break my cardinal rule of not watching the next weeks "trailer" to find out that Rene had bought the farm. For anyone ever considering Dish Network, STAY AWAY or you may miss some of the best moments on TV
I dont normally care for WWIFs. But you all have to admi.. Renee was one fine looking woman. Sorry Jack, you shoud have protected her from her peril. What a lost of intensity and eye candy.. The best looking force on this season's show.
Okay, I like to think I am a man's man... was raised to love my country more than anything, joining the military before living my adult life comes first. So naturally I was hooked to 24, I have every season, and know everyone by name.......I also will say television and movies never has made me cry due to knowing they are actors.........Last night i found myself speechless, and not wanting to look at my company, because I was hiding tears............for the second week in a row. This season was very slow, but the most dramatic yet, the writers must of done something right, even though I am still wishing she was alive
Oh, and Chloe is going to turn out to be the boss from h_ell.
Iam glad! choele is the directer of c.t.u
I am happy and thankfull that so many of you love and follow the show
with great interest for so many years. I believe this season is outstanding and the writers are doing a good job. Looking forward for many seasons to come and obviously the movie.
Uh...no. Jack isn't going to die. There is a movie and money to be made!!
Death of our favorites on "24" is as certain as the death of Ensign Jones who beams to the planet with Kirk, Spock and McCoy in a landing party.
We know that those we grow the closest to in 24 shall suffer some traumatic extermination. None the less, The taking of Renee hit me especially hard as I was looking forward to her joining the crew on the big screen. That is not to say that she won't be in a flashback or time flip, but there was the sound of a loud "Noooooo....." in our house.
Fan-freekin-tastic episode. I thought that there would be a let down after last weeks show, but....WOW. Two silent clocks in a row. If anyone told me at the beginning of the season that I would be more excited about the final weeks of 24 than I am about Lost I wouldn't believe them. This show has stepped its game up and I don't know why Fox would cancel it.
This is the best show on TV, bring it back next season. We have so much garbage on TV, (REALITY SHOWS), and 24 is such a great show.
Maybe they should try another time for the show. I can't believe this is the last season. Maybe the network will wise up and bring it back. In the beginning of this season I heard people saying Oh its too slow, but I knew it was just building and it did. Great job by the writers.
This was the sort of shocking twist that makes 24 such a great show!
When I saw the sniper, I thought "Oh, snap (okay, it wasn't REALLY 'snap" but still began with the letter 'S')!" I'm kinda sorry that Renee's gone, though. When I heard the show was cancelled, I had hoped that Jack would ride off into the sunset with her.
I also thought "Oh, snap!" when Charles Logan-the most evil man to sit in the White House since DC Comics put Lex Luthor in there. It'll be interesting to see what kind of highjinks he pulls, especially 'cause i thought he was dead when his ex-wife shot him.
I'd hoped for another season or two of 24, but alas! Who else thinks the last episode will leave loose ends to be tied up in the movie?
Anyone "up" for some sort of spin-off...?
This was the best episode of the season thus far, for me. Jack went through a huge rollercoaster in this one hour. I was thrilled to see him finally be with Renee, but we all knew it would be bittersweet for him. Kiefer's timing and ability to project such intense emotion is quilte amazing! Keep bringing the awesome action. I'm on the edge until the end!!!
never assasinate a woman until your enemy gets a chance to "hit it" first. #manlaw
i dont know why i'm bothering with this, but anyway... female leaders of Islamic countries DO happen:
Indonesia, the most populous Muslim-majority country, elected Megawati Sukarnoputri as president
Pakistan, the second most populous Muslim-majority country, twice elected Benazir Bhutto as prime minister
Bangladesh, the third most populous Muslim-majority country, elected Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina as prime ministers
Turkey, the fifth most populous Muslim-majority country, elected Tansu Çiller as prime minister
LOVED IT!! I love that Chloe is in charge, and a great set up having her in charge going into the making of a Movie. I also love Chloe's husband, I hope he's in the movie. I agree, sad to see Renee go, but makes more sense for the plot and yes, Jack can't have love and the CTU. I liked the first episode, Jack with his Granddaughter I think humanized him to us, and that's what's different about him this season, he's human, and had 3 very human emotions already, happiness with the granddaughter, losing president Hassan, and then Renee.
Still think we need "Tick Tock Jack" shirts!
Ab – Isn't Audrey in a coma somewhere? Renee had to go. Too much of a distraction for Jack. This is not Mr. & Mrs. Smith on small screen.
This is television at it's very best. Could not even sit down to watch 24. There is always a deep void when the season comes to an end, but this time I think I will need therapy. Best damn episode ever. Poor Jack is so unlucky in love. Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!
Jack's moment after Renee's death really got to me but I understand plot devices and the need to provide the final push for the season fueled by Jack's revenge. I couldn't really imagine him settling down with Renee, living near Kim and the granddaughter, raising avocados. Now, he's got nothing to lose and a major score to settle. It's going to get really nasty in these last few hours. Bring it on!
I watched Days 1 – 7 with a feel that the next week's episode could not get here fast enough. This season it took over 12 hours for me to get that feeling back, but based on the last four or five hours I am officially counting the hours (with a silent clock at that) until next Monday at 9pm. In my opinion, this is the best season since Day 4.
Loved the scene with Mrs. Hassan and her daughter, where she told her to quit sniveling and buck up.
Loved last night. Renee had to go as Jack was about to wallow in self pity, maybe try to leave town with a crisis going down. Now he can concentrate on the job at hand and get back to why I started watching 24 in the first place. Now I'm confident that the show will end properly.
Love the show, sorry that tihis will be the last season. Jack has more work to do for the country. I wait for each episode. Hastings was the weakest head of CTU ever. The network should reconsider this being the last season. Fans have not lost interest, there is so much action. The idea of a movies is good, but that is only one time and cannot replace a weekly dose. I am 69 years old and this is by far my favorite show of the week.
Am loving me some '24'. I hope when they make a movie, it be called '72 hours'. That would give us 3 movies (24 hours each).
Anyhow, I dont know what to expect in the next 6 hours. That what so exciting about 24 – it almost always unpredictable.
Goooooooooooooooo Chloe!!!! lol,
Now this is the 24 i love. Jack can't be in love he has no emotions! So she had to go.
Wow - what a terrific hour - the writer and actors deserve all the praise that can be dished out. Nail biting excitement - natural and emotional display of feelings. Bravo - hopefully this will continue for some years.
I think Jack is gonna go 'Tony Alameda' for the next 6 hours.
They (Jack/Tony) now have the same motivation. Pay Back !
I love this show ! ! ! !
All I can say 24 Nation is stand by for HEAVY ROLLS once Jack gets back on the horse from Renee. There will be a body count after this, hopefully Logan will be in that count.
I felt sorry for Jack, like everyone. We were finally going to see Jack happy. How many of his wives or girlfriends have to die??? He will reach the breaking point after this last six hours.
Why is everyone convinced Jack won't die simply because of the movie? Have the released the plot of the movie to tell us that it follows in time this season? It could be a prequel to the series or take place in any number of breaks in time within the series. I'm not saying I think Jack will die, but I don't think it's impossible.
I predict this season will end just as the show started....with Jack reinstated as Director at CTU
Just want to echo what someone said previously, and that there are 7 hours left, not 6. Last night was episode 17out of 24.
Last night's episode was good except for Renee getting killed, which, as far as I'm concerned, has made me lose interest in the show. And as much as I like Chloe, I think it was a mistake to get rid of Hastings. 24 is so predictable with its unpredictability...good thing it's the last season because they are really stretching for shockers- that was obvious when they killed off Renee. Jack having a happy ending would have been unexpected- and unpredictable. But of course he'll wind up miserable- typical 24. The show just lost a huge fan after last night.
This week does not look good for the Russians! Begining with the accidental plane crash (fact), to the assassination of Rene (fiction).
Although I saw it coming, a woman as president of an Islamic country does not happen.
I have been a bauerite from hour 1, day 1. I love this show! I love it's premise! I love how they can keep you hanging on the edge for the next hour. I love how I spend a week trying to guess what's going to happen next. BTW– I totally think Logan has something to do with the current conspiracy.
Now to open a can of worms. I've only had one wish over the past seven seasons. Give Jack a rest. The producers could've easily taken 24 to another agency and main character. 24 hours of a detective chasing a serial killer, or a sheriff chasing a fugitive, or a SEAL unit behind enemy lines.
Another can of worms. I'm not looking forward to a 24 movie. They obviously won't have a movie that is 24 hours long. I really feel they are going to loose some of the drama and grip in a movie, that we have in the tv show.
There were SO many highs and lows in the episode....the best having Chloe take over CTU, along with Hassan's wife taking over as well. The worst was killing off Renee...I know no one is safe on this show, but couldn't writers have her ride off into the LA sunset with Jack when he returns to his daughter...etc.!?? Better to kill off Dana, but that would be too easy...plus it looks like she is the key to the whole story. Anywho, having the smarmy President Logan back will be very interesting...teetering on the edge of illegal manuverings...he's got to be involved somehow...maybe he's Dana's long lost Dad?
Venting like that felt good. Of course, I'll watch ALL of the remaining episodes, and eagerly await the movie.
I'm getting sick of 24 killing off beloved characters, like Renee. Good God! Come on, give us a break. Last season Renee was Jack's equal. [I kept telling my wife that Renee was going to get her own show, 24's first spin-off. This season she's been reduced to a mentally unstable murderer who slept with two men in the same day. She did not have to go out like that.
I'm not too thrilled about Hastings being fired, either.
with this the last season, a happy ending for Jack and Rene together would have been a satisfying conclusion to years of crushing stress and loss. Killing her off -almost- makes me lose interest in the remaining episodes.
OMG What a great show last night, so glad to see my girl "Chloe" get that promotion, YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This show is getting too close to the end, I hate to see it go, my Monday's won't be the same!
Bring on the movie!!!!
To be the love intrest of Jack Bauer is akin to being the red shirted "Crewman #5" on the orginal Star Trek!! Watch out girls, this guy has a serious red flag!!!!
Dear Jack Bauer, Please kill Dana Walsh within the next 6 hours and spare us the possibilty that she might show up in a 24 movie. If not, please at least slap that stupid smirk off of her face.
Another FANTASTIC show, except when Renne was shot... 🙁
Really wanted Renee to make it, – hated that part when the doctor said, she didn’t.
People who did that for sure will pay for it... Jack will make them pay for what they did to Renee.
It Jack ... he's a lone wolf, ever since Season one he's never had a happy ending, and everyone he come in contact too either either gets severily injured or dies... except Chloe. That's just how it is.
I too love this week's episode. I fear for the evil doers that took Rene from Jack. After so many years, he just found companionship again and in an instant she is gone.
Cannot wait until next week.
I hope those folks at the Emmys nominate Keifer for best actor. The emotions he displayed in this episode without saying a word actually said volumes! You could see Jack was really hurting. If this is to be the end of the series (gulp), it certainly is going out with a bang (pardon the pun). And it should be recognized by the Emmys.
Silent clocks two weeks in a row is quite enough. If they do this for the next six hours, they'll run out of folks. We all know that Jack and Chloe are there for the duration.
Of all the silent clocks we had, I miss Bill Buchanan the most.
we all know the motto "get with Jack you r gonna get whacked!!!!" sadly it was proven here too. i mean we had teri, nina (deserved it), Audrey (pretty much got it), Renee....why do you think Chloe is still around??? Plus we need the revenge component when Jack goes to Europe/Russia either to kill those responsible...or is captured and taken for the murder of those responsible!!! i mean the Russians r not big Jack Bauer fans!!!
Dear Terrorists/Mobsters, You have shot and killed the woman that Jack was going to spend the rest of his life with....you have less than 6 hours to live. Have a nice day.
The last three hours of 24 have been simply magnificent. The story line has been focused, realistic, and emotionally compelling. I think last night was perhaps Kiefer's best acting in the past 8 seasons. I just hope that Logan does not end up being the bad guy, and that the Russians remain the evil force in the season. By the way, am I the only one that thinks that Dana Walsh is a Russian spy?
Glad Renee is gone. Could not take another minute of her blank stares. Question...why did Jack get so quickly dressed...or does Jack Bauer not undress to make love?
Last night REALLY hurt!!! First jack loses Pres. Hassan (last week) and now he loses Renee.... you could feel the pain Jack felt. Now he's really ticked..........
Loved the episode. Not sure about the Logan thing but I believe he will use this opportunity to try and get back at Jack for exposing him. He also could be involved with the Russian plot. Glad to see Chloe in the job she deserves. I think the next 6 hours will be great!
well since i heard 24 was ending i cant bring myself to watch it, but still find myself turning it on and not watching it, what i did watch last night was long over due, chloe finally taking over CTU...bout time
and the angry lesbian song part one on youtube was just as overdue....check it out...
I knew all along that Chloe will run CTU. She has the most experience out of all of the personnel. On top of that, she follows her instincts. Good move Chloe calling on the toxocology report. But boy o' boy. Someone has hell to pay. If you had anything to do with Renee's death, I have some simple advice for you: RUN!!!! Jack just can't seem to keep a woman. First they kill his wife. Then Sec. Keller wants him to stay away from Audrey. Now this!!! SMH.
As for as Logan goes, if I were the President, I wouldn't trust him as far as i can throw him. This is the same treasonous S.O.B. that had David Palmer killed and authorized the terrorists to try and kill the Zuverov's(Russian 1st Fam). I don't see how his relationship with Moscow is in good standing. Plus, his "executive assistant" looks a bit shady. The last few episodes have given me a major adrenaline rush. I can't wait for the movie.
"I don't want revenge, I want justice!" – Jack Bauer
GREAT SHOW once again-I was surprised to see Renee die-though her and Jack might ride into the sunset together when all was said and done. As for Logan don't trust him-never did. Hope he gets what
he deserves!!!
there are 7 hours left
- Rob– Jack will not die, they are going to return with another season in the future, IM SURE! they will probable have us believe he is dead in the end. I have to say these last episiodes have made me anxious for the next one... GREAT JOB!
I thought the last couple of episodes have been great. My question is this....what is the connection of Jack's granddaughter to all of this? They showed her in the first episode of this current season and she was mentioned again last night – and you know people are just not mentioned in 24 for the sake of wasting lines....it will be interesting to see how this all pans out. I wished Renee had lived...besides Chloe, she's the only other person that Jack trusted.
WOW WOW it was great. I hate to see it end
As they started down the Jack-n-Renee path, I knew she was a goner, even early in the season with all the promises and intense looks.
Didn't Jack's wife Teri die from GS wounds to the abdomen too? I guess I chalked up the look on his face as "not again."
I really hope Audrey doesn't make a miraculous recovery from her catatonic state and shows up at the end of the season, or in the movie. Time to just move on.
I understood, but could not support the Hastings replacement. I don't want to see Chloe be the next "fall guy." And honestly, she doesn't have any leadership skills. Sure, they'll emerge miraculously over the last 6 hours. But that will be the result of creative writing and inconsistent with the character we've known over the last 8 seasons.
I've got nothing against her, so don't get your drones in a wad, but I'm just saying that 99% of the time when she's right, it's because she's doing what Jack told her to do.
I agree it was sad to see Renee go but I understand why she had too to get Jack involved again, can't the man have a good day for once? And eventually someone is going to smell the dead body in the conference room before too long don't you think? LOVE THIS SEASON!!!!
With the assination of Renee, is Chloe on the hit list soon?
thank you for finally taking a break from writing about Lost and giving a nod to TV's best series – 24
Great night – The look on Jack's face was the most emotional scene I think in 24 history, with the exception of him coming back from China. Awesome show, like that Chloe is in charge, so just give her the gun and let her "talk" with Dana!, that slimeball Logan is gonna cause lots of trouble for Jack and the President, he is a slimeball and a slug, I would not be surprised if he was not involved with the Russians plot too! He is just too much of a weasel to want to "help" his country. Can't wait til next week. Love the show and its gonna be a sad end of the day. And for Robs question, NO Jack is not gonna die at the end of the show, but I do look for some twist that we keep us guessing for a long time, you know, like him just walking off into the sunset??
6) Jack gets to grab a cup of coffee (still hasn't eaten anything in days)
7) Jack gets a little romance (it's about time)
8) Has he taken a potty break yet(??)
Chloe in charge is the best thing they could have done. Her story line is a movie by itself. There aren't enough characters like her on TV.
Killer episode, no pun intended...Jack is about to go rogue – even by his standards. If you saw the movie Man on Fire with Denzel Washington, this reminds me of the scene where Christopher Walken is talking to the Mexican detective (after Denzel gets shot and Dakota Fanning is kidnapped) where he says (as only CW can):
"Death is his art; and he's about to paint his masterpiece"
Russian Mobsters look out!
Good riddance to Rene. She wasn't for him...and I think he knows that. She was a nut case for sure.
However...Jack is not cursed..i see the ending as a beginning for him...and for the movie...he will clear his head and fine the right person...someone NOT involved in all the madness who will be able to bring out the best in him...:0
Bravo Chloe..but I don't think we have seen the last of Hastings..I predict he will have the chance to redeem himself....I also see Logan as the snake in the grass that he always has been..and predict he will get his deserved ending....
agreed, NBC should pick it up, revamp it. Since Jack no longer wants to be with CTU, they should keep the new cast, Chloe in charge (tho i maintain she'll have to change to keep that position). Keep Freddie Prinze jr around and the guy that plays Arlo (forgive me i dont know his name). They could open the doors and do so much that it's like a new show but with a familiar theme.
This was without a doubt one of the most gripping and pivotal episodes in 24 history! Chloe suddenly realizes that she has what it takes to be in charge deep down. I really didn't know Renee was going to die until right up to the end. That says a lot because I can usually pick out some of the plot twists. They set up the ultimate situation to utterly break Jack. The loss he'd suffered and the feeling of helplessness last week could be shrugged off with a hope for happy times. Now that's gone so watch for Jack to come back in force. No more dreamy thoughts of lazy Sundays with his firmly. Nope, he is a machine. A weapon that is loaded and finding targets now.
And if anyone ever doubted Kiefer Sutherland's acting I hope they hang their collective head in shame after last night.
I really hope the decision makers at NBC are watching these past few episodes and re-thinks their decision to pick up the show...this would be the past show (easily) on the network...
Memo to Jack........apartments have these things called shades. They keep out peeping Toms........and SNIPERS !
Wow, I don't recall seeing silent clocks back to back before. I was sad to see Renee die. Jack is cursed, he cannot have love in his live...
To the person who asked if Jack's going to die by the end... of course not. They couldn't very well make a 24 movie if the main character is dead.
As for last night's show.. I knew if Jack and Renee actually made it to the bed, that Russian was going to shoot Renee. There was no doubt in my mind that if Jack got a happy moment, it was going to be ruined. But his rage over this will fuel the rest of the season and should make for some good drama. Kudos to Keifer; he made me cry right along with him.
Renee had to die.
Jack is cursed just like Audrey's father said.
Great episode!
I really wanted Renee to make it, – hated that part when the doc said- she didn’t- unable to see Jack like that- this sounds silly- but I cried when saw Jack's crying :(((
I am a definite "24" fan. I loved last night's episode. I just think that Jack had finally found happiness with Renee. Why did they have to steal his dreams????? I also think that Chloe was the right person for the job, she has gotten CTU out of more binds than most leaders of CTU. Sure she may not be the brightest orange in the bunch, but she has technical smarts and knows CTU like the back of her hand, she was the one who kept CTU going when they didn't even have a building. I never liked Hastings anyway, he was too dry. Can't wait to see what Logan has in store for next week. Until then, Previously on "24"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@Rob–Jack's not going to die until the 24 movie, but yes I agree with you that they are building up to his eventual death. I think it's a one and done movie to rap up all loose ends and part of that is that Jack will go out in a blaze of glory.
Sad to see Renee go, but it had to happen. Jack's like Michael Corelone. He tries to get out but they keep pulling him back in. Loved the episode. Sad to see that Jack won't get the happily ever after but that's his job. He now has a murdered-love sandwich. Remember, Day 1 ended with the murder of his wife and now Day 8 begins its end with the murder of the last real contender to be the love of his life. Did Audrey die too or did she just disappear? I can't remember. Anyway, the show is ending strong. Good to see.
Jack being Jack probably would not have left the hospital if she didnt die. Because it was so iffy as to if she would make it. They had her shot and concluded that story line quickly. It opens him up to complete revenge, and now that Chloe is in charge, he will have even more freedom than he already did.
First it was just some guy that showed up at his door, he was going to do CTU a favor just this one last time. Now he is really invested.. he has to avenge her murder.
I thought the show (understandably) started a little slow, and had no problem with it consider how the last show ended. This show clearly picked up as it went along. Sorry to see Renee die, but it's just like in horror movies – you do it, you die! Anyway, looking forward to seeing how Logan plays out in all this, and what twists and turns they'll come up with the rest of the way.
I love chloe at head of CTU, however the replacement was clearly unnecessary. I'll let that slide.
I dont understand why you are giving props to last weeks readers for "calling" Mrs. Hassan to be asked to step in, it was clear (at least to me) from the previews.
I don't think they had to kill Renee, they could have had Chloe and/or president Taylor ask him for one last favor, I don't see him saying no for each of them.
Does anyone else think Jack's going to die by the end?
anon, I think that probably more people don't like Renee than do. I think that the writers could have made the sniper fail in his attempt to shoot Renee, and the final result would have been the same – Jack would have been motivated to stay on the job. The unhappy Jack vs. no Jack isn't the only option.
Jack is going to open a new can of whoop-a$$ in the next few episodes. Cant wait!!
I am probably committing "24 blasphemy" but Renee had to go. I dont believe that it's anything anyone wants to hear, but without it you would have had 6 more hours of 24 without Jack. Because Jack's job was done and he was ready to leave. But now he has motivation to stay! Would you rather have 6 hours with an unhappy Jack, or no Jack at all??
And I LOVE Chloe in this position. I hope they leave that open for her in the movie to still be in command. She makes great tactical decisions using her instincts, but she would never be allowed to keep that job. She has 0 people skills. She needs to learn how to suck up more or she won't be running CTU long!
One more thing..... 🙂 I love the action and suspense of "24." But what makes me invested in the show so much is my feeling for Jack. I rejoice in his all-too-infrequent moments of happiness – wasn't it great to see Jack actually smiling while he was in bed with Renee? – and I share Jack's sorrows and frustrations. Now that Renee is dead, I feel like one aspect – a major aspect – of connection with/for Jack is now gone. I don't know that I care if he kills Dana, if he finds the Russians, etc.
I really don't think that I can bear to watch any more episodes now that Renee is dead. Your numbers 2 and 1 are absolutely on point. The emotional impact that was reflected in Jack's face was crushing. BUT...Renee's death was unnecessary. Jack has enough things that could fuel his presumed rampage over the remaining episodes. He didn't need a personal vendetta (or "justice," as he says in the previews) to get him going. Jack didn't deserve this, and neither did Renee/Jack fans. I'm hoping that somehow Renee isn't dead.
